Glen Campbell Plays "The William Tell Overture" (acoustic)

  • From September 1974 in New York's Central Park, Glen Campbell plays an acoustic version of "The William Tell Overture". In later years he always used an electric guitar for this. Sometime around 1974 Glen recorded an acoustic studio version of William Tell that sounds much like this, but it went unreleased for years until it was accidentally released on the 1997 Razor & Tie 2-CD set "The Glen Campbell Collection". I say accidentally because the track listing for the compilation lists the live 1977 version with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, but what you hear is the 1974 studio acoustic version.

      This is a particularly good point. One, because so many people do not know of his illustrious session man career, and just how much of those fabulous guitar riffs and solos we being played by Glen. And two, because he proved that there was hardly anything he couldn't play with total mastery. Stuff, anything, that was totally out of his genre, he'd play it fantastic.

      Totally agree I don't think he was ever fully recognized for how good he really was, this clip alone shows why I put him in the same class as Hendricks, Clapton, Brian May.

    • @walterkoziol3822
      @walterkoziol3822 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually you're wrong colts. You don't classify a studio musician with band members. A studio musician can play any style of music like classical to flamingo to jazz to rock and all the rest. Campbell could do it all with ease. I'm not saying those guys aren't good but they're even close. If I had to pick one to be the closest it would be Clapton.
      Anyway, I also remember his show, and on his show when he did William Tell Overture, it was on a twelve string guitar. He played it at the same speed plus he played half of it over his head without missing a beat. Which makes it way more impressive since the duel strings are really close together and he was only picking one throughout the entire song.
