  • After considering the longevity of the stock 650 with me behind the bars, I had a gut feeling it wasn't long for life so I got with Indy Specialty and got this new bad to the bone 862cc stroker on the way for the VR1 build.
This engine is a beast with a lot of Indy Specialty magic, full billet crank, longer rods for better rod angle and reduced side loading of the piston, ARP 2000 hardware, CNC ported cylinder, billet head with easily changeable domes, the list goes on and on.
Follow along as I swap these long blocks out and try to get this swap done in time to chase some snow again!

It's quite the weapon, I should have the part 2 build segment up in the next couple days!

Though I'm a BRP guy I love this! Flat land content, mods, feedback directly on the trail, shop work, keep it coming. Specifically to this video and eventually it's first ride, this big bore content has me on the edge of my seat. I've always been intrigued by all the Big Bore kits on the market for all brands in the past..RKT, D&D, SHR, Crankshop, BMP, Hooper, PSI, a bunch more and now this new 862 ad I saw in SnowTech recently and I get to see it live in these videos, even as the snow has pretty much completely dissapeared. Though you go through the engine mods, what is the base engine to this bigbore? What engines can get swapped out with this? And you'll run 650 injectors and software to fuel this?

Those were the days! The golden age of ice racing really, it's starting to come back around and I love to see it! Thank you for the good words, I'm glad you're enjoying the content. The base for this setup is the same case as any 650/850/900 Polaris Matryx, they're all interchangeable. The stock 650 fuel system, while running a lower base/peak pressure than the 850's, is still sufficient for close to the 250 crank HP mark (in an N/A application)!!

Hope it didnt cost too much. Few facts about these types of builds, no porting in the cylinder only the exhaust outlet (cncported) which can lose performance. longer rods dont gain power, needs to be ported to adapt to longer rods and ratios. Also adding too much case volume. But can make it run smoother. But with downsides. The poorly designed 800 dual ring pistons lose performance compared to the stock 850 pistons. For 2 mm of stroke would of been easier to install a ported 850 cyl, head, highflow Y pipe and tune and have alot more power, and less cost. These engines need to balanced out from a proper engine builder. Porting, heads, exhaust, tuning, etc...

What are your plans with the old 650 engine.

It may go back to Indy for a future project, it may get wrapped up and hang out in storage for a while, haven't fully decided yet honestly.

Why you do 650 swap to 862? Did your 650 blow?

It didn't let go, it was still running great, I was just nervous about the smaller displacement being worked too hard long term in the faster regions we've had to ride on this low snow year. It's original purpose was a central VT/tight woods sled, but we never really got snow to utilize it in that terrain.

All ready had scuff marks around 1,000 miles

The engine had around 2600 miles on it, not sure if it had previously had a top end or not, the cylinder looked a little newer than the case but no real way to tell, could just simply be a better casting than the case.
