Hi, i got married in 2018, have been a dependent and GC holder. My wife forgot to include me in her tax filing, this year. I have been unemployed and hence not payed tax. I applied on the IRS, i got a email saying accepted but that was a month ago, still not heard back.I plan on paying my tax this month.Kindly advice me, as i have not heard back nor do i know how to check.
If you didn’t receive anything by now, you’ll be able to claim this credit on your 2020 tax return. Make sure you file married and it should allow you to claim $2400 in additional credits. That’s what I’m doing next year for me and my family.
So I went threw and filled out everything and apparently I was filed as a dependent on my mothers taxes and that means she has been receiving my stimulus checks and blowing threw them incredibly fast... but how do I fix my status and change the fact that I’m filed as a dependent I looked it up but it said that she would have to file a form?
That’s unfortunate... there’s nothing you can do if she already claimed you on 2020 taxes... it will trigger an audit for her and most likely reject your return from getting e-filed. :(
And yes she would have to amend her tax return to undo it and pay back the money. She most likely won’t do that if she claimed you without your knowledge
If you qualify as a dependent on that person's return, he/she does not need your permission to claim you.
If you determine that no one has the right to claim you as their dependent, you should file a paper return, claiming yourself and send it in to the IRS. They will then contact you and whoever claimed you and adjust your tax result accordingly.
It’s up to you if you want to go through with this.
@@MillennialFinance101 if I can get her to agree to amend it, is there a way to do that without having her to pay? And if there is will it be changed on file this year or will it only take affect on next years taxes? ( I’m sorry for all the questions this is my first time filing and I know/ was taught nothing about taxes)
It would be changed for this 2020 tax year. Her claiming you allowed her to claim a $500 credit. She also might have got your 3rd stimulus of $1400 as well.
It might have also carried over to her state taxes also. It’s complicated for sure
So let’s say you filed with H&R Block and it got direct deposit to an Emerald card. Will it be deposited in there or will they mail you a check?
It’s not clear yet. HR block mentions they don’t know either on their website www.hrblock.com/tax-center/filing/credits/stimulus-payment-information/
Worse case, they mail you a check

Kupcakekonfettifun I checked some of the turbo tax forums and they mention to try again later. They might be overhwhelmed with the amount of visitors. Did it ask you to mail it in?

You will have to just file your 2020 taxes to get this 1st round of stimulus. The registration is closed already.
I did this registration and was accepted by the IRS on April 8th. I still did not get my stimulus. I used direct deposit. On the Get my Payment portal on IRS says they have no info on me. How long does this take? Says that it's being processed on Where's my Refund. What should I do??
According to the IRS FAQ, you might be able to use the Get My Payment to check status if they can authenticate you. I'm not sure how long you need to wait but it seems only the tax filers with direct deposit were sent in the 1st round.
They may also be processing your information still.
@@MillennialFinance101 When I use the get my payment. It's says status unknown, like it's been doing for a lot of people. I hope TurboTax stimulus registration isn't bullshit?

Yes. You were supposed to register as a non filer but that deadline has come abs gone. You will need to file a tax return now (even though you made no money).

I do have a question. What if you were eligible for a stimulus the passed rounds but never received them and now that I just filed on turbo will I get the previous Stimulus checks that I didn’t receive?

What if i live outside the country?
There’s a specific way for you to file your return but it’s too late now as the filing deadline has passed! The $1400 can still be claimed next year!!

What if I didn't make too little money, and that I am required to file? Can I register now and then file later?
Shana Turner You basically register yourself with TurboTax for free. Thats how you get it now instead of next year
@@MillennialFinance101 Thank you. But the reason that I am confused is because there are 2 options for the Turbotax Registration. I would like to choose the option for registering now, but it indicates that it is for those who are not required to file (because of low income), which doesn't apply to me. Is it okay for me to proceed with Registration even though I plan to file at a later date?
Shana Turner I see. Did you qualify with 2018 taxes? If so, you don’t need to register if you filed 2018. If not, it’s best to register so they have your info (even if you file later). That way you don’t miss the payment window!

I was hesitant because I wasn't sure if I would be able to file later if I chose to register today. One more question. Will I be penalized any type of way for registering today and then filing later?
Shana Turner you can register today and file later. No way there will be a penalty. Trump has removed all penalties and extended tax filing dates so this is definitely your route. Check your state to make sure they extended also and have no penalties! Good luck!
What does it mean when it is asking for a User ID? Are we supposed to create one? Also how many numbers are supposed to be in this user ID? Thank you!
I believe this is long gone now as the filing deadline has passed. The only way to claim these is to file your taxes in 2021. The next stimulus will have similar rules so be on the lookout for that!
