  • A cover by Glenvis (sbbinahee) of 'Cat's In The Cradle' always loved this song
    A poem I wrote a while back
    Dear dad
    To my father
    Dear dad:
    Sometimes you make me sad
    Sometimes you make me glad
But as I grow in life
I’ve come to know your strife
Like you I try to hide
    The pain I feel inside
But when I let it go
    It only helps me grow
The gifts God gave to you
    Shines brightly through and through
Your grace you share with all
Not just to those that call
    Tight wires are merely strings
It’s your soul that makes them ring
The voice that comes from you
    Makes angels listen too
I’ll love you till the end
    And always be your friend
    So remember I’m always here
If you ever need my ear

Never knew my dad. He passed on when I was 9. My own son is 22 today. Ask him of the songs of Mr. Campbell and he'll name them all in the blink of a eye. Thanks for the songs. Thanks for the gift of music. Thanks for being you Mr. Campbell.

I was fortunate enough to see your Dad in L.A. back in 2011 at the Nokia Theater. My own father is 88 and has been afflicted for several years. He's in an excellent facility, as I understand your Dad is. We need to knock Alzheimer's out, once and for all.

Glen Campbell has always been one of my favorite artists. I was born in '55 and have loved music since I was a child. I grew up listening to Glen on the radio, his 45rpm singles, albums, 8-tracks and so on. His last couple of albums are very good, especially 'Meet Glen Campbell'. Wichita Lineman is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded, and the guitar break/instrumental is absolutely sublime, with the horns and strings complimenting Glen's guitar. Just listen to the end of that break when the horns join in. It is pure bliss. Whoever arranged that song on that original recording was a record-making genius.
Anyway, Glen Campbell's music has been a big part of my life. Thanks for posting this, and God bless Glen Campbell...thank you for the music, and the music always reminds me of my youth and the good times. When I was young, 14-17 years old or so, I could sing his songs note for note. I used to sing them to my high school sweetheart who became my wife. We've been together since we were 15 in 1970. Great memories, thanks to the music.
And hey, I'm a Ford guy. I noticed in the video a 1964 Ford Galaxie, about a '52-'53 Mercury, and what looks to be a late 50's Mercury. Not only is Glen a great musical artist, he also had good taste in cars! Glen Campbell - an American musical icon...and I was blessed to grow up in his era, just along for the ride.

WOW! A lot of great comments here. What a talent Glen Campbell is from a fan's standpoint. We (fans) are blessed to have witnessed his talents. May YOU (Travis), remain to be blessed, although, the situation must be difficult for you and your family members. I keep Glen and all of his families in my thoughts and prayers. I too watched the documentary, "I Will Be Me". It is hard for us all to accept this, but it also has, (along with Jimmy Webb's recent concerts), alerted the public of today, just how great of a musician and entertainer and enigma Glen Campbell is.

Thank you Travis for sharing your father with the world. What an amazing talent, saw him in concert in Reno in 1996, my parents were in awe, after many years of following his career, and how powerful his voice still was. Myself, I still can hear him belt out Wichita Lineman, and it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I think the only thing that could even make this situation with your father even be bearable is to remember that people getting sick and getting old is not what God wants, and he promises a time, like Isaiah 33:24 says, that "no resident will say I am sick". So, having your dad back, with all his memories of you and your siblings, and all his talents for singing and playing music, being able to enjoy all the things he always did enjoy.

There is no doubt in my mind that you and the rest of the children meant the absolute world to him. From everything I have learned about your father, he is a really decent man. You have a beautiful voice. Lost my dad to vascular dementia. Didn't agree with my stepmother (on anything!) on his care at home until I realized that despite our best efforts, we couldn't safely keep him home any more. It was a miracle that had God's signature written all over it but the two of us made peace and were able to have 5 more months with him that were priceless to all family members. I pray that your family and your wonderful father will have peace.

Very Cool Travis. Like everyone says your dad is a extremely talented man. I was about 14 or so when I first heard your dad. He was my idol. He has had a big wonderful life, the good and the not so good. I admire your dad for lots of reasons but when asked in interviews he never hides the alcohol and drug problems. He owns up to all that. Now with his illness he shares that to help others. I'd like to send your dad and the whole family my support. I know it must be hard on everyone. I know your dad was away a lot as you kids grew but you can see on his face the love he has for his family. Your dads music and charisma drew me to him. After all these years he still a super star and a great guy and role model.

Travis your Dad has inspired so many of us with his songs and yes the good and bad of his life.
I grew up in Tuckerman, Arkansas just a few miles northeast of Delight. I do know temptation gets the better of us all.
I think we are related on your Grandmother Campbell side and all our people find the strongest bond is our faith. Church was / is the foundation that deeply binds us. Growing up in the Church of Christ is hard and love of music is our sanity. Your Dad knows this story all to well. I know his heart wants to serve, but we get off track. The getting back on track is the hard part. It's taken many years to learn none of us will ever be perfect enough to earn salvation. Grace is the word.
David is one my favorite people in the Bible. He did about everything humanly imaginable... good and bad, but God said David was a man after his own heart. Your Dad reminds me of David. Perfect no / Human yes!
I'm sorry to preach. It's not the point here.... point is your Dad will be remember as one of those great Arkansas boys that made a difference in peoples lives. Feet of clay maybe, but what a God given talent.
I know your pain my brother! I lost my Grandmother and my Uncle to Alzheimer's. Thank you for sharing your thoughts in this touching video.

carl ireton This is a Song from "Cat Stevens", a wonderful singer/songwriter in his own right who passed away in the '70s. I have no doubt that his song reached out to Travis is why he used it as the song for his video as it does truly make sense for many people in his situation who had no say in the choice of how they grew up but perhaps understand things a little differently as to why things were the way they were and perhaps maybe even seeing their own adult life playing out much like their Childhood, teen and young adult life did. I wish Travis and all the Campbell children nothing but the best.

Thank you so much for sharing this Travis. Your father just celebrated his birthday a week and a half ago, but he has given so many of us countless years of joy, love, and entertainment. I'm "only" 43 myself, but I really got turned on to your father's music because of my dad who himself will turn 74 in December. My mom and dad had the awesome opportunity of going to a Glen Campbell concert here in Arkansas (Conway I belive?) a few years ago. I wish I could have gone. One of my favorite albums is the 2001 live in Sioux Falls concert. Glen has been on my mind a lot these days. I have selfishly wondered how he was doing and wishing that someone would let all of his fans know. I do however realize that this is a very private and personal time for all of you. I am glad Travis that you have found this outlet to share with us. God bless you and your family. Glen is loved by so many and will be for many years to come.

This just confirms how devastating it is to see a family destroyed by divorce. This is a beautiful family. How on earth a parent could walk away from three little kids continues to stun me. There was no reason for this family to be broken apart. Both parents were to blame but the kids were clearly collateral damage. I love the image that was sold to us of Glen by the media and his “PR” people but it is apparent he was deeply flawed and obviously all of his wives were flawed as well. This is just so sad. No one won in this story. By the way, Travis, you appear to be the most talented of all of Glens kids, but none have the musical magic and genius of the father.

hi everyone - on my life i promise i'm the biggest glen campbell fan there is - but doesn't this song describe a son's heartbreak and eventual payback for a father who wasn't there? and didn't glen admit that he wasn't there for his first family in the late 60s when he was mega famous? does travis get this? or am i over analyzing ? listen to the lyrics!

I, too, was and still am a huge Glen Campbell fan. And I agree Travis may not haven't gotten the true meaning of this song. But he meant well. His heart was in the right place and I'm sure he loved his father dearly in spite of his mistakes. Glen Travis Campbell was a phenomenal and gifted entertainer. May he rest in Heavenly peace!

(courtesy of the biography channel)eddie murphy back in the 80s had the nerve to make a joke at glens expense at the grammys or some music award show. all i have to say is that now no one remembers eddie murphys work. but everyone remembers the great glen campbell. one of the greatest talents to every pick up a guitar. completely underrated by the music buying public except for by people who really know music.

cathleen (and anyone curious) if you want to see glen at his absolute finest , lookup the episode of the goodtime hour when he had liberace on as a guest. jerry lee and a great banjo player also accompanied glen. anyhow beginning around 18 minutes , glen, jerry and the banjo player play 4 songs in a row. all are world class great recordings, done with 1 take, the highlight (IMO) being "wayfaring stranger", a gospel or negro spiritual that begins at 23:55. glen's exceptional voice and fluid guitar work are first rate.
