For better DPS, 1. look at the rotations and see which skills are never used in the rotation, and don't use those. Use all the rest whenever they are available. 2. Press quickly but let the skills finish activating. If you can let the skills activate but leave no gaps in between skills, it does way more damage. For moving, if you turn on "Action Camera mode" (and there is a hotkey to activate/deactivate this) you will run fast no matter which direction you press. When you do this, running is as fast as dodging, so no need to use a dodge unless you want evasion frames.
A lot of good points and suggestions, I do want to add that there is a point in going to the golem... While a good portion of builds rely more on skill priorities than rotations, getting used to the feel and timing of the most important abilities is one of the best ways to work on the "eyes glued on the skillbar" habit.
Great point. The golem is very useful for both getting your rotation into muscle memory but also practicing any new keybind layouts into muscle memory. Being able to perform your role while keeping eyes on the actual encounter is key to success.
Great video! For me it's all about being comfortable, so I tend to keybind as many things to my mouse as possible (Using a Corsair Scimitar MMO Mouse). The most important tip of this video is the one about damage uptime. This is vital.
Phandrel, thanks for the great content. These are some great tips/ suggestions. Mechanics first! Your dps will really suck if you are downstate or you take out the team due to a failed mechanic. My 2 cents: For keybinds, experiment and then practice. I also tried a 6-button mouse but had similar cramping and mis-hit issues. I finally bought a relatively inexpensive game pad (Razer Nostromo used for ~$40) and bound all major combat, utility and movement skill to it while keeping special action, F and push to talk on my mouse. Huge improvement in raids and WvW.
In ff14 people call it "always be casting". In other words, make sure you're always attacking, even if all you do is making sure that your autos are connecting. That actually helps a ton in gw2 as your autos are actually reasonably strong here. Besides, aside from HTCM most of the strikes/raids in gw2 have very lax enrage timers (compared to ff14 where the enrage timers are incredibly strict in savage/ultimates), and power creep has made a lot of them quite trivial, so resolve the mechanics first, then dps. Using a range spec helps if you're new as well since you are always hitting even when doing mechanics, and unlike some MMOs *cough ff14* in gw2 the melee don't do considerably more damage than the range. Just stay stacked for boons as always.
That would be pretty great indeed, I think I'd stick with the original setup as I've gotten so used to it. But it'd be a great addition, as people can keep everything the same or customize to their liking. I love that suggestion!
Hey Phandrel, good video. I play the game casually for several years and always like to get better or have smoother and enjoyable game and your vids help with that :) Though, could you share your keybinds or your thoughts on keybinds? I changed my keybinds 4 times now... still not satisfied. Not only during combat, but in movement as well (e.g. flying skyscale, using fireball while descending and want to use action key). Thanks, any input would be appreciated :)
Thanks! Yep, it's called "Timers" in the repo and quite handy, especially on encounters such as Sabetha and Dhuum. You can even drag the bars to wherever you want on screen.
I need fractals 97+ but I tried with a exp group and they kicked me before the 2 attempt Sadly I have had no issues supporting til this point, but I guess 11 agony on each piece isn’t enough. Any suggestions?
You should only need 150 Agony total. So having +9 each piece would already overcap you. Was it possibly a CM run? Because they often (not always) tend to look specifically for people who have already cleared the content multiple times. In any case, I'd just look for a new group and make sure both your and their interests align.
You just might have diagnosed the source of that issue :O Haven't played FPS in quite a while, but I'm one of those players who reloads every single time they can.
What overlay are you using that allows you to see the cd of boss skills in the right corner of your screen? Is that part of Arcdps? Blishhud? If so, what setting or module is that?
Yep, that's Blish HUD! It's the "Timers" module. You can drag the bars to wherever you want and even choose to enable them per encounter or per mechanic.
@@phandrelNeat! I tried this recently on a W1-4 clear and it worked just fine! it just might be the tool that I need to give me confidence to attempt Dhuum greens in pugs.

Awesome stuff dude, love the featured HAM content
Can't not feature the greatest guild ever.

I use an Azeron keypad and never have to worry about hitting the wrong key anymore. It also took all the wrist pain away.
That looks interesting! If I ever can I might try one of those.

What would be nice is way to move your weapon skills around like you can your elite skills

@@phandrel I can put a rotation as 1-2-3 swap 1-2-3. Instead of 3-2-5 swap 2-4-3. Would make things much easier.
@@FoulPet Yeah, that'd be a pretty elegant solution. You'd also be able to put certain skills on the same key (thinking of stuns etc).
love ur video, keep it up

Great video as usual Phandrel. Just one question, is that a Blish module you have on top of your minimap indicating the skills timers?

Regarding randomly like pressing the 'R' key, were you a FPS player before?

This. Snow crone mentality ( rotation looney) is only for 5% of players.
I overcame this issue buy using an Xbox controller 😊
Interesting! Was it difficult to set up?
