  • With the new Masterbilt Century series for 2016, Epiphone have done something very cool and original - they're bringing back vintage designs from the 1920s and 1930s, but with some brillinat upgrades for modern players. This Epiphone Masterbilt Series won't disappoint those guitarists looking for an acoustic with a difference - authentic vintage looks, but modern features.

The Mic'd sound is very "normal acoustic" sounding. Adding the ambient meat of the acoustic sounds really shows how these stand out from a normal Yamaha or Taylor.

This is the video I was looking for, a variety of playing techniques across various mic'd/amp settings with these instruments. Thank you!

The Olympic has laminated mahogany back and sides, its the zenith that has laminated flame maple back and sides, both do have solid carved spruce tops though.

Ordered this week! Box came yesterday so I waited patiently to open it..I finally got impatient and opened a well packed series of boxes and pulled out the case! When I opened it up it was like magic!!!! No guitar they shipped it separately!! Back to the patience game! Maybe today!!

Excellent video. Really fine playing too - shows off the guitars' tonal variations quite well. I have a Zenith round hole on order. Sounds the same, just my preference. Cheers!

Well done review with comprehensive sound evaluation. I only found out how good the Masterbilt acoustics are just two years ago. Wondering why these models are no longer part of the Epiphone lineup after just a few years? Really like the sound, esp of the Olympic.

Sam you are no. 1 when it comes to reviews. I enjoy all your reviews. You have made my mind up to buy or not to buy for many years. Thank you for highly professional reviews. Tell me any chance you might know what kind of strings were on that epiphone masterbilts century Zenith. Thanks a lot man. Jeff Clark from Rockdale Texas USA . We be just plain old country boys down here

It’s kinda funny how pretty much every video I see of these features people playing blues on them instead of jazz. Including me. I wanna use it for delta blues.

If you were to take 2 Zeniths, one with the under saddle pickup and one with it removed, would they sound much different ACOUSTICALLY?

I woke up this mornin did't recognize the man in the mirror, . . . . . I have one of these and I can say they are a heavy lumber truck of sound for an acoustic, very percussive, it does "mellow" once plugged in and mixed.

I got the zenith and am very very happy with it. I feel like I'm cheating on my old maton! am now agonizing over whether or not to fit the scratch board.

just got one. nice guitar. best neck ever. nano flex is unusable even at low volume due feedback on the trapeze tail piece, and i mean unusable.all you can do is play very gently to avoid that nasty after ring. would be way better with nano mag. other than that it is superb.

kevin james dawes turn down the gain. World for me. The pickup is a bit over sensitive. But, I like. Especially since I won it at a raffle for $5

There are ways to dampen the 'after ring' of the trapeze tailpiece...

Gaff tape the F holes, seems to help for use with electric guitar amps. The Fishman loudbox makes this guitar sing acoustically! It's definitely the way to go or you could put an magnetic pickup in it. Too bad that's not an option
