That's sweet :) But it's also kind of her job so she has a lot of time to make it and a lot of experience. I'm sure your cosplays are amazing too ! Even if it takes a lot of time
Back when I was was into homestuck the comic would update during cons or right before all the time and people would literally show up the next day inexplicably wearing a costume of something from the update. Like say a new character was introduced, give it hours and someone has a full cosplay read to go. And this was before cosplay is what it is today.
I personally really like when people take creative liberties in their cosplays. Real life has so many more textures and shimmers and patterns that won't be represented in animation and video games due to their limitations but look so incredible in person. I would say it's the difference between "making it accurate" and "bringing it to life," and I love your cosplays because you always bring the characters to life.
I have to say I absolutely love that you include the imperfections and the mess-ups like the collar not being centered, or the zipper pucker in your videos! When I'm working on my own pieces and mess up something that feels like "the basics" of sewing, I get really discouraged and beat myself up for it unfairly, and start comparing myself to my friends and other cosplayer's perfect-looking finished pieces and costumes (bad habit, I'm working on it). Seeing things like the collar get re-done and fixed and it not being a big deal is such a gift and gives me the motivation to keep going with my own projects despite any "beginner" mistakes I make even though I've been sewing for about 7 years now. Thank you so much for those human errors you allow in your videos Sarah, it means so much more to me than I can ever properly put into words 💖 and Pomni turned out beautifully!! She's so fun looking with all the different textures and patterns!! :)
I'm crying over here con-crunching for Momo for months, and Sarah finishes in less than a week 😂 Always love your craftsmanship and ability to put out good cosplay. *chefs kiss* 🤌
I love how firm you are about defending a cosplayer's interpretation of a character design. I was struggling on buying certain fabric colors for an upcoming cosplay as well as tweaking the original design (moving up the waistline to match my body type better, making the neck much shorter and just a stand-up collar rather than a turtle-neck situation, etc.), and I remembered how you talked about fabric colors in your Snow Miku video and how it _didn't_ _matter_ if a cosplay isn't a one for one exact copy of the character design (referencing your WIP Rosalina cosplay from a while ago). It really helped to return to the stance of: "It doesn't matter if it isn't the same. What matters is if I'm happy with it." With that mantra in mind.....I have 5 days to pull a ball gown out of my sewing machine. ouo;;;;;;
12:36 not joking, when I was listening to Sarah and eating my brunch, I thought “hey, Pomni’s sleeves look like Snow White’s. They even got the same colors.” And then she said that and I started laughing 😂 Great video Sarah! Love how personal you made the costume with all the different fabrics you used :)
Bro idk what happened. At the start of this video my internet went all crazy and it kept on repeating the “ With a month left “ part. I created a song out of that. Thank you Sarah spaceman. I will be proposing this song to my Band. Btw I just mean the lyrics are inspired by what she said not that I am gonna use her voice!
As someone who owns several of those old sawdust filled porcelain face clown dolls your choice of different patterns for the yellow REALLY makes you look like an old clown doll which is so perfect for Pomni!
@@helixxia9320 Used to have a lot but now I think I only have... about a dozen or so left along with a hand full of porcelain masks you hang on the wall
Adding the different textures and patterns is such a great idea, definitely one of the most unique looking Pomni cosplay I've seen. Incredibly well done. I don't do cosplay, but always enthralled by the entire process and the eventual outcome.
7:17 I love how the entire sewing community saw this tutorial, went "holy shit" and then it proceed to blow up It's so big even my teachers are showing us this trick LOL
so like, it's fair if you don't have time, but what actually happened there, and how does it help with the zipper being too long? i did look up the tashacouldmake tutorial but i don't think i saw anything like "pressing down a blob"? does this video have a modified version of that technique? it was a little hard for me to tell what was going on though... i'm a v v basic beginner in sewing, like just learning types of hand stitches. no worries either way though!
Your work is really incredible. It’s clear the respect you have for your craft! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. It’s inspiring to watch someone dedicate their love and energy to something they love.
17:46 i use washable puffy paint to make little dots all over the bottom of any slippers / shoes I make. it works just like the grippy socks they give you in the hospital.
It is so mind boggling to me, how when I'm struggling with an aspect of one of my projects, Sarah drops a video with the exact answer that I needed. I would have never known about a lapped zipper if I didn't watch this. She inspires me so much, with cosplay/sewing and TH-cam! This was such a nice video.
Sarah, you inspired me to start looking into cosplay. I think that this may be one of the best cosplay’s you’ve made, and I love dot kinky so much! I’m impressed and inspired by this video. ❤
I don't go here, but that is so freaking cute. Also the patchworking is making me wanna push a patchwork dress up my project list and now my projects with deadlines are glaring at me. 😂
this is an absolutely amazing cosplay, i gotta make one like that for myself. One thing tho, it doesn't really matter, but Pomni is a jester not a clown. It makes sense for the series that pomni is a jester, being a voice of reason and relatability in the show. Clowns are more about poking fun at themselves, and are very self deprecating, and jesters poke fun at the higher powers that be (royalty, but also in modern day would be capitalism, celebs, etc.), pointing out their flaws and hypocrisy, which has its purpose. i could write waaaaay more about it but it doesnt really matter.
I absolutely love the use of texture with the two kinds of minky and the patchwork on the yellow. It gives so much dimension and adds sophistication. Wonderful work!!
As I am actually trying to sew a bodysuit for the first time for this summer, the advice for the back panels is very much appreciated! Excellent work as always!
So, i love making hats (i have like 35ish hats, and yes my favourite game is tf2) and i made a _"Pomni hat"_ as well I only cut out two pieces of fabric in a general shape (the shape was like a big "M"ish shape), sewed them and added an elastic band in the brim of the hat so it can look very gathered in your head But i loved the method you used, it's very structured. Mine ended up being more deflated
1:27 I know this is an old video but I really miss when you’d explain certain sewing/fabric terms! Just me being a lost crafter not knowing what duck fabric is 😭😭😭😭 love you so much though Sarah you are the besssst.
I AM LESS THEN A MINUTE IN AND SARAH ARE YOU INSANE AN ENTIRE OUTFIT MADE FROM MINKY!!!!?!?! my hat goes off to you as someone who has had the... joyful experience of quilting minky. I am exited to see the video ^-^ I have now finnished the video and.... your.. cosplay.... is... WONDERFUL!!!! So filled with joy! I think your take on this character is incredibly fun!
LOVE this! I started watching your channel with strawberry × Miku and it felt so heartening seeing you make a clown costume (I'm not familiar with this character lol) because I kept thinking of the moment of sheer joy you had with the blouse you made for Miku and how you compared it to a clown in the try-on phase 😊
I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but the reason your collar didn't match up correctly is that you need to match the collar pieces at the seam allowance. This will make sure that the corners end up absolutely perfect every time.❤❤❤
14:06 id be SO afraid of my skin getting stuck in the closures 😭😭 had that a few too many times on my waist with backpacks, i would hate having that happen on my thighs love the video so far though!! im not in this fandom and a beginner to sewing but love seeing the process and seeing how techniques are used in practice!! cant wait to check out your channel more :D
sorry im high and not done yelling yet i LOVE how you take the time to talk through the choices you make and why you make them, which makes understanding how patterns etc work much easier!!!! also holy shit that looks like such a hard fabric to work with??? thats so cool??? you are so cool i hope you have a nice day
I had a blanket with the dotted minky on one side and this curly fabric on the other. Both held up quite well in the wash. I used that blanket for at least 5 years and the dots are still dotty.
That's a cool way to do the zipper, I generally make all my closures before everything because I hate fighting with a whole costume just to add the zipper
bless you for using the dot minky, i literally cringe every time i touch it at the store i cant imagine trying to wear it all day after sewing it together
I've been sewing for a while and make comission costumes for my friends sometimes so I consider myself a good seamstress but I always LOVE watching your videos because you are hilarious and I learn something new everytime or I can relate to the struggle! 😅
Literally minutes before this video came out, I had to check your drill curl video to remember the brand of glue gun you were using - only to come across this video with the release time being "four minutes ago." Talk about timing!!
I was hoping we’d get another character breakdown in this video like the others cause I have no idea who this is. But you did a great job all the same!
I just started my first ever self-made cosplay (marcille from dungeon meshi:D), and got my first sewing machine and your channel has been super helpful, and entertaining!!! Very cool Pomni cosplay, I love the big shorts so much lol
My plans is to be pomni for Halloween, but I don't have time to make one completely from scratch, so my plan is to buy the spirit Halloween costume and spruce it it!
I honestly have Pomni on my cosplay list so it's great to see you made a video for her! I also wanted to play around with what kind of fabrics I could use for her since she is one of the more solid designs compared to other characters I have, but seeing this is a huge help on how to go about her! (I also wanted to do a big ol Gummygoo plushie for me to hold around as like a prop for me to carry around since 1. Love the little gummy croc, and 2. just seemed fitting. ) Thanks for the inspiration!
Tip for the future: to line up collars like this you need to mark your seam allowance on the center points and overlap the two pieces so the seam allowance center points touch and baste/tack it in place then continue as before to attach the collar with it now as one piece. Hope this helps 😊
This is so cool!! I love all the different textures (especially the minky). I’m working on a project with minky right now and my workspace is COVERED in minky fuzz
Gorgeous gorgeous GORGEOUS. You did her such JUSTICE!!! Not a shade at all but I would like to see that with the spider lashes facing down on one eye. Just to see how absolutely silly it looks.
Honestly I found your channel a few months ago, and I've been incessantly watching cosplay (+ cosplay adjacent) videos for so long And bc of your very transparent and honest vibe and amazing explanations as well as peer pressure, I've finally dabbled a bit in cosplay and my brother sewing machine will be coming soon (yay discount)!!!! Thank you so much again
I love your videos, In fact you have inspired me to start working on my first cosplay like a year ago. I suck at sewing though, most of my project is held by hot glue lol.
tip for separating zippers, if you get a metal one you can use some pliers, pry the stop thingy off, pull the zipper teeth off where you want it to end and put the stop back
THANK YOU FOR THE DOT MINKY REPRESENTATION!! i’ve always wanted to use it in clothing because i think it’s so cute and cheerful and playful but never got around to it. i’m happy you used it here it’s so nice
I LOVE THISSSS- the only thing that i think would be SUPER COOL would be if you did one of the spider lash sets on the lower lashes, cause that's how pomni's lashes look. STILL THINK ITS SUPER SICK WITH BOTH ON TOP THO!!!!!!
If the collars are barely just touching at the edge of the fabric, there's going to be a small gap between them on the seam line. When you pin the collars in place, they should overlap slightly within the seam allowance so they just touch each other at the seam line.
Some of my favorite cosplays are done not completely accurate and have stylistic changes! It makes them unique and cool to look at, since you can find things that you can't find on the character themself and it makes the cosplay feel personal to the person wearing it!
The latest Tom Nicholas video played The Music over some sections and my subconscious kept expecting him to bust out a completed costume shoot while talking about British regional government
I want to achieve this kind of power, and it looks so excellent! (Also a question, can i make cosplays of my own characters? Or it's only from other people shows?)
i love the poofyness of this cosplay !! the patchwork makes it so cute edited to add: patterning and cutting out the fabric always take ages they do need their own separate days not in the final count haha
That zipper method was straight out of my sewing machine's manual except the basting stitches were all meant to be done on a machine and not by hand. It is a Brother machine and it has so many useful instructions inside it for all sorts of things if anyone wants to look up one of their manuals for a middle or high end machine. They should have them all online for free for anyone to access and the instructions can be used on other machines too I used the method on a fully closed body suit but it was a stretchy material and also a body suit for my dog so much much smaller than the one in the video. I did mess up a tiny bit but like my dog doesn't care so it was good enough bc it is an annoying process to do. It is also slightly misaligned at the butt too lol
Even though I haven't seen the show, I instantly recognized the character and your poofier pants made much more sense to my brain - especially as an IRL costume portrayal. (Like how sometimes you could make a costume 100% but it would look dumb IRL cause of physics/material/cost/etc, so a certain alteration becomes "canon" in the cosplay sphere.) It looks more playful and I bet you'll have a ton of fun walking around in it at cons!
I'ma be honest when I saw the cosplay the first thing that came to mind was my 17 year old baby blanket and I was not disappointed by how amazing it turned out
its actually so baffling to me that one can make an entire pomni cosplay in 4 days- i made my sisters in a month 😭😭
That’s so cute what!!!
That's sweet :) But it's also kind of her job so she has a lot of time to make it and a lot of experience. I'm sure your cosplays are amazing too ! Even if it takes a lot of time

20:27 ✨EDNA MODE✨
That zipper method was straight out of my sewing machine's manual except the basting stitches were all meant to be done on a machine and not by hand. It is a Brother machine and it has so many useful instructions inside it for all sorts of things if anyone wants to look up one of their manuals for a middle or high end machine. They should have them all online for free for anyone to access and the instructions can be used on other machines too
I used the method on a fully closed body suit but it was a stretchy material and also a body suit for my dog so much much smaller than the one in the video.
That looks so good!! And you only did it in 4 days!? What! Thats amazing!
your hair looks so much better!
I'ma be honest when I saw the cosplay the first thing that came to mind was my 17 year old baby blanket and I was not disappointed by how amazing it turned out
Editing looks great on this! Idk if it was anything different but it's very nice
I personally love your take on Pomni! I acutely just recently went to my first con, and made a cardboard Jax costume. 😁
Going to Momocon and can’t WAIT TO MEET YOU!!!🎉🎉🎉
Hey Sarah can you do some videos on how you do your makeup I love how it looks and I was wondering how you did it
