Whats weird is they clearly stated their son/s could be aroused by their sisters. No normal man is attracted to their sister no matter what she wears. So strange. Any crime against a child should NOT have a statute of limitations. It so often takes much longer for crimes concerning minors to come to light because child victims don’t usually have a full understanding of what happened to them.
Violent crimes in general shouldn't have a statute of limitations. It's not like the effects of those crimes just stop because the arbitrary time limit on justice is up
ESPECIALLY CSA, it's also incredibly common for victims to not want to come forward even when they understand what happened until they have backup plans to get out of the household

The principal would make us girls kneel in front of him in the hallway for "skirt checks," and would send us home to change if we were found in violation. Exactly what my parents said to me when I had enough courage to tell them what my much older brother was doing to me "That's just what boys do" I had no-one to turn to this was in the 1960s. But after seeing a dog attack my brother I started bringing the farm dogs in to sleep with me at night.. They became my "Guardian Angel" dogs. They even stayed near me during the day and growled at my brother, it was like they knew! For the rest of my life I can't sleep without a dog by me. The abuse from my brother affected me all my life when I was 50, I finally confronted him face to face and asked him why didn't he say he was sorry? He was an associate pastor at his church and I thought he would by then understand what he'd done. He said "Why should I apologize? God already forgave me why do I need to apologize to you?" (wow...didn't think he would hurt me again) I truly don't think God works like that if you're not sorry to the victim...how can you be forgiven?

Quick correction for you. Arkansas recently changed the law, and lifted the statutes around CSA. As long as the victim has yet to file charges, they can file them as soon as they are ready. Even if they TRIED to file and were told they could not as a kid, they can file now. Hope this helps someone else.

As a person who was sexually abused by her brothers.........it's not nothing! It colours your whole life. I'll be 60 this year and it's taken me most of those years to get to some sort of balanced mental health due to it. In my experience, "family values" have two sides. One, the public face is that of classic "Leave it to Beaver" style sainthood. Two, the real guts of it, is to protect the head(s) of the family to help protect that face and thrive, no matter the abuse that is happening within the family behind closed doors. I was molested by my older brother repeatedly when I was still in the single digits of age. It wasn’t until several years later that I told my parents, and both of them simply told me that “it was years ago,” “you shouldn’t blame him,” and “there’s nothing we can do about it.” My brother only became more aggressive when confronted about it and started threatening me with even worse things. Thank god, he moved out a few months ago and I no longer have to see him but watching this video and seeing what this man did makes me feel physically sick. It breaks my heart thinking about how many families like this and like mine will just cover up and ignore internal abuse all to preserve some “reputation”.

I am ashamed of myself my oldest male cousin had admitted that my now deceased uncle had molested him. I had great memories of my uncle and was angry with my cousin for destroying this "facade " memory. I caught up with my older cousin and I never told him about my anger, he told me about it and he mentioned it to his mother at age 40. I totally support my cousin especially as a man it is expected men are not victims. I understand why people behave harshly towards victims we tend to love the sinner but not the sin. I feel for these girls. I was raped multiple times for a bout a year when I was 6 by an uncle and it took me until I was 28 to finally speak up and say something. I broke the silence because I couldn't take it anymore and I tried to commit suicide two different occasions. I then I realized that what happened to me wasn't my fault....and from that moment I started my journey of getting the help I needed to be ok. I still have my moments but I tried to turn it around for the most part. I don’t find my self being as depressed as I was for 22 years for keeping silent. My dream is to write a book that would help other men that have gone through the same thing because I know it would help them.

The first time I watched The Dugger’s show. Jim Bob creeped me out. I couldn’t watch that show. And didn’t let my three girl’s watch it. I didn’t want them to think that the way. The family believes is normal. I felt as though that the older kids had no childhood. They were used to raise the younger kids. And the family was basically a cult.
it's funny that he thinks his little child molester is so much purer than other troubled teens. They're also terrified of any outside influence because their cult thrives on limiting information and interaction as much as possible. I'm so sorry that happened to you. A similar thing happened to my sister. She was assaulted at 8, and was filmed by an older brother of her attacker. We didn't learn anything until she was about 15, and that was only because the video got out somehow and spread around her school. She had such fuzzy memories about what had happened, but the video told the whole story. I can't believe there's such a short statute of limitations on something like child SA.
@@pash8523 She's recovering. When it happened, my mom pulled her out of school because she was so depressed and messed up from it. We even moved cities and put her in another school, but she's never been able to thrive in an academic setting like she did before this happened. Being around people freaks her out, and eventually she dropped out of high school. I've been encouraging her to take one or two online classes and maybe work towards her GED, which she's been trying to do. All in all she's much better than she was a few years ago. She's stopped self-harming, has a boyfriend, and is much more social. She's even been able to hold down employment. She's made huge steps but it definitely wasn't easy.
Hidden traumatization is a real legitimate thing the brain does with both adult and child victims. The time line of only 3-4 years in most states is incredibly worthless as most children who are traumatized their brains automatically build a wall to protect them in alot of cases. While also not as common with older teens and adults this also happens to them as well. I was SA'd by another male student at his home due to it being same sex I believe this is why police didn't take me seriously when I only had the confidence to tell my parents 3 months after it had occured. He's still out there and from gossip I heard after I had graduated he hurt more people one being his own cousin who reached out to me because people in school would mock me for what he did to me to the point I removed myself and enrolled into a cyber charter school.

One of their childhood friends did an AMA and he told a story about how once, one of the babies peed all over the couch. Jessa, the third eldest girl, went and sat in it. When he asked her if she knew she'd just sat in pee, she replied, "Yes. I did it on purpose because we're not allowed to change our clothes until they get dirty enough." That's how deprived these kids were.

The Agents were guiding him through it, this is easy to see, if you've ever watched even a few other FBI questioning/interrogations, it is not like this.
I spent 10 years in an abusive Christian cult when I was much younger. I escaped with the help of a friend. I know exactly how these people think, and how their beliefs sometimes lead to abusive behavior towards others. When Josh said that the main problem was that he had offended and hurt Jesus, and that mattered more than hurting his wife and children, that was the that was the clue right there. These people truly believe that hurting other people is really no big deal, but hurting Jesus may cause you to go to hell. So they repent to God over and over as they mess up, getting forgiven each time until they do it again and the cycle repeats. In my experience, some of these people put absolutely *no* real effort to try to end their abusive, destructive behavior. They just tell God they are sorry until the next time. I call this behavior "binge sinning" as it literally means they can do whatever they want, be as horrible as possible, knowing that they will always be forgiven in the end. Josh is a classic example of a binge sinner. The people who actually get hurt by their actions are kind of seen as collateral damage, no matter how awful the abuse might have been. A common saying is "the only one whose opinion or feelings matter is God". It's a cult of me, me, me. How you treat other people is always secondary to "getting right with God", which you can do over and over each time you hurt someone. These people are often seriously lacking in empathy as well, and often exhibit a disturbing lack of self awareness. Introspection, trying to truly understand one's actions is somehow seen as "self focused" which you are not supposed to be. They often behave as though, to use the saying, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. I don't think the Josh had the slightest bit of empathy for those poor children used in the child porn he watched, or his own sisters and neither did his parents. The entire focus was just on getting him, personally, right with God again for the time being and looking good for others whose opinions might damage his livelihood and reputation. He knew darn well he would do it again, and that according to his beliefs he always had an "out" afterwards, no matter how many times he repeated the behavior. The fact that he knew he was breaking the law and might get imprisoned was always there on his mind, but again he thought that was secondary to making sure that he repented regularly. Completely selfish thinking perpetuated by a cult that claims to promote morality and goodness.

I had a brother just like this. He was much older than us girls, but I was his target, I was ill a lot and easy to hurt. We grew up on a farm and I used to wonder if that had anything to do with my parents' response to me telling them about my brother. My mother said "Well that's just what boys do, they'd stick it in a post hole if they could!" That's it, no consolation no anything. I knew what he did to me was wrong as young as I was. I told him I would scream if he didn't leave me alone. It may not have worked but he stopped. For the rest of my life I was never alone in a room with my brother, ever, for any reason. Years later after my brother had been appointed a Deacon of his church, I asked him if he felt any guilt about what he did, I'd never approached him about it before. His answer? Nope! God had forgiven him for everything so why would he feel guilty about that? Didn't matter how it affected me. One day though at a family get together I noticed none of his daughters were allowed to kiss him on the cheek, hug him or sit on his lap, they were shooed away. My sister noticed it and asked him why and he said "Just because......" I knew why. So did he.....and so does God.

That's pretty harsh... I hope you never have to experience having one of your children victimize another of your children before you can empathize with a mom who is probably torn and not knowing what to do... striving to please God (who is pure Love itself personified) is nothing to be ashamed of, and if that is how she wants to live her life, that is her business, not ours. As far as her kids, I don't personally agree with how she handled it, not at all... I am just saying to keep in mind that is a very traumatizing and horrible thing for a mom to have to deal with and you never know how you will handle it unless it actually happens to you, which I hope it never does.

The most telling moment for me was when the Duggar mother announced on TV she found out LOTS of families in her church had sons molesting their daughters-- she's RELIEVED! I don’t think I’ve ever gone all in with an opinion before, but I am on this one! Not even in my mind could I ever think of a child as anything BUT a child. I’ve seen some strange things in my years, like a bio-father meeting his real daughter later in life and them getting married! Ok, who am I to judge? But there are lines that not only shouldn’t be crossed, but shouldn’t even exist to cross in one’s mind! I’ve always been childlike and kids loved me, a big clown ya know, but it’s sad that people’s minds are effed up to the extent that they could EVER view a child as anything but! It leaves parents not trusting (and I don’t blame them!) anyone, which is sad because I learned a lot from older folks as a youth. Sadly that is gone, you can’t sit beside the old man across the street while he whittles a toy for you with his knife. Sickness is that, whether of the mind or body, but IMHO looking at a child as anything but is evil. Sicknesses can be treated, but like I said that ‘line’ that we have that we’d never even think about crossing has been crossed by those people. I’m sorry, I do my best not to judge but when you harm children in any way, I believe the worst punishment exists should be given to those ‘people’. It is a sick, sad world. Honestly, it's not a matter of "gotten" and more a matter of "revealed." The Duggars are a deeply patriarchal and sex-negative family, meaning that men get to do whatever they want and the idea of holding hands with a girl is just as bad as molesting your sisters. “The buddy system.” This was done historically, when larger families where more common or needed, but is clearly a terrible idea. The 12 -year-old sister who has to raise the toddler isn’t ready to be a parent/nanny, they are a child themselves. The older sibling also made no choice in deciding to have that new baby, despite having to spend most of their time raising and caring for them.
@Vidalion. My European grandmother came from a huge family. The elder children “kept an eye on (her words)” a younger buddy. She explained it to me as not having much responsibility. Of course, they were all born before available, affordable birth control was available. Women then had little, if any, choice in how many children they had, or if they decided not to have any. It is so wrong, considering when these Duggar children were born, for a husband and wife to have more children than they can physically and financially support. They began looking like an innocent-enough freak show, but there is always an element of darkness to freak shows of all kind.

I would add that I am fine with large families or the “buddy system” in generations past - I agree there was a much different culture and options then - when some needed larger families for the whole family to do better, many kids died of infectious disease etc. But that just isn’t the case now, and large families are from parental choice, not to survive better or lack of options.

Sadly Jim Bob is right, in the ATI/IBLP circles it is very common for this to happen, it did, and does happen to plenty of families he knows and it is treated like no big deal. It happened to mine, and it just was not talked about. My older brother SAed multiple members of the family and when I finally became educated enough (way way older than I should have been) to put a word on it and told my parents, nothing happened as far as I know, but I do know that two more members got SAed after I told my parents.

I would say allowing your children to assist in the raising of their siblings is beneficial as they will learn very important life skills early on , however forcing them to do all the raising is definitely abuse.

Very much agree. I've known a few families like this with 10+ kids, including within my own extended family. All of the children from these families are grown up and have children of their own. Almost all of them have tons of physiological issues related to their upbringing, including excessive needs for attention and narcissistic traits. It's not a healthy way to live because its impossible for the parents to give each child the care and attention they deserve to grow and succeed. They just can't do it, and in turn rely on siblings to raise other siblings. Which brings a whole host of other problems including what we see with Josh.
@@papapetebreen yeah, people get all up in arms about “babies raising babies” when it’s a teen mother, but have no problem with parents forcing their teenage daughters to raise children, with all the inherent risk of them making mistakes because they’re just not psychologically developed enough to be parents, plus the risk of them being resentful of the child they’re being forced to raise, etc.
I was SAed at 8-11. I did not realise what happened until I was 13. I never told anyone until I was 16. With no proof, the police did nothing. The interview was traumatising and I still, to this day, have anxiety at no one believing me or telling me Im exaggerating. I am in my twenties and still need therapy. Much love for the victims, I hope you outlive Josh and spit on his grave.

I'm about to turn 59 and while I've had plenty of therapy, it still affects me to this day. The therapy does make a difference, though. Without it I'd have been dead 30 years ago. Stay strong for yourself and keep up with it. It may still affect me but it doesn't run my life, and I've been able to distance myself from the offender almost entirely.

I learned about that monster just now from the comments. I am not emotionally able to look that case up in details but it feels like that prison for life is not enough punishment for what he did. I am still glad he is looked up!

My older brother was always after me until I moved out at 17. After that he still continued to make inappropriate sexual comments to me or physically hurt me for the next 20 years. Finally I snapped one day when my mom was asking me why I don't text him back ever. I told my parents alot and they chose him and haven't talked to me or their grandchildren since.
A 4+ year old remembers a lot even if it is only a picture memory not words. Sometimes those are the hardest to live with. Not all mothers will listen when the young daughter tries to tell of a problem with an older brother or father. Sometimes only after death and 50 years can peace come.

She told me in our teens years when I asked where her older brother disappeared to, she said her parents sent him away to treatment & wouldn't let him live in the same house as her. Then she told me that he had messed with her in the same way! Deal breaker for her Dad & Mom! I love them for standing up for her & getting him aggressive help, & not just ignore or cover it up! She adored her eldest brother who always protected us!
This family taught their children that women were not as worthy as men and as a result abuse against female members was minimized or ignored completely. I grew up in a family like this, and my brothers routinely abused my sister and me. We learned early if we complained we would be punished. Misogyny is deeply ingrained in family systems.

In my opinion, this would/ could have led him to act out sexually with girls his age, but NOT children. It also seems like a stretch to say he was so severely sheltered and repressed that he would be curious about things of a sexual nature, resulting in his taking advantage of the only girls with whom he would have an opportunity to satisfy his curiosity. Mentally healthy sexually curious teens DO NOT go after adolescents or siblings. His actions have all the hallmarks of him being sexually abused as a child, not being part of a religious group that espouses premarital chastity, even in the weird and extreme ways he was taught.

I was molested and trafficked by my step father from when I was 7 until I was 15. My family tried to defend him and say “that happen to him as well when he was younger” as if that made it better. I was assaulted and trafficked for the majority of my childhood and I would never want to inflict the same kind of pain. I hate how this is normalized and shrugged off. What happen to me really altered my life IMO. 10 years have passed and I’m constantly watching my back, can barely sleep because I’d be abused almost nightly as a child, I have a very strained relationship with my family, and I can’t even afford the therapy I need. JULY 4 2022 UPDATE: I seen the man I refer to as “my abuser”. Apparently he’s working Lyft. I went to Facebook to out him and warn other women/vulnerable people/children to avoid him. The response from that was 1000+ people sharing it in my city and several of his children contacting me with death threats. Not only did their father make my life a living h3ll but now I fear for my safety. I understand they don’t agree with my sentiment and what I experienced but damn telling me they hope I get killed soon was too much. I deactivated my Facebook. Their threats put me in a very bad mindset. They make me feel the same way as I did when I was a child and no one protected me or believed my cries. Thank you everyone for listening and being kind.

My maternal cousin molested and nearly raped me when I was 9 years old. Instead of pressing charges my parents decided that all my cousin needed was a little counseling. So, he “agreed” to get counseling (he never did) in exchange for the charges being dropped. In regards to any other child(ren) my cousin abused after me the blame falls not only on my cousin but on my parents, as well. I used to feel like I was the one who bore a hefty share of the blame because I didn’t protest against my parents’ decision and demand they bury my cousin under the jail. However, I have come to realize that I was just a child and I was deferring to my parents’ wisdom hoping they were doing the right thing. If someone lays a single finger on your child and you do not defend them, protect them, and prosecute their attacker you have irreparably failed as a parent and you do not deserve your child.
I went through something similar with my cousin, he raped me and my brother when we were only 6 and 8. Only got 2 years in prison (10 years later), served one and now him and that side of the family, and his friends, tell people he was tricked into sleeping with a 15 year old girl. I wholeheartedly agree with you about patents, they should get the full weight of the law for not protecting their children. All we wanted was him to stop, his dad actually laughed at my brother.
My heart breaks for you. I was in rehab with a girl who was molested by her brother when she was 9-10 and then molested her cousin when he was 9-10. I don’t remember the exact age but she was somewhere between 13-15 and the family decided to just keep it in the family and work through it together. The parents of the cousin she molested used to come and pick her up and take her out to eat with the cousin she molested. It was horrendous every week to see the expression on her cousins face when he was forced to sit in the backseat with her. It drove us all insane that we had signed NDA’s and couldn’t report anything we heard in rehab to the proper authorities.
I was also abused by a cousin from 7-10 years. Tried to tell and nothing was done. In my late twenties I found out I wasn’t the only one. We took him to court. For the years of rape and abuse he was sentenced to 4 years and served just less than 2. British justice eh? After he got out I was contacted by social services in the area he relocated to asking if I would release my statement to them as there had been further reports of abuse. The world really really sucks sometimes. It is not in any way your fault. I hope you find peace and healing.

Listening to the interview with the agents when they first came to his auto dealership, it’s clear that Josh is confident that he can manipulate and out smart anyone. I was in the homeschool program that was used in this family and met the Duggar's on a couple of different occasions, and this rabbit hole goes way deeper than you can even imagine. It's not difficult to find students of that program. After we all left the cult, online support groups started popping up all over the internet, and that once culminated in a mass shooting as a direct result of this cult. We spent years trying to recover from the abuse we suffered as teenagers there, because a lot us were being molested by various staff members, and if you tried to speak up about it like I did, you were either accused of fornication to the entire staff and sent home in disgrace, or put in solitary confinement until the leadership decided you were rehabilitated. There's so much more I could say, but in a nutshell, Jim and Josh Duggar are just the tip of the iceberg.

The statute of limitations is long expired for me, but having said that, I doubt I could tell them anything they didn't already know about this organization. Several women came forward some years ago for a lawsuit against the man who groomed us. I was contacted to join, but I declined because I didn't want to go through that experience all over again. I didn't want to go through being told I'm a liar trying to hurt a godly man. They lost the case,. and although they did succeed in getting him removed as the president of the organization, when I heard the case had fallen through, my entire world went into a tailspin. I can't even think about it without getting angry. I could not wrap my head around the fact that even after so many women came forward, he still got away with it, just like he always did before. As to the mass shooting, they obviously know about that as well. The day it happened, I attempted to log in to the recovery forum and was greeted with a very bizarre message telling us we couldn't log in because the FBI was working on something related to a mass shooting. I knew the guy because he was constantly all over my posts telling me I needed to stop trying to forgive these people and get some kind of revenge. I never replied to his address his complaints, but I was always kind because I knew we were all in different stages of grief and healing. And even though he was filled to the brim with rage, he was always kind to me, too, since lots of other people just ignored him, hoping he would go away eventually. In a nutshell, he was gay, and In that religious fundamentalist group, that's a cardinal sin. He used to tell me how much he despised his mom for trying to rehabilitate the gay away, forcing him into 'therapy' and all but discarding him entirely when it didn't work. I honestly think he was more angry at his mom than anyone else, but when he asked himself WHY she would do that to him, it always went back to Mr. Gothard and ATIA.. So one day, he walked into a Christian meeting of some kind, and began shooting as many people as he could. He wanted all Christians to pay for his anguish, and he went into it knowing he was going die that day as well. And as to solitary confinement, they called it a "prayer room". You'd get put in there for breaking their ridiculous rules, such as forbidding us to give eye contact to a member of the opposite sex for longer than 3 seconds. Absolutely absurd. Inside the rooms, the door was locked from the outside so we couldn't get out until they let us out. People had tried to break through the glass in the windows by throwing furniture at it, so the room was completely bare, except for a Bible. What furniture it did have was bolted to the floor "for our safety" if you can believe that, and there were cameras installed outside the door so the leadership could see if anyone was trying to escape or have visitors. If anyone tried to open that door, an alarm would go off at the front desk alerting the leadership, as some students were constantly trying to run away. I knew of kids who I'd only seen maybe 3 times during my entire time there because they were never rehabilitated enough to gain the privilege of leaving it.. And there was nothing anyone could do about it, because some of those kids had been court appointed to be there for counseling services in lieu of boys school or girls school, so no one would have believed them anyway.. But looking back, it's still hard to believe they got away with it. If you've never experienced the inside of a religious cult, you have no idea how hopeless it feels. You're powerless to help yourself, much less anyone else. So after I aged out of the program, all I wanted was to move on with my life and forget all of this ever happened.

I was a nurse for years at the facility they believe would’ve “corrupted” him and while he isn’t entirely wrong, how negatively could Josh have impacted the other residents as well? It’s insane that I literally can drive for about 7 minutes and get to their compound from my house. If it’s any consolation at all, the compound is located within a mile of the city’s landfill.
I feel really sorry for the forensic computer analysts and other law enforcement and prosecutors who had to see what was on his computer. That has to take a toll.

Not...view it or anything. But there was so much speculation about the little girl and what state she is in now and if she is ok. I think that I, as a child victim, was hoping that if I researched enough I would find out some information that says she is...ok, now. That wherever she is now she is safe and well taken care of. I wanted to know if she has all the help she needs after what those sickos did to her. I had to pull myself away from that research because I was having nightmares, it got me into a very dark place. I cannot imagine actually WANTING to see it. Just hearing the words set me off and my partner came in to see if I was ok. I will never be done processing what happened to me as a child...the girl in this sick video suffered through so much that, though I am an empathetic person who tries to be a pacifist, I think I would grab a pitchfork with you.

A child's obsession with their parents ' love is heartbreaking when they have parents like this. I have friends who were s/a by their dad and one of the girls still talks to their mom who had blamed them for the monstrous things their dad did. It's why, when people say they don't talk to their parents, I trust it's for a good reason and don't pry.
They abused them too, not necessarily in the same way as their brother, but religious abuse and emotional abuse, yes. What they are going through now and why they choose to remain in contact with their parents, is kinda like Stockholm syndrome, or like what battered women go through and why they continue to go back to their abusers. Jill doesn’t really have a relationship with her parents anymore. Her husband was studying to be an attorney and realized that Jim Bob was basically stealing money that should have gone to his kids and there was a big falling out. Jill has probably changed the most, she has a piercing, wears clothes she wants to wear, enjoys alcoholic drinks, sends her kids to public school. She also has begun going to therapy to help deal with the abuse she endured both from Josh and her parents and starting her healing journey.
To be clear, the "counseling" he went to was a 3-week stay at one of the IBLP and Bill Gothard's mega churches working as his own private construction crew. These sort of fundies protect their own, as long as they're men.
No one deserves "blanket training". I continue to be baffled at how local police can know that a family is blanket training and yet CPS never gets involved as its considered a religious preference. BT is thumping newborns on the head when they clasp down during feeding. Or enticing babies off their blanket with toys then spanking their legs or butt when they crawl off.
My Childhood was FAR from perfect, but the more true crime I watch, the more I feel so thankful for my parents. My dad had his own issues but I knew he would always protect me until his last breath and I am so sorry these girls can't say the same about their own father.

It's not even just his parents to blame. His wife is just as terrible and guilty as he is. She still allows him to be alone with the kids. She still testified on his behalf she still refuses to leave him and she still continues to have children with him. Her parents and her brother have begged her to divorce him and move back in with them with her kids and she refuses every time. And guess what according to the rules of his probation and his wife or mom has to be there to supervise his interaction with the kids. Do you really think either one of them are going to watch him every time he's with the kids? Or do you think they're going to leave him alone with the kids? Because I believe they will leave him alone with the kids especially if he acts offended if they try to follow the terms of probation. They are both terrible people I do not feel bad for his wife. She's just as f****** bad as he is because she refuses to divorce him and continually forces her young children to be around him. No excuse. She isn't a victim she's pure evil just as much as he is. I am so f****** sick of parents getting away scot-free when their partner harms their children. Because guess what all of the Nazis were just doing what they were told too. Does that mean they weren't evil and are not culpable for all the people they murdered? No it doesn't. She's a monster, he's a monster, his parents are monsters, and frankly I believe they all should be executed. Josh isn't going to stop. I'm not saying all faith communities, I'm just the ones that do have an abuse problem it 100% tracks...I've worked with survivors of communities that would beat a son half to death for playing with a doll but would be totally fine with their kids being molested, especially if it's boy on girl, because it's "natural" that men are attracted to women, hell I went to a Catholic school as a kid and just that school community told me it was normal for middle aged men to be into and want to date girls so many times by the time I left grade-school...and these same people go on about saving the children from pedophiles and who all need to be stopped at all costs...I have no bloody idea who they think the pedophiles are or where they actually stopped them but considering they're still defending pedos in jail from their church and saying the grade-school girls "lured" them. Exactly what my parents said to me when I had enough courage to tell them what my much older brother was doing to me "That's just what boys do" I had no-one to turn to this was in the 1960s. But after seeing a dog attack my brother I started bringing the farm dogs in to sleep with me at night.. They became my "Guardian Angel" dogs. They even stayed near me during the day and growled at my brother, it was like they knew!
For the rest of my life I can't sleep without a dog by me. The abuse from my brother affected me all my life when I was 50, I finally confronted him face to face and asked him why didn't he say he was sorry?
He was an associate pastor at his church and I thought he would by then understand what he'd done.
He said "Why should I apologize? God already forgave me why do I need to apologize to you?" (wow...didn't think he would hurt me again) I truly don't think God works like that if you're not sorry to the victim...how can you be forgiven?

Quick correction for you. Arkansas recently changed the law, and lifted the statutes around CSA. As long as the victim has yet to file charges, they can file them as soon as they are ready. Even if they TRIED to file and were told they could not as a kid, they can file now. Hope this helps someone else.

In my experience, "family values" have two sides. One, the public face is that of classic "Leave it to Beaver" style sainthood. Two, the real guts of it, is to protect the head(s) of the family to help protect that face and thrive, no matter the abuse that is happening within the family behind closed doors.
Sorry about what you went through. Find some comfort in the fact that you are not at all alone in having sh^tty people in your kin. I cut all of them out of my life and absolutely everyone who remotely stood by them and still do. And you are right, scars like that on your soul never go away.

I was molested by my older brother repeatedly when I was still in the single digits of age. It wasn’t until several years later that I told my parents, and both of them simply told me that “it was years ago,” “you shouldn’t blame him,” and “there’s nothing we can do about it.” My brother only became more aggressive when confronted about it and started threatening me with even worse things. Thank god, he moved out a few months ago and I no longer have to see him but watching this video and seeing what this man did makes me feel physically sick. It breaks my heart thinking about how many families like this and like mine will just cover up and ignore internal abuse all to preserve some “reputation”.

I am ashamed of myself my oldest male cousin had admitted that my now deceased uncle had molested him. I had great memories of my uncle and was angry with my cousin for destroying this "facade " memory. I caught up with my older cousin and I never told him about my anger, he told me about it and he mentioned it to his mother at age 40. I feel for these girls. I was raped multiple times for a bout a year when I was 6 by an uncle and it took me until I was 28 to finally speak up and say something. I broke the silence because I couldn't take it anymore and I tried to commit suicide two different occasions. I then I realized that what happened to me wasn't my fault....and from that moment I started my journey of getting the help I needed to be ok. I still have my moments but I tried to turn it around for the most part. I don’t find my self being as depressed as I was for 22 years for keeping silent. My dream is to write a book that would help other men that have gone through the same thing because I know it would help them.

It's crazy that Jim Bob didn't want his son to go to a facility designed to rehabilitate him because he thought the other people there would corrupt him yet the thing that ended up getting Josh into real trouble was a friend from church telling him about ways around covenant eyes. The call came from inside the building.
The first time I watched The Dugger’s show. Jim Bob creeped me out. I couldn’t watch that show. And didn’t let my three girl’s watch it. I didn’t want them to think that the way. The family believes is normal. I felt as though that the older kids had no childhood. They were used to raise the younger kids. And the family was basically a cult.
Crazy from an objective standpoint. But par for the course with somebody like Jim Bob.
And look at where he is now. The facility would have been a much better option to prevent ‘corruption’ than prison

We didn't learn anything until she was about 15, and that was only because the video got out somehow and spread around her school. She had such fuzzy memories about what had happened, but the video told the whole story. I can't believe there's such a short statute of limitations on something like child SA.

@@pash8523 She's recovering. When it happened, my mom pulled her out of school because she was so depressed and messed up from it. We even moved cities and put her in another school, but she's never been able to thrive in an academic setting like she did before this happened. Being around people freaks her out, and eventually she dropped out of high school. I've been encouraging her to take one or two online classes and maybe work towards her GED, which she's been trying to do. All in all she's much better than she was a few years ago. She's stopped self-harming, has a boyfriend, and is much more social. She's even been able to hold down employment. She's made huge steps but it definitely wasn't easy.
Hidden traumatization is a real legitimate thing the brain does with both adult and child victims. The time line of only 3-4 years in most states is incredibly worthless as most children who are traumatized their brains automatically build a wall to protect them in alot of cases. While also not as common with older teens and adults this also happens to them as well. I was SA'd by another male student at his home due to it being same sex I believe this is why police didn't take me seriously when I only had the confidence to tell my parents 3 months after it had occured. He's still out there and from gossip I heard after I had graduated he hurt more people one being his own cousin who reached out to me because people in school would mock me for what he did to me to the point I removed myself and enrolled into a cyber charter school.

I spent 10 years in an abusive Christian cult when I was much younger. I escaped with the help of a friend. I know exactly how these people think, and how their beliefs sometimes lead to abusive behavior towards others.
When Josh said that the main problem was that he had offended and hurt Jesus, and that mattered more than hurting his wife and children, that was the that was the clue right there. These people truly believe that hurting other people is really no big deal, but hurting Jesus may cause you to go to hell. So they repent to God over and over as they mess up, getting forgiven each time until they do it again and the cycle repeats. In my experience, some of these people put absolutely *no* real effort to try to end their abusive, destructive behavior. They just tell God they are sorry until the next time. I call this behavior "binge sinning" as it literally means they can do whatever they want, be as horrible as possible, knowing that they will always be forgiven in the end. Josh is a classic example of a binge sinner.
The people who actually get hurt by their actions are kind of seen as collateral damage, no matter how awful the abuse might have been. A common saying is "the only one whose opinion or feelings matter is God".
It's a cult of me, me, me. How you treat other people is always secondary to "getting right with God", which you can do over and over each time you hurt someone. These people are often seriously lacking in empathy as well, and often exhibit a disturbing lack of self awareness. Introspection, trying to truly understand one's actions is somehow seen as "self focused" which you are not supposed to be. They often behave as though, to use the saying, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. I don't think the Josh had the slightest bit of empathy for those poor children used in the child porn he watched, or his own sisters and neither did his parents. The entire focus was just on getting him, personally, right with God again for the time being and looking good for others whose opinions might damage his livelihood and reputation. He knew darn well he would do it again, and that according to his beliefs he always had an "out" afterwards, no matter how many times he repeated the behavior.
The fact that he knew he was breaking the law and might get imprisoned was always there on his mind, but again he thought that was secondary to making sure that he repented regularly. Completely selfish thinking perpetuated by a cult that claims to promote morality and goodness.

I had a brother just like this. He was much older than us girls, but I was his target, I was ill a lot and easy to hurt. We grew up on a farm and I used to wonder if that had anything to do with my parents' response to me telling them about my brother. My mother said "Well that's just what boys do, they'd stick it in a post hole if they could!" That's it, no consolation no anything. I knew what he did to me was wrong as young as I was. I told him I would scream if he didn't leave me alone. It may not have worked but he stopped. For the rest of my life I was never alone in a room with my brother, ever, for any reason.
Years later after my brother had been appointed a Deacon of his church, I asked him if he felt any guilt about what he did, I'd never approached him about it before. His answer? Nope! God had forgiven him for everything so why would he feel guilty about that? Didn't matter how it affected me. One day though at a family get together I noticed none of his daughters were allowed to kiss him on the cheek, hug him or sit on his lap, they were shooed away. My sister noticed it and asked him why and he said "Just because......" I knew why. So did he.....and so does God.

Honestly, it's not a matter of "gotten" and more a matter of "revealed." The Duggars are a deeply patriarchal and sex-negative family, meaning that men get to do whatever they want and the idea of holding hands with a girl is just as bad as molesting your sisters. Men are important and in charge, and transgressions occur but need to be forgiven. Since molesting your sister isn't any worse than other ways of transgression, it gets to slide by.

Very much agree. I've known a few families like this with 10+ kids, including within my own extended family. All of the children from these families are grown up and have children of their own. Almost all of them have tons of physiological issues related to their upbringing, including excessive needs for attention and narcissistic traits. It's not a healthy way to live because its impossible for the parents to give each child the care and attention they deserve to grow and succeed. They just can't do it, and in turn rely on siblings to raise other siblings. Which brings a whole host of other problems including what we see with Josh.

I'm about to turn 59 and while I've had plenty of therapy, it still affects me to this day. The therapy does make a difference, though. Without it I'd have been dead 30 years ago. Stay strong for yourself and keep up with it. It may still affect me but it doesn't run my life, and I've been able to distance myself from the offender almost entirely.

I grew up Catholic, my best friend Baptist. She told me in our teens years when I asked where her older brother disappeared to, she said her parents sent him away to treatment & wouldn't let him live in the same house as her. Then she told me that he had messed with her in the same way! Deal breaker for her Dad & Mom! I love them for standing up for her & getting him aggressive help, & not just ignore or cover it up! She adored her eldest brother who always protected us!

i think the way josh was sheltered only enhanced his perversions. he’s not allowed to see women dance or see them in revealing clothes. not allowed to kiss a girl or even hold hands. only allowed to give side hugs. they made all of these things seem sexual when none of them are. they made things so taboo in that family that i find it hard to believe that those rules didn’t contribute.

In my opinion, this would/ could have led him to act out sexually with girls his age, but NOT children. It also seems like a stretch to say he was so severely sheltered and repressed that he would be curious about things of a sexual nature, resulting in his taking advantage of the only girls with whom he would have an opportunity to satisfy his curiosity. Mentally healthy sexually curious teens DO NOT go after adolescents or siblings. His actions have all the hallmarks of him being sexually abused as a child, not being part of a religious group that espouses premarital chastity, even in the weird and extreme ways he was taught.
You shouldn't flaut yourself.. regardless of what you believe. And I don't have religion. I simply live and I'd never show my breast and bum because "sex isn't bad". Sex isn't bad and that's the only fact here . Women shouldn't show to much out of respect for themselves. The issue is , he wasn't caught sooner and he wasn't because from the very start the parents refused to truly address the issue , fail to protect their daughters and then finally constantly defend their son because they were famous and a spectical to the world. I was molested and trafficked by my step father from when I was 7 until I was 15. My family tried to defend him and say “that happen to him as well when he was younger” as if that made it better.
I was assaulted and trafficked for the majority of my childhood and I would never want to inflict the same kind of pain. I hate how this is normalized and shrugged off.
Edit: thank you everyone for your kind words. What happen to me really altered my life IMO. 10 years have passed and I’m constantly watching my back, can barely sleep because I’d be abused almost nightly as a child, I have a very strained relationship with my family, and I can’t even afford the therapy I need.
JULY 4 2022 UPDATE: I seen the man I refer to as “my abuser”. Apparently he’s working Lyft. I went to Facebook to out him and warn other women/vulnerable people/children to avoid him. The response from that was 1000+ people sharing it in my city and several of his children contacting me with death threats. Not only did their father make my life a living h3ll but now I fear for my safety. I understand they don’t agree with my sentiment and what I experienced but damn telling me they hope I get killed soon was too much. I deactivated my Facebook. Their threats put me in a very bad mindset. They make me feel the same way as I did when I was a child and no one protected me or believed my cries. Thank you everyone for listening and being kind.

Seems to me that the "elders" and everyone that knew about the situation should be charged as accomplices.
My maternal cousin molested and nearly raped me when I was 9 years old. Instead of pressing charges my parents decided that all my cousin needed was a little counseling. So, he “agreed” to get counseling (he never did) in exchange for the charges being dropped. In regards to any other child(ren) my cousin abused after me the blame falls not only on my cousin but on my parents, as well. I used to feel like I was the one who bore a hefty share of the blame because I didn’t protest against my parents’ decision and demand they bury my cousin under the jail. However, I have come to realize that I was just a child and I was deferring to my parents’ wisdom hoping they were doing the right thing. If someone lays a single finger on your child and you do not defend them, protect them, and prosecute their attacker you have irreparably failed as a parent and you do not deserve your child.
I went through something similar with my cousin, he raped me and my brother when we were only 6 and 8. Only got 2 years in prison (10 years later), served one and now him and that side of the family, and his friends, tell people he was tricked into sleeping with a 15 year old girl. I wholeheartedly agree with you about patents, they should get the full weight of the law for not protecting their children. All we wanted was him to stop, his dad actually laughed at my brother.

My heart breaks for you. I was in rehab with a girl who was molested by her brother when she was 9-10 and then molested her cousin when he was 9-10. I don’t remember the exact age but she was somewhere between 13-15 and the family decided to just keep it in the family and work through it together. The parents of the cousin she molested used to come and pick her up and take her out to eat with the cousin she molested. It was horrendous every week to see the expression on her cousins face when he was forced to sit in the backseat with her. It drove us all insane that we had signed NDA’s and couldn’t report anything we heard in rehab to the proper authorities.
I was also abused by a cousin from 7-10 years. Tried to tell and nothing was done. In my late twenties I found out I wasn’t the only one. We took him to court. For the years of rape and abuse he was sentenced to 4 years and served just less than 2. British justice eh? After he got out I was contacted by social services in the area he relocated to asking if I would release my statement to them as there had been further reports of abuse. The world really really sucks sometimes. It is not in any way your fault. I hope you find peace and healing.

Listening to the interview with the agents when they first came to his auto dealership, it’s clear that Josh is confident that he can manipulate and out smart anyone. He’s supremely confident in his ability to talk his way out of anything. He was ultimately wrong about that.

While he was overly confident, you can hear the fear in his voice. He knew what was coming.
I was in the homeschool program that was used in this family and met the Duggar's on a couple of different occasions, and this rabbit hole goes way deeper than you can even imagine. It's not difficult to find students of that program. After we all left the cult, online support groups started popping up all over the internet, and that once culminated in a mass shooting as a direct result of this cult. We spent years trying to recover from the abuse we suffered as teenagers there, because a lot us were being molested by various staff members, and if you tried to speak up about it like I did, you were either accused of fornication to the entire staff and sent home in disgrace, or put in solitary confinement until the leadership decided you were rehabilitated.
There's so much more I could say, but in a nutshell, Jim and Josh Duggar are just the tip of the iceberg.

@@frankG335 It's far too late for that. I was 16 when I was being molested, and I'm 44 now. The statute of limitations is long expired for me, but having said that, I doubt I could tell them anything they didn't already know about this organization.
Several women came forward some years ago for a lawsuit against the man who groomed us. I was contacted to join, but I declined because I didn't want to go through that experience all over again. I didn't want to go through being told I'm a liar trying to hurt a godly man.
They lost the case,. and although they did succeed in getting him removed as the president of the organization, when I heard the case had fallen through, my entire world went into a tailspin. I can't even think about it without getting angry. I could not wrap my head around the fact that even after so many women came forward, he still got away with it, just like he always did before.
As to the mass shooting, they obviously know about that as well. The day it happened, I attempted to log in to the recovery forum and was greeted with a very bizarre message telling us we couldn't log in because the FBI was working on something related to a mass shooting.
I knew the guy because he was constantly all over my posts telling me I needed to stop trying to forgive these people and get some kind of revenge. I never replied to his address his complaints, but I was always kind because I knew we were all in different stages of grief and healing. And even though he was filled to the brim with rage, he was always kind to me, too, since lots of other people just ignored him, hoping he would go away eventually.
In a nutshell, he was gay, and In that religious fundamentalist group, that's a cardinal sin. He used to tell me how much he despised his mom for trying to rehabilitate the gay away, forcing him into 'therapy' and all but discarding him entirely when it didn't work.
I honestly think he was more angry at his mom than anyone else, but when he asked himself WHY she would do that to him, it always went back to Mr. Gothard and ATIA.. So one day, he walked into a Christian meeting of some kind, and began shooting as many people as he could. He wanted all Christians to pay for his anguish, and he went into it knowing he was going die that day as well.
And as to solitary confinement, they called it a "prayer room". You'd get put in there for breaking their ridiculous rules, such as forbidding us to give eye contact to a member of the opposite sex for longer than 3 seconds. Absolutely absurd.
Inside the rooms, the door was locked from the outside so we couldn't get out until they let us out. People had tried to break through the glass in the windows by throwing furniture at it, so the room was completely bare, except for a Bible. What furniture it did have was bolted to the floor "for our safety" if you can believe that, and there were cameras installed outside the door so the leadership could see if anyone was trying to escape or have visitors. If anyone tried to open that door, an alarm would go off at the front desk alerting the leadership, as some students were constantly trying to run away.
I knew of kids who I'd only seen maybe 3 times during my entire time there because they were never rehabilitated enough to gain the privilege of leaving it.. And there was nothing anyone could do about it, because some of those kids had been court appointed to be there for counseling services in lieu of boys school or girls school, so no one would have believed them anyway.. But looking back, it's still hard to believe they got away with it.
If you've never experienced the inside of a religious cult, you have no idea how hopeless it feels. You're powerless to help yourself, much less anyone else. So after I aged out of the program, all I wanted was to move on with my life and forget all of this ever happened.

I was a nurse for years at the facility they believe would’ve “corrupted” him and while he isn’t entirely wrong, how negatively could Josh have impacted the other residents as well? It’s insane that I literally can drive for about 7 minutes and get to their compound from my house. If it’s any consolation at all, the compound is located within a mile of the city’s landfill.
I feel really sorry for the forensic computer analysts and other law enforcement and prosecutors who had to see what was on his computer. That has to take a toll.

Not...view it or anything. But there was so much speculation about the little girl and what state she is in now and if she is ok. I think that I, as a child victim, was hoping that if I researched enough I would find out some information that says she is...ok, now. That wherever she is now she is safe and well taken care of. I wanted to know if she has all the help she needs after what those sickos did to her. I had to pull myself away from that research because I was having nightmares, it got me into a very dark place.
I cannot imagine actually WANTING to see it. Just hearing the words set me off and my partner came in to see if I was ok.

A child's obsession with their parents ' love is heartbreaking when they have parents like this. I have friends who were s/a by their dad and one of the girls still talks to their mom who had blamed them for the monstrous things their dad did. It's why, when people say they don't talk to their parents, I trust it's for a good reason and don't pry.
They abused them too, not necessarily in the same way as their brother, but religious abuse and emotional abuse, yes. What they are going through now and why they choose to remain in contact with their parents, is kinda like Stockholm syndrome, or like what battered women go through and why they continue to go back to their abusers. I really hope they realize that it’s healthier for them that they sever “the ties that bind”
Jill doesn’t really have a relationship with her parents anymore. Her husband was studying to be an attorney and realized that Jim Bob was basically stealing money that should have gone to his kids and there was a big falling out. Jill has probably changed the most, she has a piercing, wears clothes she wants to wear, enjoys alcoholic drinks, sends her kids to public school. She also has begun going to therapy to help deal with the abuse she endured both from Josh and her parents and starting her healing journey.
To be clear, the "counseling" he went to was a 3-week stay at one of the IBLP and Bill Gothard's mega churches working as his own private construction crew. These sort of fundies protect their own, as long as they're men.
Even before all of the sexual abuse stuff came out my heart has always hurt for those older girls. They did not deserve all of that responsibility💔
No one deserves "blanket training". I continue to be baffled at how local police can know that a family is blanket training and yet CPS never gets involved as its considered a religious preference. It's not even just his parents to blame. His wife is just as terrible and guilty as he is. She still allows him to be alone with the kids. She still testified on his behalf she still refuses to leave him and she still continues to have children with him. Her parents and her brother have begged her to divorce him and move back in with them with her kids and she refuses every time. And guess what according to the rules of his probation and his wife or mom has to be there to supervise his interaction with the kids. Do you really think either one of them are going to watch him every time he's with the kids? Or do you think they're going to leave him alone with the kids? Because I believe they will leave him alone with the kids especially if he acts offended if they try to follow the terms of probation. They are both terrible people I do not feel bad for his wife. She's just as f****** bad as he is because she refuses to divorce him and continually forces her young children to be around him. No excuse. She isn't a victim she's pure evil just as much as he is. I am so f****** sick of parents getting away scot-free when their partner harms their children. Because guess what all of the Nazis were just doing what they were told too. Does that mean they weren't evil and are not culpable for all the people they murdered? No it doesn't. She's a monster, he's a monster, his parents are monsters, and frankly I believe they all should be executed. Josh isn't going to stop. He's a repeat offender even after having his life blown up he continues to do s*** like this. He can't be rehabilitated.

She's never held a job other than S.A.H.M. so it's not like she can find a good paying job. No college or trade school for her, just marriage and baby making. That's why a lot of women won't leave bad situations. They're worried about their (and their kids') lifestyle dropping way down.
