I like how you guys mentioned what parts of the light system is led and incandescent. A lot of reviewers just mention only led, because of the accent light when the turn, reverse and brake light are incandescent.
I own a 2021 in the T5 R-Design. It’s the best car I’ve owned. Never a problem in the 2 years so far I’ve had it. We cross-shopped the CX5 for the features and style, but the transmission in the Volvo is much more refined and smooth, and power delivery felt way better. My only real complaints are the low fuel economy for the small engine and they need to stop putting so much in the infotainment. I’d like more buttons for certain features.
I strongly agree with this. Solidly built and very reliable. The Harman system is actually better than most other HK (and similar) systems other manufacturers use, but it's too bad you can't option the spectacular Bowers & Wilkins system in the XC40. The infotainment is so-so, but I think it is made to be "set and forget" and it functions well as such. I set my climate control to auto and don't touch them much; for everything else I use voice controls: media playback, seat/wheel heat etc.
I just saw your channel because I’m really considering this exactly car. Holy hell man, we’ll done. I’ve watched five other videos on this exact car and was about to call it and then figured “ah, I’ll watch one more..”. Best video by far. You covered EVERYTHING I wanted to know and then some. POV reference and everything. Keep up the good work my friends. Liked and subbed.
Since I am considering the XC40 in Plus trim I would have preferred a review based on the Plus trim. Nevertheless, this video was awesome. Thanks so much for doing such an excellent job.
We own a 2023 Ultimate XC40. Be sure that you have a good Volvo service department nearby. As cars become more technology oriented there are bound to be more problems. You are buying a computer system (android) and a car. Just after we bought our car it spent over a week at the dealer because of software issues and a bad engine related sensor. I always appreciate your detailed descriptions of interior controls and features. I wish you would have shown the car’s steering wheel controls and display menu choices.
I like Volvos! They have always been an interesting vehicle. Slight difference in variations from other vehicles. Another great honest review! A little Drew humour with the paint and sweatshirt colour! 😂. And Mason, what size is your sweatshirt. We are roughly the same and I’m ready to order mine. Thanks and enjoy your weekend!
A question on your sound tests. what was you impression on the tyre noise? I read some people complain online on the tyre noise with 20 inch wheels (of which I really like the design), or do you believe they don't impact really impact the sound/comfort experience in comparison to 19 inch ones? Thx
Without driving and testing them back-to-back it's hard to say. But based on the hundreds of cars we've tested, I wouldn't anticipate much of a difference. The main thing is the amount of sound deadening a vehicle has and that doesn't change between trims for this one
New cars are using all LED and some bulbs that appear similar to be incandescent but incandescent refers to the type of light not necessarily how the bulb is designed. Similar to how led bulbs replaced your old incandescent in your lamps in your home. What you guys should be referring to is size of led light source like pixels that are currently the smallest you’ll find on car lighting
Why is the plug in hybrid the only xc40 that does not have the google system installed and the others do? Can this system be installed after the market? I bought my xc40 thinking that it had the google system but they told me no, and in some places like the official volvo store it says that all vehicles are ready to have it but they don't say how to do it.
At least here in the U.S, there is no such thing as PHEV XC40. We only have the electric Recharge and it had the Google software before this version got it this year
Great video guys! I have been waiting for this one; considering an XC40 to replace my Evoque. I just wish the black roof was still an option! Thanks for all the info!
Our skew is towards general consumers and most people don't know hardly anything about tires we have found. So rather than confuse, we keep it to the basics of wheel size and tread kind if it's not the default all-season. Thanks for watching!
I just got one about 2 weeks ago, I have no idea what regenerative braking is but the first thing I noticed when I got it was that the brakes well aren’t nearly as touchy as I was expecting for a new car and I do find myself having to brake harder
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦Toronto 💕 review and stats. Question? Is this good vehicle to get pre owned? Can you comment on Upkeep costs ..??? When considering A pre owned future purchase !!! Cheers!! 🇨🇦🇨🇦
I wish the dash had analog gauges. I'm sick of all this computer crap everywhere. Also, does the upgraded Harmon Kardon system sound really great? Just because you spend more money doesn't mean it's hi-fi. Maybe it's better to add a really great sound system later? I love the bright, open, airy cabin. Most cars today have high beltlines and narrow windows yielding dark and claustrophobic interiors. Well done, Volvo.
My personal taste, I hate the screen controls for climate control as well as heating seats. I prefer real buttons. Also at this price point they should have ventilated seats. I love the rest of the car.
The two tone roof is an now old trend and you are seeing cheap cars coping that design and once a trend goes mainstream it’s time to move on. Classic is always better and will ever look dated as soon as trendy elements. Glad to see Volvo move away from the darker roof.
$52,000? I have to believe there are way better values out there, such as the CX5/CX50. No ventilated seats make this a deal breaker in Georgia. Go DAWGS!!
Got a 2023 XC40 B5 for a month. Volvo apps is totally unreliable and unusable. I got a very simple app that can lock, remote start, and show care location. Remote start is all we need. But you don't have help(chat, phone, text, dealer) that can really help when the app does not work. You can't tell if it's the server issue or not. The app is the only way to remote start. Remote start is very important to my wife as she gets up early morning and go to work in freezing weather. And now she's stuck with it not knowing if she can get out with a warm vehicle in the morning. 20+ years without any remote start problem in her cold mornings until having this new car now. Why would Volve not having an option to put the remote start besides the online app??? If remote start is very important to you, that's what the car you want until it can be used reliabily.
On my end, the app works perfectly, but it is a little basic for sure. Yet, it has never failed to work. Additionally, you do have a working phone number you can call for tech support. It's right there in the app.
everyone always assumes you want/need a compact or sub bc you lack the funds for the larger vehicle. often this is not the case; some of us just enjoy driving a smaller vehicle.
For the price of the Ultimate well equipped, I would feel more confident in an Acura RDX (or mid level Lexus NX or even a Sante Fe). Volvos might have the reputation for safety but their build quality and reliability are hit-and-miss.
Where are you hearing this? I think car companies who put safety over everything else is a standout. I've had fri9ends who have had Volvos for over 20 years. Never a problem with them. I think their competitors put out this dialogue.
It's a lesser form of electrification than a full hybrid. The vehicle will never be moving down the road without the engine on but the mild hybrid system still helps with efficiency
Appreciate this video is a yr old but guys, it DOES NOT come with Android Auto. Volvo cars running AAOS don't have Android Auto which is a bad decision by Volvo IMO. AAOS is the Google software that runs the car and it's infotainment system. Android Auto is the software that runs when you connect your Android smartphone to the car. The bad name choices by Google really causes confusion to those who don't know the difference. Volvo has AAOS (Android Automotive Operating System) which has maps but very few apps and only SMS for messaging) Volvo has not got Android Auto. So, no FBook Messenger, no Discord, no WhatsApp, No Telegram, No Signal etc........ limited audio apps etc... Volvo has Apple CarPlay which has a vast amount of apps. Point I am making is the AAOS may look good with integrated Gmaps but it starts and stops there. Ironic with it being an Android based system, you are better off using it in correlation with an Apple phone, not an Android phone. Facepalm if ever there was one. Hopefully AAOS will continue to add apps that are available in standard Android Auto.
Ugh. Not a bad review... but I've owner a 2024 CX40 for 6 months and very disappointed with the electronics and safety systems. Please stop with the unrealistic reviews of theses vehicles. Look into real issues!!
Sorry. Not complaining but I had to turn you off. I couldn’t handle all the “do’s”. We DO have this. We DO have that. We DO have…. Why not just “we have”?
Do not buy this car! OR ANY VOLVO! Not only are the dealerships scam artists (been through two before purchasing. My bad, after dealer #1 attempt at "bait and switch", should've went to BMW.) At 50 miles- oil leak. Oil housing cracked. At 100 mi- intermittent rattle in door. (Sounds like car was dropped off car carrier!)At 8k mi- head rests make a quick noise as if being lowered, though nothing is touched. Seat heating goes on whenever. Of course, nothing can be fixed unless these intermittent things happen in front of a mechanic. LOUD ENGINE, like it is struggling. This is nothing more than an overpriced lawn ornament. Unfortunately, spent my life savings on it due to being the safest car on the road for the price. 4 years old with 10,500 miles. Oh, and under the front plate there was a deep gauge, probable when "button"/screws were installed. Tool slipped. My state doesn't need front plates. It was "shipped in" from MD. Dealer wouldn't fix it... until the oil leak. I guess to calm me down. The paint didn't match. (We're at less than 100 mi at this point) Oh, and FINALLY got an owners manual at that time too. NOT when I repeatedly begged for one. I wanted to sell it immediately... problem.... dealership took their sweet time getting my title. THREE MONTHS. It sat in a pile on a desk. Neighbor got a new car out of state and had his title in 2 weeks. My dealership said "slow mail", finally admitting that it sat in a pile.... even though I call every 2-3 weeks begging for it. THIS COMPANY IS HORRIFIC and UNSCRUPULOUS to deal with. BUYER BEWARE. Yes, I still have the car. The depreciation to sell it and buy new was out of my price range. I used my life savings for this OVERPRICED LAWN ORNAMENT.
Consumer Reports is biased against certain companies and has been proven to be wrong with their reliability scores. Where else did you do your 'research'?
Drive one and look closer. The build quality is obviously superior to the rav4. The RAV4 are cheap toys. The camera doesn’t always show that difference. Also superior safety systems and more sold frame and even details that are hidden.
US Volvos are made in either the EU (mine was assembled in Ghent, Belgium) or they’re made here in the US in South Carolina. China’s market Volvos are made there.

Great review. I’m picking up mine on Monday here in UK. It’s my second XC40. I had one of the first Inscription Pros.

Are you happy with your new Volvo? ;)

Pro and cons of LED, bright but doesn't melt the snow. Especially on the tail lights

Any improvement in the AC noise? It's one of the things I don't like about the xc40 model.
Great review and terrific presentation.
Thank you kindly!
Nice review, thank you. What is the "Arms Dealer" function shown on the centre console display screen?
Thanks! That's just a song that we were playing on the audio system
@@CarConfections OK thanks, never heard that one before.

Great review. Lots of questions answered. 👍👍
Glad it was helpful!
Honestly not bad! At least you know you’re safe driving a Volvo
Wish you would have talked about the regenerative braking. Do you notice having to brake harder when needing to slow down or stop on this vehicle? 🤔
Since this is only a mild hybrid, there is no noticable difference in that regard from the regular fully-gas XC40 of last year
I just got one about 2 weeks ago, I have no idea what regenerative braking is but the first thing I noticed when I got it was that the brakes well aren’t nearly as touchy as I was expecting for a new car and I do find myself having to brake harder

No cargo measurement? Darn
Great, detailed review as always. But $52,000....and no ventilated seats? With a sound reading that is louder than most in this class. No thanks.
Thanks!
And that reading is moderate even. I get 70dB(A) sometimes with 110 km/h on an autobahn with the wind and road noise combined. Yikes.
Hey guys, what happened to your 200 coupon fliers? No coupon space test? Will I have enough room?

Those don’t compete with this. Yes I’ve owned Mazdas. Own a Volvo full body sedan now.
Why the 40 and 60 different? Why can’t you the same vehicle just smaller?
They do that on purpose to differentiate themselves from, say, Audi. Most people like that feature.
