Joan Mackenzie reviews You Are Here by David Nicholls

Hello I'm Joan and this book is called You Are Here by David Nicholls. My favourite David Nicholls book has always been One Day but it has been usurped in my affections by this one. It’s the story of a group of people who get together to go for a hike through the Lake District whereby Marnie and Michael are introduced to each other. Marnie’s a book editor she doesn’t get out much and she feels as though life’s passing her by. And Michael is recovering from a pretty bitter separation and learning to live his new lonely single life. This is of course a romance but the development of the relationship is beautifully done. So too is the background of the Lake District itself and the business of walking and the quirky I have to say sometimes less than average hotels they get to stay in along the way. But it is a terrific vignette about two people who are discovering each other and find that they can transform each other’s lives. I loved it.
