Yes, there is a 6 ft. ramp version that cost slightly more and would be very helpful for when the rack is higher off the ground than what it is on my vehicle. (i.e. probably most SUV)
If you order from vevor it comes with bar straps and ratchet straps. The rack is the same and cheaper. I have two Ave ton fat tire bikes so I got the rack for two first trip Minnesota to Florida worked great. Good luck
Thanks so much for providing such a great video with great videography some of these guys do not know how to make a video and don't have proper angles like you did also that piece that you attached with the four bolts was the last piece on my carrier and I couldn't figure out how it went on because the instructions do not show it and I looked all over TH-cam for how to install it and then there you are thanks so much.
Very informative. I have this rack. I’ve had some difficulty getting my very heavy ebike secure. If you were buying new ratchet straps, what would you recommend? Thanks.
I'm certainly not a ratchet strap expert and haven't tried but 2 types so my opinion wouldn't be worth that much. In the video, I tried 2 different types and both work. I really liked the auto retractable one because it is easier to work while one of my hands is holding the bike up. The problem with that one is I can imagine that some kid would walk behind my car and release it by just pushing the big red button and create issues for me. Since I also use chains and locks to secure my bike, there wouldn't be any danger of them stealing the bike on a whim, but would still be irritating if someone did that.
@@richarddkearney good point. I had the same problem trying to retract the band while holding the bike up. I’ve got an Ariel Kepler which is a tall heavy bike.
I'm old and I don't remember exactly. What I think happened is while driving down the road the handlebars shifted which cause some slack in the straps and that damaged some parts on the bike.
If you take the bolts off you will have to put them back on. However, I have changed to a different connection method and with the new method I don't have to lay on the ground and tighten the bolts. I can do it just leaning over the rack.
The straps will have to be purchased separately if you don't already have some. I just type "ratchet straps" in Amazon search and picked a set. I also got the auto retract straps and have a link in the description, but I'm not sure they are the best type to get
Use motorcycle handle bar ties down adapter liter two tie downs and that sucker doesn’t go anywhere. Too much work?? I leave mine in my truck most of the time. I can have my bike on secure and chained up in less then 3min
Well I tried handle bars tie downs and I believe I have 2 videos talking about what happened to my bike afterwards. I do not recommend those for ebikes. However, I do wish I had a truck or even a van, but I don't, so I deal with what I have.
Did you buy the straps from Black Widow, or did you get them locally? When I purchased the rack, nothing was said about the straps being an extra purchase.
I purchased them off Amazon. I did not research it at all and brought 4 of one type and then 2 of another type. I guess all types would work so I didn't recommend any.
Your heavy duty ratchet straps are overkill on 75# bike the placement is fine but if the heavy ratchet goes the wrong way your going to damage the car and or the bike. I didn’t notice but you need to lock the bike’s suspension or it could bounce out on you
I should have mentioned that in the video, if I didn't, but locking the suspension is something I do (as long as I remember). I'm getting better in doing a routine to lock when I put the bike on the rack and unlock when i take it off. However, when I first started, I would forget to either lock or unlock it about every other trip.
My suspension has a Lock switch on the top of the forks and I just turn it to the lock position and then back to the unlock position right before I go riding.
I got some damage the first time I tried it when the handlebars moved and got slack in the tie downs. On one of my videos I showed the damaged to my bike and told everyone not to use the handlebars, but due to my age (and/or memory) I no longer remember exactly what happened.
Well it is a motorcycle rack. I decided to put the bike in the same front wheel position as motorcycles go. If any part of the bike was more on one side, I would prefer it to be where I could see it better and that is the driver side. I was able to easily put the car with the rack and bike in my garage mainly because I could see the tire from the driver's side.
setting it up should be at home. Then the loading of the bike is just pushing it up the ramp and strapping it down. About 5 mins. Probably not going to find any other rack that will take less time at that point. Probably greater chance just walking to your car and having someone shanking you to take the car. Lot more valuable.
I have sen vidoes that show the front wheel dropping down and the a rod runs thru the wheel...alxo the back one...does that work on this rack? th-cam.com/video/GpA6u3KR7EQ/w-d-xo.html
I'm sure some would think so and that is the reason I wanted to make sure the entire process was shown. All the other videos I saw just say, "I put the rack on the car then put my bike on the rack and strapped it down" I was always thinking, why don't you show us how to put the rack on the car and why not show us what is involved in getting the bike on the rack and how would you strap it down since most haven't strapped a bike to a rack before.
Unstable in what way. I shook the bike and it didn't move at all and I've driven down the road at 70mph for about 100 miles a few times and didn't seem to move. What should I have done to show stability that I didn't do?
@@VictorCastillo-hb5bsit works great we have a rack for two bikes took it to Florida and back to Minnesota. Richard could be a little smoother but I would rather him be realistic. We just drive ours up the ramp that comes with it.
BTW for everybody's info..............this is a Black Widow 400L carrier w/ the 6 ft. ramp.

You Welcome and thank you very much for your kind words
I have the same rack for use with a motorcycle. I’ve hauled it on 400 mile plus trips four times. No problems. Just my 2 cents.
Thank you for the information
To lock the ebike down, I bought master lock cable locks. Ebike Hitch even has a hole in the rear where I pass the cable through and lock it down.
That sounds very workable

Glad you like them Joe!
Lock your front forks and you can keep the tension on the tie downs. :)

Do you have to tighten the 3 bolts at the bottom Every time you gonna use the ebike rack?

You just bent your derailleur hanger. Better check it out
I'm not sure I did, but it has been over a year and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I've seen a video like that too, however that isn't a standard option on this rack since it doesn't have any holes for that.

Way too much work when a dedicated rack made for E bikes is not that much more money. Young makes one that is not expensive and much simpler to use
