Software version 2.2 is supposed to increase the efficiency which in turn will increase range. It was just released last week. 7/11/22. Would have like to see if there was a difference with the software update.
@@EVResource Check what software you’re running first. It’s either 2.1 or 2.2. I think you saw the version of the Android Automotive. Go to settings>software update. It will search then tell you want version you have
Great test. Lucky you got good traffic on 95. It's usually a nightmare. I've never been on 95 when there wasn't construction or a wreck. As far as the discrepancy between the instrument cluster and the range assistant goes, the range estimate in the instrument cluster is fixed at the manufacturers range estimate and doesn't take anything into consideration. The Range assistant on the 12 inch screen seen does, so it's more accurate. Its range adjusts nearly instantly to driving style or condition changes.
Yeah, I got super lucky. I'm thinking next time I'm going to use I-295 instead. I appreciate your clarification about the range estimates! It's tough when you only get a small amount of time with a car to understand all of the ins and outs intimately. :)
@@EVResource Glad to help. I'm glad I didn't come across as snarky. You got a tough job in front of the camera and have to digest a lot of info in a short period of time.
@@daedalus921 My understanding is that the last update increased the range to 250 from 240, and the software for 2023 is suppose to increase the range to 260.
Hey Greg! I believe this Polestar 2 does have the “plus pack” which includes a heat pump. I don’t know that I would have seen much difference for my test (being in the summer). I don’t know about software version, I’ll have to double check on that. Wheels are the 20” with 245/40/R20 tires.
Glad you enjoyed the video! It’s been a blast to drive around. More videos in the works. I will definitely make a point to share details like these in those videos. 👍👍 Dual motor! Software is version: 12.8.0 (22w20), because the car has the “plus pack” I can safely assume that it has the heat pump as well.
Did this have any of the driving assist Pilot features? I wonder if that sensor package drains more battery, and if you used it on the highway it would reduce range?
@@EVResource as an example the self-driving Super Cruise in a GM car uses 5 additional CPUs, a couple hundred feet of wire and four new cameras and radar sensors (I used to work for GM). They may have the sensors on all the time so that even if you don’t use them, the current draw is the same on or off.
I don’t know… my experience with it was certainly related to the sun coming in from above. With the window shades in position above my head I was quite comfortable!
Well… I happened to try with and without the sunshade above me… and was much more comfortable with. Not sure what more you’re looking for me to say. I can only speak to the experience that I’ve had with it.
You seem to have missed my point. I was perfectly comfortable with the sun being blacked from coming in from above. The sun coming in the windows didn’t matter.
Excellent range is not something you'd associate with a Polestar 2, it's not the best (at all) on that front. You use this in winter, in normal conditions meaning not charging up to 100% (that's bad) but 90% and the range will be seriously a different story. Also, this is a very powerful car, with a punchy aggressive acceleration for lots of money. Seems useless to buy this car and have to drive it as slow as possible in order to get the most range....
@@flybeep1661 it’s excellent for a non-Tesla…. It’s not top of the market, but for such a nice car, it’s respectable. Simple drive it fast at home when you have a charge, slower on road trips for distance!
I'm really glad to see more datapoints on these highway range tests. Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome!
Great video! Was worried a bit at the end, glad you made it.
Thanks Rajeev! I was worried a little bit too… but the Polestar handled it beautifully.
Yes, Polestar makes a flexible/removable sunscreen for the glass roof. It doesn’t block all the light (which is nice), but definitely less light…
Good to know!!

I still have the car. Maybe I’ll do a second test…

Great video! A few questions: 1. Did the Polestar have a heat pump? 2. What software version was it on? 3. What size wheels (19, or 20)?
Great questions. I wonder if software updates would affect range (up OR down).

Probably not. It’s a borrowed car though, so I’ll let them update the software as they want to.

I don’t know that feature like that use a noticeable amount of energy. Would love to find out though!

It's really not the pano roof. It's the other SIX windows!! If they were tinted, it wouldn't be as hot!!

Standard range or long range?
This had the bigger 78kWh battery because it was the AWD version.
