when explaining the resist auras raising the max resists, you forgot to also mention that its a 1:1 ratio when you have the aura active. so 10 points in, you will raise the max by 5% passively, but 10% when you have the aura active.

It took me about 10 years of playing the game to ID a 20/20 anni, and I happened to get a 20/20/5 and a 20/20/8 within 4 anni's... Unreal, sometimes you just get lucky. You missed out a lot of explanation here. Smite hits every time and is not dependable on attack rating, that is the reason why we use it. +damage from weapon goes into smite, but +ed does not. That's why Grief is high-end gear for a smiter, even though you may have to pass on 100%cb. Higher absolute damage (that doesn't come from cb) will let you kill and regenerate faster. Also, you can zeal with Grief. With zeal, it's a lot faster to kill small units. Life leech doesn't work with Smite and never works on Mephisto, that's why lifetap is unavoidable. A cheap example gear looks like this: Black, Gully, Herold of Zakarum, Goblin Toe, Raven Frost, Draculs and the best cheap armor is treachery because of Fade and ias (don't waste time with buffing, just wear it all the time). Belt, ring, whatever. And Akara sells lifetap-sticks. You can get good gear for an utrist smiter for an ist rune. Or you can build it yourself. Why didn't you show that in your video? I love seeing your runs. You are very nice and the best player I have ever seen. But your tutorials don't have the same standards.
Damage is irrelevant. All your damage is crushing blow anyways. I was going to say that everything in ubers has a billion hp but i think its a lot more than that. If you increase smite damage you'll just kill them in one or two fewer hits. Not worth the investment IMO. Its purely the % based damage from crushing blow they have way too many hp. Using grief is just a waste. Its high end as in expensive not high end as in any better. I really don't see what is good about it. Its great for a general purpose smiter maybe (yuck) but its not useful for ubers really. Maybe marginally useful. Maybe i'm overrating rune costs but back in the day my entire set of gear on my smiter cost much less than a LO.
His "build videos" have always been lacking. He's not good at explaining progression, gear choices as you level to final build/gear set ups. He's here to entertain.
This is terrible. Unless Guardian Angel has been changed that is the keys to Ubers. Gives you 90% resist all and 90% shield block max. I cleared Ubers on bnet back in the day with a much cheaper setup at much lower level. One trick is to wear treachery and stand in the fire on the right side till fade procs then put GA back on. There was some ghetto lifetap from boots? I used that. Cheaper. First to market ;)

When they first introduced the torch drop I remember playing quite a bit. I would run a smite build to help people get their torches. For Meph's conviction aura, i stacked my lightning resist up to a total of i believe 310%. that kept me at max resist even with his aura (that offset the hell reduction / aura). I had torch/anni and mara's amulet and a had a ton of small charms all with resist and +20 life. my inventory was completely filled, but I mainly used that pally to just kill ubers and that was it. Didn't realize you could do a budget smiter - i was decked out with the best of the best of items i could find. Great video! I know what i need to farm up so i can start doing this again
mate , equip full griswold's set + dracul's gloves on a smiter and + UM's or Diamond Pgem , in armor and shield and u will make easy uber's alone , u can start with mefisto :) after he stack tap life , u never die alone ...
8:35 - very cheap and still great option is Eth Prudence. I made it in Eth AP, got over 3k defence + over 30@ res, super cheap and paired with Exile I have got 35k overall defence.
you can pierce uber meth confiction aura by just having a stronger aura than lvl 20 (that is his level). there is always only one conviction aura per area. so you just purge his

Enigma or guardian angel are also super great for a smiter. I've never been THAT desperate for res that I needed coh over enigma, and life without tele is no life at all
Easy UT-absorber. Guillaume (um), rising sun, any 20+ ias pb (crescent or even steel does the job, ofc grief makes it faster), treachery for meph and precast/shaft for lilith, zak (pTopaz) or spirit ~30+, dracs, ravens, tgods, goblin, tp/lt swap. That's it. No need for coh or exile. Smite, hs - max, conv 21+ (just make sure u turn it on before meeting meph), opt medi 1 for baal mana drain, some fana, LRes 20 if u wish to absorb all meph's charges dmg. In fact pvm smiter is useless except for bosses or party buff/debuff, so it can focus on some special features most other builds sacrifice.
The only thing I'd add is a luxury Enigma, if you can afford it. Nothing makes getting organs easier than a Breast Plate Enigma for that teleport farming. Of course swap it out for CoH when actually fighting. Also if you have a CTA with a Spirit on swap, using that as you teleport will help as you will have a higher FCR.
guardian angel is really good on a smiter aswell.. all the block and 15% max res in all 4.. and a ton of armor, means you can swap skills around to have more defence from holy shield aswell, not that its really needed
I don t understand why you all so obsessed with perfect torches and perfect Annihilius. You did beat the game anyway. Why you need 20/20 torches? Diablo 2 is just a grinding simulator.
The only problem with Pandemonium is farming Niha if u don’t have Nature’s Peace (ok ok i know “somebody” has Tyrael 😉): with Lawbringer and without merc it’s a long way. Whenever you are inside Pandemonium there is nothing that CB can’t do. I “oneshoted” Izual inside a pack with Zeal: i hadn’t the time to switch to Smite.
Highlords Wrath looks good, but I wouldn't recommend it on the Smiter. The Highlord's wrath gives you Deadly Strike, Deadly Strike doesn't work with Smite. Smite only works with Crushing Blow and Open Wounds. so I'd Probably go with the Mara's.
Very true, but getting your extra resists from Mara's does open up other options in your gear (since less of your other gear will have to be focused on resists), meaning you can get your IAS on other pieces if need be. (including Jeweling in IAS in places that would otherwise need resists, or simply needing less resist charms, so you can fit in other useful charms).
I thought you said in another video that Crushing Blow on Weapons won't stack with Smite, as it's isolated to the weapon attack only - so why recommend the Black runeword, for instance? Could you clarify?
One question, i'm using different amulet: highlords wrath; Belt: nosferatus coil, vampire fang belt; Glove: laying of hands, bramble mitts what i would have and change?
instead of 16points combined into Lite Res/Cold Res you can just put them into Conviction, sacrifice 4points of another skill and just negate his aura and you can use all different gear than what you're using and do it easier. fyi GoreRiders>GobToes becuase crushing blow is current hp so it doesn't actually kill them, Deadly Strike is just double dmg and will kill faster past 50%max HP.

How i do Ubers - Zeal MAX , Sacrifice Max, Holy Shiled max, Fanaticism max, rest on defiance. I use Grief, Exile, Gface, Frotitude, Raven and BK, String of ears,Dracs,Highlord,Goreriders and ofc cta with spirit in offhand.Torch and anni and attack rating,life and dmg charms.Merc is A2 might with Gface,Reaper eth,Duress.I do lesser ubers with zeal and trist on smite.1 point there is ok i do like 1.7k smite. Pretty fun build.I do trist on smite only cause of the single target thing, zeal constantly change targets and cant leech so quick.
I prefer LastWishpb along with 20ias 10cb gloves. u get the lifetap proc as well from last wish. also fade. and u get might aura as well as 60-70 crushing blow. i prefer even bottom of the barrel roll last wish over grief. but thats just my roll on it :D
Bob Smith grief is relatively cheap to make but if you roll a 39/399 or above, it’s worth a lot but it’s more useful than valuable. The damage output from grief is basically broken.
man I had a geared out smiter back in the day. I took a couple month break and all my characters expired. RIP. i can't remember my account info anymore either. I read that as long as no one made a new character with one of the expired characters names that you can 'reactivate it' but since I can't even remember my account name anymore im SOL.
I run a strange build but i have never even come close to dying on uber runs. Upd umd hoz, perf umd kiras, enigma ( treachery to prebuff fade ) last wish phase blade, upd g toes, dracs or 20 ias cb gloves, t gods, wisp, raven, highlords, random cta and pal spirit for swap, no torch ( so i can sell then unid without needing other characters ) and a random anni.

Some things that would have been useful to have explained: - How lightning absorb works (I believe it reduces the amount of damage and then gives it back in health? so 20 absorb = 20% less damage and 20% heal too? could be wrong, but that's why an explanation would be good) - Socket choice for helm (I'm running cham for no freeze, which means I can swap the raven out for another wisp or a soj... don't see the point in anything else as life steal is redundant with life tap.. Manald may even be a good choice to help with the mana issues) - How dependant the build is on crushing blow. You show the items, but goodness me this build would not work very well without it Other than the above, think this is a very solid build, love playing it and ubers are a breeze. I'm running with 2k HP, 16.3k def and 95 light res because of this build. Any reason you pump up your cold res before fire? Thanks once again.
@@rileydinkleman1022 Conviction aura lvl >20 on your smiter will overrun mephs lvl 20 conviction so you dont get the -130res. If you play budged this is a cheap way to get enough res vs meph. but you have to spend skill points in conv to get it lvl 21
salvation is the way there, a single point is more than enough to keep rez at max against mephisto, as opposed to 10+ points before conviction will help
I'm actually doing this right now. I just beat NM Baal at lv70. Still using a Knell Striker I found in Act 1 Normal haha. Sporting Duriel's Shell, Tiamat's Rebuke, Tearhaunch, Tal Rasha's Belt (dmg to mana seems to help a lot vs mana burn), Geehomie's Face, Seracen's Chance, Dwarf Star, Nagelring, and some IAS gloves. It's a little slow going, but I let my merc (act 2 might) do most of the non-boss/named fighting. When it gets tough I use hit-and-run tactics and try to inch forward so only a handful of monsters get activated. Group fighting can be rough but 1v1'ing anything is a joke.
Best starter imo in the sorc for easy mf and then work on paladin and stuff when you get the gear you need to start with and trade from there to get a great pally
would you guys say this is the safest build to solo ubers on hardcore? he still got one shotted once.. maybe because it was players3 or something? but still he had barb bo + oak sage so yeh, im confused
Just got my first torch ever on singleplayer, 14-20 zon, wish it was Pala or Sorc since those are my only chars, but il be making a zon someday anyway, and its still usefull for stacking res on future torch runs. Was alot easyer then expected though. Only gear different from yours is black runeword (dont have a phase blade for grief yet, and need a mal too -.-), zaka, no wisp so used dwarf/raven ring, and enigma (i grinded out both enigma and infinty early from lower kurask, got a 28 maras from a corpse while doing that aswell :p and got a jah from running meph as a newb acc too XD). So "budget", or atleast non optimal gear is just fine, only the knockback from black is a bit anoying when clearing mobs. Merc used reapers toll, treachery and vgaze, had to res it once vs the first 3 bosses (dont remember wich), and it got 1 shot by meph. I did stack alot of sc for extra res and health in my inventory + a 15@res gc, and a perfect anni that i got from cheesing Dclone in chaos sanc, also thanks to one of your vids, my first and probaly only Dclone i will ever kill :p. Total res was 173 fire, 198 cold, 203 light and 152 poison + whatever fade from treachery gives (20 more now with the zon torch for future runs :)). Was expecting lillith and meph to wreck me, but my health pretty much never went down. Getting keys from nith was alot harder then getting the torch (died alot), used the pala for all the keys, but i think im gonna use sorc instead for nith from now on, with a natures peace ring. So thanks for the guide, it helped me alot! And thanks for the Dclone guide aswell :)
Small update, just finished farming 19 keys from Nith, decided to use the paly for it anyways since i dont want so sacrifice my pindle portal on sorc. And used the same setup as for the ubers, with a bit more mf this time. Went very well, at first i still died alot, but after a while i got the hang of luring things away or insta teleporting on nith (started on players 3 but went to p8 after like 10 runs). Barely had to exit out aswell, draculs work great here. Went from lvl 84-86 killing only nith for those keys. Have 1 keyset banked now that i will cube first before getting the rest from Summoner and Countess.
Torch 2: 17-17 assa, torch 3: 10-20 Necro, also got a 18-17-10 anni while getting the first torch cuz dclone spawned and since i was on the smiter, why not :). If only it would give me a dam sorc or pala torch lol, back to Countess and Summoner now. Update: 19-18 barb, 11-16 pala (about time), 19-10 assa, and last but not least, 11-15 SORC on my last keyset, not the best but it will do :D Took me 7 runs for a sorc torch
Do not play this build while leveling, this is a build to kill high end/high life bosses! Look for "zealer"(melee) or "hammerdin"(spellcast) builds here on youtube for the best leveling alternatives =) When you are high level, you can reset skill points at Akara and go this build.
I'm sick of standard smiter build so I created my own badass build with 90-100% cb, all max ress under mef and simply unkillable and no need to wait for ress from Treachery. You just go in all 3 bosses, and go out.
So, u r in nightmare difficulty or i wrong? Withouth torch you have -40 resistence, instead in hell difficulty u must have -70 with all anya mission cleared
gulioms face, draculs and 1 point in smite is all you need for ubers lol. Take a fast waepon like phase swor na dont need max fanatism. Also your own convinction at lvl 15 or so, overrides uber mephs.

Guiilo Gaming The Torch is the reward for killing the Ubers. Basically, copy his on-screen build, making swaps based on comparable stats.

Step 2: reset skills at Akara and build smiter
Step 0: Just buy a lvl 99 and all the items you need.

For additional res you can also Um Guillamue's to help further offset conviction from Uber Meph, it was pretty much required when I ran hardcore Ubers
You can easily build a smiter with max ias bp and damage where you dont even need fanat, you can just smite with light res aura on. Slower but safe

I’d put one point inton Defiance to get the Holy Shield synergy. It’s so worth it, especially if you’re stacking some plus to x-skills :)
only hard points give bonuses to synergies.
Using 1 point does barely nothing as +skills doesn't work as synergy. You could skip res and max it tho if doing pvp and only smite vs smite
smite always hits, therefore defense stacking is useless.

The grief dmg adds anyhow to the shield dmg. Also there are a lot things that help you like crushing blow and stuff.

It's popular for it's increased attack speed. Not because of deadly strike.
Very true, but getting your extra resists from Mara's does open up other options in your gear (since less of your other gear will have to be focused on resists), meaning you can get your IAS on other pieces if need be. (including Jeweling in IAS in places that would otherwise need resists, or simply needing less resist charms, so you can fit in other useful charms).
You also need all that dex for Grief PB! Also, if we want to be 100% correct, Guilluame is pronounced (ghee-um). It's the french version of William.
I thought you said in another video that Crushing Blow on Weapons won't stack with Smite, as it's isolated to the weapon attack only - so why recommend the Black runeword, for instance? Could you clarify?

instead of 16points combined into Lite Res/Cold Res you can just put them into Conviction, sacrifice 4points of another skill and just negate his aura and you can use all different gear than what you're using and do it easier. fyi GoreRiders>GobToes becuase crushing blow is current hp so it doesn't actually kill them, Deadly Strike is just double dmg and will kill faster past 50%max HP.
lol, yeh. or you can put one (1) point into salvation. also, deadly strike doesn't work with smite, open wounds does tho, so that may be what you are thinking of.
How i do Ubers - Zeal MAX , Sacrifice Max, Holy Shiled max, Fanaticism max, rest on defiance. I use Grief, Exile, Gface, Frotitude, Raven and BK, String of ears,Dracs,Highlord,Goreriders and ofc cta with spirit in offhand.Torch and anni and attack rating,life and dmg charms.Merc is A2 might with Gface,Reaper eth,Duress.I do lesser ubers with zeal and trist on smite.1 point there is ok i do like 1.7k smite. Pretty fun build.I do trist on smite only cause of the single target thing, zeal constantly change targets and cant leech so quick.
I prefer LastWishpb along with 20ias 10cb gloves. u get the lifetap proc as well from last wish. also fade. and u get might aura as well as 60-70 crushing blow. i prefer even bottom of the barrel roll last wish over grief. but thats just my roll on it :D

Bob Smith grief is relatively cheap to make but if you roll a 39/399 or above, it’s worth a lot but it’s more useful than valuable. The damage output from grief is basically broken.
I also think the pally hammers with its mobility is the second greatest pvm and pvp char ever

man I had a geared out smiter back in the day. I took a couple month break and all my characters expired. RIP. i can't remember my account info anymore either. I read that as long as no one made a new character with one of the expired characters names that you can 'reactivate it' but since I can't even remember my account name anymore im SOL.

I run a strange build but i have never even come close to dying on uber runs. Upd umd hoz, perf umd kiras, enigma ( treachery to prebuff fade ) last wish phase blade, upd g toes, dracs or 20 ias cb gloves, t gods, wisp, raven, highlords, random cta and pal spirit for swap, no torch ( so i can sell then unid without needing other characters ) and a random anni.

Some things that would have been useful to have explained:
- How lightning absorb works (I believe it reduces the amount of damage and then gives it back in health? so 20 absorb = 20% less damage and 20% heal too? could be wrong, but that's why an explanation would be good)
- Socket choice for helm (I'm running cham for no freeze, which means I can swap the raven out for another wisp or a soj... don't see the point in anything else as life steal is redundant with life tap.. Manald may even be a good choice to help with the mana issues)
- How dependant the build is on crushing blow. You show the items, but goodness me this build would not work very well without it
Other than the above, think this is a very solid build, love playing it and ubers are a breeze. I'm running with 2k HP, 16.3k def and 95 light res because of this build. Any reason you pump up your cold res before fire?

@@rileydinkleman1022 Conviction aura lvl >20 on your smiter will overrun mephs lvl 20 conviction so you dont get the -130res. If you play budged this is a cheap way to get enough res vs meph. but you have to spend skill points in conv to get it lvl 21
salvation is the way there, a single point is more than enough to keep rez at max against mephisto, as opposed to 10+ points before conviction will help
Last aura in def tree, which contain all resistance, dont increase max res? Is that reason why ppls use small auras instead of this complex?

I could but it would be a bit of a longer playthrough considering it doesn't have great AOE and I would need to find some CBF items and CB and stuff.
I'm actually doing this right now. I just beat NM Baal at lv70. Still using a Knell Striker I found in Act 1 Normal haha. Sporting Duriel's Shell, Tiamat's Rebuke, Tearhaunch, Tal Rasha's Belt (dmg to mana seems to help a lot vs mana burn), Geehomie's Face, Seracen's Chance, Dwarf Star, Nagelring, and some IAS gloves. It's a little slow going, but I let my merc (act 2 might) do most of the non-boss/named fighting. When it gets tough I use hit-and-run tactics and try to inch forward so only a handful of monsters get activated. Group fighting can be rough but 1v1'ing anything is a joke.

Oh, it's definitely a pain in the ass to play a smiter solo haha. It's like any D2 character - a lot of time is spent MF'ing.

if i have exile i prefer to use the gloves from disciple Lying of hands 350% dmg to demons 20% attack speed and 50% fire resist.
Best starter imo in the sorc for easy mf and then work on paladin and stuff when you get the gear you need to start with and trade from there to get a great pally
As for the belt i prefer Nosferatu's coil or Verdungo's or String of ears.

Just got my first torch ever on singleplayer, 14-20 zon, wish it was Pala or Sorc since those are my only chars, but il be making a zon someday anyway, and its still usefull for stacking res on future torch runs.
Was alot easyer then expected though. Only gear different from yours is black runeword (dont have a phase blade for grief yet, and need a mal too -.-), zaka, no wisp so used dwarf/raven ring, and enigma (i grinded out both enigma and infinty early from lower kurask, got a 28 maras from a corpse while doing that aswell :p and got a jah from running meph as a newb acc too XD). So "budget", or atleast non optimal gear is just fine, only the knockback from black is a bit anoying when clearing mobs.
Merc used reapers toll, treachery and vgaze, had to res it once vs the first 3 bosses (dont remember wich), and it got 1 shot by meph.
I did stack alot of sc for extra res and health in my inventory + a 15@res gc, and a perfect anni that i got from cheesing Dclone in chaos sanc, also thanks to one of your vids, my first and probaly only Dclone i will ever kill :p.
Total res was 173 fire, 198 cold, 203 light and 152 poison + whatever fade from treachery gives (20 more now with the zon torch for future runs :)).
Was expecting lillith and meph to wreck me, but my health pretty much never went down.
Getting keys from nith was alot harder then getting the torch (died alot), used the pala for all the keys, but i think im gonna use sorc instead for nith from now on, with a natures peace ring.

Small update, just finished farming 19 keys from Nith, decided to use the paly for it anyways since i dont want so sacrifice my pindle portal on sorc. And used the same setup as for the ubers, with a bit more mf this time.
Went very well, at first i still died alot, but after a while i got the hang of luring things away or insta teleporting on nith (started on players 3 but went to p8 after like 10 runs). Barely had to exit out aswell, draculs work great here. Went from lvl 84-86 killing only nith for those keys.
Have 1 keyset banked now that i will cube first before getting the rest from Summoner and Countess.
Torch 2: 17-17 assa, torch 3: 10-20 Necro, also got a 18-17-10 anni while getting the first torch cuz dclone spawned and since i was on the smiter, why not :).
If only it would give me a dam sorc or pala torch lol, back to Countess and Summoner now.
Update: 19-18 barb, 11-16 pala (about time), 19-10 assa, and last but not least, 11-15 SORC on my last keyset, not the best but it will do :D Took me 7 runs for a sorc torch

Do not play this build while leveling, this is a build to kill high end/high life bosses! Look for "zealer"(melee) or "hammerdin"(spellcast) builds here on youtube for the best leveling alternatives =) When you are high level, you can reset skill points at Akara and go this build.

On the res skill they get 1 for every 2 skill points so they have to be an even number. Jsyn

I'm sick of standard smiter build so I created my own badass build with 90-100% cb, all max ress under mef and simply unkillable and no need to wait for ress from Treachery. You just go in all 3 bosses, and go out.

Hey I was wondering how come the dusk shroud has so much armor. Is it ethereal? Does the increase max durability prevent the armor from breaking?

So, u r in nightmare difficulty or i wrong? Withouth torch you have -40 resistence, instead in hell difficulty u must have -70 with all anya mission cleared

gulioms face, draculs and 1 point in smite is all you need for ubers lol. Take a fast waepon like phase swor na dont need max fanatism.
Also your own convinction at lvl 15 or so, overrides uber mephs.
Defiance gives bonus to holy shield with extra defence so it's worth maxing it out....
depends how much you want more defense. I generally find that I have way more than enough defense by that point
