Before getting a dog, please keep in mind that the dog‘s wellbeing should be your most important priority. Do not go for a dog that you think looks cute yet suffers from genetic damages due to bad breeding. Also, your local pet shelter surely has some great dogs to offer. Keep in mind that the vast majority of dogs in the world are strays. That’s something you cannot change but you can change one dog‘s life for better! :)
EDIT: Since a lot of people seem to be getting a dog now that they are working from home, please consider a dog‘s lifespan can go up to 10 or even 20 years. Covid won‘t last forever and at some point you will not have as much time as you might thought. Animal shelters will even have more financial struggles than before, so returning dogs will be a heavy burden to carry for them. If you had any reasons not to get a dog before covid happened, please remember those reasons will still persist after covid!
Also PLEASE DON‘T buy dogs on the internet! These dogs are bred under worst conditions and often suffer from severe illness. A lot of them die after few months. Don‘t support this!!

Google elgooG I personally wouldn’t recommend getting one. They’re severely genetically deformed and generally have terrible temperaments, but if you insist on buying one, go right ahead. Just be prepared.

If you want a good mixed breed dog, go to the pound or your local rescue, they have plenty of very good dogs there. Many mixed breeds. You will be saving a life and you don’t have to pay a bundle.
I recently rescued a pitbull/Australian cattle dog mix, very cute, very sweet.
Wow that must be a very interesting look..I had a Pitbull/Walker hound many years ago, he was a rescue. He was very loving and extremely protective. He also was a fantastic watch dog, untrained...Oh forgot to mention the strength of this breed was insane ;)

SunnySide Up I have a staffordshire/ lab terrier that we got from a breeder, I was sickened by the condition we got her in, she was covered in her mothers after birth stuff and her own pee. We also believe she was hit on the face bc she is aggressive when you try to pet her face, she’s now almost 4 months, and she’s getting better, but sometimes, you could also be saving a life by buying a puppy from a breeder, like my puppy. 🙂

Yep! We adopted a shelter pup last year and he is perfect for our family! We needed a breed that wouldnt chase farm animals since we live on a farm. Tesla is a lab mix (probably with Pitt bull bc almost all the dogs at our local shelter are Pitt mixes). He LOVES running through the pastures and playing in the creek and doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body!😁💖🐶

Please consider a rescue dog or adopt from a dog shelter. They deserve and will give lots of love!
Not always and adopting a dog also costs alot of money and it isnt always a viable option for some. They really make you jump through hoops to adopt. And deny ppl based on myriads of ridiculous reasons forcing those animals to stay in shelters to end up euthanized. I think shelter pets would have alot more loving homes if they didnt make it so hard in the name of a "forever" home. I have a child and they wouldnt dare let me adopt untill my child was 8. With shelter pets you're not exactly sure what ur gonna get and what temperaments to expect. Raising a puppy is something that people have a right to do and shouldnt be shamed for it because they didnt or were not allowed to rescue.
Kiamolee it’s important to realize most humane societies and shelters don’t make it that hard to adopt, i’m sorry you had a negative experience but that’s not really he experience of most. there’s pros to adopting and buying from a good, reputable breeder. however in my personal opinion breeders shouldn’t be crossbreeding to make hybrids and should focus on healthy lines instead of the “perfect aesthetic” for the breed (i.e. pugs with perfect coils and smooshed faces). i have adopted both of my dogs and paid $100 for a two month old puppy, no strings attached - it’s all about where you go. :)

I know I'm probably late... But They probably do it like you would a human and instead of breeding the two they take the sperm of a male Pomeranian and then place them inside a female husky
The male is a Pomeranian and the female is the husky that’s because if the Pom is a girl the babies might be too big and you might have to get an emergency c-section
If the male is the small breed they can still mate with the female if she's laying down. There was a story here in the UK of a westie getting his female, rottweiler, housemate pregnant. The owners didn't think he could mate with her she never got them done 🤦♀️

I would offer that it's Dach, like Bach, with the 'ch' produced by air flow over the raised back of the tongue where your wisdom teeth appear while keeping the tip of your tongue right behind your bottom front teeth.
Step two involves adding an 's' sound.
Step three is saying the word 'hund' (dog).
The difficulty lies in the enunciation of the 'ch' and the 's' and it's acceptable to pronounce the two as 'cks' making the 'k' sound as soft as you are able to.

I have a rottsky and i also got him from the pound when he was a puppy and he was super friendly but right when his balls dropped he turned aggressive and he's very possessive of me and wont allow anything male anywhere near me
I've owned a variety of different dog breeds all my life, but recently discovered the best of the best. We paid top dollar to a breeder who sold me a Toy Yorkie who wasn't supposed to get over 7 lbs. Unfortunately, it turns out that the Breeder has a reputation of being a liar.... what we bought was a Dorkie, a mix between a Yorkie and a Dachshund, so said the Vet. She now weighs 20 lbs. Not what I needed as a companion, but... we fell in love with her!!! VERY intelligent, energetic, playful, protective, loving, and a lap dog! She is so gentle with children it's beautiful. My little Dorkie even gives soft, long, gentle Hugs! She doesn't shed, thank goodness. One night someone broke into my home at 2:05 am. She viscously chased them out. Since then she will not let a male Adult stranger into my home or yard unless I tell her it's ok. I've been very ill for a while. She taught herself to bring me the mail after the Mailman dropped it through the slot in the door. When we get packages, she will drag the box into the house and up to my bed. If I drop my phone or the TV remote she picks it up and brings it to me. She taught herself how to do all these things! She loves to please! Stays right by me, as if I taught her to heal. Waits for permission to go out the doggie door in the mornings.. and is so smart it blows me away. She's a doll and I'd recommend this breed, the Dorkie, to anyone who wants the most loving and intelligent dog breed there is.
Marcy Carson - Sounds like you won the "Fantastic Dog Lottery"! It's funny how sometimes "mistakes" have a way of working out for the best! I doubt a purebred Yorkie would do all the things you've listed, and am happy you and your Little Helper have each other. Thank you. You're right, though I wanted a Yorkie, I won the fantastic dog Lottery! I've never had such an intelligent and helpful dog companion in my life. The down side of my little jewel is that her ancestry blend makes her very instinctual, both the Dachshund and Yorkie were bred to be mousers, ratters ... she loves to hunt mice and squirrels, opossums, raccoons, any mammal. Along the back side of her fangs is a ridge like a razor blade...I've never had a dog with teeth like hers. Though we live in town we have an extremely large back yard that backs up to a forest. She's killed opossums, racoons in the middle of the night and of course, I wake up to her kill because she wants to show it off by bringing it into the house . We built a studio in the back part of the yard and had lumber left over. She smelled a mouse in the lumber stack and drug the stack down completely to find the mouse and that was back when she weighed less than 15 lbs! She smelled a mouse under our house siding and started ripping the siding off our house trying to get to it. When her instinct kicks in... it's hard to get her back to herself... she gets into a one track mind thing that could be frightening if she were a bigger dog. Other than this... she really is the most intelligent dog I've ever known. She can figure out anything! Smarter than most children under 10!! Maybe she's much more intelligent than I'm aware of. But, Yes... I feel so blessed to share life with this jewel.

Her name is Pandora, after Pandora's box. As the story of Pandora's box goes, it's beautiful beyond words, you just know when you open it that it will be filled with great treasure. In the story there is a very high chance that when the box is opened out will pour an apocalypse of chaos, disease and destruction, but... once in a while, fate rewards the worthy with the beautiful surprise of exactly what they need. This is all very much like my little Dorkie. Like Pandora's box, our Dorkie is not what we expected......we bought a Yorkshire Terrier because I needed a little companion, but our little Pandora turned out to be a Dachshund Yorkshire mix, the same size as a regular Dachshund... who is more than a companion, more than just a member of our family... she's just amazing in every way. When we opened Pandora's box... within it there was a rare and precious jewel! We were lucky, and we must have been deemed worthy! I'm so grateful!
So, this is why we call her Pandora! Thank you for asking!

My favorite breed of dogs are the ones that nobody wants. The shelters are so full of homeless dogs that it makes me sad to think of buying a “designer” dog instead of rescuing one in need. Shelter dogs and rescues make the best additions to any family! I only have 2 fur babies but trust me, if I could, I would totally be the crazy dog lady!!!

The health issues are worse with purebred dogs and if both parents of these designer dogs are purebred then the health risks have potential to be worse. Especially if both parents carry the dominant gene. But no one thinks to look into that they just want a cute designer puppy.

@Kaitlyn Allen I actually read an article saying how at first people(for some odd reason) tried making the chihuahua the mom. The babies were too big so they tried a c-section and both the mom/pup would often die. Then they decided to use their brains and make the Great Dane the mom.

The proportions are so off that internally they don’t develop correctly.. they often die within a few months of life
Kaitlyn Allen that literally only makes it better because they won’t all die. However these pups are likely to have a miserable and painful life. Mixing a large and a small breed is not ethical at all. It’s just asking for a million health and development issues.

I was more confused when the reader kept saying the breeds where recognized by the AKC when they are not, where did they get this info from?! The Shetland was not even recognized until 1909 -1911. Plus when they were showing the cavachon the dog with the soccer ball is a shih tzu not a cavachon. This video is just a mess sadly

My shelter dogs were the best decision I’ve ever made! I’ve had one for 12 years and another for 7 and they have been the best dogs to my small children(4&7) and the younger child uses them as pillows and toys most of the time and we’ve never ever had any problem at all💚

I think it's crazy how now mutts are called designer breeds LOL. Used to be that your purebred was ruined forever if it got pregnant by a different breed of dog. But I did love my little Yorkie Shitz (Yorkshire terrier dad + Shih Tzu mom)

Exactly! Crosses are now called 'desired breeds' instead of what they really are... mutts. Nothing wrong with mutts, if that's what you prefer, but to call them designer dogs and charge thousands is criminal. Buyer beware, as in anything else in life. As for me, I'll stick to purchasing purebreds from reputable breeders. No, I won't 'adopt' or 'rescue' somebody else's problem dog. Ever.

Alotta people think they don't have nearby shelters... But if you research you can find them in almost every town. If not there are online based fosters and rescues that will sometimes arrange travel up to fifty miles for the right owner for a pet who needs a forever home

You'll likely have to travel for a breeder too so that's a dumb excuse. Anyway if you're looking for a MIXED BREED, like what this video has, don't go through a breeder and support the breeding of designer dogs, go through a rescue.
Caitlyn R Nearest rescue to me that currently has dogs is an 8 hour drive. And all their dogs are seniors with or dogs with severe issues. I support adopt don’t shop but that isn’t always possible in other countries (the states always seems to have dogs everywhere). My last dog was a “backyard bred” dog, but the people who had him treat their animals very well and only breed every couple years. I would get another dog from a similar situation in a heart beat.
Why didn’t you mention any of the health issues that these dogs come with. Especially rotties and Shepherds. They have a lot of leg problems and rotties can get bad breathing problems sometimes. Also maybe don’t get a Pug X Dachshund because dachshund get leg problems and pugs get breathing problems. Have fun looking after that ball of medical problems.

Well if you get a dog with a lot of medical problems, it encourages the breeders or whoever you got the pup from to breed more dogs like that and soon you’ll have a whole new breed of medical problems. Also, if you do get a dog with several or maybe only one medical problem, you will have to pay for all the surgery and/or medical treatment and medicine, I hope I didn’t offend you! EXACTLY! These are all just mutts with fancy names. We have an English Pointer and GBGV mix, but we do jokingly call her a Bearded English Pointer. She is still a mutt. Do you realize people are paying thousands of dollars for these designer dogs?!

I’m not saying full bred or mutts are better, but the generalization you made is technically not correct. All my babies have been mutts but I think it’s right to acknowledge both.

It's sad that I've watched quite a few videos, even TV programs about dog breeds (I've always been obsessed with dogs) and I could not tell you how many times a cavalier King Charles has been used instead of a cocker spaniel, English or American, when they are describing a cocker 🤦♀️

A cross breed I didn't see on the list, and one I actually own, is a Chiweenie. (A cross breed between a Dachshund and a Chihuahua.)
In my case, not only are they small and overwhelmingly adorable, but they are no less short of energy and can be very loyal. Mine always looks forward to seeing me and spending time with me and my grandparents, and ALWAYS wants pick-me-ups! Not sure if they are fairly common or part of a minority, so I thought I'd throw this out there.

Used to be if your dog got knocked-up by another kind of dog, you called them mutts and tried to give them away outside the supermarket. Now you just awkwardly cram the name of the breeds together into something ridiculous sounding and charge $1000.

The definition of mutt is a dog of unknown ancestry. New breeds have to start somewhere. All recognized breeds were once designer dogs being bred for particular traits.

The AKC does not recognize the Aussiepom, nor the Pembroke Sheltie. However, you can register mixed breed dogs with the AKC as a Canine Partner. This video says the Daug has certain features, but that cannot be guaranteed. With mixed breeds, siblings from the same litter can look very different, just a children from the same parents. Be amazed. I am, at all the nonsense in this video.

I would never register any breed with the KC of any country,it's the beginning of the end for any breed as soon as it's classed as pedigree.
This was more annoying when they kept saying this when clearly they are not. I am always amazed at the odd mixes I see and honestly how clueless people can be. Had a lady ask me out of the blue at my job why the golden doodle is not a registered breed and it turned into a great conversation. Then had a women dead set in believing this puppy she got will never be over 20 lbs, its a mix of a toy poodle and a Bernese mountain dog. I was trying to be nice and just explaining if that is true half and half that dog could be larger.

Sorry, none of those mixes are recognized by the American Kennel Club. You can also find, in about half the cases, that there is a purebred with the same qualities. For example, the Standard Poodle is the same size as a labradoodle, and has the famous Poodle coat. (They also retrieve.) And if you want an elegant dog that looks like a Greyhound, but with a bit more hair, there is the Saluki. If you want a giant edition, check out the Borzoi, AKA Russian Boarhound. Less elegant but still all dog, are the Irish Wolfhound and Scottish Deerhound.
I could go on forever.
But mixes are so fun! You never know what breeds are in your dog until you DNA test them! And they're generally healthier then purebred dogs.

If you want a labradoodle I always recommend a curly coated retriever. There really is no need for cross bred dogs when there is a large variety of established breeds. If you want an active dog check out the working group, you want a tall dog check out a wolfhound, you want whose 10 inches at the wither and is x, y and z, there's a tonne of options.

@mimi love there are also the Irish Water Spaniel, Portuguese Water Dog and Lagotto Romagnolo to name a few. I only suggested curly coated retrievers since my family owns a well bred one. I believe it would be of benefit to the prospective buyers who are inquiring into purchasing a doodle on some other designer mutt to look at one of those breeds. Curlys are just my go to suggestion
