Dom also fall in the list of most realistic video games characters because of how much he has lost, and he shows it like in this scene. I believe there's a note saying that he could be suffering for how much he has lost especially with the death of Maria. The note should be in the first area of GOW3 if I remember correctly.
Whe Dom put his cog around the statue, most of my friends thought he was coming to terms with Maria' death. I on the other hand, got that sinking gut feeling that he was going to die very soon. I have never been more upset to be proven right.
I think it was just his way of leaving himself with her, then he started giving away his knife to Marcus He was probably waiting for the right moment for a way out
I believe Dom really died here. This scene is very powerful and sad. It seemed to me Dom had a quest to fulfill - save his wife and children. However with that gone he feels his last mission is to make sure his friends live. I believe that's why he sacrificed himself, because in that moment it's what he wanted most. To save Marcus and his friends/family. Maybe because he didn't have a chance to save his wife and children.
Gears of War has more emotional moments thany other military shooter game. It doesn't glorify war, instead it focuses on how it affects the characters who have been or fought in this.
Depends on what you mean by "emotional". If you mean "makes you feel a strong emotion" then no, I would say Halo and Mass Effect have more. If you mean specifically sad moments then I would say GOW has the best ones, regardless of quantity

Dom is just one of the worst emamples of what a lot of those people went through in the war. None of the characters ever caught a break and Dom got the worst treatment in terms of tragedy, litterly losing everything for no reason other than the Locus wanting to kill everyone.

You get the feeling Dom is/was torn between the love for his friend (Marcus) and a feeling of responsibility and brotherhood to be by his side always, and the true love in his heart for Maria and their kids. Never expected this to touch me the way it did. I must say, this cinematic, the one for 'Dom's Final Decision' and the 'Cole Train' where Augustus is thinking back and reliving the days when he was just a Thrashball player, really impressed me. Wonderful story. Wonderful game.

Gears Of War is truly the most emotional game I have ever played in my entire life. This is the only game that ever brought me to tears, so did the second one when Dom finally seen his wife again. The developers did an outstanding job on this game. I still cry everytime I watch this scene and the seen when Dom ends his life. R.I.P Dom Santiago :(

As much as I wanted Dom to live, I was kinda glad in a strange way he died. I mean he went out like a hero and saved many lives, sure he could have done a lot more later but he got the one thing back that he fought for: His family. The death of Dom is the perfect example of what a true hero is, not someone who looks for glory but fights for their home when there is nobody to defend.

There is a cool Easter egg in gears 5 where if you find all memory pieces or "things" of each hero and go to the "remember the heroes" wall, they actually took a line from this clip. It really hit me right in the feels.
Dom just didn't want to live anymore. It's evident in the trailer where he's knocked down and is about to get shot by the enemy and he just simply closes his eyes and almost smiles until he's saved by Marcus. He saved Marcus and finally resigned to his fate. I think you can all appreciate that.
When I first played this with my friends, one of the, pointed out that COGs taking their tags off it’s pretty much bad luck, and even more that Marcus collected the tags of all his fallen friends, except Dom
I don't care what people say about graphics not being important in a game; that close up on his face, showing his eyes... That's the most powerful and emotional part of this scene.
Dom's wife dying was the saddest for me cuz you came so far to save her and you have to end it all, but from then on I knew the series was going to get better. In the third with Dom and the music it just made me lose it cuz I could not believe he was not going to complete the journey with Marcus like he had the other times, and Marcus' was the 3rd saddest, but nonetheless a tear jerker. I just couldn't believe how much they all had to lose, but this game is everything a game should be!

After GOW3 I stopped playing the franchise as I felt that I wouldn't be emotionally attached to the game as I was with GOW1,2,3. I loved the characters and the script, music, , story, voice overs had me hooked. I felt that the prequel would ruin that and I wouldn't be fond of younger or new characters. Am I just being paranoid? Am I living in fear? Would playing the games released after GOW3 leave me disappointed? Karen Travis worked on them right so they must be good? If anyone can give me some advise on how the games were after the 3rd that would be appreciated. Do you think they gel as good as the story with the trilogy?

I had the feeling of him to be near to dye, because the put over the statue his gear tag, and Maria's earring, i felt it like a symbolic thing. Mentally being there for dom was too much, he wouldn' live with that pain forever, but he would dye in style and bringing with him more maggots possible.

gow4 is sadly the worst imo, new kid is just ballsy and annoying and looks nothing like marcus or anya, he just looks like some shitty bland hollywood movie fighting film character

@xKjcc I almost cried! I felt the water in my eyes when Dom died. Now, I almost cried at this part. Its very emotional. Thanks for this comment. I think you brought alone a big point to others.
I had the feeling of him to be near to dye, because the put over the statue his gear tag, and Maria's earring, i felt it like a symbolic thing.
Mentally being there for dom was too much, he wouldn' live with that pain forever, but he would dye in style and bringing with him more maggots possible.
i am a grown man i and i have to admit this was a pretty touching scene seeing dom die. dom was a cool character in the gears series if they make anymore it wont be the same
The second he put his tags on the statue I knew he wasn't going to be around much longer, cuz when a Gear dies, their tags are taken from them. Foreshadowing ftw. Still can't believe he died.. :(
