This made my day; I got mine a few years back and although the sound was good I was never sure if they were genuine, but after seeing this, it looks like they really are the real deal. Thanks!
I bought some 215's then also bought the wireless cord for another 100. Best headphones I've bought, over a year old and there still in great shape. Would recommend them.
You can look at the pictures of the originals iems from Shure's website, only the transparent ones have the colored red and blue dots that indicate left and right. The color-versions only have the indentation without the colors.
Got the "real" ones before they got off the market. They were hard to get a couple of months ago. I am very happy they are not fake.(Edit: I have the black ones and the easiest way to spot if they are fake, seems to be the wire: it's red in mine as well)
I have the se215 limited edition blue that I purchased new from a major retailer when they first came out. The only thing I’d note is that the blue/red dots are not on them but are otherwise like the clear ones you’ve shown. The 535 I have also include the red/blue dots.
I have the genuine black/dark-tinted ones and they don't have a dot painted on either. They have a recessed hole on the IEM shell for the dot, and a L/R cast label, but no paint dot. I bought them from a genuine distributor and have owned them about 10 years - they've got a lot of use and performed great, so I'm of no doubt they're genuine.
Thank you very much, Mr. Russell. I'm just starting to look in ear monitors. I stopped on the Shure SE 215 and thanks to your useful video, I know what points to look out for.
I think what gave it away for me instantly is the perceived craftsmanship, even without knowledge of how the drivers look. The inseam where the, I’m guessing two piece, housing comes together, on the real one is extremely clean cut and well fitted while the fake looks like it’s poorly cut. It probably cost shure a ton of money to get the molds right for that housing and it’s most definitely impossible to replicate (for the sake of selling fakes, it’s gotta be cheap)
Hey Kennis, thanks for your video, it helped me confirmed my amazon situation! Believe it or not, I bought manufacturer refurbished SE215 on Amazon, and they're just like yours, they took over a month to arrive and thankfully I was refunded by amazon before I received them as I figured they were lost in the post. Upon a very quick inspection, they are faaaake, your video confirmed it. Thankfully, the price small difference between the genuine and the refurbished in the UK was so close that being refunded the money frees me up to buy them again but genuine. :-)

Excellent video. Thank you very much for sharing. I've been hesitant to purchase these due to the fakes out there. Now I feel that I'll be able to distinguish the two. Granted I have access to good enough pics.
Excellent demonstration of fake vs Real deal. Although most audiophiles that would buy these expensive earphones would probably tell if they were inferior quality, a novice would just accept the fake as ok. Certainly, putting these in your ear after using low quality drivers like Apple earbuds or Samsung in-ear phones, is night and day. Thanks for an excellent comparison that helps to defeat the idiots that try to rip us off. Further, buying on Amazon or through SweetWater is certainly the way to go, as Ebay allows fakes for just about everything Pro-Audio.
thank you so much for this video amazon just sold me a pair almost identical but they have taken the trouble to remove the red on the driver now, and they have placed darkened spots to prevent anyone seeing the insides in detail, very good copies but they sound awful im so annoyed. Took me a while to figure out your video was so helpful. cheers
I've been using shure for years. I have a set of SE425 at the moment. I had 2xx series and others over the years. The red on the wire on the real ones is enamel coating, it's an insulator. The red on the fake speaker is anodising.
Sorry to say that some your conclusions are probably wrong. But I do agree that the blue ones you show in the videos are definitely fake. I just purchased one blue pair from an official authorized dealer in Australia. The blue ones don't have the red&blue dots (personally I guess maybe only clear ones have those red&blue dots). Also there's a tiny gap in the connection point between the cable and the unit (you can check the sample pics of the blue ones on Shure website, clearly you can see a tiny gap). I agree with the comments you made on the driver and wire inside the unit: the drivers can't be red and the wires inside are red. Thanks for your video anyway. Just remember to be more scientific when you make a comparison next time. All the best.
王铎 I have Blue SE215 SPE and it doesnt have red and blue dots. I bought it from authorised seller, registered the product on Shure’s website and also once replaced the right/left phone as one had lower volume. Also the translucent black version doesnt have the red and blue dots as well. Those dots are only present in transparent version of SE215. Rest of your claims are true. Thanks for sharing and if possible please review sound difference between 535 and 846.
Additionally, "I put the earbuds in to see a difference, one fake in left ear, real in right, switched, both real, both fake, and could definitely tell a difference between the two." That may be true, but it may include bias because it includes knowledge of which bud is real/fake beforehand, so a more accurate way to discuss the info would be to blindfold a subject and put the earbuds in, randomly. Have them grade the quality of the earbuds in each ear and repeat this multiple times, preferably for 3+ subjects. Then tell us how many times the high/low quality grade matched that of the real/fake buds. It may not be a quantitative result, but it would remove the bias when you know you're putting the real/fake buds in.
Shure has changed the box design for their SE line up, I think it shouldn't be a problem anymore to distinguish the real from the fake ones, as long as you buy new unit.

Wihen buying Shure products it is highly advisable to purchase from an authorized Shure dealer not random Amazon or Ebay sellers. Some of the popular Shure mics like the SM57, SM58, and SM7b are frequently counterfeited.
I believe Shure doesn't make this blueish color, or am I mistaken. The first difference I spotted was the smaller diameter of the output sound channel on the fakes.
I just purchased the Red special edition ones used and luckily used Paypal. After having them for a week one of them separated in half (the whole casing). I sent it to Shure and they wrote me back and told me it was a fake. The seller who himself was probably scammed denies this and actually tried to blame me for buying a fake pair and swapping them with his fake "great pair" he sent me. I am no longer going to buy used especially for Shure considering all the copying that went on. The thing was that the fake one sounded decent, but I can't wait to hear what the real thing sounds like now and will just buy from a dealer next.
Kennis Russell so far it is looking that way. They sided in my favor and I am about to return the set to the seller with the one that came apart (cheap copy barely glued together) .
Probably just the Kevlar cord. If that's stiff and real, then you got it. Also, the sound isolation is hard to fake because the specific type of plastic used.
My Shure SE215 is half priced. But it has clear speaker and red wire. It's quite flimsy, it doesn't have any red/blue dots, and the pouch is not completely ovale. It sure doesn't sound like $10 earphone or something. Does it means I have a fake ones but with better quality than it shown in the video? Also, do you find any difference between the fake and real ear buds that're included inside as a set? Can we hear the difference in sound if you put it up to your speaker?
How come mine is 5mm nozzle? Was there a different version of Se215? Even the casing mine is different, a bit pointy on one side, like a medieval knight helmet. In your demo, nozzle it seems very thin pipe like 2-4mm diameter? Thanks
Fakes come in different guises. I have SE215's with correct colour driver but sound is poor. Case moulding has flashing on end of sound tube and overall finish is poor. They do not have coloured dots near connectors. They were bought from Amazon, fortunately cable connection was defective so I got my money back.
I wouldn't be surprised if the fakes at least last longer than the real one. Having owned more than 10 different cheap and expensive musician level in ears, SE215 definitely have the most fragile design. Mousture WILL get into swiwel type cable connection and at some point you have cleaned them so much that they get a lose connection. Also spinning the cable around will wear out the joint eventually. I think we have had 5 or 6 pairs of these in one of my bands and none of them lasted a year.
Kennis, If you don't return them; you are perpetuating scams and hurting your fellow musicians. Edit; My previous wording was a bit too abrasive so sorry about that. I hope you will consider returning them even if you never get a dime back and also give this eBay seller a negative rating with explanation. P e a c e
TheWindGinProject send Kennis $50 so he can throw them away 👍, you can't ask him to eat his money by returning them even if he doesn't get his money back 🤣. I like how people play with other people's money like it's no big deal. Now if you give him the money that's a different story 😉
If the consumer accepts a scam it huts everyone. We must have the resolve to fight back especially when we are skeptical of a super low price on a high end brand like Shure. I hope you can at least agree that Shure makes some top of the line stuff that is worth every penny ? . Sorry we disagree a bit.
Bought a Shure SM58 mic from vendor in New York on Ebay. Absolutely fake and refunded money. Wiring, inner grilled, packaging ie Made in China, raised lettering at the plug ALL WRONG. Thanks for raising awareness Kennis
The word for the sound is fantastic..are they worth $900? that depends on the user..I feel they are terribly overpriced but that kind of quality product will not ever be cheap unless of course they are fake or you buy them use. In my case, I can only use the smaller foam or tips; the others are unused in my set so if I sell them that is something the next buyer would like to know that he or she is not having my ear wax on theirs! So at first I was not impressed at all with the sound but you have to tweak the foams to find that sweet spot where you can hear the full frequency spectrum, once found then I was like "wow" the audio have to have quality too, when you have them in ear for long time they are a little bothersome, you can tell they are there, if you move your head or do facial expressions you might lose the "sweet spot" for the frequency then the sound is no different than a smart phone in ears. I tried the black filters but then my test was failed because I had not found yet the sweet spot, so changed them to the factory default blue ones, did not tried yet the white ones which are the "brightests" The blue filter gives you a balance sound according to manual. I listened to my music for 2 hours yesterday, listening to song I know how they sound good when I enjoy them and many songs were not up to the quality I am used to and many others sounded with excellent quality; all mp3s but some Flac files too..they are laud and take high volume better without distortion, but more than half the dial could be dangerous..for live monitoring while playing I have yet to find the right mix between the tracks I was given to lay drums tracks and my own tracks then hear them all while playing my drums live in a small room..I am curious to know if the in ears can let me listen to the mix without bleeding from the drums right there in the room at a level that would not destroy my hearing..That is the real test these will stand! and that is why i bought them..my Audio Technica ATH M50x has passed this test but they are in my way while playing..also I do not play with a static expressionless face..i do tend to express with the music playing so I am concerned the in ears will move and lose the sweet spot in the ear canal. i have ordered another $20.00 of longer P-series foam tips in the small ones, a package of 3, this might make the difference..testing to be continue and I will let you know..

Hi Kennis, Good video indeed. Thank you. I just bought the 215's and I use them with my Shure Ear monitor. 2 Question I'd like to ask if you don't min. 1. is Do the 525's blow the 215's away. I mean they are 5 times the price.. Is it night and day. Also, Did you have the ear piece custom fit or do you use them as they are. I assume you are using them for an ear monitor as well. Please let me know. Thanks, Tom in NYC
Amazon was selling a pair of 535's for the same price as the Shure website so I looked into it further. Shipment would take 3 weeks. The store said "Shure" but the seller was actually listed "DesirePro." That seller sold everything from Costco's Kirkland brand vitamins to lego sets. It seems like another Chinese counterfeiter.
I bought a pair of shure846 from the web. New.. just listening to them for 3 seconds you instantly know it was not fake. :) But one time.. i bought sennheiser i80 from ebay. 80£ less than retail. After 2 seconds i knew. It was fake. true Quality sound cant be faked..
I’m sorry you got taken Mr. Russell but I’m happy that you only lost $50 in the deal. My buying online and getting A Chinese manufactured imitation cost me $675. There is no recoup where the cash is concerned only lessons learned. I personally will never purchase anything that I cannot inspect personally again. I dismissed what my dad taught me about the pig in the poke and thought I was getting the deal of a lifetime. It was. I remembered to pass on to my grandsons the lesson I had forgotten. If you can buy it in the local store it may cost a little more now but will save you a lot in the long run. That’s the best reminder I could have purchased for $675.
I got them from Amazon, delivered by Amazon and sold by Amazon for near $100, and they sounded like $10 pieces of tin. I'll never buy Shure again. They cable was able to lock around in position, but I think I remember watched them closely before returning them and they had that red thing inside. The cable was real gummy wild and noisy crap and the packaging was ridiculously big and round. Never again Shure, I am sorry.
Step one: Do not buy expensive items on ebay support local shops. I live in the most isolated city in the world and still have a local shop that sells high end products
Ebay provides full insurance against counterfeits and orders not matching discription even if seller has no refunds stated on the selling page. They have to refund if item is not what was said to be sold. If seller does not reply ebay or pay up. Ebay will pay you a refund equal to the full payment you paid at through ebay to the seller :)
I have fake shure se215, blue color, and they do not have the red band, they have the dot too but its not red its just moulded in plastic, the gold ring sits flush with the earbud too But the wire does not fit so well, there is some gap between and it rotates quite freely. The biggest difference is quality, they dont even sound like $10 earphones, they are much worse, my apple earpods are so much better. Its very difficult to check which is real and which is fake, there are big companies dedicated to the job of making fake items as close to real as possible. They check all these videos etc and recommended changes to the fake’s factory.
Shure se215 came with two variants the one you have and the M+. Its the one with in line control. May I ask if you can change the regular variant cable wire with the M+ cable?
I bought a pair on ebay and the seller had 100% feedback anddddddd priced it just $10 cheaper than what I could get them from the stores here. They ended up being fakes and I knew this because my friend has these and they sounded clearer than mine so I took pics of the item and packaging and serial number on the box and emailed Shure HQ who confirmed the serial is not valid. Good thing got a refund from ebay buyer protect so I ended up getting the originals at a store here, paid more but they do sound better. Love the se846 though wish they were cheaper and not $1k
also knew the clears were legit was because i noticed the red and blue markings for the left or right cord wasnt painted on the blue versions. Thats what got me thinking I had fakes too as my fakes didnt have the left and right colours painted in
Ozzie Archangel I bought mine from ebay from the seller: ima168 The cost 89$ By this video they seems to be fake, but they sound pretty good. Should i contact shure's hq?
For sure contact Shure hq. They sound ok normal volume but when you turn up the volume higher and higher it starts to hiss and distort and it sounded bad compared to the authentics I got. Contact Shure with the serial, send them photos of the ear buds up close, the red and blue paint, the inner casings wiring inside, the items that came with it. pic of the black cover to store the buds and the original box it came with they will tell you if they legit too
Also to add to these at eglobal sure the Shure se846 for $820. WIth a coupon code by google found them for $800 on the same site so I snapped them up, waiting on delivery gosh Im nervous if they are fake. Ive purchased from eglobal and seen reviews they appear to be legit so Im praying I dont get duped with the se846s now
I got mine from my drum teacher about 2 years ago. Not sure if they are fake at this point as these ones were produced in China for the Eastern Market and not the western market(I live in Malaysia) is it normal for the painted shure logo on the earphone to fade away due to sweat? Because honestly, I'm not sure at this point on whether mine are real or not. The speakers do not have a red band around them however.
has anyone tried watching a movie on a laptop using 215 any good? im not looking for bass heavy sound or high treble that usually give me a headache. im just looking for good quality midrange for the dialogue to be clear
I just got my Shure 535 special edition red but it has no red and blue dots. It's basically see through so it's technically red on one side but the other side has no blue. Is that normal for this version?

Kennis Russell so far it is looking that way. They sided in my favor and I am about to return the set to the seller with the one that came apart (cheap copy barely glued together) .
Did you get a real pair? How are they?
7:35 that voice crack tho
Swiss yodeler
Lmao hahahahaa
thanks for pointing out the flaws, but now they are going to make fake ones identical to the real ones...lol.
if you got serial number , you can write to original company to verify.
G K what if the chinese take 1 genuine serial number and print the same number on all fakes?
many thanks! I bought second hand, waiting to arrive. Hope it’s legit 😂 My confidence lies on source- I got it from US person/ seller.
Usually there are indicators right on the box. Where are the boxes?
Probably just the Kevlar cord. If that's stiff and real, then you got it. Also, the sound isolation is hard to fake because the specific type of plastic used.
You cab also check the code on the box on the shure website to see if they are official codes
phew thought my blues were fake since one of them doesn't sit flush, but everything else checks out and they sound great
My Shure SE215 is half priced.
Thanks! Very helpful video.
Omg! I bought real ones! Thanks for this video!
They were bought from Amazon, fortunately cable connection was defective so I got my money back.
the video should be called "how to be sure with your shures"
the fake blue looks smarter :) not sure about the sound quality though.
Thank you. I am about to have one of those
Phew, I just got my SE215s the same color as your fake ones.. and I thought I got the fakes.. but it looks like I got the real ones.
I’ve heard people getting fake pairs of SE215 and SE535 but never SE846. Just gifted 846 for yesterday’s Mother’s Day so I’m bit concerned.
Kennis, If you don't return them; you are perpetuating scams and hurting your fellow musicians. Edit; My previous wording was a bit too abrasive so sorry about that. I hope you will consider returning them even if you never get a dime back and also give this eBay seller a negative rating with explanation. P e a c e
Thanks for the response. The video had a great message in general. I'm glad you pointed out that you attempted to return the fake.
Wut were those cables?
Bought a Shure SM58 mic from vendor in New York on Ebay. Absolutely fake and refunded money. Wiring, inner grilled, packaging ie Made in China, raised lettering at the plug ALL WRONG. Thanks for raising awareness Kennis
Good thing there is captioning on this video in case deaf people need to tell the differences. 😅
I got the 846 ordered from musician's friends web site and @ $900.00 they better will not be fake!
I have 2 pairs of se215 - one has the red\copper color ring like on your "fakes" - but both are original, sounds the same.
@@kennisrussell in the same store, but first pair I bought over 4 years ago, and the second - a year ago, and they actually sound slightly different) Weird stuff there
Guys, shure can improve his design and materials at any moment. They might have use a different seal material which is red at some point.
Probably. I would stay away.
Sir kennis, may I ask if this fake/oem sounds the same as the original shure? How do you explain their sound?
My real ones, the ones that came with the TW2 don’t have those red and blue dots. They do have the red wires though.
thanks, very helpful
I will use a faster shipping method next time!
Thank you very much!
what about sound quality? How differently do they sound?
5:40
@@2shotsofvvodka thank you !
before fiinishing the vid, i bet people wil say the reds and blue are fake even tho i have seen them and they are special editions, correct?
watching this video with a pair of Shure SE 215
I bought a pair of shure846 from the web. New.. just listening to them for 3 seconds you instantly know it was not fake. :) But one time.. i bought sennheiser i80 from ebay. 80£ less than retail. After 2 seconds i knew. It was fake. true Quality sound cant be faked..
i never knew Ed Sheeran used Shure as IEM and he looks old now. What happened?!
I had a two pair of these, probably they were fake because of intermittent audio. Female side of the mmcx connector was very easy to bend.
Step one:
Do not buy expensive items on ebay support local shops.
OEM quality same with Original one or not? Thanks
I have Just purchased a pair of se535 from Amazon (sold and dispatched by Amazon). Can I rest assured? They should be here tomorrow
What about oem shure 215? Is it real?
"I want to... make shure.. these are the real thing"
As an seasoned SE215 user (bought several pairs over 4 years cuz they dont last smh), I could tell them in a flash lmao
Great video thanks
Shure se215 came with two variants the one you have and the M+. Its the one with in line control. May I ask if you can change the regular variant cable wire with the M+ cable?
Do shure se215 really sound darker comparing the apple earpods? just got mine
Thats what got me thinking I had fakes too as my fakes didnt have the left and right colours painted in
Ozzie Archangel
I bought mine from ebay from the seller: ima168
The cost 89$
By this video they seems to be fake, but they sound pretty good.
Ive purchased from eglobal and seen reviews they appear to be legit so Im praying I dont get duped with the se846s now
are you shure it's shure ?
I got mine from my drum teacher about 2 years ago. Not sure if they are fake at this point as these ones were produced in China for the Eastern Market and not the western market(I live in Malaysia) is it normal for the painted shure logo on the earphone to fade away due to sweat? Because honestly, I'm not sure at this point on whether mine are real or not. The speakers do not have a red band around them however.
Aaron Ho you should be able to easily tell by the sound quality, and if you can’t it doesn’t matter for you to know if it’s real or not 😬
Listening to this on se215's
So basically check the return policy b4 ordering then listen to after receiving um
has anyone tried watching a movie on a laptop using 215 any good? im not looking for bass heavy sound or high treble that usually give me a headache. im just looking for good quality midrange for the dialogue to be clear
i bought mine on amazon for about 100 dollars. do you think they would be fake
I just got my Shure 535 special edition red but it has no red and blue dots. It's basically see through so it's technically red on one side but the other side has no blue. Is that normal for this version?
David Phuong yes the special edition are different Chinese model
71/5000
ok these copies however did you compare their sound difference?
