    I’ll never forget watching my mother cry her eyes out when this happened. I was 8 years old, I grew up a mixed child (black and white) in a republican county in Wisconsin. My mother endured a lot of bs growing up for the color of her skin, that night was a true personal triumph for her and as a young kid I felt it.

      McCain also asked George W. Bush to give a eulogy - the other man who had defeated him in an election, the Republican primary of 2000. I believe McCain wanted to send a message that it was possible to respect each other even when we disagree, that political contests within a democracy should not need to make us enemies.

    I remeber PResident Obama being elected. I was to naive at the time to understand the significance. I'm so happy this man was President. My sister struggles with depression, if not for Medicaid, I'm not sure how she would've gotten the medication she needed. Thank you, President Obama, for helping my sister.

    I'm swedish but i remember this night. Me and a couple of friends sat up during the night and followed the election night. We saw the result, we listen to Obamas speech. I still remember the walk home. It was cold, really cold. But I felt a warmth in my chest. Like anything was possible. The following 18 years has shown me something else, a divided world and that we've not come as far as we want to believe.
    But that night In November of 2008 I'll never forget. And I won't stop chasing that feeling until I'm dead.

    I have lost count of how many times I have watch this, I remember this night so vividly, it is the greatest Presidential speech of my life time. When he says the word gay and it was the first time a president till this point had said it, I think my soul left my body. I felt seen. We can get there again, we can be brothers and sisters again.

      Absolutely it was such a pivotal time. As a new graduate nurse I remember not getting hired due to hiring freeze & people losing jobs during this time. I didn’t get hired until Fall 2009.

    I vividly remember when this happened I was 9 the first time, and 13 the second time and it was such an exciting moment watching this history be made alongside my dad and my dear grandpa🩵 Now, being 25 I came back to re-watch his beautifully spoken and inspiring speech. 💙 & yes I have been an active voter using my right and voice! So disappointed at the recent outcomes, but as Ms. Harris said, keep fighting💙
