    Thanks for another concise review. Trek: these bikes are great, and they beat the competition at this price point. But please charge 10 more dollars to defray your tooling costs and switch to a thru axle in the rear. Please!

    • @Jamesthebikeguy
      @Jamesthebikeguy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I hope the next-gen gets a thru-axle. I think the choice for them is more than cost, it is that this bike shares the frame with the X-Caliber, so it needs to be cross-compatible with those bikes and spec levels.

    • @SSH01
      @SSH01 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi does the roscoe 8 have a thru-axel ?

    • @Jamesthebikeguy
      @Jamesthebikeguy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @LetsGoOverground They are. Frame Geo is different because the travel of the fork is longer and the wheel size outside diameter is smaller.

    • @Jamesthebikeguy
      @Jamesthebikeguy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well actually the 27.5+ is a slightly smaller wheel diameter than a traditional 29er. The shorter outside diameter helps counter act the significant change in fork length. The fork is the main reason for the change in geo.

    • @1111-t5n
      @1111-t5n 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are worried about strength in the rear hub and axle don't worry unlike previous models they changed the hubs and depending if you have the current wheels depending on what series level you bought. If it came with the 32 hole hub its plenty strong if not it is the only time you will suffer from rim weakness. It was one of the reasons I waited for some of the 2020s. So if you have a 30 or 28 rear hub make sure you have it serviced on a regular basis fo prevent the hub from failing. And all of us with boost rear assemblies change out your skewer to a top quality all metal bontrager type or your favorite titanium version. It will help strengthen that area along with keeping your rim tight and true you should never have hub or cassette engagement issues along with keeping the dirt and grit out just a tip for everyone on the trails.

  • @john6563

    Here in 2023 I've owned my Roscoe 7 for almost 3 yrs. Put about 7k km on it so far. Wore out a few chains a couple cassettes, a derailleur and I switched the bb out for a DUB. Brakes are still good other than service, same for the fork. The seat post is understandable getting a little sluggish. I think it was money well spent! ps I'm small rider and my bike's a L frame. I love how versatile it is. I can ride harder trails on messy days but bush trails on nice days and it's super easy to control. The wide tires make it really stable. It's geometry makes it really fun but if you relax and lean back you can lose the front end pretty easy in a turn. lol

    This bike is really good for the money. I was going to get it but I couldn't stretch my budget to 1259+8.25% tax(texas). Settled for the Nukeproof Scout 290 Sport from chainreactioncycles. No dropper and only a 10speed deore drivetrain but it's still a good bike at 1k.
    only downside i found while demoing the roscoe 7 was that the dropper lever felt pretty bad. i'm sure you could just buy a better lever though. but at this pricepoint a dropper is nice to have even if it's not a great one.

    Want solid control and fun on trails but will also be doing a lot of paved path riding. Would rolling resistance on pavement on the Roscoe 7 with Maxxis tires mean that opting for an X-Caliber 8 might be a better bet? Surprisingly, weights are almost identical.

  • @PascalKolkman
    @PascalKolkman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Overall Specs & the design plus vivid colour scheme look good to me.
    Since the Trek Roscoe 7 & 8 are more expensive than the roscoe entry level 6
    I would expect a more stiffer Thru axle on the extra wide 141 boost rear wheel too in stead of the less stiff Quick Release.
    I have seen other cheaper 27.5 plus hydroformed entry level alloy frames wich allready come with rear boost thru axle.
    Also the roscoe 12 speed derailleur hanger looks vulnerable. I have read reviews of people cracking or breaking their alloy Trek Roscoe derailleur hanger within several months.
    Suprisingly at last talking about frame stiffness. The rear triangle both wide chain stays and the
    seat stays have no reinforcement bridge connection in between.

    Where did you find this type of color?

    • @BarefootFlowers
      @BarefootFlowers 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the women's color. The differences are extremely minimal between the men's and women's - the frame and components are exactly the same. The differences boils down essentially to a slightly less-wide handle bar and a women's specific saddle. If you like this color better than the unisex Roscoe 7, don't be deterred by the "women's" label

    • @robertt5178
      @robertt5178 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BarefootFlowers I just purchased the woman's version. The dealer is even changing out the saddle for me to the "mens" and I didn't even notice a difference in the handle bars. I liked the color as the only other color that was available is black, the teal is completely out of stock, and I'm not crazy about a black frame. I ride at night some and like a splash of color. I paired it with lime green peddles and grips. Had a guy in the shop comment on how good it looked. Little did he know I just purchased a woman's bike. lol

    • @BarefootFlowers
      @BarefootFlowers 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@robertt5178 That's great! I heard the difference in handlebars is practically unnoticeable, so no surprise there. I'm not crazy about a black frame either; the teal was nice, but there's something a little more special about the women's color...especially if you change out the grips and pedals. Good call doing that! I hope you love it (and love looking at it) and have tons of great rides~
