You can look up a lot of books on TH-cam and fix it where it reads the captions and that will help you learn how to read and write English better. They have free summaries too that cover them and listen to them while you are doing other tasks. My daughter swears that covid made her learn how to read and write better by having to text and answer her friends more. Also putting the captions on in English when you watch anything may help you too. She said it did and finding books also that made her want to read.l can say she went from a remedial reader to the highest in her class by daily reading and the teacher used her as this example.

I agree! Different reading has different purposes - just like you watch certain videos on YT for entertainment sometimes and others for education at other times.
Serious comment and question: you recommend a book on good thinking (logic), but on your fifth recommendation you appeal to the celebrities of Robbins and Chopra, both of who are people who rely on illogical, un-scientific, even anti-scientific thinking? How do reconcile this? Thank you in advance
This is a great question! I am not a big fan of what they teach either, although many of their ideas have a foundation in scientific findings (i.e., we can trace the simplistic idea of "believe in yourself, and you'll succeed" to the well-demonstrated concept of self-efficacy in social cognitive theory). So actually, if I were to elaborate on that point I made in the video about Psychocybernetics, I believe this book itself to have many sound and legitimately useful claims, but much of what has come after it that expounds upon it has distorted much of it. I hope that helps!

Hey great thoughts here! And sure! Change "prospective" to "perspective". As for personality tests, in practice, it is extraordinarily difficult to categorize personalities in a rigid way. However, the categories within the OCEAN assessment, specifically, have some usefulness for such things as (as you mentioned) understanding someone else's perspective and the way they receive communication the best. Overall, it's important to understand that many of these social models are tools that help us to a certain extent - but at the end of the day, we have to make sure we stay grounded and humanize the people we're interacting with.

They aren’t glorifying being stupid by not pushing college on everyone. College can be a very useful tool but it’s been over glorified as the path to financial success. Generally that isn’t true because most people in college are looking to work for someone else. Kids need to stop stressing out about college. It’s not for everyone.
@@gutenbird Exactly 💯 And "college" isn't what I mean by "education". "School" isn't what I mean by "intelligence". Just posted a video yesterday on this topic you'd enjoy.
@@atalkumar7846 No problem at all! I believe it's simply more effective and a better use of time to start with certain other fundamentals first, such as learning how to learn - so that we can actually absorb, retain, and utilize that knowledge 👍
The logical conclusion is false, the only conclusion you can draw from that is all business that generate a ten percent return are worth investing in AND are good ideas
Yeah, I definitely hear you. And you're definitely right! It seems that the issue you're getting at here is that there are lots of people with no real experience or expertise who essentially "fake it" and therefore sell a course of no real value. That being said I can see the justification for selling a course if it has real value and it took time for the creator to develop it and put high value into it. For instance, having been in the test-prep industry for a while, it's certainly true tutors could impart their knowledge for free, but then that certainly wouldn't be fair to the tutors. TH-cam is full of free information (some great, and some awful). The real value of a course, as I see it, lies in the level of individualization you'll get, which is impossible to impart in a video.
Which book you recommand as a starting point? I'm not a native english speaking person and have some difficulties to understand hard stuff. Please recommand....
Honestly, the first one I mentioned: "Limitless". Especially if you're currently learning English - the vocabulary isn't too complex, and it teaches you how to learn everything else.
@@RealSamHailu Exactly 💯 Which is the premise of this video: many of us get so overwhelmed reading self-help books only to find that we're more confused and lost after reading them than before we started. I know I've found myself in this position before. These books are arguably the most foundational ones that can help increase the effectiveness of reading most other self-help books.
You really think so? I learned a TON of practical steps to take to improve my own learning, and they are still actionable steps I implement to this day. Any reason you felt it was not helpful?
Great question! And that's not what I'm saying at all. Instead, I'm simply saying these books provide a much more solid foundation for getting started with personal growth and enhancing our absorption of the knowledge. For instance, Kwik's book is about "learning how to learn". Learning how to learn more effectively, for example, can help us dramatically to absorb, retain, and actually use the information from those other books.
@@stephenpetro411 it's the thing that comes on when your sentence or topic ends, which sounds and looks cool. It's just that there's a flash of light with it and hurt my eyes is all. Do you have to go to school to be logical? You are overestimating the importance of formal education. What matters is education, not necessarily formal education.
If by "school" you mean "college," then no - not at all! You can be logical even without a formal education, of course. Critical thinking is a universal skill that everyone can learn, regardless of background. When I was discussing education here, my gripe was not about how you have to go to college, but instead it was about how lots of personal development content is actively anti-formal-education. Everyone's path is different, and it's ok! Regardless of formal or informal education, the point is simply "be educated!"

@@edgartokman4898 I agree - there's a ton of lost wisdom from the past
I personally think that reading is that time of the day where you do what you like so personally read whatever genre you love

The other issue we face are all these bogus "gurus" with a course to sell. Why can't they just impart the knowledge for free.
