For any moms out there on an ultra tight budget, just know that you can go SO minimal if you want, and that you can wait until after the baby comes to figure out what you want.
Diaper bag- you can use a tote or regular backpack
Changing table- you can change them on the bed, or you can use an attachment that comes with most pack n plays.
Crib- you can use a pack n play and put it next to your bed as your substitute bassinet.
Onsies- just get sleepers with double zippers for 0-3 unless it's summer then add some regular sleeveless onsies. Jammies 24/7 for the first 3 months 😂
Personally I liked a portable floor bassinet more than the lounger, safer for them to sleep in and easy to bring to other people's houses for naps. You don't have to buy any swings, bouncers, ect.
Mobile- not super relevant until their eyesight gets stronger and honestly you can jerry rig one with index cards and household stuff.
I know for me money was a real issue so i just want to share the assurance it's OKAY to keep things ultra simple.

      Totally agree.
I always joke that capitalism loves pregnant ladies. A lot of things here are nice to have, but not really needed. It’s fine to get the extras but I personally wouldn’t call this list minimal since it has a lot of luxuries.
The double zip sleepers are totally the way to go. Best advice ever. My baby hardly wore anything but that until she was six months. It made life so much easier.

So true! I have a one month old and hes slept a whole two nights in the bassinet and now we’re bed sharing (I thing I swore I wouldn’t do) and he has been wearing the same 5 zippered PJs all month. Our changing tables are a dresser and the dinning room table. 😂

Things have changed so much since I had my kids. We didn't have all these bells and whistles. No sound machine or monitors. And we just used a receiving blanket to swaddle our babies. Our babies went straight to a crib. No changing tables. Or diaper genie. We laid a soft towel in our tub. Laid the baby down, ran a tiny bit of water, then bathed the baby. We used our regular towels and wash rags. Or we did an old fashioned kitchen sink bath. Lol. Our babies survived just fine. We boiled glass bottles in a pot on the stove. No big ticket items. Usually our cribs were passed down. Or thrifted. All these new conveniences are great. But, 95% are definitely not necessary. New mothers have plenty of time to feel things out and get anything they may need. A newborn needs very few things. I couldn't tell you how many young Mom's I know tell me they didn't use half the items they received or bought. So much wasted money. I'd suggest not falling into social media pushing all these expensive items. New or secondhand. You just don't need them. My opinion. Blessings to you and your family.

Hi Ashlyn! Love the choices you've made for Oliver 🩵 The one suggestion I would offer is that babies need bright sharp colors to stimulate brain function. In the first few months they have a bit of difficulty distinguishing muted colors. Please add more black & white, and bold primary colors for his play items and art. 🎨 (52yo old mom who raised my own child, several nieces and nephews, and babysat 6mo + from middle school until I had my own at 22)

Congratulations on your new baby boy! I would definitely suggest getting a lot more of your regular size crib sheet more of those. As a baby gets older, they throw up in the middle of the night, or have a big blowout. My suggestion is have way more crib sheets than you think you will need.🩵

You have such beautiful design choices. I love the colours and really love the clot and dresser.
I am a granny so my advice may not be current, but I think having about 4 cot sheets is good. We know there’s one in the crib and one in the wash…. But babies can mess up a sheet with one exploding diaper or good puke. Babies can also get sick with gastro etc, it’s nice to have a couple of spare sheets just in case xx

I remember seeing pictures how new parents did minimalism back in the 20th century compared to today's product-palooza of baby items. Baby slept in a dresser drawer that was removed and a blanket to soften the bottom. No bassinet was needed. No such thing as multiple sleeping apparatuses, no pack 'n play, no electronic bouncy platform or special multiple pads for the floor. 1 stroller. Toys were minimal in quantity, no more than 1 or 2 stuffed animals, books were borrowed from the library on an as-needed basis. Wardrobe was no more than 8 outfits at a time, mostly sleepers. Cloth diapers were used for burp cloths, as well as a bib and of course for diapering baby. Simple bath items, no special towels, 2 blankets. 1/4 or less the amount of items most parents amass now. Amazing how mankind survived and thrived all those decades ago. :)

I’m not against second hand for babies, especially clothing that barely get used before they’re too small… but I would not buy a used mattress. Would you, an adult, buy someone’s old mattress? (Same with shoes.)

As a breastfeeding mom, I would definitely suggest having silverets for healing. They saved me so much in those first few weeks. Most things are easy to get quickly if you need them down the road so I wouldn't stress, but it's definitely good to have the essentials and things you will want right after birth.

Since you haven’t bought one yet, consider NOT buying a high chair. Instead, bet one that straps to a chair and has a tray with a tray liner. We spent $$$ for a high chair that ended up taking up lots of room. The chair attaching ones are cheap, clean soooo easy, and take no floor space. When the girls got older, we stopped using the tray and it acted as a booster seat for at the table. LOVED IT.

My midwife recommended to have the smallest possible package of pre-mixes formula at home, mostly just for peace of mind. This helped me a lot, my baby only got a few drops of it, but those really helped cool him down when he was upset on day 3 when brestfeeding was stressful and so later just knowingnI have it made me more calm, so I can also recommend it.

Hi ashlynne- your little one has such caring parents, and the items are so nice. Just some ideas, I'm not in the USA, but what about toys from love Avery. I've seen videos where this brand is great quality, and they send toys for your child age. I think the age they go to is 2. Another idea is buying a variety of outfits in different sizes so as baby grows, there is some you have and just buy what you need. I'd love to see an update video ❤
