  • Drawing from their rich history of creating incredible archtops, Epiphone has recreated the big band-era guitars of old in the forms of the Epiphone Olympic, Zenith, and Deluxe. Coupling the style of their 1930s counterparts with 21st century electronics, the new Epiphone Masterbilt series is an unbeatable homage to the company's past.

    I'm an electric player and never cared a bit for acoustic guitars. I got one of these Olympics and long story short, it's the first thing I reach for at home and what I spend most of my time playing when I'm not on stage. Love it!

    • @billherbert4961
      @billherbert4961 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you still reach for your Olympic first? I have 8 nice guitars hanging proudly, others stored, and so far it's a toss up between my cheap but awesome old acoustic, my super loved and modded Squire SE and my new (5 years in a shop "new" ) '66 Century. I suspect in 4 years my EPI will still be a go-to for me.

    I've been looking to upgrade my acoustic guitar and I started researching mid-price Taylor's (particularly the Koa GS mini) and Martins generally. On Sunday, I went to my local music shop to continue my research and I saw the Zenith sitting there. I am a sucker for f-holes and arch tops in sunburst. I started jamming on it and I fell in love with the neck and tone. It sounds very nice. I want to see if I can try out the other models before deciding if this is my new choice of acoustic guitar. It's either these or a Seagull Maritime

      Maybe, in terms of quality control, but certainly not in terms of the quality of woods and components. These, for example, are not great. They have laminate back and sides and the solid tops are pressed, not carved, as the originals were.

    Why didn't you mic the archtops?!?!

    • @polishbroadcast
      @polishbroadcast 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Every other demo of these has been the same so I'm guessing they don't sound that great acoustic. They are probably laminate tops so wouldn't have much volume. The focus seems to be on the electronics. Acoustic archtops have always been a niche (jazz), of a niche (archtop), of a niche (acoustic archtop).

    • @ildiodelmetallonero
      @ildiodelmetallonero 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually the top is solid, as stated on the Epi's website

    • @polishbroadcast
      @polishbroadcast 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same difference IMO. Sometimes you can get a good sounding laminate or pressed solid top, but the plates alone for those guitars cost twice what these Epiphones cost. So it could be a "solid" top but not carved. I would love to try one though, or hear a video where they play it acoustically.

    I don't have a Masterbilt, but I do have a 2017 (end of 2016 line I think) '66 Century. Purchased new Jan 2022. So sat around the shops here in NZ for a long time....or somewhere else, then here. She's named Zola. Only a half thick body, but MASSIVE at the waist. Very light, very comfortable. Near Strat comfort somehow. About as big a body as they come, plus that tall Kalamazoo headstock. She's a big guitar. Chinese, but I think they're nearly all from China and it's a good factory. Fret finishing work was TERRIBLE, but I knew I'd sort that myself. ABS Nut is sad and has to go, but that'll wait. I almost understand poor fretwork finishing for price point, but other companies like Godin turn our nice frets for the money. Squires are finished better and are below the $1000 price point in my experience. The frets took me 10 hours and they're great now. It's a tough call but Zola might be my favs guitar. I do have some nice partscasters and mods that I built and am proud of, but Zola just sounds so good plugged or unplugged, distorted or clean. P90 is awesome.

    Hmmm. Not sure what these are supposed to be... dont sound remotely jazzy through the inbuilt piezo pickup. They dont really sound like regular acoustics either, although all the Epiphone demos seem to show singer-songwriters strumming them like dreadnoughts.

  • @drothberg3
    @drothberg3 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’ve tried a few of these in music stores. I wasn’t impressed. The sound seemed dull and muted. I guess I’m spoiled that I’ve tried a few vintage Epi arch tops from before they were acquired by Gibson. So much better, all solid wood and carved tops. The tops on these are solid, but pressed, not carved, and the backs and sides are laminate. I’m interested in an arch top as an acoustic guitar, not as an electric.

    I’m sorry, I don’t want to be rude. But I don’t see any serious professional musician using these guitars. I think these guitars are for “wannabes”. I appreciate the effort and the creativity on building something with a vintage look that feels nice and affordable but I don’t find the sound to be quite attractive.
