A co-worker offered me one for a few bucks. I had bad knee problems so I decided to give it a try. First I felt a bit uncomfortable and ridiculous. Now a year is over and I love this thing. Train, tram, bus - no problem, personal record: 38 kilometres in one row. I ride it with pride not to have one of those electric garbage things, never have to fear it might get stolen cause I take it everywhere with me. Sometimes people comment it a bit condescendig but I'm 50+ and don't give a fxxk

I am 60, got 2 border collie puppies in January, walking 14,000 steps a day, and, as they grow, can't catch up with them anymore. So, to let them run at the pace they want on a leash I am getting a kick scooter to ride along them.

I am 40 I've been scooting for a year now; first on Hudora (not recommended) and just today I got my new micro scooter (big wheel). I've only seen 3 adults scooting in the whole time I've been doing it and I can hear people laughing or commenting when they see me but I so do not care!!! I'm now training my youngest 2,8 year old daughter to scoot and can't wait to scoot with both of my daughters :) It makes me feel younger and freeeeeee!!! Great review by the way! :)

Dude who gives a rip what others may think about you on a scooter. You're doing something positive for yourself, that's all that matters.
I'll be 48 in a month and am here looking for a good scooter for myself. I plan to get one for my 5 1/2 year old daughter so we can go cruising together this summer.
If I'm being honest, I've been considering one of these since before she was born. She just gives me a good excuse to get one!

I've never seen any commuters on kick-scooters here in the UK, but watching this video has made me wonder... why not? It seems like a perfectly viable method of transport, it's a lot smaller, and lighter than a bicycle (unless you have one of them crazy folding bikes with tiny wheels that look as ridiculous as their price) which means you don't have to worry as much about storage. You've pointed out many of the positives, it's speedy, helps you exercise and I'm guessing it was relatively cheap (compared to a commuter style bicycle)
I suppose people think it's embarrassing to be seen on them, but the sooner we all stopped giving a fuck about what strangers in the street think about us, the better! I'd love to cruise around town on a little kick-scooter!

sporkafife I recently just bought a Razor kick scooter at Target for about $40, which is super affordable compared to the bikes for sale there that were going for $125 at the very least. +sporkafife I'm seriously considering a kick scooter for the summer. I usually walk to the train station because the bus frequency is laughable, then walk from the station on the other end to work because the traffic is often walking pace or slower. Getting overtake while on the bus by a guy in a wheelchair makes you think.
Also been looking at electric scooters, but I don't think they are quite ready for prime time, especially at the price they are (and no, Razor scooters are not a viable electric option)
Edit - been looking at the Town 9, as it's folding and actually has a front break

50 year old, using micro scooter black in London. Use for pre and post bus journey. Makes a huge difference to Journey. Mile to bus stop, 45 mins bus, then 0.5 mile to the office. Love it, love it, love it. BTW, bus journey only £1. 65 so saving on tube fares and not standing, sitting in a grubby tube system. Yeah, people stare a little but they are nodding and smiling once they see me hop off bus and zip down the pavement. Well worth the money. Do it. !!

I started riding a kick scooter to school a month ago and already I manage to break it however I can still ride it around.
Just like yours I have a stand but unlike yours I have bigger wheels and my God there do make a huge difference. I rode a scooter with small wheels before and it was uncomfortable but with big wheels, its really smooth, even on rough surface and I can kick maybe 3 times before I get to the end of the pavement. Its that fast,
People do look at me and some laughed at me but who cares!
And it when I ride past kids they stare at me and cry to they mummy asking for one.

I love kick scooters and ride them a lot (I've got more models) trying to ignore stupid people who correlate them to kids. A kick scooter is really practical, but it isn't as fun as a unicycle. The funniest number of wheel is not two, but one. ;)
Stupid people correlate unicycles to clowns the same way they do with kick scooters and kids.
I also ride unicycles and waveboards and other vehicles that stupid people always have to say something bad about. But there will always be other people who will be inspired by you, who will appreciate you for doing what you do and your "sacrifice" will be bearable. The same thing happened with the bicycles (people used to laugh when noticing them for the first time). I hope that people will understand that kick scooters are really more practical and safer than bicycles in many situations. After 5 years since you published this video there are already more people riding kick scooters (and also unicycles).

Heck yeah I recently discovered the joy of adult scooting and find I actually like it more than a bike (which I also enjoy). Now am considering a kickbike. Props to you for riding unicycles! I never thought of trying that before or seeing it on public streets. Maybe it would be like scooting where I try it and think "Why didn't I try this sooner".

Currently I ride a Razer Pro, got it back when pro models were sold with adjustable handle bar height. I mostly ride it for the fun of it, I'm terrible but I practice tail whips , and mount with the occasional bri-flip from the ground every now and again.
I do the majority of my commuting via my bicycle because it's generally faster and easier to lock away where ever I go. Being a trick scooter I often find that using it for commute begins to tire my legs due to the constant vibrations, especially because the majority of paths I use are sidewalks, and the transition from tile to tile tires my legs after awhile.
All in all, I'd give kick scooters a thumbs up. I haven't had any personal experience with a scooter designed for commute, so I really look forward to you reviewing a scooter with air-filled tires. I'm extremely curious about rolling resistance to see if it's worth an investment for longer commutes

Hey Blunty, good for you man! I've been riding skateboards and building scooters since I was 9 years old lol. I'll be 61 this month 2/17/2016. I have had radiation treatments for cancer that fucked my back up for the past 17 years, can hardly stand straight up but I'm still here and to me this is just another obstacle to over come. I researched the many adult scooters out here and ended up with a Razor A5, with the extended 18" handlebars and with the kickstand, delivered for $59.00 from Wollyworld. I got the chrome with red wheels, it's built very well and holds my 255lbs with no problems at all. I've been using the A4 before this and paid twice as much, go figure! Even though I have back problems, riding this scooter to the store, 4.5 mile each way in the city for the past year has really improved my pain levels. Still messed up but I can ride the shit out of this one, so much better with the BIG 7" wheels. I think more people should seriously take a closer look at this fun transportation, whether they have back problems or not. It's great exercise, that I normally couldn't do. I fk'n love the title of your video LOL I checked out your other reviews and videos, I'm into quadcopters as well. You are an arrogant, rude, cocky bastard and I think you do an excellent job! Great video Blunty! I've owned an adult scooter for about a month now. After much research I eventually chose the Hudora Big Wheel GS205. It's pretty well built, lightweight, and foldable with ABEC5 bearings. I've been using my scooter to commute 3 miles to work and back 5 days a week. It's a real good workout and after 6 miles per day I'm pretty worn out, but I am just hooked on this thing! Some days I finish work and decide to get the train home, but by the time I get outside I'm holding my scooter and it's yelling at me! My legs are itching to jump on it and start kicking...so I do! I too am looking to purchase some pneumatic wheels as it is quite a shakey ride on bumpy terrain! Fortunately the Hudora scooters are pretty customisable and the company sells all the relevant parts on their website. With so many cyclists killed in tragic accidents in London, if not seriously injured and absolutely terrified of getting back on a bike, it made sense for me to try out a scooter, as they are permitted on footpaths! I don't think I will ever regret it!

I took my 5 year old shopping for a new scooter today and when I looked closer at the ones she liked I realised they were designed for adults. she picked the one she wanted and said daddy try it it's great so to be a good dad I had a little shot and instantly loved it! I am dying to buy one now but my main concern is what other people will think of me as I have not seen any adults in my area at all on a scooter. I'm 35 and are thinking how great it will be to park the car half way to work and scoot the rest. it's difficult not to care what people think.

Hi! Great review video! Relaxing view and narration. I ride the Micro for multi-mile commuting through the city or for grocery runs, and the Razor A5 Lux for joy rides and quick a to b commutes. The former is a smooth ride, very durable and $200. The latter is cheaper, with a bit of a shakier ride, and also holds up pretty well. I've have both for a couple years after some hardcore use, and so far, no problems whatsoever. The wheels on the A5 Lux have gotten a bit noisy though. Like the rubber is sliding on the mud guards. There is a freedom to riding a scooter. You can take it indoors no hassle, and work great for a minimalist lifestyle. And in fact, pair well with minimalist footwear. They're also excellent exercise. Bikini body all year round. Nay Sayers ought to join the herd and ride a commuter scooter! :)

Where I work is in urban downtown and you have to find parking and pay each time to park so it's more convenient to leave my car at the office and use the Solo-Wheel for small trips and errands. It's fun, convenient, and although I'm not getting cardio exercise, I do feel that my balance and core muscles are better for it. Larger wheels are good for street cracks, but the most important part is to have soft wheels if the pavement in your area has slightly rough surface. Pass a finger on the street surface, if you can feel the small stones in the concrete, batter don't go with stiff urethane wheels, it can be unbearable

    • @riverrhodes7394

That may be true, but the ones with pneumatic tyres are super slow so not much fun to ride bc you've got to kick more often than you would on one with polyurethane wheels.

I'm 70 and have been riding a Xootr for 2 1/2 years and I love em! 3 months ago I got a Kickbike and I ride at least 10 miles every day. Can't stay off the damn things! I can go through 4 inches of powdered snow with the kickbike and often have. The kickbike does great on compact snow and ice, just slow down...... fun!

Replacing the crappy stock bearings can be one way of improving the ride tenfold. In my opinion Bone's selection of Reds bearings are excellent and you can pick up for $10-30 depending on your bargin hunting skills. Even their stock standard Reds got me solid 2 minute spin time and lasted well past their lifepspans.
Also completely relate to working on your injury, comfort and health far outweigh what randoms think.

My 5 year old son has a 3 (technically 4) wheel Micro Maxi scooter, he often rides it on a paved 5 mile/8 kilometer trail nearby where we live while I do my best to keep up with him on foot.
Short of it, that wasn't working. So, I bought myself a Razor A5 lux, 200mm (8") wheels, fold up just like your micro. I also bought a pneumatic tire version of the same scooter, literally the next day. The pneumatic tires don't roll quite as well but do take up some of the road vibration. I haven't had a chance to ride with my son yet, will try and do so tomorrow.

i know how you feel Blunty!! I'm mid 30's and I get horrified looks sometimes as I zip around parks. Not that I care about what they think, it darn good exercise! I've recently purchased a secondhand Oxelo easy fold town 9 kick scooter and I love it. 200mm or roughly 8inch wheels, front suspension plus rear damper. Front handlebar brakes with the usual rear step fender brake. It's awesome and built like a tank. it also uses Abec 7 wheels which glides on the surface. Comfortable as heck. If you're still into kick scooters I'd recommend one. Only downside is, it's a little larger and heavier than the one you're using. However the clever fold design allows you to pull it along like a trolley on one wheel.

Been using a Xootr for about 20 years, and 64 years old. Thousands of miles on several models. In april it's off to Japan - I have learned how to attach 30 lbs of camping gear to the stem/handlebars with Velcro One-Wrap self-adhering type, in dry bags. Great fun for commuting or last-mile urban trips including the Japan Railway lines. Go for it - I love Xootring.

I used to ride bikes too but ever since i had a hour long bus commute it became too much of a hassle for me to bike everywhere when I'm already paying for my bus pass. Plus i enjoy the peace i get when i walk, whereas i always feel more stressed when i'm riding anything going even slighlty uphill.

I've started commuting on a Fuzion Cityglide Air, which has air-filled 200mm tires. The rolling resistance is high, but it is a smooth ride on bumpy sidewalks. I'm in California, and I see other people riding around on scooters on the campus where I work.

get a beach cruiser or a comfort bike, you dont have to use a road or racing bike in the prone position, hell just switch out the handle bars for a different style reach and height to the bike of your choice and enjoy. also: 41 year old man here, i occasionally will do the scooter and skateboard thing as well, its a great way to commute you get a little exercise, its compact to carry and stow away, saves on gas, its gives you a different work out than the work out you get on a bike ;-)

I think it’s wonderful💖✨💫 I loved skateboarding as a kid, biking not so much. Riding a bicycle is too dangerous. If I’m on the road I have to worry about getting run over. If I’m on a sidewalk I worry about running into a pedestrian. With a kick scooter I can just put my foot on the ground if I want to stop. I love the idea of scooting around and it definitely appeals to my inner child. I think it will be a joyful activity, and not a worrisome one. I have an elderly friend and she loves it💖✨💫

im also btw 30 and 40, today riding my new k.scooter got some attention from young teens (Baltic States) but who cares, as you say, i feel its very healthy- more than electric scooter, and w big wheels, quite comfortable and lies just in between walking and cycling time-wise! Go for it, its worth it!

  • @Aznhiga13
    @Aznhiga13 9 ปีที่แล้ว

I used to ride one of these through campus everyday. It was fast and easier to weave thru crowds than a bicycle or skateboard and I never had to worry about locking it up or it getting stolen. Also it was easier to carry onto a bus or light rail. But if you're riding on wet ground be wary of sliding unless you get one with better wheels.

I've been using one of these scooters to keep up with my two young kids...who rocket around on these things. I'm also over 100kg (185cm) and opted for the Micro Rocket with the extra wide wheels. Carries my weight very well and glides like a champ. We live in a hilly Swiss city, so the scooter is perfect for the downhill ride...metro for the return trip! I find these Micro's very convenient.

I used to love my scooter when I was young, until I slipped and smashed my face off the floor 😲 then I just stopped scooting all together. But, I'm really interested in it now.
For the whole "Adult's!!! riding scooters..." choose what you want, its a means of transportation, if it makes you feel good then that is all what matters. Cars are cool, faster and convenient for our present lives (but a cost to the environment); but you miss out on so much. I rode home one day and a caterpillar hitched a ride on my coat, it travelled a good 5 miles.

Thanks for great video. Scooters are a great way to cover short (or even longer) distances quickly. They're light to carry, reasonably low cost and fun. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks - how many of the "spectators " are secretly want a go? - I'm going to buy one and zoom past them. :)

I agree with Tony here, getting a scooter is very practical and makes for a fun way to get to places. I got to this video looking for reviews on the Micro Black. I'm kinda thinking of getting myself one to get around esp commute to work. I recently have got into adult scootering around campus but one thing you should consider is the contradiction in the fact that you would like larger wheels but would like a low enough ground clearance to avoid dipping down to push. I have a scooter with quite large wheels and I find that the dipping was annoying at first but is worth it in the long run because of the increased mobility. The bottom line is that bigger wheels usually mean higher decks.

Unfortunately those kick-scooters got uncool around here a few years ago... I know "just because it`s uncool doesn`t mean you can`t do it" but it also means that the sparearts and stuff siply aren`t availlable anymore. When I was a kid I commuted 5 kilometres to scholl with my kick scooter and ran through a rear wheel in about two months.... Good to see that they are getting cool again. The first scooter I ever had actually came from Sydney! And what do you know, 1 or 2 years later, they started being widely availlable in europe. I hope this will be the case this time around aswell!

"spare parts and stuff siply aren`t availlable anymore" HORSESHIT. The same store I got my scooter from carries on shelf a complete range of spare parts, I know because I asked.. Most skate that sell these will... because DUH.

I have visited Vienna, Austria recently and everyone was using those scooters there. Gangs of youths, old ladies, men in suits. Given how flat and smooth sidewalks were there and how expensive the public transport was I wasn't surprised. I started to look around for one since.

24, and literally got mine today, a razor A6 from Amazon and it rides well, the fact the wheels are so big makes it look less childish for sure. I'm planning to use it to go to the gym bc i hate driving short distance and it's just too far to walk to. However after using it i think i would prefer those with tire type wheels for a smoother ride, but then again those are significantly pricier.

    Hey Blunty,
I used to have a bloody fantastic commuting scooter when I used to work in town (Melbourne) which had the bigger air filled tyres and I loved it to bits, until one day I accidentally left it folded up under the bench where I was sitting at Spencer Street train station (now Southern cross station) and I hopped on my train and then it hit me 3 seconds later after the train doors had closed that then I realized what I had done. I tried to go back for it but it was too late... someone else had taken it :-(
After watching your video you have inspired me to go out and get another one again so thanks for sharing and keep up the good work - your videos always have interesting content.

Very funny review. I echo everything. The snootiness in the first instance, then the multi health decay making it look more attractive. My first foray was a Micro Flex and I first went out on it.... in the dark!
Its fabulous, I use it to walk the dogs and they love it too. They sprint either side of me.
Other adults usually smile at me in the park, their kids glare! I think the kids are worried that Im making it not cool.
I couldnt recommend the Micro Flex enough. The flex in the handle bar takes vibration from the wrists which is better for my arthritic wrists.
Take a look at The Swifty One a company based in Manchester UK. Ive tried the Swifty Zero which is fixed but it goes so fast and has front and rear handle bar brakes! The Swifty one has front handle bar brake and the usual but sophisticated friction brake behind.
    Its on my Santa list!
