    As an Illinois resident my whole life, I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who would describe “popcorn” as their favorite dessert... French silk would’ve been more accurate. Can’t go to a diner without French silk on the menu.

    I'm from Utah and while I grew up eating jello and cool whip, I would say most people do NOT eat it much. Dessert is a big part of our culture though since most people don't drink alcohol or coffee so it's our party food. :) In my experience, the most common dessert you find is chocolate chip cookies or brownies with ice cream.

    • @78625amginE

      Agreed. The jello thing is getting old haha

    • @traversemountainguitar
      @traversemountainguitar ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Jello salad is a popular side dish at barbecues and family get-togethers, which people do a lot of here. Somewhere along the line, people found out that Utah is the state that buys the most jello, and it's basically just been a meme ever since. Utahans joke about eating lots of jello, but I don't know anyone who would consider jello their favorite dessert.

    • @FffffffffffffffffffffffffffffL
      @FffffffffffffffffffffffffffffL 4 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      I think it has more to do with the type of people that this video attracts. People think that their favorite dessert is actually the right dessert, so when Food Insider picks a different dessert they get offended. Also, there is no official dessert for each state, so when they do vids like this they pretty much just have to make the best guesses they can.

    New York cheesecake is NYC's dessert. I've had it in the city and it's amazing. But in the rest of the state, one of the biggest ones is the half moon cookie. Not to be confused with NYC's black and white cookie (thin shortbread kind of cookie), completely different textures. The half moon is more like devil's food cake, pillowy and moist, with vanilla butter cream on one half of the top, and chocolate butter cream on the other half. Most bakeries here make them. You can usually get a vanilla cookie or chocolate, I prefer the chocolate.

    Beignets are very popular, but we actually have a version of shaved ice called snowballs that are even more popular. The ice is more fine than shaved ice and there is so much syurp that its served with a straw. You can even buy it with icecream stuffed in the middle. They are often sold by small stalls scattered around any town or city. There are five in my hometown and all get plenty of business despite how small the population is.

    • @jude73528
      @jude73528 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m from Louisiana, and nothing makes me more angry then someone saying that shaved ice and snowballs are the same thing. Snowballs are way better, and there are tons of stands. I lived around Baton Rouge, and I had more snowball stands in my town than Dollar Generals. And that says something for living in the south.
