    I'm a believer in the castor. We had no complaints with my dad's H1 street bike, until he switched to Blendzall and all of the "normal" air-cooled bike noises completely went away and vibration was reduced to V12 BMW levels. That was very impressive. There was also a noticeable decrease in cylinder and head temps after switching to the Blendzall, which is a pretty mediocre castor as far as those go. All my bikes are air-cooled and non-powervalve. The extra goo and mess means almost nothing in my application, but the absolutely unparalleled lubrication under extreme heat and load gives me a lot of confidence when I'm reaching for the top of 6th on a hot day. Plus it smells like performance.

      @@jonathondavis170 Well I do both kinds of riding, usually in the same day. But even if I did exclusively ride 1st gear goat trails, castor is also great for the bottom end because it's so viscous. But my dirt bikes do run hotter than modern ones and have nothing to gum up, so it's an easier case for me than for others.

    Have heard all the same stuff about Castor 927, I call BS, it is a castor ester blend. have been using it for years and have never ever seen it separate in fuel, or leave any kind of build up. maybe the older types before it was highly refined or mixed with a petroleum base but not the new stuff. I wouldn't run straight BeNol except in very high RPM situations but this stuff here is fine. I just did a Top End rebuild on a 2009 yz250 that has only ever had Castor 927, looked brand new with over 100 hours. use good fuel and half your problems vanish.

      R50 doesn't separate mate.

    • @viskroket6478
      @viskroket6478 ปีที่แล้ว

      R50 is SAE50, so it's technically undesirable under 40⁰F as a rule due to unique properties of SAE50 being unable to have a W designation for "winter" operation due to their excessive viscosity at colder temperatures. If you're running under 40⁰F consistently, a switch to the Klonz snowmobile oil at the manufacturer recommended premix amount for the winter season would provide you with optimal lubrication and better protection than R50 in those conditions. R50 is perfect for the warmer weather when the engine is typically getting very hot & worked at high loads.

  • @climbhigherperforman
    @climbhigherperforman 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Imo the ratio rating given on the bottle is what the oil is capable of performing adequately in an engine specifically designed for that ratio. that being said i dont care what the bottle says if your engine manufacturer says 24:1 then thats what u mix and for several reasons.First dyno test show 2 strokes incease power up to 6:1. Oil seals the rings but most importantly fills the space between cylinder and piston to allow the heat from the piston to transfer properly to the cylinder! Second is jetting. if u are jetted to run at say 24;1 and u go to 80:1 (omg its not an outboard) u have instantly richened yor air/fuel ratio substantially. And made it rich. Yes rich because the carb jet allows so much fluid to flow through it. if its fluid with substantially less oil in it then must be more gas...so its rich> foul plugs... destroy engine. 80 to1 is one drop of oil to 80 drops of fuel if u need a mental picture in your head.. not enough for 10000 rpm. and definately not gonna run better or make more power. Im a journeyman motorcycle mechanic and high performance engine builder with hundreds of engines built that run and perform as they should. Just my two cents. I rebuild worn out engines everyday cause of lack of oil.

    • @CypressVintage
      @CypressVintage 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, if you have too much oil, then would the mixture be lean? Will it cause the engine to over heat at high RPM?

    • @climbhigherperforman
      @climbhigherperforman 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aredde Serkle It all depends on what u mean by overheat. Anythings possible.The engine temp will surely be fine.....but a super lean mixture on a cold day.....oil wont stop a hole punching through a piston. it is possible imo but it would need to prob be an extreme change and set of circumstances. I personally run a highly modified CR500. honda says 40:1. i run around 24:1 and went up one size on my main to compensate(172) keihn 39 pwk from (170). put yor fingers in 20:1 and rub together.....feels oily.....try 80:1....feels alot diferent. Hope this helps.

      People should do some research before reducing the oil mix ratio. They have done full tests showing that more oil makes more power. What do u have to gain by running 80-1? You lose power and your motor will wear extremely fast...... They made the most power on 16-1. As they reduced the amount of oil the hp dropped and when they pulled the motor apart the ratios with less oil showed more wear.

    • @TepcoCycleRepair
      @TepcoCycleRepair 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +scott T Believe me I've done a ton of research on 2 stroke oils and mix ratios over the years. I do remember on old study that said more oil made more power, it sealed the rings better. But its an older study and with today's powervalves they would be a mess trail riding at 16:1. I ran Castor 927 32:1 for more years then I can remember it was great but made a mess. I look to run a better full synthetic oil at a high ratio, I settled at 60:1 Amsoil Saber, (KTM recommended ratio) but I did run 80:1with no issues or noticeable power differences. Why? I might be old school but I love advancements in oil and motorcycles and pull engines apart for R&R. To me, a good quality oil able to run at a lower oil ratio is just a cleaner burn. My KTM200EXC has run at 80:1, 60:1 Amsoil Saber for almost 100 hrs now and is doing just fine. Remember KTM even recommends 60:1 now so 80:1 doesn't sound so crazy.

    • @dosbox907
      @dosbox907 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GREASElover32 no you shouldn't have to change jetting.
      You should be keeping a close eye on plug color, throttle response, and smoke density regardless.
      Anyways man, personally in your case I'd switch to an amsoil brand oil lime saber. Mix it 50 to 1 and just check the plug and watch for smoke.
      If you insist on using the Lucas, same deal.
      But go mix it 40 and see how your bike likes it. Your not gonna blow it up at that ratio and will have plenty of time to asses everything.
      If it likes it, you gain horsepower, the plug isn't white and your still smoking..
      Bump it up to 50.
      Do some research about 2 stroke tuning.
      Ideally, you want your bike to only smoke a little bit under hard load when its warmed up.
      At idle or under mild load the bike should not smoke or barely at all.
      Plug color should be coffee brown and you should have no bogs throughout the throttle range.
      Whatever brand and mixture achieves that, is where it should be.
      So dont get caught up in what everyone else is mixing at and what brand they're using.
      Learn how to tune your engine, and see what it wants because all engines are different.
      My atc250r recommended 20:1 with the middle clip position for sea level altitude.
      But was fouling plugs like a maniac, after spending time with it and changing mixture. I found out it really wanted 40:1 with the clip dropped down a notch running Lucas oil.
      I eventually switched to Dominator at 50:1 and it was seriously like a brand new machine. Full of life for a machine that was 32 years old with I suspect the factory piston.

    I heard that castor 927 separates and never really integrates back into the gas completely, and you are suppose to mix what you think you are gonna use that same day then drain your bike. is this true?

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sam, that is mostly true. It separates if used or stored in cold temps and will not re-integrate. I would also only mix what you plan to use over a 2 month period unless you use a steel container.

    Besides saving some money, is there any benefit of an 80:1 mixture? More oil means more power and less engine wear from everything I've read.
    One thing you forgot to mention is what the oil was designed for; high rpm, heavy loads or low rpm trail riding. They are designed to burn correctly at different temperatures. For example: Motul 800 being a high RPM MX oil and 710 for low rpm trail riding. Using 800 for trail riding will leave more deposites on the powervalve.
    One that you should test is Legend. It has the lubrication properties and cleanliness of synthetics without glazing the cylinder like synthetics (because it is not a synthetic).

    • @lmullins3193
      @lmullins3193 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually for clarification, more oil means less power (though probably not noticeable between 40:1 and 80:1 mix ratios). Oil doesn't burn as well as gas is the reason. It's kind of intuitive because its one of the reasons that 2 strokes don't make twice as much hp as same cc 4 strokes, because the 2 strokes power stroke isn't as powerful as a 4 strokes power stroke because the 4 stroke burns all gas, while the 2 stroke burns a mix of gas and oil (though the 2 stroke fires twice as often which is why it makes more power). Run on sentences i know...just didn't really care.

    • @TheOfficialKC
      @TheOfficialKC 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      lmullins3193 False. All studies have shown more oil means more power. More oil improves lubrication (less friction) and better ring seal (less blow by). The best power production has been shown to be around 20:1 oil ratio.

    • @TheOfficialKC
      @TheOfficialKC 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      lmullins3193 If you have a link to a research study that shows more power on less oil then send it. Until then, the only studies I have read show more oil makes more power. I think your thought process is right, and that was mine, but the studies I could find didn't support it. If you have a reference, I'd love to read it.

    • @lmullins3193
      @lmullins3193 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheOfficialKC I mean that's my point, I don't think anyone has done any recent testing with the modern oils, so my theory is all i have to go on. Compression makes power for sure, but i've raced my honda 250x with the right intake zeroed (my guess was that it was hanging open), and there was no difference in power (though extremely hard to start). Based on that fact I would personally prioritize a better combustion over a slight loss in compression.

    • @husq2100
      @husq2100 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      lmullins3193 the kart guys are still running motul and maxima at 16-1 maybe up to 25-1. Up to 20k rpm. They get best protection AND performance from these ratios. KTM etc don't care about maximum power. They care about power/reliability/serviability/economy all rolled into one, ie. one big compromise.
      Go to the top race bike engine builders and ask what they run for max power?
