Kyla is well admired by her co-artist.. Even Regine expressed her admiration to Kyla’s artistry not only once but several times. In a recent interview.. KZ stated that Kyla is one of the best if not the best singer in the Philippines. She explained that no one does the runs better than Kyla ;)
Regine is Still the one... Imagine a singer that can combine emotions and belting perfectly.... Her emotions never compromise even if she is belting.. I just love her.. She is not trying it just comes out naturally... She always expresses more than to impress 😍
Kyla’s runs are so great that it allowed her to stay in the industry for so long. Kyla’s voice is so distinct she does’nt sound like anybody else. And the charisma, looks of a star, you just love her.

I still believe Kyla is the QUEEN of RnB, I grew up listening to her music and she never fails to impress me with her runs. Well, Katrina is my baby and she's got her own thing too. Both are greats singers. I recommend, listen to Kyla's compilation of melismatic acts. Trust me, you'll not get disappointed.

The thing that made Kyla Queen of RNB was because she started and paved the way for RNB to get into the Philippine scene, not only by covering American RNB songs, but mostly with her ORIGINAL SONGS which include Filipino RNB songs. What we love about her is she is not arrogant and exaggerated with her skills. She is known to change famous songs into her own RNB rendition even Filipino folk songs in an impromptu. They were made to do it by Vice Ganda, together with Morissette, but they were all awed by how Kyla does it. She amases and surprises people. She can even scat an entire song. And most of all, by being Filipino, most of us are tired by constant belting, which Kyla can, as you observed. She tries not to be stereotyped as a belter but an all-rounder. We love her for her smooth soothing voice, and her riffs and runs. Is not about how long she has been in the music industry, it is her musicality that makes her the Philippines’ Queen of RNB

Its because Kyla doesnt need to belt so much to prove herself. She has proven her worth as a Filipino artist through time and she started to promote RnB in the Philippines during the 90s. Regine and Kyla are the masters and KZ and Morisette are the new generation of singers. We give Kyla the same respect we give to Regine.

Its just that before all these new and young singers who can do perfect runs came in the scene, Kyla is the first one to incorporate runs into almost all her singing that's why she was dubbed as the rnb princess, and JayR as her male counterpart. There were only a few of them who do that because Filipino singers before sings very traditionally. Like, they sing in karaoke and focus more on belting.

Oh my Kyla!!! I guess Ovela, the reason why Kyle doesn't belt most of the time is because it isn't necessary sometimes. Kyla is much more of feeling the song and conveying the message the lyrics has. Just Once is one of my favorite songs of all time and hearing Regine sing it makes the fanboy out of me. James Ingram song + Regine = eargasm to the max! Morisette is always on point. I like her low notes here. KZ, she topped her parts with flavorful touch in them, that high part at the last song is just soothing and inviting for me to hear again. But with Regine, hats off and hands down to her. She is really a Queen. She doesn't need to prove herself anymore but she always keeps herself at the top of her game whenever she perform. That's for me is an artist. I love this performance bec correct, the back up singers did a great job and the arrangement is on point as well. As a fan, I feel sad that Kyla doesn’t get a great reaction from this channel. I think that’s fine because I understand that Ovela’s preference is more into strong belters / thick voices and Kyla is neither. But what separates her from other great singers is her musicality. I don’t like her covering songs that require her to belt so much. I wish this channel finds her How High the Moon performances.
On Katrina Velarde’s runs, she is great no doubt! Underrated even. But Kyla has that RnB tone that is innate. She can do insane runs even if those didn’t exist in the original song. Her transitions to chest and head voice are smooth like butter.

Agree... But as what they say "to each his own", we have our own preferences... But I think let us be careful on commenting especially when it comes to technicality... like runs and riffs. Please refer to Natalie Weiss' channel on how runs and riffs are carefully measured and analyzed, she is a PRO.

I dont think katrina ang morisette can do kyla's difficult runs and spins. The artistry and style she does in breaking a song and making it her own makes her different from the rest of the typical belters in the philippines. KZ can justify that. Plus she's very humble.

Morissette is coming to the USA, on March 1 and 2nd, and I'll be able to watch her full show this time. I went to Manila in Dec just to see her perform at the Robinsons Mall stops, and enjoyed it, but it was too short. But now, I hope she'll perform a lot more songs. So excited!

Uhm Katrina is a legit belter but RUNS? NO. Kyla all the way. You obviously haven’t seen a lot of Kyla’s performances. And she’s the Queen of R&B btw. Been in the industry for 2 decades now. And still very much relevant. She has proven herself time and time again. Has gained the respect of a lot of her contemporaries and seniors. Will the newbies be able to sustain their career? Well I guess we’ll just have to see....
Agree. Runs and riffs are not only about PLAYING with notes... It is how you hit and put each and every single note where they should be... Kyla was known to have the cleanest runs and riffs in the Philippines, she can give justice to even the most complicated ones. And about belting and hitting the high notes... I would like to think that singing is not all about it. Kyla can definitely belt... but she don't need to belt each and every single time just because others are doing it. Most of the time we are always fond of those high notes (adlibs) that sometimes we didn't taken consideration if those are really needed in the song. One more thing, I think Kyla is one of the most distinctive voices in the Philippines...not common, unique.
