The older breed of German shepherds looked way cooler. All of the older breeds looked way healthier. The newer breeds look freakish by comparison. Definitely sad.
I have heard that the German shepherd actually from Germany has a straight back. While the American version has the slanted back because of AKC breeding. They believe that when the back is slanted the rear legs form a 90 degree angle and that is more attractive. I had a dog that was part German shepherd and his back was totally straight however he did get hip dysphasia.
jason wagus same with mine we had to put mine dowm because he had hip dysplasia too. i miss him sooo much he was a big baby. but he was bigger than the way the described the older ones.
Agree. GSD are supposed to be working dogs. Smart, useful, protective, healthy... the half frog half dog is so hard to look at because you know they are in pain. I am lucky to have a flat back girl but so many are in pain.
I don't understand why people think a pushed in snout, an avalanche of extra skin, sunken eyes, or other general deformities look good. How did these inhibiting traits that are little short of disabilities become a standard? A century ago, if a human had traits such as that, they could find work in a circus.
Never found pushed faced dogs cute. All that heavy breathing, snorting and grunting. The poor things are suffering before your very eyes...Personally I could never stand watching a pet I love suffer everyday of it's life.
That would mean that, to you, rescued purebreeds are not worth it to be your companion? Lol I get not buying them and supporting the crooked system behind breeding, but not adopting either? Thats some hypocritical bs. As if purebreeds couldn't be good companions. Abused and sick dogs deserve a good home even more.
@@_Obey_ of course abused dogs deserve our world. But I would say that mutts have it harder because they won't get as easily adopted than a "cute" purebred shelter dog6
Yeah but I did buy a French bulldog from a breeder cuz their original dogs were rescues and their well bred so then they don’t have any problems and their breeding them to undo the previous mistakes
Mulli Godingar no they looked the same, let's start with that these fakts are fake that those pics with dogs are just another king of dog with a black and white filter
No it is actually true, maybe or or two weren't completely spot on but they were all the same dog breeds. People started breeding them for their looks and damned be all about their health since good traits for the hunting, guarding, herding ext are no longer "needed" traits to be kept.
I had an English Bulldog imported from Hungary. His legs and nose were longer then the ones bred here in the us. Due to that. He was athletic and could breath. He lived to be 13.5 yrs old. It's sad what they've done to this breed. R.I.P Tonka. May 5th 2005 - Oct 12th 2018.
Where do you think human come from? Out of your ass? Human evolved from monkey which also come from nature. Everything we do is completely natural. So stop bitching, cuz you don't know shit about anything.
@devilcorn gaming1234 Yes, human is not the only animal that kills for fun. Search it up. The urge to kill is natural but I didn't say it was good. Animal cruelty is bad but it's natural.
See this is what happens when your species gets involved in things it has no right to get involved with you humans should keep your noses out of where it dosen't belong
They aren't different actually. The dwarfism in the breed occurred naturally and the breed has been very well maintained over the last century as it one of the original breeds in the American kennel club.
**THIS IS IMPORTANT ** Cavalier King Charles spaniels have been overbread THAT MUCH their skulls are actually shrinking causing there skull to crush there brains ...
This is so important, because so many people don't know this when buying a cavalier, I have one and luckily the breeders were amazing and explained everything, but I couldn't find a single thing online about it, and that scares me
@@blob5141 it is.......both by my observation and scientific principles.....see what happened with Genetically enhanced crops, although they have better produce but are very prone to diseases and require lot of chemicals for upkeep, while the natural counterparts don't produce as much, but cope much better with disease, droughts and are chemical free. Also the past of pedigree breeding is riddled with instances of inbreeding, which don't helps the cause as it makes a population prone to same genetic as well as transmissive diseases.
I know, right. I'm just asking people to NOT make it more bull faced because if it continues, we're basically going to have to put our dogs on a respirator.
Breeding for aesthetics with known negative medical consequences should be universally outlawed. It is nothing less than abuse, causes nothing than problems and is unacceptable.
@@googleuser5018 Wrong. The damage could be undone in most and maybe all cases by a combination of outbreeding and a changing of extreme/unhealthy standards. These steps have been taken in some cases, though rarely; there's nothing except stubbornness, pride, and the like keeping other breed clubs from doing the same. "Breeds" are arbitrary, anyway, most were created by mixing dogs of different types.
i study veterinarian medicine and just so you guys know, most of these dogs are a challenge for vets. not because they can do a bad job, but because these dogs usually already have so many issues that they can't heal by themselves. if your dog can't (not doesn't want to, but can't): breathe easily, eat easily, birth naturally and run (yes, this is a instintcual, inate habit) without dislocating their goddamn hip; it's not at all a happy dog. doubt me? measure their cortisol. it's painful to live without being able to breathe correctly and being unable to play (socialize) with others. would you like to undergo eye surgeries and stay at home all day because someone thought you'd just look nicer that way? inhumane.
@@luyandamlambo5803 Not necessarily. Selective breeding can come from any selection of certain features, such as a smaller head, curvier back, a docile trait, or even a larger tolerance to the cold weather, for example. Some people selectively breed at home for specific traits like a shorter snout for example, because they believe it looks nicer. The issue is that they don't study the side effects on the animal, such as dificulty breathing, and that anyone can selectively breed while unknowingly harming the animal. Some zoologists selective breed for a better quality of life or recessive traits while being informed of the side effects, which is more recommended and benefits the animal.
Litara Duodox so they breed them with dog breeds with that feature like breeding Labradors with pugs or does overbreeding the same breed cause it to change
Like, I get that the dog wouldn’t look the same over a 100 years, but this is honestly outrageous.. No dog should suffer just because we want them to look a certain way
There are dogs that look the same over thousands of years. Because those dogs came to be and continue to thrive because of the function they serve for the people that value them for it. Look at "The Dogs of Our Ancestors" to start.
The Smug Doge its not saying that the dogs were bigger but all the breeding gives the dogs defects and they can easily get sick and die. like pugs if u dont keep cleaning their nose constantly they can die decause of all the mucus they produce.
you should blame the common buyer how many owners have EVER gone to or seen a dogshow? so how many owners are affected by these shows?? it's a graduate process and it's the buyers who said to the breeders what they'd like to see more in that breed
Is not the dog shows fault. The fault lies on the idiots that wanted to prove they had the better dog. Dogs shows are just the way they taught of doing it. If they had not thought of the shows they would have thought of something else.
Well, if dog shows had clauses that would ban unhealthy dogs or dogs with chronic maladies (such as the hip problems caused by the German Shepherds sloping back), first of all, it would send a very strong signal that some things are just not desirable. Secondly, many consumers and breeders alike are rather obsessed with the shows. Even if a consumer don't want to enter competitions, many still feel pride if their pup comes from an award-winning coupling.
+Sofia Pereira - I disagree - dog shows are sponsored by breed clubs and kennel clubs. They are the ones who create the standards to which the dogs must conform in order to compete.
Aren't they also all descended from only six common ancestors now? I believe I read somewhere that during WWII (correct me if I'm wrong), their population dropped to only six dogs. I'm pretty sure it was the King Charles Cavalier. If it's true, that means they're all heavily inbred as well, which will cause even MORE problems. It's dad, because they're a gorgeous dog . . .
KattriellaDoesStuff yes but They have a bigger gene pool now it’s fine as long as dog shows stop breeding mothers with sons and grandchildren with grandparents:ect
Yup. Humans are the worst. How many other animals (using the term to describe any living creatures made up of more than a single cell😜) have singlehandedly almost completely destroyed their home planet while simultaneously screwing up pretty much everything else in it in one way or another? The answer: None. Humans suck. That’s why I decided not to be one. Think I’ll be Mermaid...maybe a unicorn....Unicorns are awesome. NO! A DRAGON. Yeah. Definitely a dragon. Dragons are badass. Who’s with me? 🦄🧜🏻♀️🐉
dawkub 12 fake?!? Bro, breeding dogs with others dogs in the same breed is like impregnating your mother. An inbred baby is born with hundreds of diseases!
You know those German shepherds still exist today and are actually the more common type in the general population. The only place you are going to see a German shepherd that has such a deformed back like that is exclusively in show rings.
Sorry, but working line German Shepherds look amazing and the police and military have a lot of success with them. Some show line German Shepherds are bred horribly, but working line German Shepherds are bred for health and work drive over appearance. I've had working line shepherds all my life, none of them ever had any severe health problems.
Ashes B As I said before, not sure if you even thoroughly read my comment before jumping to calling them "frog legged", But there are working line Sheherds that do not have sloped backs. They are bred for work drive and health and temperament over appearance. Malinois and GSD are BOTH the preferred breeds for military. Just finished watching a short documentary about military working dogs and their handlers, and majority of the dogs were German Shepherds and a solider being interviewed even said himself that malinois, gsd, and Dutch Shepherds are their breeds of choice.
***** Exactly. I have two working line German Shepherds. One is all black and my other is dark sable. They are both lean and compact. They have straight backs and have extremely high prey drive, always ready to work. That's how a GSD should be. People who don't know a lot about this breed seem to be fixated on the show line German Shepherds that you see in the show ring, rather than taking notice in the REAL working German Shepherds.
+Mercedes They still have health problems, just because you have not experienced them doesn't mean th aren't their in your own dogs, let alone the breed. Genetic disorders are usually due to the inbreeding used to create the breed, not the physical attributes of said breed, therefore all GSDs are prone to roughly the same genetic illnesses. Your GSD doesn't look like a Grey Wolf, but it is one, same species, just inbred to the point that it looks the way it does, that is what causes the genetic defects. You seem to be taking it too personally, I had a Labrador, they are working dogs, they are still prone to hip dysplasia which can cause them large amounts of pain. This was the case with my own dog, doesn't mean he was a bad dog for it, he did everything a Lab was bred to do. GSDs are bred for strength, speed, obedience and ease of training, and they do this very effectively, they are bred for purpose, health is irrelevant or they would have been left as grey wolves, they ALL are prone to genetic disease.
Tristan Behrens You didn't tell me anything I don't already know lol. And not taking it "too personally", I'm simply bringing the working line gsd to light since majority of people only seem to think the show line, over sized, sloped back gsds exist. There are much more capable and healthier gsds out there from working lines.
Kennel club breed standards. They listed a sloping back as ideal, so breeders selected for that trait. The German Shepherd with the most sloped back will win best of breed.
Only in the U.S. German Shepherd Dogs in Germany and most of Europe are bred to the original standard and are much healthier than in the U.S. Breeders in this country will reject this because they have too much invested in the broken-down, half crippled Sheps they've created.
It's all about showing and winning at dog shows. It's also all competition between breeders *oh my dog is so much better than your dog and he will win 1st place at shows whereas yours won't even get 4th*
God you people see one video and you think that this shit is universal they are working dogs too who are breed for their working ability ... And now reputable breeder are doing medical check up to try to eliminate those genetic disease ...
They are very frail for sighthounds though. Greyhounds have a similar height and build but have been bred for speed and endurance, so they're a lot sturdier. Salukis look more gangly now than they used to. No dog breed has been left untouched by selective breeding. There's many ancient dog breeds still around today, but every breed has a "breed standard" and breeders still selectively aim for that when picking which dogs should mate. Salukis are no exception.
Copperheid actually some breeds are not affected so badly in general dogs that are still typically working dogs even today such as collies are rarely bred for looks but are instead bred to be able to work well. When dogs are bred for strength, intellect and health the dog can be superior to its past counter parts. I think that selective breeding although being horrific is to an extent Necessary in some dog breeds. I suppose that all dogs have been effected by selective breeding but not all in a bad way. Seriously collies are ranked the most intelligent dog cause they were selectively bred to be intelligent so that they could herd sheep.
Dog breeders then: "I will make dogs more useful, stronger and healthier" Dog breeders now: "I will make that dog cutier and I don't care he can't even breath"
I wonder since when people think dogs with an inverted face look cute. I know taste is subjective, but pugs and bulldogs look, and sound like abominations
Most people consider their own dog "the smartest". There have actually not been any scientific tests that compared the intelligence of dog breeds. There have, however been some people who tested dog breeds' trainability and mislabeled their results as intelligence. In reality though, a dog that doesn't do what you tell it, because it considers the reward you offer to be worthless, doesn't necessarily have to be less intelligent than one who obeys your every word.
animalobsessed1 easy answer to that. I conclude that the stray Moscow dogs are THE smartest dogs as they are even smart enough to RIDE FUCKING TRAINS AND KNOW HOW TO GET FOOD IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS BASED ON THEIR LOCATION OR BASED ON THE HUMAN POPULATION OF THE AREA. You can look it up on google where you can find more information. Really it is natural selection at its finest. Some of the strays learned to ride trains and some learned to recognize humans who have them food as a way to remember them when they come back. Even making packs or "families".
+ animalobsessed1 well.. true. i guess. but the Border Collie is the fastest learner, is you say a dogs smartness hasn't been tested. and the poodle is the 2nd "Fastest Learner"
In the late 1960's, I was reading a news story about the medical problems of pure bred Red Irish Setters. The solution was breeding them with Golden Setters. This inter breeding improved the Red Irish Setters medical issues. Because of the inter breeding, the American Kennel Club refused to accept the Red Irish Setter as pure breds. Why isn't PETA and the Humane Society actively pursuing the AKC, breeders, and Veterinarians for cruelty to animals.
This video is entirely missing the fact that Dog breeds only exist BECAUSE humans intervened in their natural genetic evolution. They would all be much more wolf-like today, in 12,000 or so years we expedited changes in the species which would naturally occur much slower, if at all. That said I am very much against "designer dog breeding".
Actually, dogs never descended from wolves. They didn't resemble them, not until later years of breeding. Cats and Dogs descended from a species that resembled a ferret. It is found that groups of the original species went separate ways too evolve in separate conditions. Dogs went to colder areas, becoming bigger, furrier, and more dog-like. They also evolved beside man. Cats evolved in hotter climates, and did not come into contact with humans until later periods of time. They became desert animals.
If we did make them did we really have to give them so many problems?? Just because we made the breeds doesn’t mean the issues weren’t for nothing! Millions of dogs have heart problems, breathing problems, and more! My cousins dog loves to run I can’t bear the thought of her not being able to because of us ☹️
This is what you get when people start breeding for some mucked-up concept of 'beauty' rather than function...and the poor dogs are the ones to suffer for it.
You do realize that the German Shepherd was bred for function, right? Hitler bred them like that so they'd be able to jump over high walls more easily.
@@yanderela3527 The German shepherd is one of the BEST examples of what byrn said. Max von Stephanitz, who developed the breed in the late 19th century, would be horrified at what current day show line German shepherds are like, at least in the U.S.; I don't know what European show lines are like. (Even if you're right about Hitler, it's irrelevant, because that was EIGHTY YEARS AGO, meaning 15 - 20 dog generations ago. The breed has changed since then.) Von Stephanitz developed a dog with all-around working ability and intelligence, and he prioritized on quickly breeding out defects. Working line GSDs may still resemble the dog von Stephanitz developed, but the show line dogs, while still typically intelligent, are weirdly slope-backed, often have wobbly gaits, and are riddled with health problems -- hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, bloat, epilepsy, hemophilia, diabetes, cataracts, degenerative disc disease, panosteitis, allergies, pancreatitis, thyroid issues, several types of cancer, bladder issues, liver disease, bladder issues and anal furunculosis. Many of them are too unhealthy to be the working dog von Stephanitz envisioned. So much for function.
Gijs Hagenaars i can confirm that mister, humans made this little "teacup yorkie" which is a much MUCH smaller "version" of the normal, healthy yorkshire terrier, these teacup yorkies are, fragile as in health, because of their size they live about as much as a syrian hamster and they're more likely to develop life threatening conditions, first you've got the normal yorkie, then you've got the smaller version of the yorkie, the smaller version is not as small as the teacup thing and is around a pug's size, but if you want a good dog then just try to identify the full size ones, they're very good house pets and are ok with anyone that you bring into your house,(well as long as they're not gypsies lol,my yorkie barks at people who shout stuff but other than that he's fine with anyone, and little kids,as long as they don't pull his tail,i had my younger cousin pet him and he understood that some people are younger)
Roby Miller Do you realize that each of these dogs are specific breeds...thats right, breeds developed by mankind over many many years......They were selectively bred and then line bred to have certain traits and abilities to fit certain tasks,...ALL for FUNCTION...It is only now or in recent years that these breeds are having these problems..Mostly because people are now soo solitary and wimpy that these Breeds have been altered MORE for looks only as opposed to function....So mankind is ruining what mankind did so well in the past !! So it was "us" that originally created what you call "already beautiful creatures"
Roby Miller You idiot, do you not understand that Chihuahuas, Dobermans, Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Collies, Terriers, greyhounds, yorkis, daschounds, beagles, various bulldogs,..ect,.. were NOT born into this world originally ?? You are an absoulute moron !! NONE of these dog breeds were natural species !!
Yeah all those animals in the wild would certainly go extinct if the hunters left them alone. And by hunters, I mean poachers and people that just kill the animals because they can.
Natural selection usually makes sure that only traits that best help an animal breed are the traits that are passed on to the next generation, while weaker less "fit" traits usually dies out as it does not help the creature survive and thrive. However, depending on population size, things like genetic drift can wipe out a trait quickly in a small population, but most negative effects are the result of some disaster. The extent of what humans have done to dogs would never happen naturally. Just look at wolves, which are the result of natural selection as apposed to artificial selection that home dog breeds were subjected to.
there's just a handful of people who aren't complete idiots in the world. its sad to think that we did that to dogs and that we're the cause of most of the bad shit on earth
"Purebred" is not a good description of dogs that are so inbred that their genetics has led them to have more and more problems. In fact instead of "purebred", a more accurate way of puting it would be "pure inbred".
The black lab is the original of Labrador’s And they are the best. I had a female black for 12 years, she was so faithful and protective!! No in breeding!
Thats all show dog stuff. You can fine very healthy pure bred dogs from reputable responsible breeders, i have my dogs ancestry and no inbreeding with him has occurred and he has been health tested and was cleared for every common issue with german shepherds and has been hip tested only has a 5% chance of having hip dysplasia
Well in a way the only pure bred is the wolf: totally adapted to survive in nature. But I understand why people would call members of a race (at 99.99999%) pure bred.
Ear cropping and tail docking is usually done by show breeders and idiots that think it make the dog look better or tougher. I have never met anyone that docked a pitbulls tail though. Who does that?
dawkub 12, you are wrong. The video is very well real. The fact that these dogs have these kinds of problems just proves that the black and white photos are real. We don't see those original dogs anymore. It isn't fake at all. This is what selective breeding does to a species.
***** and I'm telling you, the dog has no opinions towards its health or lifestyle, it just takes what it can get a deals with it. That's why even with all of these health problems you'll find many dogs from the breeds shown in the video that managed to live happy, fullfilled lives.
Jeez. A dog can choose to have a sloppy back or a straight back in your opinion? Or to have a narrow snout and long legs? Never knew you have the power to choose your aspect before birth, you must have superpowers dude.
Yeah, there are working line shepherds bred for temperament, health, and drive over appearance. My two working line shepherds have completely straight backs and they're both males and only weigh around 65 lbs. Gotta love the working line shepherds, they're more true to the original GSD.
I think the same applies for the cocker spaniels too! There is the working line and the line intended for showing purposes... I'm not sure when the split in the breed types occurred though.
Its mostly europan german shepherds thats breeded down to that disgracefull shape, most american german shepherds has it original form. just as well as the white, black and long coated german shepherd, because they are not consideren a part of the breed... you can thank the nazi for ruining the german shepherd.
Madelaine Thomsen The coat color has nothing to do with the "form" of the gsd. And blame nazis? What are you even talking about lol. The blame should be on all the breeders who bred their Shepherds just for appearance and purposely wanted their Shepherds to have arched backs and walk on their hocks.
Breeder: How should the dog look like? Human: Nose smaller, Leggs smaller, Much more skin Breeder: But then, there are some painful problems for the dog Human: Shut up, this looks good, breed it like how I said! (Sorry for my bad english, I'm german)
Breeder didn't care about the dog's health, the buyer probably also didn't know it'd be bad for the dog. Buyer: aww look at this pugs flat face it's so cute! Breeder: i am now going to exclusively breed pugs with flat faces so that i can earn more money Buyer: *buys the new breeded dogs* Breeder: *keeps exxagerating the features* Don't blame the buyer or breeder no one intended for this to happen nor knew thisd happen we know now and you shouldn't buy or breed pugs Bulldogs etc.
Sorry if this makes you mad, I actually don't like the sight of pugs. This is absolutely not because I hate them; it is because I feel so sorry for them. People keep breeding these poor dogs, and now they end up in a poor state.
Su Nguyen bcs feeling sorry is disguisting trait, nobody wants your pity not even the pugs ,wanna help them get one and try make his life as better as you can
If feeling sorry is wrong, Then, when you see a certain living being in a bad state, how should you feel, to make it right? I didn't say not adopting pugs though; that's a good behavior on our part, as long as people don't keep breeding more of them that is. Problem is, most people get pugs because they think the traits that make pugs uncomfortable, are cute. That's wrong.
Alana Drayer interbreeding they did the same with humans. the problem was back in the day they felt some dogs in a certain breed where better then others so if a pug had a curved tail which was unique they would find another dog with a curved tail and make them breed unfortunately that other dog was usually a family member. their children would end up having a much more curved tail then the parents. that's how inbreeding works it exaggerates certain body traits. they did the same to humans as they believed some humans where more superior to others so cousins ended up getting married and stuff
Usually it's not money, actually. Most breeders, excepting puppy mills who don't breed for show and don't care about changing breed standards, spend way more on the dogs than they make in general. It's about their perception of the breed standards as written, and how judging for extremes is the norm. For example, in Neos, wrinkling is written into the breed standard, so the judges put up dogs with more wrinkling regardless of the point at which it becomes a hindrance. We need more dog judges who put up healthy and sound dogs before they put up extremes.
If you want to change this, become involved in dog showing and work your way up to be a judge. Then, put up dogs that are sound and healthy over extreme dogs. The diversity of breeds is important to our society in countless ways, from service dogs to home companions who fit our lifestyles. Preserving that diversity and health is a worthwhile cause.
B. Vaughn I've been an animal welfare enforcement officer for 23 years. I put them out of business sometimes. Even sometimes prohibited from owning any animal for life. Compare American GSD with European GSD. American have hip dysplasia, European smaller and can actually work. Judges are enablers.
@Hallie B. Re: "...Reputable breeders aren't in it for the money but to better the breed..." No, "responsible" breeders want to win dog shows... and they have to produce the deformed phenotypes judges reward in order to do that. They define "winning dog shows" as automatically being better. It isn't.
They bred Bull Terriers like that bechase dogfighting was all the rage and they wanted Bull Terriers to have lots of teeth in belief that it would make them better fighters (I have an antique poster showing various dog breeds considered dangerous back then, like bull terriers and dachshunds and it’s titled “I’m Not Afraid”)
a god wouldn't do such a thing to an animal, especially one as loyal and helpful as these. But you know what would? Evil, that's what makes everything bad or as they(dog breeders, NOT ALL but indeed some)considered these dogs to be, IMPERFECT, UNFITTING, NEEDS SOME CHANGES TO BE DONE. This deeply infuriating me to know that such a thing was made into reality by us(humans).
The God whose son's birthday we just celebrated but actually the son is actually the God Himself but Christmas is not God's birthday, it's his son's birthday even though the father and the son is the same thing but they also aren't the same thing. You get me?
+Ebon Hawk I know there is a lot more shit going on, I watch Liveleak almost every day. Yet, I'm most shocked by what humans do to animals and mother nature, not by what humans do to eachother. Peace
I'm lucky enough to have an "old styled" German Shepherd. She is healthy and doesn't have these leg problems. Why do humans do this? They don't look cuter (most of them) and you're effing up their lives.
I had an " old styled" german shepard as well. Sadly she passed away. But if i knew she was what german shepards use to look like. I would have found a male and breed them to gether and bring them back
Even old style GSD are already messed up, they all have "sickle hocks". However, the DDR and Czech working bloodlines German Shepherd and Berger Blanc Suisse are the least affected.
I don't understand why people want purebreds so badly anyways. What's the point of getting a dog that looks exactly the same as Joe Schmo's dog just down the street? A mutt will always be more desirable to me for its healthier genetics (relatively speaking) and genuine uniqueness that isn't easily replicated.
For one thing my GSD does not look like a joe schmo dog most people think hes part wolf when they see him and is extremely healthy. Plus people want a dog with certain traits like intelligence.
@@bickle8931 a shepherd mix will easily be more unique and intelligent than a reg shepherd, provided you don't have it mixed with a dumb breed. Not that your dog isnt smart or unique, but he would be smarter and less ordinary if he was a mix, thats a fact
+Greyandgreenfeathers it doesn't apply to all dogs and there's no guarantee that a mutt will benefit from both parents. the video is already show the results. some purebred dogs is loosing it's unique trait or instinct by mixing them.
Yes, these physically, and some times mentally deformed dogs that used to be just fine are incredibly cute. I especially love the strange, heavy, squeaking panting noise that pugs make. The sound of their pain is absolutely adorable.
I just feel like I should share my opinions on this. Some may agree: It was either the American German Shepherd, or the English German Shepherd, but one of the lines have arched backs whereas the other has a flat top line like the one in the 'old' picture. Also, the dachshund. Not entirely sure which image was supposed to be the 'old' one, but I have a feeling it was meant to be the last image, which is actually a wirehaired dachshund. The 'old' Saluki actually looks more like a young male who has noticed a squeaky toy. The pug used in the picture comparison looks quite overweight. If you search up 'pug show dog' they look very similar to the black and white photo used, except with slightly broader shoulders (the 'old' one looks like a young dog). I don't know very much about the Bull Terrier seeing as I have never personally met anyone who shows them, so I can't argue anything there. Same goes for the boxer. For the white terrier, for all I know, you could be correct. Although, I have seen a dog somewhere that looks like that. I tried searching it up but I couldn't remember the breed. The bearded collie looks more like a rough collie or a border collie bred with an Irish Wolfhound. Although, you could be correct. Apart from the facial shape of the Saint Bernard used, I really don't see a difference. I agree with you on the Basset Hound. The legs have definitely become much shorter and the ears are much longer. To me, everything about the English Bulldog is wrong (as in, the dog itself, not what you said). For starters, they struggle with walking and breathing (much like the pug). But, for most English Bulldogs, they cannot breed naturally due to their very stout legs and broad shoulders. This means that they must be artificially inseminated. Having puppies also puts lots of strain on the female and breeding also carries potentially life-threatening risks (eg. the death of the female during birthing). Thanks for listening/reading my poinion.
Actually it is neither as there are no American or English GSDs there is the Shiloh shepard and King shepard which have straight toplines and proper angulation. look them up they do tend to be large though. If you want to see what a good GSD should look like check out the Malinois or Dutch Shepard and then make them bigger with heavier bone
mike d. No good Gsd lookd like a Malinoirls or Dutchie :) A good Gsd comes from working bloodlines ,preferably from West German or Czech lines and has proper angulation and body proportions (not like those of the Mal). Mals ans Gsds are two very different breeds, Gsds are not meant to be square like mals and vise versa.
I'm Australian, so I really don't refer to them as West German Showlines. My mum (who used to be a massive dog person before she had my brother and I and had to tone down on the showing) told me that there were two types of German Shepherds, the straight top line and the roached top line. It was quite a few years ago that she mentioned it, I might've just heard 'America' in there somewhere and forgotten. If so, my bad, sorry! And yeah, they did have roaching top lines. To be honest, I feel like the creator of this video tried to find the most horrible (or slightly deformed), yet recognisable, images of these dogs for their 'now' pictures.
There is such thing as American line Gsds, those are from show bloodlines but they do not have roached backs. The ones with roached backs are the West German showlines. In this video there were mainly WGSLs.
Before Tommorow we did not make them. Animals have been been evolving over time and made what we call today... Dogs. We dont deserve to be on this planet but we are on it.
St. Bernards never carried casks to "warm up" the people they rescued. This is an urban legend due to a famous painting. About 15 seconds of research would have debunked that. Stop spreading nonsense. It makes me question every single other "fact" in this video.
Thank you. I was just about to post this. I have a St Bernard and know that's not true. Also the only change bred into the breed was after a bad winter where many of the dogs died on rescue missions they used the Newfoundland and some came out long haired. Ice would cake up on the long hair so they stopped using the long haired ones. Also their face is like that for a reason. It helps them breathe in the snow and ice. So yeah this is B.S.
I know, the entire thing about white terriers is false they are still pretty athletic for being a small dog and are still capable or doing the task they were bred for, fox hunting
I agree with you, this guy is full of nonsense. Facts? He doesn’t know about dogs in the first place, he simply takes a subject that will appeal common folk that no nothing about dogs.
as a family we are in the German shepherd breeding industry, and by heck we hate it when we see people breeding dogs that look like hunchbacks. all our dogs are happy, big, fluffy and look normal. also all our dogs have brilliant hips and elbows and are all disease free.
My friend owns a straight backed German Shepherd! Her friend has been working on the line for years and all his dogs are exremely healthy and have perfectly straight backs
A friendly friend had a German Shepherd (Cheyenne) who died a few days ago, he didn't have a hunched back, actually, I have never seen a dog in Canada or anywhere else but the USA with a hunched back, I am just curious if this is a US thing only?
@@xAspenn what I meant by straight back is her hips aren’t lowered like the usually are in the breed. Their fairly even with her shoulders. Even at 6 years old she shows no signs of joint or back problems that are common with her breed. My point is she looks a lot like German shepherd did before we started breeding for the lowered hips.
@@wintershock angulation is located in the croup, which is to better help the breed trot more efficiently. 3 point stacks can create the illusion of a “sloping back”, but in reality there is only angulation in the rear. if i were to stack a Labrador retriever in a 3 point stack, it would also appear to have a “slope”. in a 4 point stack, german shepherds will have a level top line complete lack of angulation in the croup, however, is a sign of poor breeding.
@@xAspenn she isn’t completely level, just no extreme angles. I apologize for how confusing I may be, I don’t speak English much. However, my dog isn’t an American German shepherd. She’s a Czech working line so she isn’t supposed to have much of a slope. Only a slight, almost unnoticeable one. She almost fits the breed standard perfectly although she’s a little taller 61 cm.
I had a dog that was part German shepherd and his back was totally straight however he did get hip dysphasia.
yeah man the bull dog was far stronger
jason wagus same with mine we had to put mine dowm because he had hip dysplasia too. i miss him sooo much he was a big baby. but he was bigger than the way the described the older ones.
Agree. GSD are supposed to be working dogs. Smart, useful, protective, healthy... the half frog half dog is so hard to look at because you know they are in pain. I am lucky to have a flat back girl but so many are in pain.
Willie The new dog breeds is the result of a hundred years of inbreeding
I don't understand why people think a pushed in snout, an avalanche of extra skin, sunken eyes, or other general deformities look good. How did these inhibiting traits that are little short of disabilities become a standard? A century ago, if a human had traits such as that, they could find work in a circus.
You can thank the AKC etc for that. They're responsible for "breed standards" that led to exaggerated features in all breeds.
It's following the whole "it's so ugly it's cute!" Thought process. It's "fine" for animals but people don't want to fall under that category.
Pugs and bulldogs sometimes have asthma and other breathing problems because of their snouts 😢
Never found pushed faced dogs cute. All that heavy breathing, snorting and grunting. The poor things are suffering before your very eyes...Personally I could never stand watching a pet I love suffer everyday of it's life.
Even now if a human had these traits they could be in a circus, terrible comparison, stay on the topic of dogs

Won't happen. No point. The damage is done.

i study veterinarian medicine and just so you guys know, most of these dogs are a challenge for vets. not because they can do a bad job, but because these dogs usually already have so many issues that they can't heal by themselves. if your dog can't (not doesn't want to, but can't): breathe easily, eat easily, birth naturally and run (yes, this is a instintcual, inate habit) without dislocating their goddamn hip; it's not at all a happy dog.

When they say selective breeding causes all this what do they mean or is that something for a zoologist

I blame dog shows for the change of dogs...
you should blame the common buyer
how many owners have EVER gone to or seen a dogshow?
so how many owners are affected by these shows??
it's a graduate process and it's the buyers who said to the breeders what they'd like to see more in that breed
Blame mankind to mess up with genetics without thinking on the consequences.
Aleo even about your dog shows claim... who make it?
+Sofia Pereira - I disagree - dog shows are sponsored by breed clubs and kennel clubs. They are the ones who create the standards to which the dogs must conform in order to compete.
Forgot the cavalier king Charles spaniël. That dog suffer with pain every day because his skull is to small.
It's dad, because they're a gorgeous dog . . .
You’re right about that. They’re more inbred than the Hapsburgs and they almost beat out the Big Bird Lineage in terms of low genetic diversity.

Sorry, but working line German Shepherds look amazing and the police and military have a lot of success with them. Some show line German Shepherds are bred horribly, but working line German Shepherds are bred for health and work drive over appearance. I've had working line shepherds all my life, none of them ever had any severe health problems.
Actually, the military and police and moving away from using frog-legged German Shepherds, and are instead opting for Belgian Malinois, among others
I think the "older" German Shepherd types look much more natural.
Why are they even making their backs arched like that? Poor dogs!

Salukis are one of the oldest breeds of dog and have been unchanged for hundreds of years. They're not "skeletal", they're sighthounds.
darthkitsu your profile picture is cancerous
They are very frail for sighthounds though. Greyhounds have a similar height and build but have been bred for speed and endurance, so they're a lot sturdier. Salukis look more gangly now than they used to. No dog breed has been left untouched by selective breeding. There's many ancient dog breeds still around today, but every breed has a "breed standard" and breeders still selectively aim for that when picking which dogs should mate. Salukis are no exception.
@@waterbottle4542 agreed
Copperheid actually some breeds are not affected so badly in general dogs that are still typically working dogs even today such as collies are rarely bred for looks but are instead bred to be able to work well. When dogs are bred for strength, intellect and health the dog can be superior to its past counter parts. I think that selective breeding although being horrific is to an extent Necessary in some dog breeds. I suppose that all dogs have been effected by selective breeding but not all in a bad way. Seriously collies are ranked the most intelligent dog cause they were selectively bred to be intelligent so that they could herd sheep.
Copperheid with these “standards” it’s ok even if it hurts the dogs in the long run??
Dog breeders then:
"I will make dogs more useful, stronger and healthier"

Monika Kalecinska not really, the German shepherd is considered one of the smartest breeds in the world, I think it's in the top three.
Their names are just Irish Setter, NOT Red Irish Setter.
Peta is a joke.. they don't care when Joe Biden kicks his dogs or when Anthony Fauci kills thousands of beagles.
My cousins dog loves to run I can’t bear the thought of her not being able to because of us ☹️
Slower changes and changes that might not occur at all.

Please stop buying pugs!!! It’s not fair on them.
That Gall, IKR! they arnt cute, it’s sad they can’t breathe!
then theyd be put down in shelters and there would be an overpopulation of them until people stop breeding
yoongi is my dad no there wouldn’t. Think about it
We rescued a pug 4 years ago. At that time she was 3 years old. She needed an oxygen tube to breathe. Sadly she passed away last year
I own a "pet quality* pug and he looks just like the old pug not the modern pug
Humans shouldn't mess with a dogs biological code just to make it more "cuter". This can seriously mess up a dog's health.
Kate George just look at the fucked up dogs health because of bad breeding.
Gijs Hagenaars don't you realise that dogs wouldn't even exist if we didnt breed them?
It was incest
Oh really? I wouldn't have guessed after watching this video....
Leave it to us to fuck up already beautiful creatures...
Roby Miller
Do you realize that each of these dogs are specific breeds...thats right, breeds developed by mankind over many many years......They were selectively bred and then line bred to have certain traits and abilities to fit certain tasks,...ALL for FUNCTION...It is only now or in recent years that these breeds are having these problems..Mostly because people are now soo solitary and wimpy that these Breeds have been altered MORE for looks only as opposed to function....So mankind is ruining what mankind did so well in the past !! So it was "us" that originally created what you call "already beautiful creatures"
Strick nine We didn't create them, we domesticated them.
Roby Miller
You idiot, do you not understand that Chihuahuas, Dobermans, Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Collies, Terriers, greyhounds, yorkis, daschounds, beagles, various bulldogs,..ect,.. were NOT born into this world originally ??
You are an absoulute moron !! NONE of these dog breeds were natural species !!
John Doe They would be fine without us dumbass
Yeah all those animals in the wild would certainly go extinct if the hunters left them alone.
And by hunters, I mean poachers and people that just kill the animals because they can.
Wow we really had fuck up animals
MirceaKitsune really wow didn't know that but can tell me more about please
Natural selection usually makes sure that only traits that best help an animal breed are the traits that are passed on to the next generation, while weaker less "fit" traits usually dies out as it does not help the creature survive and thrive. However, depending on population size, things like genetic drift can wipe out a trait quickly in a small population, but most negative effects are the result of some disaster. The extent of what humans have done to dogs would never happen naturally. Just look at wolves, which are the result of natural selection as apposed to artificial selection that home dog breeds were subjected to.

These dogs are all inbreed, do to the result of hundred years of inbreeding
soyon manlai oh inbreeding has lots of negative effects. I think.
The Worst Channel obviously, thats what the point of this video was, it was to adress the negative effects of inbreeding.
There needs to be animal rights activist to bann these dogs inbreedings
That would go for every human ever so...
Brassed Off a dog would fuck their dads so I don't get your words
Well in a way the only pure bred is the wolf: totally adapted to survive in nature. But I understand why people would call members of a race (at 99.99999%) pure bred.
The “new” German Shepard doesn’t look as good as the old one. The hump back too 😂💀 still a good breed

So true!!!
Ear cropping and tail docking is usually done by show breeders and idiots that think it make the dog look better or tougher. I have never met anyone that docked a pitbulls tail though. Who does that?

A friend of mine has one about that size with a black mask. Just a gorgeous looking animal with a great temperament but big.
The dog prefers nothing since it knows nothing.
Maybe you need to explain yourself better mate
my friends German Shepherd looks the same as the old pictures
Your friends dog will be one of the "working" German Shepherd breeds then. They still look the same as before. Can't breed useless working dogs.
Human: Nose smaller, Leggs smaller, Much more skin
Breeder: But then, there are some painful problems for the dog
Human: Shut up, this looks good, breed it like how I said!

Anonym 0 its fine, your doing great
I’m Dutch and my English is terrible. Your English is much better dan mine

Breeder didn't care about the dog's health, the buyer probably also didn't know it'd be bad for the dog.

Breeder: i am now going to exclusively breed pugs with flat faces so that i can earn more money
Buyer: *buys the new breeded dogs*
Breeder: *keeps exxagerating the features*
Don't blame the buyer or breeder no one intended for this to happen nor knew thisd happen we know now and you shouldn't buy or breed pugs Bulldogs etc.

Dude, have you ever read a normal sentence before? Fuck.
Sorry if this makes you mad, I actually don't like the sight of pugs.
This is absolutely not because I hate them; it is because I feel so sorry for them.
People keep breeding these poor dogs, and now they end up in a poor state.
Su Nguyen I agree
Su Nguyen they feel sorry for you as well
Il Principe
Why?
Su Nguyen bcs feeling sorry is disguisting trait, nobody wants your pity not even the pugs ,wanna help them get one and try make his life as better as you can
If feeling sorry is wrong,
Then, when you see a certain living being in a bad state, how should you feel, to make it right?
I didn't say not adopting pugs though; that's a good behavior on our part, as long as people don't keep breeding more of them that is.
Problem is, most people get pugs because they think the traits that make pugs uncomfortable, are cute.
That's wrong.
What did these dogs do to deserve it?!?!
Alana Drayer it doesn't hurt the dog
Nvm ignore that comment I just watched the video
ask the high performens milk cow she will tell you^^
Humans found them
Poor German Shepards get hip problems so comnonly, and poor pugs breathing issues 😢😢
damn i never realized how fucking creepy some dogs look
Especially on the side
The breeders know. They don't care, money is more important.

@Hallie B.
Re: "...Reputable breeders aren't in it for the money but to better the breed..."
No, "responsible" breeders want to win dog shows... and they have to produce the deformed phenotypes judges reward in order to do that. They define "winning dog shows" as automatically being better. It isn't.
This is sad

it looked so badass and cute at the same time, now it looks dopey and the health problems makes it even worse :(
Dam you human race
They look great now:)
Why do we have to play god?
a god wouldn't do such a thing to an animal, especially one as loyal and helpful as these.
But then one of the most worshipped god wiped up the whole of humanity except for one family because humans are not perfect enough

I'm lucky enough to have an "old styled" German Shepherd. She is healthy and doesn't have these leg problems. Why do humans do this? They don't look cuter (most of them) and you're effing up their lives.
A lot of the herding lines are still good. You're right, it's pretty fucked.
They dont exist anymore..sorry to tell you the truth..the only healthy dogs remaning are the creoles (mixed ordinary dogs)
Why do humans do this? I mean if you really want to know you have a search engine.
While so many people want purebreds, I think the best bet for the health of many dogs is instead getting mutts.
EvilMonkey7818 I don't really care about what dog I get. I will take care of it pure breed or not.
That's true.
But I mean if I want a GerShep, I'mma get one. Not a mix. A full on GerShep. But I do love the mutt I have now so you aren't wrong at all 😍
For one thing my GSD does not look like a joe schmo dog most people think hes part wolf when they see him and is extremely healthy.
+Greyandgreenfeathers
it doesn't apply to all dogs and there's no guarantee that a mutt will benefit from both parents.

Yes, these physically, and some times mentally deformed dogs that used to be just fine are incredibly cute. I especially love the strange, heavy, squeaking panting noise that pugs make. The sound of their pain is absolutely adorable.
•ThatOneNerd• the sound of their pain?, wtf bro you need help
hes being sarcastic
I just feel like I should share my opinions on this. Some may agree:
It was either the American German Shepherd, or the English German Shepherd, but one of the lines have arched backs whereas the other has a flat top line like the one in the 'old' picture.

The Gsds shown here were West German Showlines...not American or English. With roaching toplines
Actually it is neither as there are no American or English GSDs there is the Shiloh shepard and King shepard which have straight toplines and proper angulation. look them up they do tend to be large though. If you want to see what a good GSD should look like check out the Malinois or Dutch Shepard and then make them bigger with heavier bone
mike d.
No good Gsd lookd like a Malinoirls or Dutchie :)
A good Gsd comes from working bloodlines ,preferably from West German or Czech lines and has proper angulation and body proportions (not like those of the Mal).

Shut the fuck up bitch
And the before picture of the boxer had pinned/trimmed ears which is not natural too
I agree with you, this guy is full of nonsense.
Interestingly enough i've only ever seen them deformed like this in american media. In germany and countries around they dont look like that at all.
Actually Franklin no surprise there. pretty much everything in america is deformed
My German Sheperd has a straight back too
A friendly friend had a German Shepherd (Cheyenne) who died a few days ago, he didn't have a hunched back, actually, I have never seen a dog in Canada or anywhere else but the USA with a hunched back, I am just curious if this is a US thing only?
My german shepherd has a straight back and looks pretty similar to a coyote. Her mom and dad also had straight backs.
all german shepherds have straight backs, including modern day showlines. angulation has to do with the croup, not the back
@@xAspenn what I meant by straight back is her hips aren’t lowered like the usually are in the breed.
3 point stacks can create the illusion of a “sloping back”, but in reality there is only angulation in the rear. if i were to stack a Labrador retriever in a 3 point stack, it would also appear to have a “slope”. in a 4 point stack, german shepherds will have a level top line
complete lack of angulation in the croup, however, is a sign of poor breeding.
@@wintershock that’s okay, that makes more sense
