This is exactly my setup! Different monitor, desk, and speakers, but I use an ROG Ally for my gaming and a Macbook for productivity. I much prefer the lifestyle of it, I don't need to be tied to the desktop. It has let me play games a lot more as someone who will travel a bunch. I can just take all of my computing power with me in my backpack and play games, and when I'm at home I can connect it up to my desktop and play with keyboard and mouse. I have even streamed games to friends on Discord while in bed from my ROG Ally.
I Just bought a second hand Rog Ally with 1tb for $400 and for this Price this is way better than every other handheld I wanted to buy a Second Hand steam deck, but after seeing the Rog Ally Z1 Extreme for that price I said no way I'm going to miss that
just ordered a rog ally for $300 picked up a m.2 enclosure since i had a 1tb laying around lol gonna use that drive to store all my games =) picked up a docking station and a portable monitor since this will be my traveling setup. should be good for the games i play. genshin, dota, etc
The only problem for me is that those things have not enough storage (for me) yes you can swap micro sd with steam deck, but with the rog or other windows handled is just a mess
I bought a dock for the Deck plugged on my TV. It's very useful for emulation gaming for instance if I want to switch to a bigger screen or use a controler. It's quite cheap too (don't buy the official Steam Deck dock).
Literally downgraded what was my main-rig that had a Ryzen 9 3900X and a RTX 2070 Super to only a Ryzen 3 3200G after I started using my ROG Ally docked. Only reason I didn't get rid of the main-rig entirely and just downgraded was because I do need a regular desktop PC for my proctored exams for school (tried using the Ally but its screen pops up as a second monitor through ProctorU). Otherwise I would 100% switch over with no regrets. Especially now that it supports AMD Fluid Motion Frames, the performance combined with Radeon Super Resolution upscaling games from 900p to 1080p is honestly insane.
Ive veen using mini gaming pcs like the GPD Win line of devices for years now as my primary PC. I currently switch between the Legion Go and GPD Win Mini connected to my external GPU. I even use them for work in my office connected to docks. Its awesome to depend on just one device for everything. I also use a Nexdock, which works much better with the GPD win Mini since its so small.
I have the rog ally extreme and I gotta say he makes a good point at the end about feeling less addicted to just a desktop pc especially if your a dad that has to watch a kid. I'm actually a dad with a 8 month old daughter. And it makes it %100 times better than if I was on pc. She even likes to try to play it herself lol.
PC gaming is my hobby. I don't replace my laptop and desktop. I just have more location to play games. There is still plenty of PC games that runs just fine on my old 7 year old laptop for example ( it out performs these handhelds) even though I have a newer laptop. I'll play newer demanding games on my desktop. One reason I'm a PC gamer is I'm not stuck with a single piece of hardware. Now I have PC desktop, laptops and finally PC handheld. (and a Switch) I like handhelds but I think they are over hyped. I even play my Switch docked to my TV in my bedroom over half of the time.
A few years ago, I was a console player but decided it wasn’t for me, I just recently upgraded from an LCD Steam Deck, to an Asus ROG Ally, and have been loving it ever since, also keep up the amazing work, I’m pretty sure I’ve been subbed to you since you had 4K subs!

How do you feel about the ally’s build and feel? Like, I felt it in a best buy once and it honestly felt kinda cheap? I was planning to get it but eventually settled for the GO
hey mannn. Curious, I have very good internet n my cloud gaming on gamepass is still super choppy at times. whats your secret on the ally? Also, (for those reading who don't have one) these devices are such a great way to also figure out if PC gaming is something for you. I loved my Ally experience so much, I've now upgraded toa 7900xt gaming rig.
Waddup! So for cloud I think what matters more than up and down speeds, is your connectivity consistency. So maybe you can reinstall the drivers, or change the router to something more up to date. If not those, then it’s out of your control because it boils down to you Ethernet/internet provider
I know I can connect a battery to my portable monitor and it will charge my Steam deck or Switch and power the monitor at the same time. I don't think the power adapter that came with the monitor is strong enough to do both just power the monitor. It has two usb-c ports so I can connect deck or switch ubs-c cable and the power for the other port.
I wouldn’t say it’s better, it’s just the screen is more comforting to me on the GO. As far as desktop setups go, my experience with the ROG ally have been a lot better
great video, Miles. Makes me think about considering doing this. I still love having high fps in very graphic intense games, but maybe i can settle for 60-100 fps in the games i like.
I already told u rog ally is the best handheld gaming device. I experience 2 issues 1. Battery : as a working guy I don’t have more than 1hr per day for gaming 2. Sleep : but windows hibernate does the job. Now everything cool !!!
In other words the Ally is the best handheld for someone who doesn't have time for gaming. That's like a golfer doesn't have time for golf and plays putt-putt instead.

Can u tell me what performance settings u use. I use 6gb vram 30 watt custom. Full fan speeds and its just not good like my ally!
Dude I bought it on sale, and I still have buyers remorse so I might return it tomorrow. But I will say that it beats my older 2 monitor setup hands down. But I don’t use it like I would with dual monitor. It’s just one giant monitor
No disrespect but as someone who has a gaming pc and several handhelds, I don’t see why you would ever replace your gaming setup with one of these. I daily drive my legion go but when I NEED more power (you will run into a lot of memory and vram issues playing some newer titles, even on low settings and your resolution turned down), I will use my gaming pc. This is definitely something to supplement your existing setup if you already have one. If this is ALL that you have available to you and you don’t already have a pc, then I can definitely see how using a handheld in this fashion could be more convenient.
Well, this is my usecase and will likely retire my gaming PC as a result. There's a couple of games I might miss out on, such as EFT but I might also take my GPU and develop an eGPU. So, the Go (which is the handheld I have bought), is a nice middle ground to a console, gaming PC and smartphone. Do whatever works for you.
When i bought it the legend z1 extreme and connected it with my monitor and keyboard and a mouse...ooooo boy il never go back to tower pc. I dont need high quality 4k rtx gaming things. and you can always use LOSSLESS SCALING it just gives you more frames and smooth gameplay! it has absuletly everything you need. ofcourse it may have some little flaws but best thing i ever bought!
If the goal is to get a handheld gaming setup instead of a gaming pc because it feels nice, portable and more appreciable, then this is the way to go. If you need a notebook then go for a Thinpad T14 if no dedicated GPU is needed or get a GPD win min 2023 with 32 GB to be future proof but the price is steep. 32 GB ram or 20 should be a standard for especially windows handhelds before installing Loooonix
No Way this would be better than a pc unless you have a super old computer. Portability yeah maybe but no way it's better than a 7800x3d and 7900xtx. Probably a paid ad/sponsorship

Oled deck has the best battery life of them all love my 512 oled
And i replaced my legion go woth a gaming laptop never going back
Installed bazzite the other day and been happy with it lol dual booting for the win as well
Bazzite is so awesome. Enjoy that legitness
I dont think thats a G9, maybe a g7. aspect ratio seems 21:9, not 32:9. Still amazing though enjoy
It’s a G8
@@CyberDopamine thanks man!
CALICO VINYL SPOTTED!!
When you have the ally docked and plugged into your monitor does it charge at the same time? Or you can only do one thing at a time?
I know I can connect a battery to my portable monitor and it will charge my Steam deck or Switch and power the monitor at the same time. I don't think the power adapter that came with the monitor is strong enough to do both just power the monitor. It has two usb-c ports so I can connect deck or switch ubs-c cable and the power for the other port.
So which of the 3.. ROG / LEGION / DECK, is your preferred
he made a video on that
This guy might be the next MKHB. SO GOOD!
Dooooood that means a lot thanks!!
@@CyberDopamine just started watching your content and it is excellent. Keep up the good work and don’t give up.
@1World1Love brotha we just getting started!!!!!
is the same idea of the nintendo switch but with a mini computer
If you get your hands on a gpu that might be a fun video to make with your hand held
no annoying fans no crazy wattage no heat, no stupid wires everywhere, its perfect for me = idc if it looks like a space station or not. it works FINE
Excellent video!
I was under the impression that you preferred the Legion GO more and that it was better than the ally, is that true?
I wouldn’t say it’s better, it’s just the screen is more comforting to me on the GO. As far as desktop setups go, my experience with the ROG ally have been a lot better
Wonder if FL studio would work with it well.. found one for 499 used..cheaper than a Acer predator Helo..
it can run ableton, fl will probably be even better
Isn't the future great? It's only going to get better and better as far as tech goes.
What dock do you use?
It’s the rgb one from jsaux. I have one and it’s brilliant.
great video, Miles. Makes me think about considering doing this. I still love having high fps in very graphic intense games, but maybe i can settle for 60-100 fps in the games i like.
Love this vid!!!
i took it a step further and use DEX
W SETUP!
is that starfield @3:58?
Rog ally vs legion go?
Where can i order the discord
I already told u rog ally is the best handheld gaming device. I experience 2 issues
1. Battery : as a working guy I don’t have more than 1hr per day for gaming
2. Sleep : but windows hibernate does the job.
Now everything cool !!!
In other words the Ally is the best handheld for someone who doesn't have time for gaming. That's like a golfer doesn't have time for golf and plays putt-putt instead.
@@smidlee7747 ha ha bro.. if u spend more than 1hr for gaming per day.. then u r jobless person.. ally performing better than steam in every way and gives me 1.5hr battery for big aaa games.. so cry with ur deck
@@SelvarajuManivannan06 I'm a PC gamers long before PC handhelds. PC gaming is my hobby. I have a 7 year old laptop that outperforms all these handhelds.
Lately I've been playing Unicorn Overlord on the Switch and not even think about the battery life. Perfect game for the Switch to play on the go.
I don't just play triple A titles. These handhelds are not ideal to play current triple A (PS5) titles. (neither is my 7 year old laptop) They are more ideal playing older and indy titles.
@@smidlee7747 every console is not perfect.. rog ally outsold steamdeck in india.. we love ally performance. We don’t have all day for gaming. It’s good for 1hr gaming per day
Give it time, you’ll go back.
Can u please help me bro. Please help me set up my legion go. I have an ally and legion go. My rog ally is running smooth and good graphics my legion go is running very choppy. Can u tell me what performance settings u use. I use 6gb vram 30 watt custom. Full fan speeds and its just not good like my ally!
It's the same for me too! My rog ally performs the best
@@CyberDopamine wow !!! Well did u get fluid motion frames to work on the legion?
Is that the Odyssey oled g8 monitor?
Yeah dude
@@CyberDopamine it's on sale right now for $600 and I want to get it but I don't feeling like dealing with trying to sell my dual monitors 😮💨.
Got my Legion Go 2 months ago and used my PC with a 4090 twice.
I got a rog ally, and my girlfriend doesn't yell at me anymore about the game
I really like the design of the Rog Ally one of the best if not the best looking handhelds out there
Watching this on my ally lol
Mac for media production. #myth
Are you showing the handheld or your game setup marketing 😅
If the goal is to get a handheld gaming setup instead of a gaming pc because it feels nice, portable and more appreciable, then this is the way to go. If you need a notebook then go for a Thinpad T14 if no dedicated GPU is needed or get a GPD win min 2023 with 32 GB to be future proof but the price is steep. 32 GB ram or 20 should be a standard for especially windows handhelds before installing Loooonix
old money for sure
Get an egpu with a RTX 4080, then we can talk!
I replaced my gaming pc with a banana. 😊
🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
Duhhhhh
No Way this would be better than a pc unless you have a super old computer. Portability yeah maybe but no way it's better than a 7800x3d and 7900xtx. Probably a paid ad/sponsorship
dont go to your gf house pls and stay at your home and good video
edit: wear 1 finger ring not 4 no hate
