Yes! So glad to see some KSE on this channel. Just a little background. The vocalist in this video is Jesse Leach. He was the original vocalist for the band from '99-2002. He left in 2002 due to issues with depression and was replaced by another amazing vocalist named Howard Jones from 2002-2012. Jones then left the band in 2012 because of issues managing his diabetes while constantly being on tour as well as some mental health struggles. Jesse Leach then came back and has been the vocalist again since then. Jones is still on good terms with the band and he did guest vocals along with Leach on a song called "The Signal Fire" that's well worth a listen. He's also in a band called "Light the Torch" that has toured with KSE, and has a side project called SION with TH-camr Jared Dines.
Backing vocals in KSE are lead guitarist Adam Dutkiewitcz who also has produced all but one of their albums as well as albums for several other metal bands.
During Jesse's absence he had a band named Seemless. They opened for my band at the time at a day long rock show here in central NY. Got to spend some time with him afterwards, talked for quite a while. Super cool guy who is really serious about his music.
@@Nothing-zw3yd This is the good part of the internet. A dude who knows the dude in the video being reacted to...what are the chances? Very cool. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the backstory. I've only heard a few KSE songs...they seem to have such positive messages...hopeful messages. I like that.
@@terric703 I won't say I know him, just was fortunate enough to briefly share a stage and hang out for a bit. I'll say this, he's one of the LOUDEST singers I've heard live. It wasn't a big venue, and when he hit one of his growls in that room, it startled me. lol
@@terric703 I've been a fan from the beginning. Their early stuff is amazing.
Their 2002 album 'Alive or Just Breathing' is really heavy and the harsh vocals so intense - I too was drawn to their sound and amazed someone could sing like that. Cheers!
That album was incredible when it first came out, I'd never heard anything like it before. Jesse's vocals on that one are top shelf (even though I've heard he hadn't yet learned how to properly support his voice at the time).
The Whole "Alive or Just Breathing" album will be great to Analyze.
One of my favorite album
KSE "End of Heartache" from the Set This World Ablaze
Yay, sitting at the side of a fishing lake on a cold windy day in the Champagne region of France 🇫🇷 . Watching this classy lady lifts the spirits😀. Keep up the good work from a UK 🇬🇧 fan 😊
I have tickets to see Iron Maiden in Sept in Adelaide, Australia and Killswitch Engage are opening. Can’t wait to see them for the first time.
You lucky lucky man
You so gotta react to "The Signal Fire" it's right up there with their best..
I second this. Signal fire has both their singers. (Jesse left, got replaced by Howard, then Jesse came back). I think Howard has more power to his voice. That song is a nice comparison for their voices.
Im constantly baffled how so many people have never heard of this band! 🤘These guys are the goats of metalcore. They never put out a bad song, much less, a bad album.
Watching you analyse metal bands I've loved growing up makes me realise I've taken them for granted lately. I feel like you taught me how to listen to music again. Thank you so much ❤
There's always a debate of Howard and Jesse but I'm a Jesse fan (music was heavier with him IMO) but I do love me some Howard too. Definitely recommend some KSE with both singers. My Last Serenade (jesse) Holy Diver (Howard), Rose of Sharyn (Howard), I am Broken too (jesse) The Signal Fire (both!!) and lastly should check out Jesse and Adam D's band Times of Grace as they are amazing!
Thank You Bethany!
I love how much You enjoy this song!
Greetings from Hungary!
:)
Killswitch definitely OG’s of metalcore
Straight banger after banger
Nearly everything off "alive or just breathing" is amazing, but the title track takes the cake
I am 60 years old and my adult boys put me onto killswitch. Amazing vocals, brilliant song. Love your work Beth❤
I think Amorphis has a wonderful mix of great harsh and clean vocals, Tommy has an amazng voice.
Orphaned Land also does this very well, in a very different Middle-Eastern metal setting
You still really need to check out Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge. Especially the performance of Words Darker than their Wings LIVE with the Parallax Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall
I've loved this band since inception and your reaction made me tear up. love it!
haha, that look was priceless ❤
killswitch has amazing choruses that made me cry bunch of times.. you have to check them out more!
Love the content, some of the best reaction videos I've ever seen. "Wrong Side of Heaven" was raw and emotional, as a 5 Finger fan and Army vet, thank you for giving the song the justice it deserved. I'd like to make a request because I'm curious your take on the Shaboozy song " A Bar Song (Tipsy)" I'm a Country and Rock fanboy first but I do enjoy OLD HIP HOP, and this song to me could be the closest bridge between the two genres of music I have seen yet!
KSE are THE quintessential band that defines the "Metalcore" sub-genre.
9:36 That's Adam D going "demon time" with his vocals. Fun Fact: Adam D started out as their drummer back in `99 and switched to guitar in '02. Insane to think that today he is one of the most influential metal guitarists in the world. On top being one of the coolest and silly dudes ever.
and he won the showcase on Price is Right! lol
He also delivers live amazingly
Jesse Leach is one of my favorite vocalists. He's only gotten better over the years.
Try “Always” or “I am Broken Too” to really see Jesse’s range. His voice has such power and emotion to it. He’s a national treasure.
The end of heartache live with Howard Jones on vocals, and definitely do the signal fire with both singers together.
Rose of Sharyn next 🤘
my fave song for sure
Late message, but wanted to stop a thanks here. This song and album got me through the darkest point of my life, 8 years ago. So glad Jessie's energy returned, he's such a genuine soul. Cheers for the great choice and reaction!
I'm impressed with any young woman who appreciates harsh music. I grew up in a time when female peers didn't understand. They thought music had to be nice, and us boys who enjoyed harsh music were immature ... or even moronic. The irony is that metal addressed deep issues, well beyond the shallow topics of most pop music. You should react to Slayer, the ultimate harsh and deep band. But you should also do Opeth. Akerfeldt's harsh vocals are gold standard.
Jesse sings with passion and emotion. Always has, He will be my favorite vocalist until the day I die
Nice to see Killswitch Engage on the channel. It’s probably worth looking at an older song with Howard Jones on vocals. I’d recommend “Rose of Sharyn”.
I second that...
This band has had many singers. Definitely keep doing a deep dive.
Check out their song End Of Heartache. The live version is dope AF
Edit: this is my first time hearing this song and I love it! I love this band and its many renditions. They never cease to amaze me
They have had 2 singers.
They've had 2 singers but combined for 3 times (1st vocalist is also 3rd/this vocalist).
I love killswitch 🤘🏼
You need to hear some Howard Jones era!!!!
Another Canada band for you… Alexisonfire
Song;
This could be anywhere in the world
One of my favorite Killswitch songs! I feel Jesse is one of modern metals best vocalists.
Thank you ❤
more KSE is needed. this fire, the end of heartache, my curse, always, holy diver cover, rose of Sharyn, my last serenade, the arms of sorrow, fixation of the darkness
I"ve just discovered your channel and am thoroughly enjoying your critiques....BTW...you're beautiful!!! ROCK ON! Pete.
Adam D is singing the clean harmonies and the super deep gutterals. Hes a monster on guitar and vocals.
And drums too on their first 2 albums.
"My Last Serenade" would of been a better starter song from KSE
“Signal Fire” is great for a metal duet and has both of their vocalists. I’m sure you see the debate about the two in the comments but they are both amazing and have kept this band up with the best for over 20 years. My favorite thing about them is their uplifting and humanity-focused message.
WOW - Great review of a great performance. - - I don't know if you ever did a review of Mean Mary - but I wish you would do a review of Mean Mary's song: "Brand New Day" Mean Mary is such an amazing artist!
AWESOME reaction!!! may i recommend for your next KSE song to do a Howard Jones 1(preferably The End of Heartache) ,i think you will find him to be equally as impressive as Jesse! I personally love both & dont think i could pick one over the other!
Howard is my favorite! Rose of Sharyn. This guy "Always".
"Having the 2 combined..."
Queue up band Ne Obliviscarus song And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope LIVE IN DENVER video.
My favorite reaction video period!! 🤘🤘❤️ KSE!
song When darkness falls from their Set this world ablaze concert
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 signal fire is a must from them!!!!!!!
Cool reaction! Jesse is a great vocalist but IMO Howard Jones with KSE is next level. Nothing against Jesse but for me with Howard you can feel it in your soul! He is a beast. One of my all time fav vocalists. They made metalcore huge. I would love to see your reaction with KSE with Howard. I think you might like them at least as much if not more. Check out My Curse, The End of Heartache, The Arm of Sorrow, Rose of Sharyn, Always and they cover Holy Diver. The Signal Fire has both vocalists in it. Keep up the great videos. You do a great job.
If you like the mix of harsh and clean vocals check out Killswitch Engage songs End of Heartache, Rose of Sharyn, and My Last Serenade.
Love that you got to KSE! Another amazing metalcore band that work this contrast brilliantly. Cannibal, Quake or Choke would be good tracks to look at.
So glad you reacted to Killswitch!! You should react to Invent Animate - Shade Astray, would love to hear your comments on that absolute banger of a band. Keep up your good work ❤
I'm actually a fan of their other singer, Howard Jones. The band peaked in popularity under his 10 years and he's considered the greatest metalcore vocalist period. Check out The End of Heart Ache Live
you are just amazing girl.
You should definitely do one with Howard as well. The Signal Fire features both singers and is definitely worth a listen.
Jones will always be KSE to me.
Yay KSE!!! Keep exploring! It only gets better
I've watched a few documentaries on KSE and they pretty much need a babysitter 🤣
Adam D needs full-time care🤣😂🤘
You ought to listen to some Opeth, Mikael’s voice is incredible.
Great you did killswitch, you have to do a Howard song my personal fave is "when darkness falls" (do the studio version) and then you have to do "signal fire" as it has both vocalists in the same track!
A Day to Remember AND The Amity Affliction HAVE TO BE NEXT
Definitely need to check them out with Howard
Hyped to see KSE on your channel! I do agree with others and think you should really check out some of the songs with Howard Jones on vocals, I think you’d love it
Metal heads call this sing/scream dichotomy "good cop/bad cop"
They're very integrative, coming from the hardcore scene but there's a ton of classic metal, power metal, extreme metal, punk and so on. Also their lead guitarist is a phenomenal song writer. Instead of the predictable "here's the break down part" the groove and breakdowns are integrated into the song itself.
Also so many people have a bias towards or against the two singers but they're both great in their own ways
my last serenade, life to lifeless, fixation on the darkness :D the signal fire, my curse, rose of sharyn, arms of sorrow, is good.
Check out the band called Lamb of god with their song "Overlord"
Killswitch has been one of my faves for years. They had at least 2 singers but I believe thier original singer is this current singer. Inbetween was a black singer that IMO was one of the best in metal. Sorry I don't know names while being a fan for decades but eh... I'm old... I forget stuff... yeah, that's it.
Lots of stops .love you girl... subscribed.
Really great reaction to the vocal variety. Made me think of another band with great vocal contrast. Two vocalists in this band. Massive contrast that will blow your mind. And the music is on another level. Please check out the band, Ne Obliviscaris with the song And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope. Live in Denver Colorado. 2016
Thanks again for this great reaction and analysis.
Wish she could do a Primus tune!!
👏 👏 👏
You absolutely need to do Jared Leto doing his live acoustic version of his band's (Thirty Seconds to Mars) song The Kill, but it would be especially good seeing the reaction to the original after (provided you've never heard it)
On your own time, PLEASE watch when the guitarist won price is right. ITS EPIC. ALSO , Jesse has another project that I loved called The Empire Shall Fall with the album Awaken that has no skips..
If you're gonna be diving into KSE, you may want to check out some of the songs done with howard jones as vocalist. He is, in my opinion, one of the best in the world. personal favorite of mine.
Im getting the feeling that you like this type of music, give Atreyu a listen when you can.
Adam the guitarist does vocals as well.
Hello, thanks for your chanel, I love how you experience the music, how your joy can be seen in your eyes🤩🤩 And if you enjoyed this song by KSE then you really, like REALLY need to check out a band SCAR SYMMETRY, I recommends the official video to song Morphogenesis!!!
Please do the end of heartache live from 2004! Howard Jones is someone you have to check out! You'll love him!
Can you please analyze what Lalah Hathaway is doing in this song? The video is called Snarky Puppy feat. Lalah Hathaway - Something and the technique comes in around 5 minutes, but the whole thing is amazing. Is this a combination of vocal fold and glottis tension, stiffness, relaxation, mouth shape or all of them? How is she achieving two chords at once? It seems different than others' techniques. 😚
I like when the back up singers come in
Love your reactions. Can see you are really getting IN to every inch of a song. Can you maybe do a reaction to SEETHER please🙏🙏🙏Greetings from South Africa🇿🇦
Love killwitch engage, we saw the when Howard was the vocalist
Could you maybe look at in flames. Their song "stay with me" then perhaps hear them on other songs. I'm pretty sure you will be shocked xxx
You should watch Out Of Darkness' I Surrender. It's a guy singing a heavy metal version of Celine Dion
I would do Rose of Sharyn- best Killswitch song IMO
No no no. Forget you even heard this song and react to the song “The Arms of Sorrow” or even better yet “My Curse” from them and call THAT your first reaction to this band
I agree, this is not the song to first hear from KE. The Curse is their main hit imo, but Rose of Sharyn is easily my fave. I listen to that song at least a few times a month to this day
Definitely one of my favorite bands......check out "We Carry On"-the original audio track from their album "Incarnate" & "We Carry On-Recorded in Quarantine"-th-cam.com/video/YJcYjSry3Cs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ndfF3Zn395LpxuLI ....you can see how clear Jesse's vocals can be. Enjoy! Always love watching your reactions to my faves! HOWDY from South Texas!
I would love you to make an analysis on some new (extremely for me) talents such as Daedric!
Killswitch Engage is my 3rd fav band and seen them many times. Both singers are great but Howard the other singer is my fav. Please check out Imminence with song “Ghost” please
Do a “My Curse or Rose of Sharyn” from KSE. Just to compare…?
😍😊
You should react to the Bee Gees To Much Heaven such great vocals you will love it!
💖🔥🥰🔥💖
good reaction, I highly doubt you will read this comment but here it goes, this band has had 2 singers and personally I prefer the previous one, his name is "Howard Jones" and he was there from 2002 to 2012, I recommend you listen to this same song band called "the end of heartache", for me it is a masterpiece to listen to that song, Howard Jones' vocal range is incredible, you will delight in that song.
Gotta react to their stuff from 04-09 and as well as hate by design by them
if you haven’t already, i’d LOOOVE you to react to pierce the veil. bulls i’m the bronx or the boy who could fly would be great ^^
So, if you like mixed style vocals the best to do it, in my opinion is Alexis On Fire. Their 3 different vocalists bring very different styles to the table. Dallas Greene their clean vocalist went on to eclipse the band with his solo work named City and Colour. He is one of my favorite singers in his own right.
Alexisonfire th-cam.com/video/jxoL6LfURss/w-d-xo.htmlsi=omI6Lq0BW8C6wbcJ

Signal Fire...
You're welcome :)
Maybe “harshmony” should be a word.
you might not see this BUT i would suggest if you like a mixture of harsh and clean vox together in a Metal Core song please consider listening to Underoath - Thorn. it was very difficult choosing a first song from this band but i think this will suffice. Thank You.
