    Mark Stibbe and other victims need to be listened to. He is right about the disconnect. Welby's speech was tone deaf and insulting.

    I commend Mark Stibbe’s courage to talk about what he has been forced to endure by the Church. Welby’s behaviour and attitude is disgraceful. I would never look to that man for any moral guidance.

    This just shows that Justin Welby has no shame at all!
    He has been a disaster for the Church of England with all his outbursts!
    The fact that the C of E knew about John Smyth and kept quiet is absolutely appalling!

      I am disappointed that the school my kid goes to invited him to talk to the kids and parents. But then again, we are ruled by a medieval family who is also prone to checks and balances, scrutiny, paying taxes and keeps distributing titles to people some of them I really can not understand why would they bow and accept. How can a scientist, a progressive person can abide by it.

    When oh when will we stop give giving people in positions of any status or power the respect they think THEY are owed. In America they bow to the altar of monied people in the UK it's the establishment position that is held. They should be proving their right to be in these positions, every day and held accountable immediately. There is no hate like christian love.

    Justin Welby's very unfortunate speech in the House of Lords was both very unhelpful and lacking in suitable contrition! It doesn't address the victims of John Smythe QC and falls very short of necessary expression of supporting genuine sympathy. I can't blame the feeling of utter sorrow or disgust by the victims of John Smythe QC - there's no mitigation on this point.
    Now having said that! I can say how I feel very disappointed with the Archbishop's words. And how that affects me as a Chorister in the Church of England. My first reaction was to quit! But if anything, that had to be thought through and reflected on first! If to condemn it. As unwise or lacking - I would have to remain in! I have reflected and I can't go against the Chorister's Prayer - I have to remain in to guide through this difficult long and dark tunnel and it's a lot bigger than the one I guided through over the fighting for the vaccination programme in 2020. And I am not going to be helped out by a very inappropriate and insensitive speech by the Archbishop of Canterbury himself. Who abjectly had failed to uphold responsibility. That task - I find out to be facing has been made much more complicated by consequence! I can only condemn it by the same thing.
    I very much want. In place now! An orthodox Archbishop - of Canterbury! To straighten out the mess there! I doubt that it will be as easy as that. Because it will take twice as long as it took me to fight for the vaccination programme! The Church of England has taken a severely crippling hit! It will not be easy to straighten out these things!
    I remain in. For now! But that could change!

    I feel Welby needs training from an organisation to teach him to respect and show remorse for his woeful neglect of his safeguarding duties. He appears to view the Makin report as an inconvenience that has forced him to resign. I read he came into a large sum of money from his mother. He should be made to pay for victims of CSA to receive support to cope.

    The Church of England did not run these camps and Justin Welby was not in the position of being Chief Executive of the Church of England. The camps were run by a Trust more connected with the Public School system than with the Church of England. Justin Welby is not the “Chief Executive” of the Church of England, which has two joint Primates, the Archbishops of Canterbury and of York. So, the whole affair was very contrived - pure politics. There was a fuss being made, someone had to be offered up by the Government as a sacrificial lamb to stop the fuss, so the Archbishop of Canterbury was instructed by the Government to pretend that he was in the nature of the Chief Executive of the Church of England, that the Church of England was responsible for running these camps and that, on the “buck stops here” principle he should resign. Since the whole exercise was contrived and political, it is understandable that Justin Welby struggled to keep up the pretence. The suggestion is that Justin Welby should have forced “the Police” to investigate the running of these camps. However, there are simple legal difficulties here. Which Police? Not the Metropolitan Police, since the offences were not committed in Greater London. The local constabulary in the area where the particular camp where the abuse took place? The local constabulary where the individual boys resided? However, for the Police to initiate an investigation, they have to receive a complaint. Suppose that Justin Welby had tried to insist that a local constabulary initiate an investigation, the Police had visited the parents of the boys concerned and they had said that they did not wish to make a complaint, since they did not want their son to become the centre of attention in a Police investigation. Then, the Police would have asked Justin Welby what his standing was in the matter. Did the Church of England run these camps (no). Was he personally responsible for running these camps (no). Had any parent of any boy instructed him to approach the Police to commence an investigation (no). So there were procedural difficulties. The Archbishop of Canterbury has responsibility for the care of souls in the Archdiocese of Canterbury and join leadership responsibilities in respect of the Church of England with the Archbishop of York. He is not a sort of Social Worker, or Private Detective.

    • @Mark3ABE
      @Mark3ABE 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ It is most kind of you to take the time and trouble to let me know that you have not read my comment. As to “likes” - it is a foolish person who relies, for his happiness, in this wicked world, upon the “likes” of the fickle public. Those who were, a week earlier, cheering Our Lord and laying down palm branches for him, were, a week later, calling for his death. As we are duly warned in Sacred Scripture “Cursed be the man who trusts in man, who makes flesh his arm.”

    • @ZL54JK8
      @ZL54JK8 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Mark3ABE Inevitably you take umbrage at my criticism. I don't imply that you were relying on likes. My point was that the lack of likes suggested people hadn't read your comment which was much too long and dense. It may be that you had something useful to say, but you must consider your reader in how you present it.

    • @Mark3ABE
      @Mark3ABE 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ You may be correct, however, in cases such as this, the public do not like to read anything which departs in any way from the official narrative. The official Government position is that these camps were run by the Church of England (although they were not) and that Justin Welby held a position in the Church of England equivalent to that of a Chief Executive of a large national charity. The Government decided that this is what the public wanted and they were, almost certainly, correct. The public simply do not wish to hear anything which disrupts the official Government narrative so will simply cease to read any comment at all once they see that it is departing from the official Government narrative.
