This is the Olympics of Music. Every time they played, from about '63 onward, they played like they'd been training and competing their entire lives for this one moment. One doesn't fully appreciate this until one has worked, trained, pursued something or taken great pains to build or create something, over the course of YEARS. The more I listen the more Inspired and Astonished I am.

True....but his North was Olympus. Not many could follow that...Hendrix could. Arvo Part did, albeit using the opposite path to the peak. Anyone else?

No one has scaled Tranes wall, period. Hendrix is not even close, I'm sick of layman's putting them in the same category, I see that all the time on TH-cam SMH.

@@tomscott1741 Hendrix was a very talented innovator but not really in the same game as Coltrane. Both Hendrix and Clapton tried to learn jazz and struggled with it. As for Arvo Part I can't really say.

I love listening to every version of Impressions and yea this one is FIRE. McCoy gets so into it, he's hammering the keys like his name is Mc Hammer.
But seriously this version is hot, they're going full force the whole time. It doesn't slowly build up, its just a constant volcanic explosion of music

The Laserlight disc/download 'Live at the Half Note' in mono sound and pictured in this video is an abomination. Even sites like 'Hi Res Audio' and 'Pro Studio Masters' carry it and the audio is terrible! Releasing it in FLAC and charging money for it is a crime. Save your cash and search for the stereo version online

People still like to hear it for the historical significance. Every live Coltrane recording will have something interesting That die hard fans will want to hear. But yeah they should have a "buyer beware" warning so you know what to expect. That's what the Grateful Dead did on some of their live releases that were sonically imperfect.
