    Yes! So glad to see some KSE on this channel. Just a little background. The vocalist in this video is Jesse Leach. He was the original vocalist for the band from '99-2002. He left in 2002 due to issues with depression and was replaced by another amazing vocalist named Howard Jones from 2002-2012. Jones then left the band in 2012 because of issues managing his diabetes while constantly being on tour as well as some mental health struggles. Jesse Leach then came back and has been the vocalist again since then. Jones is still on good terms with the band and he did guest vocals along with Leach on a song called "The Signal Fire" that's well worth a listen. He's also in a band called "Light the Torch" that has toured with KSE, and has a side project called SION with TH-camr Jared Dines.
    Backing vocals in KSE are lead guitarist Adam Dutkiewitcz who also has produced all but one of their albums as well as albums for several other metal bands.

      During Jesse's absence he had a band named Seemless. They opened for my band at the time at a day long rock show here in central NY. Got to spend some time with him afterwards, talked for quite a while. Super cool guy who is really serious about his music.

    KSE are THE quintessential band that defines the "Metalcore" sub-genre.
    9:36 That's Adam D going "demon time" with his vocals. Fun Fact: Adam D started out as their drummer back in `99 and switched to guitar in '02. Insane to think that today he is one of the most influential metal guitarists in the world. On top being one of the coolest and silly dudes ever.

    • @HugoStiglitz88
      @HugoStiglitz88 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They're the 2nd metalcore band but definitely the one that brought it to the masses. Overcast beat them to it and pioneered the genre but they picked up where Overcast left off.
      The singer formed Shadows Fall, and the bass player joined Killswitch Engage
      Shadows Fall is another incredible 2000s metalcore band. I still think Stepping outside the circle is one of the greatest metal songs ever written. Also think that about To Ashes as well it's just a shame there's no recording of it with great production quality.

    • @HugoStiglitz88
      @HugoStiglitz88 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well he didn't even switch to guitar. He still played drums and guitar on their best album hands down, Alive or Just Breathing

    There's always a debate of Howard and Jesse but I'm a Jesse fan (music was heavier with him IMO) but I do love me some Howard too. Definitely recommend some KSE with both singers. My Last Serenade (jesse) Holy Diver (Howard), Rose of Sharyn (Howard), I am Broken too (jesse) The Signal Fire (both!!) and lastly should check out Jesse and Adam D's band Times of Grace as they are amazing!

    • @HugoStiglitz88
      @HugoStiglitz88 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's funny because Howard actually preferred doing heavier music but when they were with him they definitely went softer. I think that's part of why he quit because when I met him he seemed pretty dissatisfied with their direction.
      But I also vastly prefer Jesse. Not only does he fit the band better IMO, I just prefer his style. Like the melodies he chooses, the way he delivers his choruses, and his screams are false chord screams while Howards are fry screams. Plus the bluesy style Jesse started adopting when he joined Seemless and kept using it when he did The Empire Shall Fall who were amazing and kind like prog metalcore (check out the First Redemption, As the City Sleeps, or We The People)
      Howard is definitely the more "professional" singer, and would be a lot better at certain genres but I just prefer Jesse overall
      Also I don't pay attention to lyrics much but from what I know, i prefer Jesse's lyrics. His are a lot deeper and not always obvious while Howard's are a bit more upfront and I've kind of always preferred the former approach even if it means I have no idea what the song is about lol

      Yea but Take This Oath has both singers have both singers and its a million times better than signal fire.
      Plus, even better than that, the End of Heartache version of Irreversal has both of them singing too and that's easily top 5 of their best songs though the original version is definitely better. They cut out a part of the song, and also the breakdown is toned down too much while on the self titled album it was about as epic as anything I've ever heard

    I'm impressed with any young woman who appreciates harsh music. I grew up in a time when female peers didn't understand. They thought music had to be nice, and us boys who enjoyed harsh music were immature ... or even moronic. The irony is that metal addressed deep issues, well beyond the shallow topics of most pop music. You should react to Slayer, the ultimate harsh and deep band. But you should also do Opeth. Akerfeldt's harsh vocals are gold standard.

    more KSE is needed. this fire, the end of heartache, my curse, always, holy diver cover, rose of Sharyn, my last serenade, the arms of sorrow, fixation of the darkness

    @8:32 I guess the old adage is true, if you can sing well you can scream well. Jesse’s singing voice is 1000% better than it was in the early days and his harsh vocals are also better now.

    Love that you got to KSE! Another amazing metalcore band that work this contrast brilliantly. Cannibal, Quake or Choke would be good tracks to look at.

    Adam D needs full-time care🤣😂🤘

    I feel like this music video is a little more meaningful if you know the context: it was their first single with Jesse back in the band after being gone for ten years.
    For this channel, I'd suggest checking out both Jesse and Howard KsE songs. They're both incredible vocalists that each lends their unique style to the band. Always, The End of Heartache, The Element of One, The Arms of Sorrow, My Last Serenade, My Curse, Irreversal, Rose of Sharyn all have notable vocal performances (tho honestly I could basically list their whole discography as examples). And if you like either/both singers, they also have other bands worth a listen: Jesse with Times of Grace and The Empire Shall Fall, and Howard with Light the Torch and SION.

    Yay! So happy to hear you react to another of my favourite bands... I love their combination of harsh and clean vocals..
    You should check out some of their earlier work too... especially "The End of Heartache" or "Hope is..." former singer Howard Jones had an amazing voice as well.

    Metal heads call this sing/scream dichotomy "good cop/bad cop"
    They're very integrative, coming from the hardcore scene but there's a ton of classic metal, power metal, extreme metal, punk and so on. Also their lead guitarist is a phenomenal song writer. Instead of the predictable "here's the break down part" the groove and breakdowns are integrated into the song itself.
    Also so many people have a bias towards or against the two singers but they're both great in their own ways

    Really great reaction to the vocal variety. Made me think of another band with great vocal contrast. Two vocalists in this band. Massive contrast that will blow your mind. And the music is on another level. Please check out the band, Ne Obliviscaris with the song And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope. Live in Denver Colorado. 2016
    Thanks again for this great reaction and analysis.

    Love the content, some of the best reaction videos I've ever seen. "Wrong Side of Heaven" was raw and emotional, as a 5 Finger fan and Army vet, thank you for giving the song the justice it deserved. I'd like to make a request because I'm curious your take on the Shaboozy song " A Bar Song (Tipsy)" I'm a Country and Rock fanboy first but I do enjoy OLD HIP HOP, and this song to me could be the closest bridge between the two genres of music I have seen yet!

    I know it'll probably be years until you get to it but the best two bands in this scene right now are Invent Animate and Imminence.
    Hopefully you get around to them sooner or later they're at the top of the genre.

    Great you did killswitch, you have to do a Howard song my personal fave is "when darkness falls" (do the studio version) and then you have to do "signal fire" as it has both vocalists in the same track!

    Killswitch has been one of my faves for years. They had at least 2 singers but I believe thier original singer is this current singer. Inbetween was a black singer that IMO was one of the best in metal. Sorry I don't know names while being a fan for decades but eh... I'm old... I forget stuff... yeah, that's it.

    Hi Beth, it would be great if you could check out Zeal and Ardor sometime. I think you'll find it interesting both vocally and sonically. They've got a unique sound with such diverse mixes, and I feel like that's where the beauty of the band really lies. I really value your channel! 🧡
