@@SarahSpacemanI love your “over explaining”. Be yourself. Don’t let others tell you how to share your craft. Imagine a person being entertained and or helped by someone but they tell the person who is entertaining or helping them, how to do it……wow. Be yourself, because as soon as you are trying to please others, it will no longer be fun to do.
I recently lost my granny this year too. I found the extra fabric she kept from my first cosplay in her craft room and now plan on making tiny fabric hearts to put into the lining of the tops of the rest of my craftsmanship cosplays I make.
Aww thats such a loving gesture, my heart goes out to you. I have a bag of my grandmothers scraps and im still trying to figure out something lovely like that to do with them.
Aww what a lovely idea, 💕!! so her heart will always lie beside yours as she supports you in your arts, creativity, expression of life and sharing your fun I’d love to borrow this idea if you don’t mind. I’ve lost Papa to cancer when he was 51 and I was 21. I would love to try this. He was a self-made successful business owner and govt. contractor. He really believes that no one should put limitations on what you’re capable of doing and he’s overcome so much in life and inspired SO many people, mentoring and flying around the world sharing his experiences and guidance at cons like TedTalks. So, I was thinking of inspirational things he said to me over the years, all the wisdom to guide me, they slip away into the wind of time and I don’t want to let go of them, like lost love letters from a father to daughter, blown into the breeze to be carried away. I’d like to make the heart a pocket and write one of his inspirational quotes to tuck inside the heart.
I too have lost my grandma however I am amazed by this person's will and winning also however unfortunately my family has been in a bad money situation, I lost most of my friends and my email, and besides a job I literally have no other motivation in the future
Would you mind if I steal this idea? Ng grandma loved hummingbirds and I lost her a few months ago and I'd like to sew little hummingbirds to costumes I make
"what is it the kids say? 'screaming, crying, throwing up'?" sarah I love you you are so funny and you have so much skill, the blouse came out perfectly
I lost my grandma back in 2014, but she loved sewing as much as I do--she was fabulous at it. I like to think that she would be happy to see me keeping sewing alive in my family. This cosplay is really inspiring me to make something super big and full of ruffles and bows and everything--very beautiful work!
I always wondered why my grandmother and dad were so happy I picked up sewing but after I met my husband I found out. He once attempted to mend a pair of black trousers with cherry red thread. That cord was so knotted and long the little shirt button he chose for the closure was hanging on for dear life 😂. He ended up stapling his pants at work. Your grandmas probably would be proud you can keep your clothes together and express yourself ❤
I love when you over explain stuff tbh since sometimes with other worklogs I don't understand what there trying to say but I almost always understand for you due to this.
I lost my granny in 2018. In my craft room - where I discovered you, watched this video, and worked on everything from my first historical projects to clothes for my niece she didn’t get to meet- is the sewing machine and unfinished projects she left. When she was sick she taught me knitting, now I’m teaching it, gifting items, and carrying on supplying the family with their favorite slipper. I’ve found it so hard to talk about losing her. I can completely relate to your loss and feelings of connection ❤ I’m watching this in 2024, it’s not the first video of yours I’ve watched. But I’m glad I found it today.
Gawd, this cosplay is turning out beyond beautful. If I hadn't been watching you make it with my own eyes I'd sooner believe you used witchcraft to force the costume into existence from the artwork. I'm so in love with all of the details you put into the sleeves it really paid off. I know for sure I would never have the patience for beading anything so I really admire all of the work you put into them. When you mentioned you were going to compete at Anime Matsuri I got so excited! I've been competing since I started cosplaying so to me they're one and the same. Do you think you would ever do a video about the ins and outs of competition? Like advice for prejudging, preparing for the competition beforehand and just general tips? That would be super neat.
Thank you so much! I do think I want to do a video like that eventually, Might not be until the start of next year though with everything I still have to finish for Miku, but I'll get to it eventually! Also, Holiday* Matsuri :)
the bit about your grandma hit really hard, three months ago yesterday i lost my dad suddenly, and my world is still settling. before he died, he had ordered and wrapped some christmas presents for us. he gave me a fashion sketchbook and fabric shears. before he died, i didn't really know what i wanted to do with my life, but i have now been looking into going into fashion design as a career. before, i was trying to figure out how to find a stable job while also doing what i love, and i've realized lifes just too short to not spend it living it to the fullest. i know that some things will always feel bittersweet, and i will likely never be able to enjoy the holiday season in the same way. so yeah, love your people, tell them you love them, and stay healthy
Pintucks are tricky, and you usually end up folding more fabric than you calculated (or I do). I prefer to do the pintucks on the roughly cut piece with extra space and then use the original pattern again (without the pintucks) to cut it to the right measurement ☺️ Your cosplay is looking amazing! Good luck with the competition
1) OH GOD I WANNA SEW ALL THE PETER PAN COLLARS NOW 2) *deep breath* Oh. My. GOD the BEADING ON THE SLEEEVEEEEEEEEEEEE 3) my gobbo brain saw the cuff ruffle and went "oooo u made a circle skirt for your wrist"😂
The precision required for sewing has always intimidated me so it’s very comforting to hear that it’s not your strong suit yet you’re still able to make amazing costumes! Great work and lovely video editing.
As someone who is mostly self taught at hand sewing and a beginner at machine sewing, the way you explain how you make pieces is very helpful! The cosplay turned out stunning, I can’t wait to see what comes next!
Protip I learned for pintucks while doing my own "fancy shirt": Use an (adjustable) blind hem foot! That way, you can't really 'wobble' the line as much and it comes out very clean! The adjustable foot makes it easier if you want to do different sizes of pintucks! Highly recommend it :)) (Rewatching the video for the 4 or 5th time already XD I really love seeing you make stuff and can't wait for more!)
I’m not sure how I found your channel. I don’t even sew! I don’t watch anime, read manga, or cosplay. I’m not even a gamer! But I like fashion and creations, so maybe that’s why I love this channel! Your enthusiasm, can-do spirit, willingness to admit mistakes and failures but then get right back on that horse is inspiring. And your creations are amazing. I don’t know the cosplay world at all and have no desire to join it, but I still appreciate your love of it and your talent, skills, and dedication! Looking forward to seeing more vids. I’m almost all caught up!
I ADORE THIS COSPLAY!!!! Its perfect, so don't call your thread work "messy". Trust me, *my* thread work is the definition of messy. Also, my heart goes out to you. I'm very sorry that your grandmother passed away. Even if we are strangers, I would give you a ginormous hug. I know I am a year late, but may she rest in peace. ❤
My dance teacher told me why women's button's are different then men's, it's because A they thought women were to stupid to switch hands and B it was faster for men to unbutton their capes and shirt during sword fights
These are so interesting and well explained. Hearing not only that something didn’t work but WHY is so helpful! I’m curious how you go about the planing process when you first see something you want to cosplay. Maybe a before you start things to consider? Like how much fabric, what patterns to use/make, and also how to pick interfacings.
Thank you! I may do a planning video in the future but the short answer is basically all of my cosplays start with an adobe illustrator document where i make the pattern, compare it to to-scale rectangles at the size the fabric comes in so i can know how much i need, and lots of notes and math, and sketches and stuff like that haha
@@SarahSpaceman it’s amazing that you are able to visualize how to take a typically, 2D image and adapt it to being a real and wearable design. It might not be the most exciting video but it would be very educational for those starting. You make wonderful content!
I would love that actually because I mostly work with miniatures and I have been trying to convert patterns into digital but I’m new to digital medium and I use it more for illustration usually. So for now I’ve been stuck drafting pattern blocks and measurements manually which is prone to inaccuracies with repeated transfers.
Its such a Wonderfull work ;; i really love it, the detailing its insane, so beautifull. Also, i cried at the end, my grandma was who teach me how to sew and make my first cosplay, she passed away 6 years ago, and i really miss go to her house and say “Grandma, look what i made this time!,” so, lots of hugs for you ❤️ i really really love ur work
I love this so much! YT kept recommending me one of your videos, making a different piece of this costume (I didn't know at the time). Honestly it wasnt an item I was interested in so I didnt click. They recomend it because I watch quite a bit of sewing videos. Then instagram showed me your page a few times. Finally checked it out, saw that you made this yourself. Alas here I am! I began sewing two years ago and would absolutely love learning how to make cosplay. It's nice to see someone explqining their process 😊 Congrats on winning!! Oh yeah, about the grandma thing. Mine passed away from Alzheimers a few years ago, before I learned to sew. I never saw her do any sewing in my lifetime, BUT, she was already 70 by the time I was born. I know if she were here today she would be doting on me and the things I make so much. Nobody else in my family has ever done that for me. Love grandmothers ❤
I love how informative these videos are!!! Not only do you describe the steps for this specific look, you give basic sewing background lessons and terminology along the way for a well rounded tutorial.
I didn't sew or make a cosplay while watching this little mini series, but it did give me the motivation o finally update my sims 4 mods and I am very grateful for that
I love seeing the process of this cosplay coming together! It keeps me inspired to work on my own things (currently working on a cosplay of one of my characters and almost finished the main piece!) Love the detail you put in, and the tights explanation is something i was really looking for at the moment so thank you-- Cant wait to see this cosplay finished!! 💙
Dang! With all the details you added, I am so glad that the judges recognized how awesome that cosplay was! The gold and peal beaded sleeve looks like it is part of a royal outfit.
i’ve recently fell down a rabbit hole of your content and you’ve quickly become somebody that i’ll rewatch just to be here, i love your stuff and i hope you continue to upload more of the processes that go into your cosplays😊
I once met a strawberry miku at a con and I asked if they watched these videos for there cosplay, and we got to fangirl together about Sarah’s videos 😭😭 10/10 experience
I adore your videos, to someone who loves cosplay but doesnt really know anything about sewing, these are so informatitive and interesting, ty so much for making these + you're really skilled and very funny
The miku cosplay is the first few videos I see from you, and your explanations are so clear!!! Like crash course clear... Love your 'narrative' arc, visual aids!! Plus you're super entertaining!!
Wow, this is so amazing! I really fell in love with this Miku and was so happy to see that you were creating this cosplay. It is so beautiful and I cannot wait to see the whole thing! I've learned so much about sewing and cosplaying when I watch your videos. Thank you so much for all that you do and I'm excited to see more videos!
These videos are literally so good, most of the time i can never sit through longer videos or series of videos, but these are just so nice to watch and getting to see and learn so many things by the end is always worth it! Love your videos ❤❤
I really love your videos you’re such a skilled seamstress it’s incredible, your videos are so fun to watch and your personality is wonderful and endearing 🥰 lots of love from a viewer across the pond 🇬🇧 and I’m sorry to hear about your grandma 💕
I’m sorry to hear you lost your grandmother. I know my Dad and my grandmother taught me how to sew and make various crafts and I treasure the time we spent together. When I got married she was embarrassed because my family came from lesser means than my husband and all the presents she gave us were ones she had made. I knew what she had made took a lot of effort, time and skill on her part and we’re curated to what I enjoyed even if others at the party didn’t quite like the style. In the end I knew that half of the things people had brought us from the store would come and go but the things my grandmother made would always be there. They are beautiful, unique and made by someone I love dearly so they sit in my home years later. I can’t imagine losing her stories and laughter one day so I am dearly sorry. I am glad you are able to keep her memories with you. ❤
With how high quality the production is of your cosplay and videos, I thought you were a uber famous content creator- Keep up your excellent work, I adore your content
ive been binging this miku series while styling my kazuha wig, and its sm fun learning new stuff by listening and watching while working on something necessary that also takes hours. you explain things amazingly and watching the costume come to life little by little is so exciting!
I discovered your channel today and your work is simply gorgeous. I love that you choose to use the beads and pintucks over simply drawing over the fabric. That extra mile makes all the difference.
This was so much fun to watch. I am a garment sewist(mid- century reproduction for personal wear), I started as a cosplay sewist 20 years ago, have not sewn cosplay in 14 years but now my daughter is 13 and wants to do cosplay so some part of me is very excited about the full circle journey my sewing experience has come. Your grandma is always with you! Every stitch you lay, every old technique you use, every new technique you learn, she is there with you 💜💜
I don't really like sewing or anything that goes to do clothes, but it's fascinating to see other people doing it with so much effort and a lot of techniques ♥️♥️♥️
Your videos are so helpful!! I am an absolute beginner looking to start making my own cosplays and I appreciate how you explain everything in detail so well. Thank you!
I love your videos so much, sewing has been a hobby of mine for a while and I just got into fursuit making (mostly small things, making my first set of paws!) and I just like watching sewing content to learn more techniques and see other people get their projects done and it just gives me a lot more confidence and drive to finish my own. I got a section of my embroidery project done with this though! It’s the one I’ve ignored for… too long. In short, please never stop making these I love seeing your process of making cosplays.
As a beginner cosplayer who wants to make parts of cosplays, over explaining helps so much, like I want to do a scaramouche cosplay and make his hat so I need all the help I can get. I also wanna do a clane ca cosplay and a different vocaloid cosplay, and I know nothing about sewing but my grandma has a sewing machine so thank you
I’m a beginner sewing trying to sew my first cosplay as Ralsei from deltarune, I have very little idea of what I’m doing but watching your videos gives me motivation and inspiration to keep working on it. Thank you!
I've been watching your videos non stop while working on my finals + doing house chores!! It's been really great to learn abojt your process as someone who doesn't know a lot about sewing. Love your content!!!
my mother started watching the video with me and she sews mittens and stuff like that from recycled fabric, and she was amazed by your skills. Keep up the good work i love the costume
Watching your videos helped motivate me to work on the mockup for my cosplay I've been putting off because it has a zipper and bias tape, which I've never used before!
Hi! I actually was drawing while watching your series of this cosplay. And the character I was drawing was Miku x strawberry bcuz i thought your cosplay was really pretty and now I'm back in my Miku phase again. And I really love your channel and it's been about a week since i found this channel, have a great day and some more love from me!
Love your videos! I've been cosplaying for several years now but there are so many things I never learned properly and just hacked my way through, but I think your channel will help me finally level up a bit ^^
found myself watching this video for like the 10th time, still never gets old, i love your content and every time i get the notification that you posted i squeal in excitement
i can literally not make anything like this- i cant do anything without heavy instructions except when it comes to my music and art, this is literally amazing holy crap
I'm currently making a cosplay for one of my original characters (first time doing it diy) while watching this video and i just have to say that it's the perfect type of video to watch and listen in the background that helps me keep motivated as we both work on our cosplays "at the same time" :))) plus i get a lot of new interesting tips and info from your explanations!
The power mesh for the puffy sleeves part is genius. I’m working on Dandelion Breeze Jean (have not started the puffies yet) and my idea was silicon-backed elastics. If that doesn’t work though, I’ll run to Joanns and see if they got any of that power mesh in stock
tip for if you forget to add width to your pattern for pintucks- add the pintucks to your fabric before you cut the pieces out and that way you get your pintucks with a wrong pattern :)
I found your channel a week ago and binged everything😂 I LOVE your humor and endless creativity. Looking forward to all the new creative things you'll do in years to come🌟✨
i was working on my cardcaptor sakura crochet cosplay for supanova brisbane first time i watched this but now rewatching these videos im planning on doing my own rendition on the strawberry miku but crochet!! (for most of the project not all cuz w the skirt and socks im planning on sewing it instead of crochetting it but everything else down to the bows will be crochet)
Found your channel while making my kids bento this morning ^_^ I love your work and am so excited to get back to sewing in January when they go back to school :) all my kids, my husband and I love anime and I dunno why but watching this video and a few others of yours made creating a complete and amazing product feel possible again :) thank you ^_^
Legit this channel is my new comfy thing to listen to while I'm drawing, it really helps keep me on task for some reason. I need moar! (But also no rush xD)
I lost my grandma a couple years back. She was the one who taught me how to sew and read patterns and every time I wear kimono-style robe I made with her as my first project I remember all the fun I had learning with her. Don't worry about over-explaining, I like learning more about sewing while I get to see something pretty made and I appreciate that you don't assume the watchers know.
Love this video so much!! Brushing out my friend’s Frankie Stein wig while watching this, and i’m wearing Jester Lavorre (critical role) for Halloween things tonight!
I’m watching this while trying to make a mock-up for my third anniversary Rui cosplay from Pjsk and I must say you are one of the BEST cosplayers I’ve ever seen keep up the good work Sarah!☆ :)
*hugs* I know how you feel about your grandma’s sewing machine. The feeling will never fade. My overlock was my grandma’s machine I use often. I even named the overlock Dorothy.
Never stop overexplaining, I love hearing all about the information needed to make things, every bit helps
Will do! So happy its helpful! ☺
yes!! i dont cosplay but i sew and honestly this is so insightful

Thanks so much! Im really happy with how those came out!
Sarah: It's called inter facing! Not inter face! And here's a whole dictionary of explanation of why that is.
Also Sarah: Necky-part.
I like, scream cackled, thats not just a good read, thats the best read ive ever gotten, bless you

I love seeing the process of this cosplay coming together! It keeps me inspired to work on my own things (currently working on a cosplay of one of my characters and almost finished the main piece!)
Love the detail you put in, and the tights explanation is something i was really looking for at the moment so thank you-- Cant wait to see this cosplay finished!! 💙
Thanks so much! And best of luck on your cosplay!
I just love how you explain everything and I cannot believe you don't have more followers!! Ur amazing and I could watch you forever!!!❤
I once met a strawberry miku at a con and I asked if they watched these videos for there cosplay, and we got to fangirl together about Sarah’s videos 😭😭 10/10 experience
I adore your videos, to someone who loves cosplay but doesnt really know anything about sewing, these are so informatitive and interesting, ty so much for making these
+ you're really skilled and very funny
The miku cosplay is the first few videos I see from you, and your explanations are so clear!!! Like crash course clear... Love your 'narrative' arc, visual aids!! Plus you're super entertaining!!
Wow, this is so amazing! I really fell in love with this Miku and was so happy to see that you were creating this cosplay. It is so beautiful and I cannot wait to see the whole thing! I've learned so much about sewing and cosplaying when I watch your videos. Thank you so much for all that you do and I'm excited to see more videos!
Thank you so much!! Im so happy theyre helpful!
ive been sewing my sarah kazuno cosplay while bingeing these videos and i love it
These videos are literally so good, most of the time i can never sit through longer videos or series of videos, but these are just so nice to watch and getting to see and learn so many things by the end is always worth it!
Thanks so much! Or I'll say it in your language, Thanks Mate! haha
I just love the fact that there is someone watching The Yard in the background…
The blouse turned out awesome btw!!
Haha, yeah thats my boyfriends computer, thats him watching on remote desktop from the bedroom 😂
ive been binging this miku series while styling my kazuha wig, and its sm fun learning new stuff by listening and watching while working on something necessary that also takes hours. you explain things amazingly and watching the costume come to life little by little is so exciting!
I absolutely love that I found your channel! Your "over explaining" is so very helpful!
I discovered your channel today and your work is simply gorgeous. I love that you choose to use the beads and pintucks over simply drawing over the fabric. That extra mile makes all the difference.
I LOVE love watching/listening to you while i do homework 😭😭♥️♥️ hearing your voice just helps give comfort and also helps me focus
As a hatsune miku fan, i really genuinely admire all the hard work you put into ur cosplay
Honestly these things are pretty interesting and entertaining to watch. Please never stop making videos!!
Every stitch you lay, every old technique you use, every new technique you learn, she is there with you 💜💜
How can someone be this talented yet so relatable?!??❤
I don't really like sewing or anything that goes to do clothes, but it's fascinating to see other people doing it with so much effort and a lot of techniques ♥️♥️♥️
You are too talented for this universe .
I’ve been listening to your videos as I work on my Flick cosplay and it’s so nice!! :)
Thank you!
I love the way you explain your steps because the work is super complicated, but the tone of your voice n the words you use make it seem....doable.
Cool and high-quality as always! You are sooo good!
Thank you so much!
That is awesome! Thank you to you and tell her thank you from me!
I started cosplaying in 2003, and just - wow. Your video made me realize how many more fabrics are available, now. And it's been 20 years? How?
Watching your videos helped motivate me to work on the mockup for my cosplay I've been putting off because it has a zipper and bias tape, which I've never used before!
Hi! I actually was drawing while watching your series of this cosplay. And the character I was drawing was Miku x strawberry bcuz i thought your cosplay was really pretty and now I'm back in my Miku phase again. And I really love your channel and it's been about a week since i found this channel, have a great day and some more love from me!
I did a single beading project maybe 25 years ago and I never had any interest in beading until I saw those sleeves!
Love your videos! I've been cosplaying for several years now but there are so many things I never learned properly and just hacked my way through, but I think your channel will help me finally level up a bit ^^
I love spotting the cats in the background, another great video!
found myself watching this video for like the 10th time, still never gets old, i love your content and every time i get the notification that you posted i squeal in excitement
i can literally not make anything like this- i cant do anything without heavy instructions except when it comes to my music and art, this is literally amazing holy crap
You are an amazing sewist! You can sew the most incredible straight sitch that is really straight. Thanks for the great explaining.
can't wait to see the wig, great job with the cosplay so far
Thank you!!
This video gave me the motivation I needed to finish adding ruffles to one of my cosplays for Colossalcon North 💪
That's awesome! You got this!
thank you soo much for making this series because you have really inspired me to make cosplays!^^
Videos like these are why I keep cosplaying. It’s really inspires me and idk how to write this out but like yeah
I really admire cosplayers that make their own cosplays. I’ll never have this kind of patience in my life lmao
tip for if you forget to add width to your pattern for pintucks- add the pintucks to your fabric before you cut the pieces out and that way you get your pintucks with a wrong pattern :)
I found your channel a week ago and binged everything😂 I LOVE your humor and endless creativity. Looking forward to all the new creative things you'll do in years to come🌟✨
While watching this I finished making a jumper for my favourite stuffed animal!!! He looks so cute
your videos are the best thing to return to while also working on a cosplay, you really are just the most inspirational cosplayer ever
i was working on my cardcaptor sakura crochet cosplay for supanova brisbane first time i watched this but now rewatching these videos im planning on doing my own rendition on the strawberry miku but crochet!! (for most of the project not all cuz w the skirt and socks im planning on sewing it instead of crochetting it but everything else down to the bows will be crochet)
Found your channel while making my kids bento this morning ^_^ I love your work and am so excited to get back to sewing in January when they go back to school :) all my kids, my husband and I love anime and I dunno why but watching this video and a few others of yours made creating a complete and amazing product feel possible again :) thank you ^_^
aside from this being absolutely amazing i wanna say i love the graphics you use to explain some techniques/material
Thank you! So glad you like them!
Legit this channel is my new comfy thing to listen to while I'm drawing, it really helps keep me on task for some reason. I need moar! (But also no rush xD)
I love your over explained segments. And the powermesh sleeves for detached sleeves is genius
Thank you!
You're amazing! Love the pin tucks! Also appreciate what you said about messy sewers.
Love that! and thank you!
This is the best Halloween present ever!!!! Thank you for the upload ❣️
Aww yay! Happy Halloween!
I watched your vids b4 and guess who inspired me to start sewing , You! thanks for boosting my creativity
This is stunning!!!!!!!
This video also unlocked a new sewing fear. Pin folds /j
LMAO ily that got an audible laugh out of me
