I have the previous version of this tea kettle. It is, by far, the best tea kettle that I have owned. The dial control is great. Very intuitive and easy to use. The thing is built like a tank. We use it 3-4 times a day and it is still in good shape after a year. I've had cheapo tea kettles (Hamilton, etc) as well as the Kitchen-Aid and Bonavita variable temp tea kettles. They all died (pre-maturely IMHO). Couldn't take the heavy use. People complain about the inner ring of this tea kettle, but it doesn't bother me at all (maybe they fixed that on the newer version - not sure).

Is the glass enclosed on the inside? Or does the water come into direct contact with the metal heating element?

Anyone with this kettle find it leaves the water with a plastic taste? Just got it and this one does. I did the full boil as suggested and also cleaned it with soap and water.
Edit: Sending it back. No amount of cleaning gets rid of the taste. It's got a rubber ring inside the container that could be the issue. It's not a one piece glass carafe. Dial temp adjust interface is pretty annoying as well. Lid opening is a bit too narrow and difficult to get your hand in for cleaning.
I wouldn't suggest this product at all.

I use filtered water for my $100 kettle. I'm sure as hell not going to put tap water in it. I've had it for over a month and it still looks brand new with no build up. I suggest you treat yourself and use filtered water as well.

Oxo should take this technology and redesign their coffee makers. I owned both the small and the larger brewers and while fun to watch the coffee brew , it never got the water hot enough for my tastes.

Nice Review. Would it be possible when reviewing to convert to units that the rest of the world uses? Does anybody really know what 70 oz is as a measurement? (7 cups / 8 cups / 9 cups ?) Say 70- oz or 2 litres. Would be handy with the coffee machine reviews too. Thnx
Yup, I definitely had to do a lot of conversion to understand how this compared to other models. So it holds 60 oz which is 1.77L (7.5 cups), and heats the water between 170F (77C) and 212F (100C).
