I don't understand why the media is complaining about teams get too many chances to play for a title? This is the best system that they have had, because teams have something to play for until late November. I thought that the old system sucked because if you had one loss you were out. Also the best players would sit out and not play (waiting for the NFL). Now fans and players have a reason to be excited for the entire season (for the most part).
I don't mind teams getting multiple chances. I do mind Alabama still having a chance after losing 3 times and getting their cheeks busted by a 6 win team only two weeks ago. The SEC (and ND) bias is so ridiculous these teams are going to have lose 4 or 5 games to actually be out at this point.
It’s much better, but I do think it can be improved on. I’m personally not liking them picking the “best” teams instead of the teams that deserve it. There is NO WAY Bama should be rewarded with a playoff spot after the OU and Vandy loss. Especially the OU loss 😂!
@@jasjflfair but the million dollar question is. Baring Clemson winning the ACC, does Alabama get in with one more loss or Miami who haven’t had a great quality win and have been on cardiac watch for about a month.
Something needs to be said here: Miami was #4 at one point, but what about SMU? I think the committee is forgetting they are in the ACC. If Miami got up that high and went back to #6 before losing, why is SMU still lower than them?
Just think, if Oregon, Arizona State, SMU, and Texas win their championship games then all for Power 4 champions will be teams that weren't in their conference last year.
I wasn't sure about IU being in until OSU lost to Michigan and IU blew out Purdue 66 to 0. IU has beat the dog shit out of teams this year. I don't know if they will make it past the first round, but they deserve to be in.
I get your point but Purdue is 1-11 with their only win against FCS Indiana State. They are easily the worst Power 4 Team and one of the worst FBS teams. IU better beat the shit out of them
Indiana kept their starters in the whole game against a one-win team. Once you realize that Indiana and Colorado don’t slow down once they have a solid lead-because those teams are looking to pump up their stats-those stats look less and less impressive.
@@andrewlake7120lol it was senior night let the seniors enjoy they selves smh ppl weird why we slowing down for its a sport let them play if they wanna play sheesh yall be complaining over nun not Indiana fault the other team trash 😭
Bout had a stroke trying to read this reply, the barest amount of punctuation would go a long way for you brother. As to the argument, “it was senior night,” I am not saying that it’s somehow against the rules to keep your starters in. I’m just saying that a lot of teams could have blow out wins if they’d keep their starters in the whole game. You wanna go out and rub the other guy’s face in it? Fine with me. Just don’t expect me to fawn over you for it.
As a life long Vegas native. I can't believe I'm hearing UNLV and playoffs in the same sentence. You all don't get it. We average 3 wins a season over the last 20 years. We have NEVER been relevant.
I've been watching college football since the early 80's. UNLV has always been a team to schedule if you wanted a win. Teams like UNLV are the reason to have a play off.
Umm, come on down to SC. We had ONE 10 win season prior to Steve Spurrier. Hell we had 1 bowl win prior to 2000! We've always been a average at best to bottom of the barrel team. Yes, the Spurrier years and even the Holtz ones, but outside of under Joe Morrison from 83-88 and Dietzel/Carlen (Dietzel won a national title at LSU and coached our only ACC title team. Carlen coached our Heisman winner, George Rogers.) we have been mostly irrelevant in football. So I get you. Life long South Carolinian and been going to Gamecock games since 80s.
@davidfence6939 Love that and thank you for the perspective. Actually had a chance to visit USC and took a pic with the golden cock. South Carolina, beautiful state you live in.
Funny thing about Indiana’s résumé is that if Michigan or Ohio State had the exact same, they would be considered absolute no brainer locks to be in. They are also ahead of 4-5 of these teams now in strength of schedule, which was the only argument against them before. Blew out everybody except Michigan (who had stellar defense down the stretch) and had 1 bad game at the Shoe exasperated by multiple special teams mistakes. If the fighting Cignetti’s get left out it would be criminal.
@mr.obvious1000 Indiana will probably make it but lose by 50 points in Playoff! Every team hopes to play Indiana they are gonna get curb stomped! Facts!!!
@ just a weak copy and paste response. Indiana deserves to be in without question. All these bubble teams have losses to some “mediocre” .500 teams as well. Indiana destroyed all the mediocre teams they played and those teams didn’t. 🤷♂️ all these bubble teams have huge blemishes on their résumés, Indiana has 1 on the road vs the #2 team in the country. College football has a name brand bias problem. Alabama and Miami have no business being in the playoffs this year. Crazy how they are favored above teams like South Carolina
Your first sentence made sense, your second did not. South Carolina has zero wins over a playoff level team and they have three losses over first off teams that you say are bad and second off teams that are good according to you. they also lose the head to head against the other nine and three SEC teams
You made sense until you started making a case for South Carolina. They lost to a Bama team that lost to Vandy and got blown out by OU. South Carolina has no business even being discussed.
@@AlexDundon South Carolina also blew out OU and Vandy, and the loss to bama was by 2 pnts on the road. Yea a loss is a loss but that was 2 months ago while bama nearly got shut out by a bad OU team last week. South Carolina also just beat Clemson who the committee considered better than bama and definitely could end up being a playoff team . There are solid arguments for both sides.
@@AlexDundon I hear you, I was just trying to use the obvious example that for some reason is super popular (I think SC should be the 3rd in line regarding 9-3 SEC teams hoping for a playoff bid, but it feels like SC will somehow be ahead of the 2 other 9-3 hopefuls who both beat sc this season)
Don’t care what anyone says, this new playoff format has made this season, especially these last few weeks, so exciting. I think there’s some tweaks that can be made going forward but I love the 12 team format so much.
Agree completely. I've went from no championship game to BCS to 4 to 12. This has been the most fun I've had in a season since Texas won it all. Now if OT rules could get tweaked a bit towards the old ones id be happy.
Says who? If SMU loses, they will have the same number of losses as Miami, while playing a much weaker schedule. Mark my words... if Clemson wins, SMU will be left out of the playoff spot, and it is a definite possibility that Miami (as the 2nd ACC team) will get invited.
@@keitha.563 guarantee you Georgia makes it even if they lose the SEC title game, Georgia had the hardest schedule of anyone in the country and Miami was the 28th hardest schedule
@nathangray1253 exactly this! People don't understand that this is a benefit of playing a hard schedule. They've had tough losses, but have beaten some of the best teams
@BamaKing-he2gd sec has fallen off hard this year, Bama sux georgia should've lost to G tech if the refs called it correctly. Bama would lose to ASU. Now that Bama isn't one of the only schools paying players the field has spread out a bit more.
Nothing will "break"... Picking the top 12 teams will always mean some tough calls, but with 12 teams, if you aren't good enough to be clearly top 12 then it's so much less tragic than being a #5 team missing out on a 4 team playoff... You'll get over it.
Insane how? We should be a 2 loss team. Refs interjecting themselves and starting QB going doing in first half shot our chances of winning. UNLV I do get being insane.
@@Hedquarters Alabama still has a better resume than USCe and has the H2H. Losses are only one part of the equation. Alabama is superior in other aspects.
I could see the committee hesitant to put a 3 loss team in because it sets a precedent. With thay being said, I would much much rather see South Carolina than Alabama for multiple reasons. One, I'm so sick of Alabama and them just getting in by name and 2 I think South Carolina is the better team despite the head to head but I could see the committee leaving them out because of the loses and not wanting to set that precedent of a three loss non conference champion in.
@@silverblade43 Alabama is superior by name recognition. USC is better in every aspect in both sides of the ball. USC and Bama isn’t as good as SC at the end of the season. Only Bama fans think they should get in. Everyone else thinks SC should go. Rightfully so.
They beat Georgia who also beat Texas. Blew out lsu and beat SC. They also have one of the highest amount of ranked wins. That's the benefit of playing a tough schedule.
@BamaKing-he2gd Bama has 3 losses, and two look really bad. That outweighs the win over GA. Plus, turns out GA isn't that strong, so that win is diminished.
@halodisciple8459 SC has 3 losses...and not only lost to Bama, but also got blown out by Ole Miss. They also lost to lsu, who Bama beat by 30. None of SC's wins are as good as beating Georgia.
-Oregon, Ohio St, Penn St, Indiana, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Notre Dame are all 100% locks right now (8) -SMU should be a lock but I’ll put them in their own category because we don’t have precedent yet on how the committee will handle conference championship losers (9) -MW and Big 12 champions are locks (11) -Last spot will either go to Clemson if they win or, if not, whoever is highest ranked on Tuesday between Alabama, South Carolina, and Miami (12). The two teams not ranked highest of those 3 will be eliminated on Tuesday as none of those teams play again. I’ve already eliminated Ole Miss because there is no chance they pass Bama in the rankings since they were behind them last week even if they could theoretically be ranked higher than SC and Miami
How would you feel about a 24 team playoff? College Football Tournament Turn the college football playoff into the college football tournament. Expand it to 24 teams and have 8 slots dedicated to a playoff bye. Conferences that have made the four team playoff format have what I call final four rights. If they have 16 or more teams they are guaranteed two playoff spots. If they have less than 16 teams, but still have 8 or more teams; they will be granted 1 playoff spot. To earn final four rights your conference must make the final four in the tournament. If your conference earns final four rights it will gain 1 or 2 guaranteed playoff spots depending on how many teams your conference has. The final four rights will encourage teams to realign to conferences with guaranteed spots. This will help the pac-12 grow and it will eventually open up another conference when they break into the final four. This will help direct conference realignment. The 8 byes are reserved for division winners only. If your conference has more than 16 teams you'll break your conference into two divisions. You can rotate the divisions every year. In the Big Ten there would be 2 nine team divisions. You'd play everyone in your division once, plus one team in the other division. You'd still have 3 games available to schedule a tune up game or a rivalry game. The winner of each division would get the guaranteed playoff spot and possible bye. You could set up the entire Power 4 like this and the Pac-12 could eventually catch up. You'd eliminate conference championships and play the first round the same weekend as conference championship games. The college football committee would select who gets a bye and the final 16-13 spots. The group of five are guaranteed 3 spots if they are ranked. If they win their division or conference they could potentially get a bye. Boise State this year is an example. The first round would be played at neutral sites just like conference championships. The second round would be rewarded to the division winners who received a top 8 seed. They would receive a home playoff game. Every game after that is a neutral field. This would make the season at most 17 games. That's the same amount a sec or big ten champ loser might play this season if they can make a run in the playoffs and make to the championship final.
No 3 loss teams unless you win a conference championship. Or if there aren’t enough teams with fewer losses. The regular season has to mean everything. You should have to earn your spot by performing on the field not because somebody likes you better.
@@bearinmind50georgia went 10-2...if they lose to Texas they still went 10-2. You can't call them a 3 loss team when you compare them to a Tennessee or Miami that also went 10-2
As a Bama fan, I agree with your sentiment. I don’t want to see them lose again either… But like I said, in an earlier post on this video… The mystique of Bama lives on… No one wants to play them in the first round… I feel like the mystique should be there until Bama proves on the field that they’re no longer worthy of that mystique… we may be at that point … and if so I say put them on the field and let them lose that fourth game… We as fans and Bama players and especially Bama coaching staff need to understand where we are as a program
Much respect to a Bama fan saying something along those lines. I can't stand Bama BUT I respect their success and realize they have been an outstanding program. But when you lose to both Vandy and Oklahoma...
Agreed… And likewise early season games are now being seen as more and more important… I think if the committee does not value strength of schedule, enough and their selections… Then college football will default into a situation where most teams want their out of conference games to be cream puffs… And college football will be less interesting as a result
No 3 loss teams unless you win a conference championship. Or if there aren’t enough teams with less losses. The regular season has to mean everything. You should have to earn your spot by performing on the field not because somebody likes you better.
The only 3 loss teams that should be even considered are Conference Champions or Runner-ups, it is ridiculous to consider South Carolina, Tennessee or Alabama while BYU, Iowa State and Arizona State all have lost only twice.
If Clemson wins the ACC and steals a bid in the playoffs, I personally understand that's the rules but at the same time a hot South Carolina team who beat Clemson at home should also deserve a spot. Just seems reasonable.
@@davidfence6939 autobids allow the playoff to have some structure. Every other professional sport has some sort of playoff wackiness. Like with the NFL, where a 9-8 division champ gets in over a 12-5 runner up. This is for the national championship, not the SEC/BIG 10 championship. Those conferences are already going to have more at large bids than the ACC and BIG 12 so I don’t know why you’re complaining.
Southern Methodist schedule is weak AF. If they have two losses they should be dropped out. Certainly should not get in ahead of South Carolina or Alabama.

If a team is punished for playing in the conference championship, I think at least one of 2 things would likely happen in the future: Teams would refuse to play in conference championships, and/or the SEC and Big 10 will pull out of the playoffs if their teams are punished for losing their conference championship. The SEC and Big 10 are Big money. They're not going to allow the future of their conference championships to be jeopardized by the playoff committee.
Potential outcome (playoff seeding): 1. Oregon (13-0) - BIG10 champ (auto in) 2. Texas (12-1) - SEC champ (auto in) 3. ASU or ISU (11-2) - Big12 champ (auto in) 4. Boise or UNLV (11-2) - G5 champ (auto in) 5. Notre Dame (12-1) - Locked in 6. Georgia (10-3) - SEC R-up (in) 7. Tennessee (10-2) - Locked in 8. Ohio State (10-2) - Locked in 9. Penn State (11-2) - BIG10 R-up (in) 10. Indiana (11-1) - Locked in 11. SMU (11-2) *currently #8- ACC R-up 12. Clemson (10-3) - ACC champ (auto in) The committee stated that they won’t punish teams currently in the playoffs that have to play in their championship games if they were to lose, but we shall see. The only conference champ runner-up that would get left out is Clemson if they lost because they are not currently in the Top 12.
@ the playoff rules state “4 highest ranked conference champs get the top 4 bids and the lowest rank conference champ gets the 12-seed”. Right now Boise is higher ranked than Clemson in the scenario above.
@@stupickles1 It won't, if UNLV upsets Boise. Even if Clemson upsets SMU, Clemson will still be ranked a bit above UNLV like they are now (going by AP/Coaches polls). And no, comparing the MW champs to the now-typical ACC or new B12 champs isn't comparing varsity to JV. Otherwise, you'd unquestionably have the G5 conferences in D1AA treading water in there. SMU at the top of the ACC was just a mid-major. BYU who was leading the B12 and in the upper part and ranked, was just a mid-major. Boise, SD-State, Colorado St, Fresno, and SJ-State are joining the new P12 with Washington St & Oregon St who were "unofficially" part of the MW this year being in their "P2" conference/non-conference. It just has a tougher in-conference schedule (and in-conf SoS can vary in these now very big P4s with way too many teams), but many times not a tougher OOC schedule that's smaller (see Boise almost beating #1 Oregon).
If we were still under the Four Team Playoff, the most likely list would be: 1 Oregon, 2 Texas or Georgia, 3 Notre Dame, and Penn State at number 4. That would really annoy many people.
If the 4 team playoff still existed then the top 4 would be different because the schedules that most of the teams played wouldn't have been as it is now thanks to conference realignment and getting rid of divisions
Why does everybody dump in Indiana and give Penn State a pass? They both lost to tOSU with PSU losing at home and Indiana on the road obviously with different margins. Indiana has looked dominant, while PSU has had some close games. I'm not an Indiana homer as I'm a Northwestern alumnus, but it is hard to make an argument for PSU over Indiana especially if they get blown out by Oregon.
If you want the November games to mean that much more, Carolina's resume jumps Bama (blowout loss to OU, who Carolina dominated in Norman) and Ole Miss (loss to seven-win UF). On the other hand, Carolina has won 6 straight with wins over three ranked teams, TAMU, Missouri and Clemson (in Clemson), while Bama and Ole Miss each have one ranked win in the last 6 games. So it really just comes down to what means more: strictly head-to-head or complete resume and November performance?
1. Georgia is in even with a loss, I think. They already have a win against Texas, so that would cancel it out. Plus, it's Georgia. 2. Alabama and SMU are a package deal, at this point, and South Carolina and Clemson are a package deal. The committee currently has Alabama ahead of South Carolina, and becauase of head-to-head, that's unlikely to change, *unless* South Carolina can claim they've beaten the ACC champ. If Clemson wins, the committee has the reason they can point to to bump South Carolina ahead of Alabama. And as much as I think it's unfair, SMU won't get the committee's respect without a win against a so-called top-tier team like Clemson. Also, SMU would have a very recent loss to a common opponent that South Carolina recently beat. So if SMU wins, Alabama gets in with them. If Clemson wins, South Carolina gets in with them.
@ if Indiana had two losses than they would be out. But 1 loss and the only other teams that could get in have 3. It would easily got to Indiana. (I’m not including Miami bc they will not have played 1 team that finished ranked at the end of the year. Alabama would be the first team out cause they have the h2h over SC.
I love Notre Dame bias , the loose one game to Northern Illinois , Indiana has one loss to Ohio State, Indiana plays in the big Ten , Notre Dame plays all the military academies . But yet Notre Dame is a lock ? Go figure
South carolina lost to LSU and Alabama by a combined 5 points. And the LSU game they should've won if it wasn't for terrible calls and them losing their QB. But they can beat anyone in these playoffs and are playing their best ball now. That why they should get in.
Why have a conference championship if it won't matter? A three-loss or even five-loss conference champion is still a conference champion, and they're putting the five best conference champions in! I love it, winning conference championships actually matters again!
Such an ignorant comment. Have you looked at the standings? Only 1 team is undefeated and only 6 have one loss. There's another 4 with 2 losses in the top 12 AP. With a 12 team play off there will be times with 3 loss teams hell could even be a year with 4 loss teams in. If Clemson beats SMU they are in with 3 losses. Bama has a win over Georgia and if Georgia beats Texas again Texas will still be in with 2 losses. Look at the NFL when teams with 6 plus losses get into the playoffs. That's what college is going to bud. Get used to seeing more teams with losses in the playoffs.
@Red-Wolf-Ben you are right. I didn't include conference championships. I was only thinking of schedule and just blanked on the championships. I do agree that a 3 loss champion should be in.
How about an RPI system for college football? It worked for college basketball for many years and would still work today. To calculate RPI, it's the sum of the products of 25% of the team record, 50% of the team strength of schedule, and 25% of the opponents' strength of schedule. The top seven teams, as ranked by the RPI and aren't automatically in as conference champions, get the at-large bids to the playoffs.
@ They are the second best team in the country. If the committee doesn’t have the balls to do it, the committee is a fraud. They aren’t losing to UNLV, so it’s a moot point anyway.
Army in the top 25 with one loss still have the ccg against a formally ranked Tulane and then take on Navy. To me, Army and Navy are blue blood teams that are not talked about because of their history. Army won 3 national titles. Their only loss was to a ranked Notre Dame. Indiana loss big time to Ohio State. Just think that G5 schools don't get the credit that they deserve. Every conferences have cupcakes. Both Boise State and Army never loss to a cupcake teams like the top SEC, Big 12 schools and Ohio State. SEC always be overrated at the end of the season, and sometimes they get destroyed in bowls and playoffs.
Sec has one 80 percent of the ncaa championships in the last 23 years, you sound stupid as fck talking about army and navy!!! Army would have got beat by 70 if notredame didn’t let up by the 3rd and they play no one!!! Army would beat no 1 in the SEC!!!
Overrated? LMFAO Crying SEC bias and calling us overrated when you play Lehigh, FAU, Rice, Temple, Tulsa, UAB, USA, North Texas..... Your quality win is currently who??? SEC isn't overrated. That fact just pisses you off. Army only has played one team with a pulse in the regular season and got SHREDDED. If ND puts almost 50 on you, 12 of the SEC's 16 put a minimum of 30 on you with 7-8 putting 40+ easy. You play in a CUPCAKE CONFERENCE!!!! G5 probably need a separate playoff. You can't use the portal as Army or Navy. So that's a HUGE downside in trying to compete with P4. Along with the fact your NIL will never be on par. And then most of the AAC is a joke. Since you call the SEC overrated and think your AAC is so great tell me who in your conference outside of the top 3 teams (Army, Memphis, Tulane) would have a shot at winning more than 3 games in the SEC. I mean if you rolled the dice and got Kentucky, Auburn, and Miss. State you might get 3 easy wins...might. I think Kentucky would probably beat the rest of your conference. Auburn too. Your best chance at a win for the rest of your conference would be Miss. State. I get the frustration, but you shouldn't schedule a non-con like Lehigh and then bemoan SEC teams for scheduling similar level competition. You're doing the same damn thing. That's called pot meeting kettle.
@@mr.everything2000 The AAC is mid in general, but they cry bias at everything. Maybe if they'd beef up their non-con with BG10, SEC, B12 teams they'd have a little more respect. They played f'in Lehigh and ya'll. They need 2 P4 level programs so a loss is negated by winning the other. And before the OP comments, we open with Virginia Tech next year in Atlanta. We have Coast Carolina and SC State as our other two non-con. CCU had a team in the playoff discussion not too long ago. A bit of an up and down program. SC State is the supposed cupcake that will give us everything and then some and is ranked in FCS polls this year. And we still have away games at Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Missouri, LSU. And we still play Clemson. And we get Alabama, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Vanderbilt at home. So yeah, one "cupcake" FCS opponent. The main reason we schedule that is it pays a good amount to a state school and helps them out. Allows their families to see them on a bigger state, possibly on TV if they can't come in person, etc. We rotate in state schools every year. Played Wofford this year. Sometimes they catch us at our worst like The Citadel did not too long ago and got a win. The SEC overrated comment shows me someone who is very casual and barely dives deeper than surface level when it comes to CFB.
I love TN, they're my team. I live 40 miles from Neyland stadium and I've been a fan since I was old enough to say Go Vols. I want them to be in the playoffs. BUT, that loss to Arkansas was gross. Not the margin, it was only 3 points, just the loss itself. Is that enough to keep them out? I don't know, but if I had to be honest, I don't think a playoff team is worthy if they've lost to such a bad team. Also there's the other loss, which was to GA, and we were decisively beaten in that game. But I know one thing, we definitely deserve it more than Bama.
The biggest problem is people take the lazy route and just count losses. "X team has two losses and Y team has three losses, so X should get in." This lazy thinking is what incentivizes teams to schedule as many cupcakes non-conference as possible. This is why we get a one third of the schedule being a snoozefest beatdown of small schools. If we want exciting games, then we need to properly account for strength of schedule. Many times losing by a small amount to a good team is a better outcome than winning by a small amount to a mediocre team. Take Penn State as an example - this year winning against Bowling Green by 7 and later losing to Ohio State by 7. Clearly beating Bowling Green by only 7 is a much worse outcome than losing to Ohio State by 7. But with the binary thinking of "win good, loss bad" Penn State's close win over Bowling Green is an afterthought. Humans SUCK at ranking the teams. At most, someone can watch 4 games per week, so you're only seeing a small fraction of the games played. Analytics sees everything. Just create a composite of the good analytics - evaluating the best teams so far, the best teams going forward, and strength of record. Use the composite to rank the teams. No more bias. Proper weighting for strength of schedule. And most importantly, exciting games being scheduled again in the non-conference schedule. As a Penn State fan who doesn't like the SEC at all - the SEC is harmed most by the lazy thinking. The analytics are clear - Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama deserve to be in the playoffs.
@@lyrix.piedra And then turn around and lose to a team with only 4-5 wins. When we start ranking on potential over actual results the games lose meaning. Its not a beauty pageant. Game play, winning on the field has to matter. Even if we all believe a team has the potential athletes to beat another teams athletes. Alabama had their shot and they missed it. Ole miss had their shot and they missed it. etc.
Hey, well done guy. You did a great job summarizing scenarios. We all need to keep in mind though, this is the first 12 team playoffs and anybody who gets left out wouldnt of had a chance in any season prior.
Honestly before Tulane's loss I was kinda rooting for an ASU loss just so we had a better chance of having no Big 12 team in the playoffs for the shits and giggles
Here's my solution to all of this. Break up all FBS conferences and rebuild. Conference champs get automatic bids for the playoff, everyone else get bowl games. No more independents. If you wanna be independent, then you are eliminated from playoff contention. Conferences are: American, ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Conf USA, Mid-American, Mountain West, Pac-12, SEC and Sun Belt. That a 10 team playoff. Seeding is determined by the Conference champ that scores the most points in the season. Tie breaker would be less points given up. The top two teams get a bye. Conferences have teams in the region. This will break up the "Powerhouse" Conferences of old to spread out the tough schools in every region. Therefore, every conference is worthy. No games are played out of conference. Each conference is broken up with an east west or north south. If done right, that will be around 6 or 7 games to determine who goes to the conference championship game. Conf champ adds 1 more game. Conference champs will have an 8 games season to enter the playoff. 8-4-2-1. The last teams to play will end up having a 12 game season. This would make it a lot better. Because the name of the game would be winning your conference. Football rankings would be of ZERO significance. Preseason rankings only benefit the rich. Bowl games can be made up of the runner's up for conf champs for automatic bids and teams that scored the most points. Since all games are conference games, there are no cupcake FCS teams to run up the score artificially. So now, instead of some arbitrary method of selecting schools to bowl games, it will all be based on what you did on the field. No more 6 wins to bowl eligibility. You gotta be putting it down every week to make the case.
The issue is that the committee tried to build a fair system, by providing auto qualifiers for the G5 teams, and all of the conference winners. Fair system means we aren't getting the 12 BEST teams. Everyone understands this, but then complains when a few teams are going to get left out that are actually better than the G5 team or a Clemson team that may get in with 3 losses. I'd rather have the 12 best teams,,,,but that isn't what they created.
It’s the same concept as all these “DEI hires” our government has been making based on race, gender, & other irrelevant factors. Same damn concept; fair to those very few who benefit from it, but a total rip off to everyone who deserves to be there based on their credentials.
I love how people are mad at alabama for having a chance to make the playoffs due to a system that every other team pushed for to stop alabamas dominance 😏 Edit- Im a bama fan i dont think we deserve to be in the playoffs. But i cant name anyone behind us that deserves it either Olemiss? Clemson? Miami? South carolina has the best argument but head to head matters. Bama may not deserve a spot but neither do alot of teams even ones that will make it in and people need to accept that strength of schedule ranked wins and head to head all give bama the edge in an argument to sneak in.
If Alabama didn't lose to 2 unranked teams, they would be in. They don't deserve to be in with 3 losses. I don't care who they beat. What matters is who they lost to.
in my opinion the committee really needs to think about schedule. some of these teams are playing terrible teams and can just stack up on wins meanwhile teams in the SEC and Big 10 are playing teams that bring real competition
nice try. Speaking of beavers. If you recall about 25 years ago a beaver player beat up the oregon duck mascot in a game. He got kicked out of school and ended up in the Air Force where I became his supervisor. Guess what? He was a dirtbag Airman and was kicked out for stealing. SMH
I think the committee has stated previously before the bracket season began that head to head and strength of schedule, were the two most important factors… as a Bama fan. I think Bama scores pretty high in both… but every team that’s now “on the bubble”… Can only look at themselves… At one point in the season, each controlled their own destiny… All they had to do was continue to win… I do think it’s interesting that a lot of the bracket shows talk about the mid-level seeds in the tournament when considering the bracket arrangement and having to face Bama, they refer to it as being punished in their first round game by having to face Bama… Rightly or wrongly the mystique lives on… and I think, rightly… Until Bama proves on the field that they have changed and are no longer worthy of the mystique
If you think about it we could possibly get two group of 5 teams in the playoffs. The committee already said they weren't going "punish" teams for losing their conference championship game. So if UNLV beats Boise State they both could get into the playoffs if Boise State is ranked high enough and Clemson loses their title game against SMU.
I was thinking about this. A historically bad team gets in as a Cinderella. Now imagine if they win the next three games. You are talking about a National Championship
If you think there is anything more than a 0% chance that 2 MWC teams get into the playoffs... you are living in a fantasy world! I'll give you my house if that happens... I'm not joking!
@@wesleymilligan7131 Ok, but I think that answers your question right there... why aren't people talking about it? Because there is a "0.000000000000000001% chance it could happen." People don't waste their time talking about $hit that definitely is not going to happen, and if there is a 0.000000000000000001% chance it could happen... that's the same as, it definitely is not going to happen.
Regardless of what happens, this was a great year to start the 12 team playoffs. The final spots are going to be interesting because there are real arguments to be made for several teams. Do we reward teams with 3 loses but played a harder schedule and have good wins? Or do we reward teams that won more with an easier schedule but have worse loses? It should be interesting. I also fully believe that losing the conference championship should not hurt a team because they are playing an extra game against a good team and that lose should be nullified by just making the conference championship. It would encourage teams to not try and make conference championships if losing hurts them.
I think UNLV getting in if they beat BSU is a bit of a stretch but we will see. That said it’s going to be a tough game, BSU almost lost the last time but the game is at home this time.
SOS is bogus..way too many average SEC in top 25 that shouldn't be/ever should have been there. SEC pads their SOS with preseason top 25 that are bogus.. Missouri, Vandy, LSU, A&M just to name a few.
Because they ddint lose to unranked teams and have the best wins of the 3 teams as well. Better wins, better losses. Should be obvious to the unbiased.
If Georgia can make a conference game they can make the playoffs the conference game is just like a playoffs game so the should be easy for the committee just eliminate the ones who didn't make the conference game cause everybody had a chance
This is exactly what Lane Kiffin was talking about out. Why even play in the championship game if you get punished for losing while another team that didn’t earn the right sits on the sidelines? And no players get hurt and less film on your team.
Southern Methodist schedule is weak AF. If they have two losses they should be dropped out. Certainly should not get in ahead of South Carolina or Alabama. SMU would be 7-5 playing South Carolina schedule.
Asking 2 teams to play 12 games then a conference title game then 3 or 4 more games against elite level teams is ridiculous. I know these college teams are basically professionals but these players need to be payed by a university collective bargaining agreement. They are running the wheels off these kids. Ruining the game for more and more cash. I hope the players strike. And I’m a Capitalist to the core. Corporate elites are killing my game. 6 teams is too much but I will take it over 8,10 or 12
They need to go to a 64 team bracket. 128 teams would be ideal this way DEI is fully expressed which is what DEI is about. Hopefully Slippery Rock gets in but Delaware could steal their spot. Would love to see Appalacian State and Georgetown U get in too, as well as Sweet Briar and Mary Washington.
It’s hard for me to accept that a two loss OSU gets a bye this weekend and then goes to the playoff. Not specifically them, but specifically that scenario. If you have conference championships, then it should not be a 12 team playoff. It should be all the conference champions and ND. 12 team is too much with title games.
I find it funny that a lot of people are saying a 3-loss team should not get in while some of those same people were calling for CU to get in no matter what. Make it make sense
If the champs are as follows: SEC - Texas ACC - Clemson B1G - Oregon XII - Arizona State MWC - Boise State Then the playoff bracket should be: BYES - (1) Oregon, (2) Texas, (3) Boise State, (4) Arizona State (5) Notre Dame v. (12) SMU (6) Penn State v. (11) Clemson (7) Georgia v. (10) Indiana (8) Tennessee v. (9) Ohio State If the champs are: SEC - Georgia ACC - SMU B1G - Oregon XII - Arizona State MWC - Boise State Then the bracket should be: BYES - (1) Oregon, (2) Georgia, (3) SMU, (4) Boise State (5) Texas v. (12) Miami (6) Penn State v. (11) Arizona State (7) Notre Dame v. (10) Indiana (8) Tennessee v. (9) Ohio State
Georgia is a lock still, can't penalize (as in dropping them out of the playoffs when they would have been had they not played) for playing an extra game. Now will they drop Georgia's ranking? I could see that. Honestly, for the foreseeable future, the two teams playing in the SEC and BIG 10 championship win or lose will be in the playoffs just based off of the competition both conferences have. It would have to be some absolutely bizarre non conference play outcomes change that. To be really honest, SEC and BIG 10 are like 95% guaranteed for the future to have 3 teams in both each year.
No way a 1-loss Big10 team (Indiana) could lose out to a 3-loss team (regardless of whether in SEC). Miami is ranked #14, so I can't imagine them getting in.
The playoff committee will look for any reason to add more ESECPN teams. If the situation allows, they'll drop SMU, Miami, Indiana or UNVL if they win to add Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina weather they deserve it or not.
If Clemson steals a bid, whose spot should they steal?
Alabama

Who else is annoyed that Colorado falls 10 spots to Jayhawks who beat BYU but Bama falls 5 when losing to OU who only beat Bama
You make a good point 🤔.
Saying that the old system sucked is the understatement of the decade!
Something needs to be said here: Miami was #4 at one point, but what about SMU? I think the committee is forgetting they are in the ACC. If Miami got up that high and went back to #6 before losing, why is SMU still lower than them?

Funny thing about Indiana’s résumé is that if Michigan or Ohio State had the exact same, they would be considered absolute no brainer locks to be in. How would you feel about a 24 team playoff?
College Football Tournament
Turn the college football playoff into the college football tournament.

SMU at the top of the ACC was just a mid-major. BYU who was leading the B12 and in the upper part and ranked, was just a mid-major.
Tenn, Georgia, Ohio st are all locks
Agree
As a Georgia fan, I want to see South Carolina get in.
If the championship games don’t matter then get rid of it. Seriously.
Interesting argument. Can't say I disagree with your logic... and I agree that SMU had better beat Clemson if they want to get into the playoff.
That's why I think Clemson wins, it gives validation for Georgia and South Carolina
I believe it's rigged, entertainment etc
8:32 If there is one spot left and these are the teams that can get it… Indiana gets it, and it’s not close. Shouldn’t be at least
It's not close? Why not put Army in then? They are undefeated except for the one ranked team they played... just like IU.
Go figure
I agree, Indiana should be a no brainer

These other 8 teams seem more relevant now that they are considered in the hunt. That has to help their recruiting and optics.

South carolina lost to LSU and Alabama by a combined 5 points. And the LSU game they should've won if it wasn't for terrible calls and them losing their QB. But they can beat anyone in these playoffs and are playing their best ball now. That why they should get in.
But LSU sucks...plain and simple. Bama is either good, or really bad as well. I would put SC in over Bama. SC is hot right now.
No 3 loss team should be even considered. Why even have a win loss record if it doesn't matter.
@@bvrsqzr3569 Nice to be on the same page!
Strength of schedule has to matter too, and who the three losses are to. Otherwise, just play cupcakes and avoid tough games.
I would love to see South Carolina get in that is the dream 😃
Then tiebreakers means nothing.

If Cleamson still a spot all the 9 3 teams are scred
South Carolina wont get in unless Clemson beats SMU. That’s their best hope.
Otherwise, South Carolina will finish either #13 or #14 with Ole Miss.
Boise State has lost one game by 3 points on the road at Oregon. If the lose, they still deserve to be in.
Not a chance they're getting in if they lose... because there isn't one chance in a billion that 2 MWC teams will get in.
@ They are the second best team in the country. If the committee doesn’t have the balls to do it, the committee is a fraud. They aren’t losing to UNLV, so it’s a moot point anyway.

@@cnelsonlv99 Y so bitter?
No. Their SoS is waaaaay to low to lose in the MWC and still make the playoff.
We took care of those teams already in orderly fashion. Go Irish!!
Army is mid, Tulane by a mil(ND fan)
Tennessee struggles on road, but if they luck up and get a home game, they could make semi finals at neutral site
TENNESSEE IS A LOCK...from a Indiana fan.
They are locked in most likely versing ohio state
The biggest problem is people take the lazy route and just count losses.
What were the non conference games of those SEC teams? We don't want to "incentivize cupcake non conference schedules" .
Go watch an Alabama game they’re inconsistent as ever. They don’t even know themselves and you’re trying to put them in ? 🤡

Let me guess.. You think Alabama should be in, right?
It’s the same concept as all these “DEI hires” our government has been making based on race, gender, & other irrelevant factors. Same damn concept; fair to those very few who benefit from it, but a total rip off to everyone who deserves to be there based on their credentials.
I love how people are mad at alabama for having a chance to make the playoffs due to a system that every other team pushed for to stop alabamas dominance 😏
Edit- Im a bama fan i dont think we deserve to be in the playoffs. But i cant name anyone behind us that deserves it either

South carolina has the best argument but head to head matters.
Bama may not deserve a spot but neither do alot of teams even ones that will make it in and people need to accept that strength of schedule ranked wins and head to head all give bama the edge in an argument to sneak in.

in my opinion the committee really needs to think about schedule. some of these teams are playing terrible teams and can just stack up on wins meanwhile teams in the SEC and Big 10 are playing teams that bring real competition
Ole Miss should get in over Alabama
Whoa, hey now - we can’t forget about the PAC-12 champion Oregon State Beavers!

I think the committee has stated previously before the bracket season began that head to head and strength of schedule, were the two most important factors… as a Bama fan. I think Bama scores pretty high in both…
but every team that’s now “on the bubble”… Can only look at themselves… At one point in the season, each controlled their own destiny… All they had to do was continue to win… I do think it’s interesting that a lot of the bracket shows talk about the mid-level seeds in the tournament when considering the bracket arrangement and having to face Bama, they refer to it as being punished in their first round game by having to face Bama…
Rightly or wrongly the mystique lives on… and I think, rightly… Until Bama proves on the field that they have changed and are no longer worthy of the mystique

I take Indiana to get in. 11-1 in the Big 10 is impressive no matter the schedule. You can only play the teams on your schedule.
