    I passed HSK 4 recently. Didn't study at all and had a fever while taking the test 😂. I averaged around 80. Just wanted to see my Chinese "standard" level. Btw, your channel is probably the best Chinese learning channel on TH-cam. You speak in a very clear and helpful way. I'm in China so I have the environment to learn it easily, but for everyone else who isn't in China, this channel is a very good place to learn.

    My goal is comprehension. Understanding the gist of any conversation and not necessarily every word is a big step for me. It's also the best way imo to attack the comprehension struggle. As they say- don't let perfect get in the way of good.

    This is a really interesting video thank you! It made me realize that most of the mistakes I make in Chinese come from not practicing enough real life chinese, I got most of the vocabulary and listening comprehension right, but the part about translating from english to chinese I got all wrong hahaha :') Studying a language when you don't live in an environment where you're exposed to it daily can be difficult, I need to make more chinese / chinese-speaking friends!
    Happy new year, can't wait for your next videos!

    Oh mine, I better study hard next year! :D Loved the first part, one of the reasons why I'm so hooked to learning Chinese is because it's like a puzzle and it's so much fun figuring out new words from the combination of characters like here!

  • @slamdunk406
    @slamdunk406 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just in terms of my ability to have conversations with people, I'm around an HSK 3-4 level. My ability to talk to people in Chinese has improved a lot. However, there were some of the HSK 1-2 words I wasn't able to figure out in full (dentist was easy). And then the HSK1-2 conversation was super easy and there were certain aspects of all levels that I got pretty easily.
    So, I think was a reminder that I need to be vigilant in looking up words and phrases even if I don't actively use them much in my Chinese conversation. Like I've never had a Chinese conversation about going to a gym, so I have never felt the need to look it up. But words like that are ones I need to know and look up. Really appreciate you taking the time to do this. Keep up the great work with your content!

    I find that if a Japanese student and an ABC (American born Chinese) person were to learn mandarin Chinese, both will reach HSK4 at roughly the same time. The Chinese American will have the head start with respects to speaking and tones while the Japanese student will lag big time with spoken Chinese but have an enormous leg up when it comes to learning how to write Chinese. Both will struggle differently but will come together at HSK4

    Well, that went exactly how I thought. lol. I'm at HSK 1-2 (after years of inconsistent study)
    I understood the entire conversation at the level without any issue, however, I didn't get any questions in the fanyi section correct and I could only understand some of the characters in the vocabulary section. (like, I could read the word for dentist and knew it had something to do with teeth).
    Edit: Looks like I understand some at the upper HSK levels as well.
