    Add flat washers, displaces pressure better, and prevents the nuts taking a bite of the roof panel. Good job!

    Great job. That insulation looks really interesting, much better than the solid foam as you have really good coverage with no gaps. I’m enjoying following the boat fit out.

    Great work as always, l could watch other people work all day. The Thinsulate looks like a great alternative to spray foam.

    Looking at the shape of the flue collar and the way they seem to be fitted on most boats would it have fitted better if the base were turned 90 degrees?

    Colin just come across your channel, found watching your skills fitting out your sail away really enjoyable, just a reminder don't forget the ballast to go under your floor as you continue, it may sound a stupid reminder but I've known a few who have forgotten lol myself included.

    Just a little tip Colin, if you use cutting fluid when drilling or jig sawing steel it cuts more quickly and cleanly and the drill bit or blade will last a lot longer

      I was going to ask, if the floor boards are sealed down, how to you adjust the ballast once you have all the tanks in and full, along with the dead weight of all the final fixings

    I was surprised to see you did not paint or treat the raw metal edges of the holes you cut for the flue. With all the rain and water issues contributing to rust down the road. It may not be an issue long term for your environment, but in my world, I never leave any uncoated bare steel metal anywhere due to long term corrosion issues. Because rust.

    Love the "Speedy Cam" footage, it is a great addition to your video. Does the Thinsulate act as a vapour barrier as well as insulation?

    Hi Colin, just a quickie question - did you use plywood for all of the battening? Loving the journey. Thanks.

    Never clear swarf with your fingers. Always use a brush and pan. Or expect to get some nasty cuts.

    Hi just a little tip I noticed your roof cross members are box section drill a hole in both ends and fill with spray foam this will stop condensation collecting and running down your side panels staining the wood

      louise ng Thinsulate would be the best name for the boat, it appears to be his favourite word 😂

    What a great series! One question though... What are you using for ballast as narrow boats don't have keels and they still need to be stabilised somewhat.

    • @ladygardener100
      @ladygardener100 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its usually bricks

    • @NeilBlenkiron

      I thought so. It's just I didn't see any in the bilge when he was fastening down the floor boards.

    I am really interested and motivated to follow this project and watched all the way through to the end. However much of it was difficult to follow either too dark or poor audio - or both. I will still persevere though 👍

  • @rassman48

    (I'm far from being an expert) but don't you need to be under those floorboards again later when you balance the boat?

    • @ladygardener100
      @ladygardener100 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a bit concerned here, you need to put ballast in before the launch ............. bricks lots of them.
      but the insulation is usually Celotex, with the vapour seal on the upper surface. Sticking the thinsulate on the flooring means the vapour seal is on the wong side . it might cause condensation.

    Hi.
    My chimney needs some attention the chimney collar which is cast its the standard flat one you get from a marina and the boat roof is curved this causes a space between the roof and the collar am looking to find someone to either make a new collar to fit the gap or make a skirt to go go round the collar please can you help can send pics if needed.
    Can you get an angled collar if not can you get one made out of steel with the extra bits added on I cant tell how angled your roof is is your collar angled or flat please

    • @ColinJaquesNarrowboatBuild
      @ColinJaquesNarrowboatBuild  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi with the collar I fitted I had to Grind out the under side of the collar to fit the curve of the roof .

    I thought your comment about steelworkers and woodworkers was no excuse for poor workmanship, this is not their first boat build.

    I hope that when you put your ceiling in that you don't do like another youtuber and start from one end with all the boards the same length. Yes, every board across the end was the same length, so they all ended in a line across the ceiling, and hung down slightly. The real kicker was he used tongue and groove boards. If he had staggered the lengths he would never have needed cross strips at the join lines. He was also tall and wanted as much clearance as he could get, he sure didn't think that one through.
