Agree 💯, she's been my favorite and the very best since she began when I was s young teenager. Loved everything she ever recorded. A beautiful lady with a beautiful voice.
It is Willie's song, and Patsy and then Linda made it amazing. The band is also incredible. We're lucky Linda was healthy for over sixty years. Sadly, all good things come to an end, and we are left with electronic dance music. Shoot me now. I have lived a life.
Linda is certainly one of the greatest singers of all time. Female or Male. Her versatility is simply amazing. When Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris consider her "The Best" it is pretty hard to ignore her talent. Country, Rock, Pop, New Wave, Opera, Spanish, Classical and Big Band; LInda could sing anything. Five platinum albums in a row speaks volumes. She could sing anything at a very high level.
And let's add Broadway musical star. I know it may not be more challenging than some of her past repertoire's but she had to do it 7 to 8 times per week at the highest level of her talent vs weekly or monthly concerts or studio work a few weeks per year. She amazes me still to this day. Thank you Linda and thank you for posting this performance.
Linda Ronstadt had the career she deserved. Always exploring her craft and bringing the curiosity, warmth, humour and tenderness to to everything she approached. Never afraid to approach her gift. Interesting that she and Julie Andrews, another magnificent voice, have been robbed of their gift by illness or medical issues and now live in a world where their recordings define them.
Linda's superb voice combined with the jazzy arrangement with the country pedalsteel makes this probably the ultimate version of this song. Everything 'fits'!
I'm going to keep this simple. Her voice was gold. Linda tone and phrasing was one of the finest. I am so happy we have recordings of her. All my love to you Linda. Thank You and Merry Christmas 2020.
I didnt realize it at the time of my younger concert going times that I experienced listening in person to the greatest female singer of my time. Thank you Linda !
I absolutely adore everything about Linda Ronstadt. That voice which was both soft and powerful and her exquisite control. If anyone could cover this song by Patsy Cline it would be Linda and it is remarkable. I'm still in the Patsy camp on this one though because her version was more "old school" with the primary instrument being that beautiful piano and the backing vocals by the Jordanaires (who also worked with Elvis). That style just worked so well for the song and just isn't done any more. That said, I will listen to Linda's version any time because I'll never get enough of that voice
I'm heartbroken. Linda was probably the finest voice I've ever heard in my lifetime. I can only hope that she will be with us for a good many years. And that her illness progresses very slowly or not at all. We're all getting old so much sooner than any of us ever dreamed. Life is short. And time is priceless.
I used to think that Patsy Cline OWNED this song. Till I heard Linda sing it. It's still Patsy's song, but the extraordinary Linda does a great job with it. The musicians were great as well
I agree. Linda knew a song and gave it its due and it did not matter what the song was. Her range was phenomenal. She is the best "pop" singer I ever came across. She is beautiful: body and soul and so is her voice.
If Linda had just recorded country music, she would have had great success. The fact that she excelled in many music genres makes her one of the greatest female singers of all time. This rendition is second to none.
+catman916 What's wrong with being versatile?? I do it all the time, country, jazz, classical music, etc. I listen and appreciate it all when I'm in the mood. Stop being so damn narrow minded.

I can't think of another singer who excelled in this way.

She sings it exactly the way Patsy did, the only way it should be sung. It's perfection. I think Linda Ronstadt if the greatest woman singer of the past 40 years. I love her voice and it's a shame that someone of her caliber had to get an illness what takes that voice away from her.
+bon1042 Its way slower than Patsy's version and lacks the emotional feel of Patsy's. And I like Linda, she has a great voice and many great songs behind her.
I think Linda puts More Emotion into it than Patsy's. That said, I like both artists, but Linda throughout her catalogue has much more emotion in her voice.
Love Patsy Cline. But, this is a rare occasion when I prefer another version of a song over hers. I love that sexy, sultry, soft humming at the tag end of the song ❤ "Linda probably got the most beautiful voice, bar none, than any singer in the 20th century." - Emmylou Harris
I agree with Willy, it took me a long time to understand that statement. We love her for her vocals but you gotta know SHE has a strong mind of her own!

Cline had a similar "TEARDROP" in her voice but Linda singing LIVE was pure, natural and surrounded by the finest musicians just nails this. As good as it gets - Sadness never had a better friend than Linda Ronstadt.
Wow, this is amazing. I never knew she covered this song so early in her career. She gives Patsy Cline a run for her money. Though I prefer the arrangement and Linda's phrasing of this version. The musicianship was second to none, too.

@@sandyellis3004 Right. And the assertion that Patsy was all but forgotten until this cover by Linda is ludicrous. She was a walking Icon when the talented Linda was just a teen and has remained so to this day.

Patsy Cline is the greatest female country singer of all time. All female country singers know it. As did Linda. As did Shania, As did Loretta , as did Tammy, as did Faith , so did Dolly, as did Carrie, and all the others. When Linda recorded this , she undoubtedly was one of Patsy's biggest fans , and was undoubtedly hugely influenced by her in her early years. Even though she was already gone , Linda probably wanted to honor Patsy (and make a few bucks) by recording one of her biggest hits. Willie had NOTHING to do with it even though he wrote it.. All others can only wish they had a voice as strong and beautiful as she had.And by the way, as big a star as Willie became late in his career, nobody really new who he was until the mid 70's when Waylon Jennings and him hooked up. If you wan't to hear how great Patsy;s voice was I suggest you listen to Tennessee Waltz or any other original recording by her to hear for yourself .
If anyone could hold a candle to Patsy Cline it is Linda R.
LeAnn Rimes covered it so well too.
