This was very educational for me. I had no idea these were motorized or software-driven. I thought gimbals were just gravity-controlled with really low-friction ball bearings to keep the object level. This has opened a whole new world for me.
The reason why the bottom is not flat is to prevent people from trying to use it without a large base. The force moving the phone would just knock if over. Great video. Also note the software for Android is no longer in the play store and has to be side loaded

I literally ordered the Osmo 3 last week and Amazon cancelled my order YESTERDAY due to an error. it's my lucky day I guess cause I'm gonna be ordering this one right now.

i bought the OSMO 3. two days later I got a notification that the OM4 was released. I wasted no time returning the OSMO 3 and pre-ordered the OM4.
I just ordered the Osmo Mobile 3 for $99 with a 32 gb sd card and a carry case. Figured this model isn’t worth a 50% price premium.

If you can't install the Mimo on Android, as it is no longer available in the Google Play store: open the DJI Mimo download page (link below) on a computer or other device, and then scan the QR code there with the Android phone that you wish to install it on. I have been a photo hobbyist for about 40 years. I just had my 3rd stroke and am disabled and shake pretty bad. I use my 12 pro max now but my photos and videos suffered due to my physical limitations. The OM-4 was the clear choice for me based on 2 months of research. I agree 100% with your conclusions about the device. Great for the money and makes it easier to get GREAT shots. Even I can do it :)
I just found one of these refurbished by the company (I've actually had some really good experiences with this - I'm a true bargain-hunter). I know this video has been out for a while, but I just wanted to express my appreciation for how nicely done and helpful this tutorial is. Great video thank you. I’ve upgraded from the zhiyun smooth 4 to this gimbal based on it having good reviews and because of this video. I’ve upgraded because I have several DJI products: action cam, drone, osmo pocket and now this gimbal. How is the app working with your Samsung ultra? Heard it doesn't work great with Android...I have a s20 and thinking about getting one

For the record u can use the adhesive magnet on a phone with a case. Idk y u dont think so but I just thought I'd let u know.
This is fine if you don’t use wireless charging. Otherwise it doesn’t work.
Great video as usual Russ, to the point and sweet. OM4 sounds very tempting especially with the Dynamic Zoom feature and CloneMe Effect and the clamp might be enough features for me to buy me an OM4 :-)

Thanks so much for the help, I went to this from the Hohem ISteady Mobile + as my IPhone 12 521GB ProMax was too heavy. Helps so much & people on my TikTok lives always comment on how I'm such a smooth walker lol. Also, never even saw the USB charging port, I guess because it blends right in, so THANKS for that too!

The reason you need the tripod is because it would become top heavy without it, it would fall over as soon as the phone moved, not sure I’d consider that a negative. Great review, very thorough!
Its definitely a positive. I have both the Omso 2 and OM 4, I would always hate that I couldnt stand my Omso 2 up on its base.
Great tutorial, Thanks! I had this product for 2 days and you explained a lot. The dynamic zoom does not give the vertigo effect on android. I hope DJI corrects this. It was one of the reasons I brought this gimbal.

I you are going to use it beyond anything but walking with slow subjects, return it. Save the money and return it. I bought it and it had some glaring flaws that no youtube reviewer has seemed to pick up on because it seems to me that they only test them a little in their own backyard and then go through company talking points.
The biggest issue is vertical tilt. It only tilts up and down by 30 degrees which is terrible. The most basic gimbal shot is going from low to high or high to low. With the way the handle is designed, when you hold it even at waist height, it constantly points to the ground and cannot look up enough so all you get is ground shots.
Next, when you use follow mode (it looks where you point it), it constantly needs recentering. This makes it very irritating and jerky to use.
And the tracking is diabolical. If you are moving and your subject it, the moment it loses tracking (which is will easily), it doesn't revert back to follow mode like you would expect a sensible design to do. It just goes haywire and points in all directions.
If you are holding it at chest height and doing ninja walks whilst filming static or slow subjects, it will do the job. Anything beyond that though, it is utterly useless with the vertical tilt and centering issues.
I didn't think the OM3 was enough of an upgrade over the 2, but I think the compactness and improved functionality of the OM4 justify an upgrade. Looking forward to testing it out with my iPhone Xr with Moment anamorphic lens.

Interesting concept. I’m happy with my OM3 but I would rather want an updated gimbal a 360 ration option. Looking forward for the next osmo pocket and hoping it has 360.
Got mine yesterday. Already planning big things with it. Watch a couple tutorials and you will get the hang of it. From there....go for it and have fun. I love it.

Question on the new OM 4. How does magnetic mount handle heavier phones like iPhone 11 Pro Max with case when the gimbal is subjected to shaking (Running, driving or maybe even riding the roller coaster 🎢 )? Have you been able to test what are the limits on the magnet holding under extreme conditions?

Why not stick the magnet to the iPhone case back, instead of directly to the phone back, if want to keep phone protected?

I wondered the same, esp as I already had a magnetic disk on back of case for my in car magnetic phone holder. Once I connected my phone app to the gimbal, it came up with the error that there was additional vibration detected and did I have it connected to case rather than directly to phone? Erm... yep. Worth a try, but it knew the difference and didn't like it lol

Yes! Great video! I have the OM4 and I believe it is well worth the $149.00. You can now take a much more steady video with your cell phone (I too have the iPhone 11 Pro Max) while walking and enjoying the outdoors. In the past I have tried making videos while walking through the woods where I grew up. One path was a favorite of hundreds of young people going to and from school over decades and I wanted to video it so all those student can relive fond memories. It was a much more convenient shortcut than walking the village streets and it was ALWAYS safe. Anyway, my videos have always come out with the "walking/bobbing" motion inherent in most less expensive video cameras even with minor stabilization. I can't wait to try videoing the path while using the OM4! It will be AWESOME!

I’m really enjoying the OM4 and this upload sealed the deal on me getting it.
I use the iPhone 11 Pro Max and prefer the wireless charging feature on it almost exclusively … unfortunately the stick on ring interferes with wireless charging - so don’t use the ring if you use wireless chargers.
The clamp works very well and the motors cope if you don’t get it PERFECTLY balanced and centred on the gimbal.
I’m happy with my purchase and after just one day using, really happy with the results.

I really like the clamp for the OM for the other functions are nice but the versatility of being able to just stick my phone right on it and go have saved me so much time
