Hello , We are sheep and suckler farmers and had always used prolapse harnesses on the ewes , we recently had a cow prolapse before calving and got the vet to stich her up but this was to no avail and it looking bad for her until we used your method on her she has since successfully calved and appears to have made a full recovery if it wasn't for your video that cow would be dead . These videos are genuinely sharing knowledge to help other farmers keep up the great work 👍
Love the prolapse belt. So simple to the methods we had here 40 years ago. Some winters we have lots of grass in winter and I did not know that would be a problem. A viewer who lives in the Willamette Valley in Oregon.
Mate I enjoy watching how great you are with your ladies. I only have small flick at the moment, but there are to many sheep farmers in Australia that just forget about their sheep and to me don't give a shit about them. So always great to see care going into them . Thankyou.
Thanks for sharing this good to know this awful problem happens on other farms too. We’ve tried spoons a harness and now will try the rope trick on the next one 👍
"An awful problem" is a very good description.. it's a problem that causes dreadful discomfort to the poor sheep... I'm sure you will find success with the rope...🤞
Another great video Well now should have put this up yesterday had to put a spoon in a ewe this morning will try this next time 🤞I won't have to grey crows the f""kers Three weeks and counting down here to lamping here the last few night around the lambing fields to keep mr 🦊 in his place your blessed with a shed
@@sheepschool365 What do you wash the prolapse with? iodine diluted with water? Sometimes they have a very big prolapse that's hard to get back in, I rem turning them upside down for the vet and holding the back legs up, backbreaking job😀 the vet gives them a jab of something as well to relax the muscle. The joys of sheep farming!!
Good video there's plenty of problems with sheep but your rope harness seems a great job I have a couple of Ritchie harness they seem ok your 2 helpers are great 👍
That is a great tip, I will hope to remember that when I need it! I also need to acquire a mobile head lock like that, you're darn clever aren't ya! Sorry about that ewe, poor bugger. Glad she made it!
Hello Sir absolutely loved the beautiful beauty's surrounding and the background scenery village views .. gorgeous editing filming captured and as always you bring to us best of the best uploading videos content vloggs, keep it up Sir and I really appreciate and enjoy watching your Amazing lifestyle overthere, take care stay safe .. You could add a spoon by inserting it under the rope, I made an extra fixing by making a hole in the middle so that the spoon was fixed with three tapes. The middle one stabilised the position.I used to use a harness and a spoon together. So glad the crows didn’t peck the eye out of the cast ewe. I am thinking it may have been a hungry fox. True you learn something new every day
Thank you Wendy.. when I saw the injuries first I was convinced it was a fox or dog attack... not exactly sure! I have found no need for a spoon along with the rope even in serious cases of hard pressing. Providing the tension is right the rope will do the trick....👌
Great video again. Do you cull all ewes that prolapse? I use the straps and have worked well for me the last few years but that is an interesting other way to do it and looks a good job too.
Thank you.. yes any sheep that prolapsed will be recorded and culled after weaning. I have found a good chance of them becoming repeat offenders next year...
@@sheepschool365. Great vid I used to cull ewes that prolapsed now I take a notch out of an ear if they do it again in following years there culled only one has, but any that prolapse after they've lambed are culled after weaning.
Wish I had these videos on hand when I started lambing 15 years ago. You can read about what to do but it's great to see it demonstrated. Have loved all of your videos. Wishing you all the best
It's can be for multiple reasons such as sheep too fat, poor quality hay/silage, too much concentrates in one feed and calcium deficiency will also trigger it. When the lambing process starts the problem usually disappears but if left untreated they won't make it that far...
The problem u you have coming up on lambing is them ewes are in serious condition. U have two much good ground. Try holding them on roughly before the last 6 weeks of lambing. U can kill them with kindness.
I mentioned that in the sheep handling system video. Had serious problems when they were too fat few years ago.. no major problems at lambing yet but wouldn't like them any fatter. They definitely won't look as good at weaning....
Hello sir how are you I have 8+ years in sheep farming job like milking parlour feeding sheep's baby sheep's and all other tasks can you help me to get a job please 😊

Doctor Beattie comes to the rescue well done another gem of a video .Well done😢
You are a lifesaver with the prolapse problem! That was epic! Totally going to use that on my sheep if they need it!
Glad you found it useful...👌
Impressed by the rope trick the vet recommended. Thanks for showing us! Your DIY headlock was also great to see. Good luck to your flock :)
Thank you very much!

I didn't know you could help the prolapse issue with a rope, that's genius!
Very educational for sure, thank you very much.
You're very welcome!
They say don't work with children or animals. This man can do both simultaneously and at the same time! 😄
Doesn't always go to plan...🤣

Fascinating…I m sure many farmers will be applying your ideas
I hope so! It's much kinder for sheep than stitching...
Great video as always you done a great job on that ewe with the rope the other ewe looks a lot brighter 👌
Thanks Gary. Lost a ewe since but you can't win them all....

Will be tight for space so sheep and lambs will not be hanging around in the shed. Hopefully the weather stays good 🤞
Very helpful thing to see with the rope. Never seen it done
saw the rope frick in a book twenty years ago used it ever since
It's hard to move away from using the rope once you get used it....👍
Another very informative video - great content - well done
Thank you...👌
Awesome trick with the rope .Good On you 👍
Thank you 👍
Good man, great tip with the rope I must try it next time, I always stitch them, lucky you found that ewe, them crows are a torture too.
Give rope a go... you'll never stitch a ewe again!

Pops always seemed to have a buckle chewed off my harnesses, that's why I moved to the rope...
I love that headlock you make great idea you should sell them would be very handy for cutting rams horns when close to the head 👍👍
Now there's a great idea! Thanks Thomas...👌

What a great video. We just tried the harness and will

Find that sheep head gate very helpful where could I get one
Plan to start making them end of April after lambing if you could wait till then?
@@sheepschool365 definitely would buy one let me no how it goes 👍🏼
Can buy straps in vets aswell I find them very good I'll never stitch a ewe again job I hated
Tried the harness before but Pops the dog seems to love the buckles and would always have one chewed off...
Good farmer
What ram are you using on the sheep
I will run through the type of sheep and rams I'm running after lambing. Stay tuned...👌
Nothing is as good as a harness you made started that last year
Any word on results of molasses based silage
Results are at the end of that video. Need to do a bit more testing....
