  • THREE E-Scooters vs KICK Scooter Hill Climb Challenge
I took three escooters (antwi H10, iscooter i9, iscooter i9 MAX) to Sandy Lane to see if they could beat the ebikes or e-skateboards. I also took a Kick scooter from Razor.
With the Kick scooter stand a chance against the powered scooters? Well the results are maybe not what you'd expect!

I was curious and basically it confirmed my prejudices. May I suggest a kick bike which doesn’t require batteries, no recharging, gets you fit and will tackle your hill with ease. I average 10mph on 100% human power on my Yedoo Trexx, up to 12mph on my Kickbike Race Max. All on rolling terrain with hills included. Makes you fit and you won’t get nicked. It’s great fun!

. From what I've seen of your videos you live in a relatively flat area, but where I live there's nothing but hills like that one. I started out with a 500 watt scooter and it was dying constantly on hills, so I broke down and got the Nanrobot. My first try on my steepest hill I was grinning ear to ear as I cruised up it at 15 mph in Eco mode. If you live in a hilly area and you're a fairly heavy person such as me, do yourself a favor and just get a dual motor from the start, you'll save yourself the expense of buying it twice.
Love these comparison videos, very informative!

My Solar P1 will do most stupidly steep hills at 30 mph plus, I ride at a safe speed and only wind it on where safe. It does amazing in just rear wheel drive as well, it is very easy to ride in rear wheel drive mode. I love it.

tbf, my solution to this is carrying it upwards while walking, and going down hill and letting the scooter do the rest
my area leads upwards, and goes downwards. I walk for a bit longer, and then commute the rest of my trip to work
one thing i recommend getting if you own a scooter, electric or regular, is a strap. Its useful when going in for a quick trip to the store

With the kick scooters you're supposed to alternate legs every few kicks. It's become really efficitient if you do it like an ice skater and alternate every kick. Geting up a hill is using rhthym of your kicks in short burst and you can a little bit of momentum to make it easier. Lastly if you remove the brake and just use your shoe it's way better stopping power, but don't put your shoe on top like when your brake is on. You use your shoe lifiting your heel up and lightly letting it hit the wheel applying the pressure needed. I commute to the park and grocery store on mine sometimes. There's so many little techniques to making an efficient machine though I use the A5 DLX.

Thanks for the tips. I've been teaching my son to alternate - he's inherited that scooter. I had a really bad foot that day. I like the idea of being able to alternate every kick - i bet it looks odd though 😅

That was some climb on the Razor. I’m 67 and have been using push scooters since they came out first to the UK around 1999. I also have two e scooters. A carerra impel is-1, and a Pure air3. The air does okay up some hills. But neither goes up a 15% gradient. I’m 78-80kgs. I just put them in kedestrain mode and walk with it, as pulls itself. They’d all get up we weighed as much as a cat. I usually walk up a hill not with the push scooter. I have two. The micro classic. With the 200mm/8 inch wheel. And the Micro Sped with 145mm wheels. The classic is good for the long runs up to 10 miles our and back. But most of my rides are 4-5 miles. I mean I find the push scooters are less trouble, when your fit enough to ride em. I’m also cycling all my life.

Aren't electric scooters illegal in the UK? Do you have special permission to break the law?
Where can electric scooters be used? Currently, electric scooters can only be used on private land with the landowner's permission. It is effectively illegal to use them on public roads, on pavements, in cycle lanes and in pedestrian-only areas. ( advice from Halfords )
