  • Desperado" is a song by the American rock band the Eagles. The track was written by Glenn Frey and Don Henley and appeared on the 1973 album Desperado as well as numerous compilation albums. It ranked No. 494 on Rolling Stone's 2004 list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".According to Henley, "Desperado" was based on a song he started in 1968, written in the style of old songs by Stephen Foster. The song was originally about a friend named Leo and began with "Leo, my God, why don't you come to your senses..." In 1972, after they had recorded their first album Eagles in London, Glenn Frey and Henley decided that they should write songs together, and within a day or two after returning from London, they wrote "Desperado".

    Honest, pure heartbreak in Ronstadt's pipes. Both powerful and warm. No one quite like Linda. On the right night just mesmerizing- we are still listening and melting. Sigh...

    My very first album I purchased with my own earned money at 10 years old was Simple Dreams. I've seen her live twice. She's as good live-always pitch perfect and powerful-as she is on her albums. Linda was my 1st crush and my love and adoration for her continues today.

    The Voice of Ms. Linda Ronstadt is a unique and only its own. Sure some are able to do Blue Bayou bit to do this tune like Ms. Linda Ronstadt did it with the Eagles would be the challenge. Tone is not faked in any way.

    Linda was able to color her voice like no other. What ever she was singing about sorrow, joy or heartache you can hear the emotion behind the songwriters words. It's why so many songwriters loved to have her do their songs. She could sing it better than they could.

    Funny to watch Henley and Frey talk about this song. They wrote it, put it on their album, and it went no-where. Linda did it, it became a smash hit, and has entered the repertory of many artists. Henley and Frey always gave Linda the credit.

      Exactly. Frey says she made it the Eagles signature song and Henley says she made it a classic. That's quite high praise.
      Linda just quite possibly would have released it before the Eagles in 74. She was having trouble finishing her Don't Cry Now album. She had historically released in the spring around March. Don't Cry Now was months behind in November I think.

    She is gorgeous here. No modern "diva" can compare. Her voice could do anything: high, low, sad, sorrowful, hopeful, anything. She could do folk, country, rock. opera, big ballad and all with feeling. I loved The Eagles singing this and always will. It was my first and only but Linda hit those high notes they couldn't.

    • @russyeatman5631
      @russyeatman5631 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed. You got it all. "No modern "diva' can compare". NOT ONE of them is even close to Ms. Ronstadt has power, flexibility and versatility that few possess. Eva Cassidy might be close to Linda Ronstadt. Sadly Ms Cassidy died way too soon, Died young. Never got a fair chance to make it big
      Frey and Henley always gave her credit for making this song a hit - did not begrudge her a single dollar nor a second of attention. Both of them credit her for giving The Eagles a start: Henley & Frey started out playing in her band. Elegant lady that she is, she never publicly criticized them for wanting to start their own band.

    This song should wipe away any doubt about her 'pipe', the Eagles did not accuse but praise her for singing their song, I am sure most of them if not all would do the same including Don n Phil Everlys' When Will I Be Loved,' powerful w/o having to scream. Willie Nelson was right about her.
