I have been playing mage since the launch of D2R and I prefer the 60/30 distribution as lightning damage can easily be absorbed especially in pub games where there is no strict absorb rule. 30 points in FOH related skills with 1 point in conviction can force your opponent to put on lots of lightning resist/absorb gears and charms (they need 300+ LR) and still keep a healthy hammer damage if they manage to absorb all of your FOH damage. I also distribute skill points based on wearing max DR% gears as that's the setup in most occasions. Griffon's/Arachnid ie max damage setup can only be used against hammerdins and necros. There is also a small tip - replace one pcomb with off aura gc when dueling mage and V/T so your conviction aura has a higher level which can invalidate theirs
I think FoH with the changes are gonna be straight up better than hammers for both pvm and pvp. You also have the option of using holy shock aura instead of conviction which can be great in certain circumstances if you also max out it's synergies. I managed to get the aura ticks to 1-3k damage (not counting the proximity changes) while also having 6k FoH, 125 FCR, 150-155 uncapped ress in hell and 300MF just by playing around in an online calculator. The "secret" is using a 5os scepter with +3 to holy shock and FoH socketed with lightning facets. I used offensive aura skillers instead of combat skillers in my theorycraft since i thought that a 6k FoH would be more than enough for p1, with combat skillers instead the aura does 1-2300 damage and FoH does 7.6k dmg. You need to run infinity on your merc if you plan to use holyshock as your main aura in pvm though, but i honestly think the tradeoff is worth it when your aura is killing monsters in 2-3 pulses on p1. Will be interesting to see what the pvp communities come up with and if they are able to make use of holy shock in some cases or if conviction ends up always being better in pvp settings. EDIT: good point about overstacking resistances in pvp but it should be pretty difficult to overstack a 150 conviction and another 50 from gear if you run a 5os wep and a griffon with facets.

Foh obviously gets the advantage in demon and undead heavy areas, but even then spinning up a patch of hammers will empty a room about as fast as a few fohs and their holy bolts. Pick your poison I guess - autoaim and melt demons/undead, or ruin everything besides the handful of magic immunes. Some people hate the feel of hammers so there's that too.

Hey Cooley, want to discuss about MAGE build, I have an idea about using TEARHAUNCH(+2vigor/5str/5dex/10allres) as alternative boots, mainly to save 3 skill points for defensive tree, also obtain vigor for vigor/charge. I self tested, that we can max out hammer and bless aim, then devote 3 additional points into concentration, In the end, this build will boost our hammer damage by about 250-350. Just want to share with you and see if anyone give any thought about this item in particular
I would always put 1 conv. For my vt that gave -95 alone... You have more skills and even a griffon. I assume like -130+ and that actually hurts most people. Unless you do pride duels with prices etc involed i would say mos people usually dont run 125 stack. Dropping a few skill point into foh or holy shock is totally worth it.. On swap you May use a 4 facet shield and just swap shields quickly while bo. 6700 foh dmg is not to much if you dont pierce res. Most people will use at least a wisp 20%. 6700*0,17*0,25*0,6 = 170 life. But lets say you sacrifice 4 skills into foh or its syntenergi and loose like 400 to 700 damage thats totally worth it. Lets assume u end up at 6k dmg. Lets assume enemy ends up at 50 res after pierce. 6000 * 0,17 *0,5*0,6 = 306. However, lets say enemy land at 0res. 6000 * 0,17 * 0,6 = 612 dmg. And then we check the difference if enemy totally stack it: 6000 * 0,17 * 0,25 * 0,6 = 153.. So you kill 30 life less vs the guys which stacks it all, meanwhile you deal 5-6 times the dmg vs people who struggle to stack it. Not only that people May need to nerf their gear heavy to stack it. They may end up dealing poor damage, lack ar to actually hit u consistent, drop down a ias or fcr breakpoint or simply sacrifice total health and then damage difference is already even out... Also, you should mention a nice 2/20 ammu if they can afford, and a dungo ends up at less res and dr% compared to coa, but you nearly maintain damage, without the fcr ammu you May sacrifice soj or bk for fcr ring, or you swap maras with a rather cheap 2/10fcr ammu with adds. :)

Okay i tried a CTA FOH, and i mostly still just use regular FOH on hammer/hoto side for namelocking (it seals massive to LOW dmg most times without conv!) instead weapon swap. i feel like the pressing W - do a quick or 2-5 FOHs - press W again for tele Hammer etc, its way to slow sometimes bugged and W didnt work, and the Aura takes kinda 2 seconds till it apply on the enemie, so its not even worth to use it, only reason to punish when u stand on the bridge ofc, thats a bit nice when u see they run stash for kinda now reason :P
coooley please answer me this if you can as I'm following this guide. Are you hitting max block (75%) with only a ravenfrost as added dex to your base points? Do you use other items to bump dex higher to hit 75% with one point into HS or when you say "max block" are you meaning "above low block" LMK brother
I still to this day enjoy the gris foh pally for pubs hahaha surprisingly good for pubs when a random hdin hostiles ur group or something hell even a mosaic sin. I always keep 3x sets one with all bers, one with all ums, one with all 5/5 facets an mix an match depending on who ur facing.
Why do you max Vigor instead of putting points in Concentration or other synergy? You said it's for moving faster but you can always use Charge to do that
Vigor also increases hammer damage. The thing with concentration is that it only works when its active, whilst vigor gives a passive bonus to hammer damage. You are going to need your teleport anyway, so you cant really keep concentration active.
You're only doing 20% of the damage that you could do by not using Conc. Just switch to the aura when you cast hammers then regrab the lock with tele. Not difficult.
Because holy bolt increases the holy bolt damage and shock aura increases the lightning damage of FoH. Holy bolt doesnt work in pvp afaik, so the damage bonus to it is useless.
It can handle some of the weaknesses of a pure FoH din, but I'd say it's more made for PvP. In PvM, you'd likely choose one or the other for farming purposes.

The balance for 2.4 is just atrocious, build that didn’t need buffing got buffed and builds like ww with broken skills never got fixed. With stun nerfed it’s basically going to be long ranged caster meta only.

Would like to see that Mara's changed out to an fcr ammy and Bloodfist on the gloves. Wouldn't even need to be an expensive one since you would only be lacking 5 fcr to hit 125 with your Griffon's setup. Bloodfist would allow you to hit 86 fhr with only one fhr sc and would also give a nice life boost. Awesome video as always man. :)

I’m curious to hear your perspective, Ichiwo. From my experience as a pvper, there is no npc- whether it be boss or area, that is more difficult than another person playing their character. The opponent adapts and learns to your stay style that forces you to evolve as a player. It’s the frustration of losing and the satisfaction of overcoming that keeps pvp feeling fresh. What specific part(s) of pvm keep you coming back?
