In Cybill Shepherd's autobiography, she had a picture of Peter and herself with the sardonic (in retrospect) caption "We're Peter and Cybill, and you're not". That pretty much was the reason why they were unpopular.
Love the story of Bogdanovich. have heard so many of his anecdotes and impressions so many times, but he's just an interesting guy. the films (The first four + Saint Jack for sure) are very good. The life he led, the people he worked with, the women he knew, being a powerhouse of 70's Hollywood, the Orson Welles stuff, and then of course the horrible second act. Always come back to this guy. He was kind of the proto-Tarantino, someone who brought an encyclopedic knowledge of American film history to his work, who had studied the great directors. He formed the Directors' Company with Friedkin and Coppola. Imagine those three guys in the same room. What the hell was that like? He also wrote some memorable books. I also recommend Karina Longworth's Polly Platt podcast.
Exactly. Bogdanovich practically wrote the blueprint for the film nerd who didn't go to film school who later becomes a filmmaker. He paved the way for Tarantino, Rodriguez, Wes Anderson, Noah Baumbach, Paul Thomas Anderson, David O. Russell, etc.
I was 9 when What's Up, Doc? came out, and loved it. And I was 10 when Paper Moon came out and I saw it 3 or 4 times in a row. The only other movie I liked more at that point in my life was American Graffiti, which I saw like 7 times, going to the movies each day for about a week in the summer of '73. When I was young there was no such thing as VHS tapes or DVDs or Netflicks or torrenting. You never knew when or if you would ever see a movie again so you paid really close attention when you saw it at the theater. And if you loved it you went back and saw it again; at least I did with wonderful movies like Paper Moon.
I believe Peter was not as physically attractive as Cybill. They sound obnoxious together. It is arrogant when people accuse others of being jealous or envious. You can respectfully disagree. Saying people are jealous (they likely mean to be envious) is a rude put-down. Everyone is entitled to have their own perspective. Narcissistic people, though, always make everything about them. Great video. Thank you.
Of course not. Hitchcock didn’t smoke pot nor did any of the other famous film directors of the classic era. Pot makes you stupid. And you end up with dementia.

This is extraordinary! Thank you for this!😊❤
Peter's daughter: "Dad, Orson at all the Haagen Dazs!!" (brief pause) Peter: " Well, he is a great director!" Simply priceless. Thank you TCM~

They brought a lot of pain to some people but never seemed to give it a thought.

He's not asking for sympathy, but my heart always breaks hearing his story.
Sad but informative chapter in Peter’s life. Bring on Episode 5!
The Village Voice review was called "At Long Last Lousy."
Excellent stuff. Keep 'em coming!
WHATS UP DOC IS SO FUNNY.
Daisy Miller flopped because Cybill was wrong for it. She just didn’t have the class to pull it off.
"Well there's not much to see actually." We're inside a podcast.
'Orson ate all the ice cream!'
