The one area I wished you had touched on is the value of being verified to prevent identity confusion. As one last bulwark defending against scammers trying to use your identity to further their nefarious purposes.

Yeah that's the entire reason it was implemented! It's not for clout-chasing, it's so people know which account is the real Gordon Ramsey (or whoever) versus the dozens of accounts pretending to be him or parodying him.

You have to give Elon credit, he has done something incredibly impressive. He has made decisions worse for the platform then Tumblr removing adult content. He may have even caused Tumblr to last longer than Twitter. That is seriously impressive ship sinking that hasn't been seen since the war.

I don't think there has ever been an example of company management going as poorly as Elon with Twitter in the history of capitalism. I hope the company dies just so I can laugh at how many billions of dollars will have burned up right in front of him and how nobody will ever trust him with a company again. @@adarshvenkateswaran795 Exactly. Wikipedia requires a good amount of legitimate evidence that X, Y, or Z has any grounding in truth AND is significant enough for a dedicated page. It’s easier to get a mention in an established page, but still requires some type of evidence.

Twitter isn't going to collapse overnight. It's going to tank in stability, lack moderation amd coverage, and struggle to hire people qualified to actually go into and understand the coding of the site itself in order to replace those people who have left
i doubt twitter is really going anywhere. i mean hey, its been a year since you said this. its basically the same with youtube where there is no good alternative, and its comfortable here, so where else would people go? facebook?

There are alternatives. A lot of people use youtube shorts over tiktoks nowadays.
youtube, i think, may be the only irreplacable video sharing platform for a while, though.
The point of verifying an account is to make users aware that it is in fact the official account of a public figure. For “normal” users, no, it makes no sense to be verified. Its a feature that should be used to avoid ID theft or impersonation, not to have bragging rights.
If a platform wants to have a premium subscription service that offers benefits over regular accounts, getting verified shouldn’t be one of them.

This might be the BIGGEST shot in the dark, but my 2 yr old daughter heard your rendition of wheels on the bus at the end of this video and won't stop asking me to replay it for her. Spotify verification kinda makes sense: there's so many artist pages on Spotify that are _intentionally_ not controlled by the artist themselves (cause it's just a music page for someone's music, who might not even be alive anymore!) so it makes sense to have a mark that just means "this artist is actually on Spotify themselves".
The meaning of the mark is pretty different from whatever it means on those other sites.

I wanna mention that Tumblr also has a verification system that has nothing to do with verification but they made their own blue checkmark to make fun of twter. You get 2 for the price of one and you can buy as many as you want. After a while they turn into rainbow colors.

Seeing the base of tumblr make fun of twitter for this, they added to tumblr that you can get a blue checkmark for eight dollars. And you can purchase as many of them as you want. Every once in a while you find a blog with like 10 of them, it’s pretty funny I’ve got to say.
Never send a picture of your ID to anyone. They can use it to pretend to be you while they contact IG, Facebook. Etc. Saying they forgot the password and steal your accounts. Happened to my ex Because she thought she one a raffle on Facebook so she sent the picture of her ID. Now she's been having random people show up at her house looking for the "puppies" they just payed her for. She does not own a dog

ik this is late but tumblr is an honorable mention too. basically, it's a huge meme. they even say that it doesn't ean anything but its so you can Feel Special. there's rainbow versions too.
This was actually useful in regards of the _actual_ value of verification. Twitter has become worthless since the 8$ marks were completely unverified and it's not easy to separate earlier versions that might have had some checks from the new ones. Instagram badge doesn't prove quality content or follower numbers, but even those selling the badges can't bypass the identification. That is important info regarding the likelihood of scammers on the sites. Twitch probably does extra push to badge holders, which is why they curate the process so much. I'm pretty sure Spotify verification is purely for technical copyright and bootleg prevention reasons. I suspect that TH-cam is also mainly for technical reasons regarding stuff like feature rollouts, support etc (I know the support is bad, but probably still better than to those without a badge). Spotify and TH-cam don't need id because their assumption is that the value and identity is specifically built by the content of the account and impersonations of existing celebrities are easy to catch.
