  • This is the next big car from Toyota and it's a hybrid again, this time it's a 1.5ltr petrol hybrid or 1lt petrol that Ireland will get. Let's see if it lives up to the heritage

Great video Bob, I loved the Yaris hybrid. I got the chance to drive and review one last year for my channel.
I loved how much the cars handling improved and the heads up display was a neat touch too!

Great review thanks Bob. Awaiting mine to arrive at my local dealership Pinkstones Toyota in Stoke on Trent, UK. Just a quick comment. I agree the CVT box does create "noise" from the engine as it is revs highly to accellerate. That said, it's not in your face (from my test drive) it's just because there is a lack of noise coming from anywhere else. The old story of you manage to reduce noise in 1 area results in uncovering a "new" noise that was there all along. I hope that makes sense? lol - Subscribed to you today.

I wonder if that could be improved with the use of some Dynamat type stuff? I recently read about a guy who'd fitted some of it to the inside of his VW Up! GTI doors as part of an audio upgrade, and reckoned the doors now shut with more of a quality-evoking 'thunk' than the tinny sound they made before.

I borrowed a Design version, which is the next level up from base. I really enjoyed driving it, and thought the acceleration was surprisingly good. I checked the doors, as I'd seen other reviews comment on this, but they sounded OK on mine. I disagree on the boot, which I thought was small, and roadnoise on the motorway, which I wouldn't describe as quiet.

15:07 You can actually set the distance to the vehicle in front in 3 steps using the button right above the one used to activate the cruise control on the steering wheel (the one that looks like half a car sending out a radar signal). The set distance resets to the far setting every time you deactivate cruise control (not just canceling it, but turning it off). Also, a lot of the safety features are at play when using the active cruise control, some of which can be a bit annoying. Most of them can be turned off through the settings in the info display in the dashboard.
Jou should be able to see how much charge the battery has on the home screen on the infotainment system, and also in one of the submenus in the info display in the dash. Those submenus are available by pressing the left and right buttons on the left side of the steering wheel. Up and down changes menu, left and right changes submenu. Some "settings" submenus are available by pressing and holding the OK button, if so, it will say so on the screen.
I just got mine this thursday (top of the line trim level, Oxide Bronce), and I wholeheartedly agree with you, that cabin is a VERY nice place to be in. :)

Most Toyota hybrids have an “Energy Flow Display” on both the centre infotainment screen and the little display between instruments. In fact you were almost there with the bar graph you selected, you needed to hit the “Energy” button.

My old man is exactly the same with his 1.5 Design. He’s loving it but only had it 6 weeks and he was disappointed that he couldn’t really get much better than low 40’s mpg.
I took him out for a drive in it (took the scenic route to go pick up food shopping) and without trying or dawdling I was hitting mid 60’s mpg.
It’s all about how you drive them, and knowing how to get the best out of the HSD (I have a 2.0 GR Corolla).

Consumption of 5,9 l/100 km. (= 47,9 mpg) is really (too) high for this car.
The average, according to Spritmonitor is 4,54 l/100 km. (= 62,2 mpg), measured over min. 2000 km. (1250 miles).

As you can see above, not one of 15 drivers managed 5,9 l/100 km. (= 47,9 mpg).
The "record holder" managed 5,14 liters (55 mpg), so you "won! 😉
Our Yaris Hybrid (2017) has an average consumption (not BC but measured over three and a half years) of 4,9 l/100 km. = 57,6 mpg.

@@tonedcos So the Toyota E-CVT has been round since 1997 (Prius). It is completely different from belt-driven CVTs from other manufacturers (including the disasters from Nissan). Toyota should stop calling it a CVT and just refer to it as a “Hybrid Synergy Drive”. It is mechanically simpler than a manual gearbox by using a planetary gearbox to connect a petrol engine and two electric motor/generators to the drive wheels.

@@dingbatt I see, that's what bugs me about the conventional cvt, the belt drive.

I was going to watch the video but as soon as he starts nit picking over the sound of a door closing, that was enough for me. If a car sales person did that in the showroom to put buyers off he would be out of a job. Amateurish.

He’s reviewing the car so joe public knows what it’s like.

Completely agree. Too much emphasis on that for me. Plus the sound has improved for the 2022 /23 model. Iv recently purchased a gr sport variant n the doors don’t sound tinny at all.
