You don't put any dirt on it at all to start off that clean jazz tone, then you roll off on the trouble a bit (I keep it at 2 even when playing blues), Push up the mid and put the bass right under the mid. (So my mid is at about 8 and my bass is around 7.5) It gives me really good cleans with my tele and even some good over driven tones when playing blues. And yes, jazz swings unless its bebop.
