    Took your advice. Got the 2 mg strips. Cut down over a period of a month, and got down to .5. I did it pretty quickly, so when I started skipping days I would get mild withdrawal. Now I’m doing every 3rd day. Normally the 3rd day slams me. Today has been 3 days, and I woke up with 0 withdrawal! I’m almost freaked out about it. You have helped me so much!

It's been pretty rough.. but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel... I was on suboxone over 9 years... Mannnnn can't wait to be free of this.. thanks for the content with your videos doc. Chad W. To be dead honest with you I don’t think I was in it that deep my problem was fentanyl. On and off use for like four years and then I got to a point where I was using every day for two months 30 mg pills at least for a day. What trip me out wasn’t the withdrawal I knew that was gonna be bad it’s the symptoms that come after you’re done with the acute withdrawal they lasted about three months I couldn’t sleep ,I’m irritable, depressed , and had to work through all that I’m somewhat normal now . The acute stuff for me was I could feel something in my brain was triggering my body to shut down I could literally feel it. Worse was paranoia . I would wake up as the sub was wearing off and I would panic and in my mind walls were closing in fast and I couldn’t breathe. I do not recommend this I repeat I do not recommend this I went against all my doctors wishes he wanted me to stay on sub and I didn’t wanna be a slave to anything. So I tapered myself off and switched to comfort meds for a month and then the post acute stuff happens. That could last anywhere from months to years. I guess I was lucky. All I can say is don’t give up in the fight even when it feels like it’s the bitter end

      I’m in UK.we have 200 mcg or .2mg buprenorphine/subutex. So they do make smaller doses;but not sure available in US.If not you can cut tablets in half and half again if needed. If you get a light weight scale u can actually weigh a suitable amount and use that as a baseline,record the weight each day and work down over your timescale.Another trick is add 2 hours more than usual 24hr dose.Once you get down to below 1mg,it can get psychologically challenging,regarding being without the crutch;one other possibility is to go 1 or 2 days without any and take a tiny dose on third day,which can spread out the withdrawal? Also if you have insurance you can stop at 1mg and go on a two week taper of Lofexidine, which is expensive but can make a huge difference.For RLS take magnesium,potassium and Iron supplements.RLS is probably connected to low naturally produced dopamine;so a dopamine agonist like Pramipexole can also make successful detox more likely.Good luck brother,ask your doctor,get support and concider the options.Going forward concider a daily 50mg tablet Naltrexone,which stops cravings and is statistically proven to prevent relapse?

I feel like a completely different person every time i titrate down and come off suboxone, i will have to invest 16+ months to feel a sense of well being and mental peace with myself. Addiction is a brain disease and suboxone maintenance is a brain torture chamber.

      That's so true. 12 years of hell for me. Sub is almost like an SSRI, sure you're not depressed and sad, but you're not really happy either, just sort of indifferent to the world. Maybe calling it a state of purgatory would be more accurate. I've tapered to .25mg a day over the past six months and have become a completely different person. No more self-loathing and resentment towards life in general. In fact I'm slowly realizing how good life is again, and ready to grab life by the balls and finally get off this sub crap. It's felt like a ball and chain for too long. Hope you're doing well.

Im trying to help a family member and when i tell them i think they can do it they just tell me i dont understand how bad the detox feels. My first thought is to change to sublingual. It would break the psychological habit of snorting while keeping the dosing stable. The other option would be a Butrans patch that would give a slow consistent amount transdermally. Again, this would stop the habit of snorting which causes a quicker dopamine release and thus needs to be stopped. Then, the patch could be tapered over time

  • @LosChongo
    @LosChongo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Opioids ruined a significant chunk of my life, can’t believe I’m alive frankly. Having gone thru the addiction meatgrinder, I stand back in awe at how little we’ve learned and how slowly we’re evolving in the midst of an OPIOID EPIDEMIC. First, I’ll bet my left arm that more than 50% of ALL opioid addictions can be treated with 2mg suboxone or less. 2mg is not the endgame, its a halfway mark at best. If you are started at 8mg or higher, your dose should be cut in half after the first week when blood levels have stabilized. Most will have zero withdrawal symptoms. I’m too embarrassed to say how many percocets I would eat everyday, and when I was started at 8mg suboxone I was high as a kite and wired for the first week maybe 10 days. Also, when you buy suboxone on the street do know what they tell you? The drug dealers / heroin addicts actually warn you not to take more than a 1/3rd strip of an 8mg strip! Lastly, we know that the sublingual films are better than the dissolvable tabs. And tapering is essentially impossible with the tabs which pretty much defeats the entire purpose. So how do we respond - well tabs are more prevalent than ever and the films are becoming harder and harder to get. Brilliant!
    Sorry, just a general rant. Not directed at Dr. Park - he has some of the most helpful material I’ve come across. Maybe this info will help someone or make a difference, i dunno.

    • @LosChongo
      @LosChongo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Austin Z you want to start out on JUST ENOUGH suboxone to make wd’s subside. Why? Well thats because the half life of suboxone is about 1.5 days. So your next dose, 1 day later, actually compounds on your first dose. Your blood concentration rises steadily over the first 5 days then stabilizes somewhere between 5-7 days. This should be accounted for imho.

    • @chriswilson1968
      @chriswilson1968 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@austinz9862 16mg a day is insanity and so unnecessary. Suboxone is very powerful and if there's one thing I learned from the last 5 years of taking it is that less is more. 2mg only seems like not a lot because of those way over the top numbers doctors put people on. Unless you're banging H super heavy than 2mg a day is gonna be plenty. Personally I take less than 1mg a day and even that feels like so much. I'm about to finally make a real push to get off this shit. Suboxone isnt supposed to be a long term thing hooked on it for years. You're only supposed to take it for a few days when you get off oxy or heroin because the withdrawal only last a few days, the bulk of it anyways. Hop on subs for like a week max then you stop and you just tough it out after that as its mostly psychological after that. Subs are so much harder to get off of id rather be hooked on the oxy again and deal with that withdrawal cold turkey lol Also suboxone is a partial opiate so you can definitely get a little high off it.

      Still the best taper option by FAR. I don’t think it’s uneven as you want to believe. Was stable on 2mil (8 cut down) for years, went to 1, to .5, to .25, now a mix of that and .13. Yet to have a day that the dose didn’t do me right. Actually, at 1mil by 24hrs post-dose my pupil size was starting to normalize, but on .5 I noticed 24hrs later and they’re still as constricted as an hour after dosing. It’s kind of strange, made me wonder if what people say is true “low doses it acts almost more like a full agonist”, not sure how that can be but it sure does get me itching my nose.
      3 straight days of .13 rn. Want to get to the point I can dose.13 every 2-3 days before jumping. Soon…

    Do you have any suggestions or ideas on how to ease some of the detox symptoms such as leg cramps and insomnia. Are there any supplements that would help? I’ve been taking 8mg for about 3 years now and for the last several months I’ve tapered to 2mg. I feel really apprehensive about going lower because I’m anticipating these withdrawal symptoms.

    What are your thoughts/experiences with when a patient gets to the every three days dosing that low MG that is the jumping point, using something like lucemyra for a week or two if they seem to be struggling a bit with the norepinephrine withdrawal symptoms? Have you seen it to be successful or is it just about the same as clonidine?

    • @dr.chrispark
      @dr.chrispark  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sara Campbell I think that could be a good use for it. Patient dependent of course. It does have some similarities to clonidine. Cost/insurance coverage would have to be considered. Very good observation! Most of my patients when they get that low to q3days just jump off with little problems . I’ve used other meds to block withdrawal when patients are jumping off at higher doses or just seem to have more severe wtd symptoms than expected.

    • @saracampbell7171
      @saracampbell7171 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      DOC PARK interesting, what types of other meds to block withdrawals? I'm aware of the traditional clonidine, Librium, catapress... I've been on Suboxone since I was 18. I'll be 27 this weekend and I know that I'm ready to be off of it mentally. Life has changed drastically for the better since then, I'm a mother of two children with a full time job, a mortgage, etc. My husband also works full time but he works in the day and I work nights at a sports bar so I stay home with our youngest during the day. If I could get from point A (being on suboxone) to point B (not being on suboxone) without having to suffer through the withdrawals, I would have stopped it years ago. But I've experienced the withdrawals of Suboxone once before and I. Am. Terrified. There is no way I'd be able to keep up a house hold, take care of the kiddos, work and etc whilst going through that. The post acute withdrawals are the worst part for me. I can deal with the initial physical things, but the lingering insomnia/ANXIETY/depression/and absolutely zero energy or motivation to do anything at all is what kills me because of how long it sticks around. I'm so scared that I won't ever feel okay again if I do come off. I'm currently on 12 mg. When I was pregnant with my daughter I jumped down from 8 to 2 under medical supervision with no issues at all so that her chances of withdrawals were lower (successful also, there was no norbuprenorphine in the cord stat I'd elected and she scored lower per the finnegan scale than most normal babies who were assessed, never more than 4s) with my daughter, and as soon as I had her they increased my dose back to 8 (not sure why, didn't ask or really even think about it). Dropped down to 2 with my son a year later, same thing, no NAS for him and they bumped me up to 12. This time I waited and jumped at 2 instead of taking the 12 they recommended. By day 15 I caved. If the PAWS is a permanent possibility then I don't think I'll ever be able to do it. I don't want to live like that. But I am so tired of being on it. I'm interested in the other medications you spoke of.

    Excellent video Doc,thanks.my question is;since the introduction of the sublocade injection,why cant they make a “taper ready” injection thats pre-designed to slowly disolve at an extremely slow rate? The technology is there,im actually on sublocade and it works great. But they’re only available in 300mgs and 100 mgs,neither of wich is low enough to taper off. Very confusing.curious on ur take if these drug manufacturers really want patients to come off.thanks,i think ur an amazing dr. to take the time to make videos helping people.

    • @dr.chrispark
      @dr.chrispark  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's an excellent question. I think there are obvious implications that tapering isn't a priority for drug makers. That being said the meds save lives so we can't be too upset with these companies. I've had some folks comment that they were able to use sublocade to taper off by just not getting another injection after they got their 100mg dose. I don't have enough experience with this to say one way or another.

A lot of people suggest kratom to help get over the last part which is usually the restlessness but I don’t wanna be reliant on another drug like that, thanks and GOD bless!!!

      Subutex is by far harder to get off of. I was on it for 3 years after I detoxed cold turkey off methadone (I almost died and went through complete renal failure) so they put me on subutex. I was on it for years. Was terrified of tapering or not having it and I had tried several times to switch to suboxone and my doctor kept telling me there's "no difference" blah blah. I felt like CRAP when I switched to the films. So I decided enough was enough and quit subutex. I was deathly ill. So I went back on at that point (after 6 days) to the film. It worked a lot better and is much easier to taper off of. I did a strict taper plan with my doctor. Once I got down to .5mg every other day I'd forget to even take it so I knew I was ready. Wasn't bad at all. I got down to 1mg on subutex and tried to quit and it was horrible. It's definitely harder on subutex

    I have been taking Suboxone for 6 years. I am at a point in my life where I am mentally somewhat prepared to start trying to get off. But what really kicked my butt in gear is my pharmacist. He kind of shamed me today in front of the other customers. He says to me, what the hell are you even taking this crap for anyways? He said this stuff is so darn expensive you just need to start cutting yourself down and be done with it in like a week. Now mind you I've only met the pharmacist twice and I deal with another lady all the time in the pharmacy. But today when he literally shamed me in front of other customers waiting for their prescription it made me feel like the biggest piece of shit in the world. I mean I don't think that pharmacist should be allowed to give their opinion about medications! Plus this guy doesn't know me he doesn't know my story he doesn't know anything about me. As soon as I got home I looked up how to carefully wean off of Suboxone 2mg and your video came up. Thank you so much for making these videos and I hope to God that I can get off of this medication because my insurance stopped covering it and it is so expensive.

    • @JessicaC.
      @JessicaC. 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@karliann1 I don't know what a HIPAA violation means. I mean the pharmacist did shame me and made me feel like a piece of shit. In front of 5 people. But I don't want to ruin somebody's career over this. I mean if you think about it he is speaking the truth I do agree with him I do need to get off of Suboxone I've been on it for 6 years. I am Catholic and I have been praying about trying to get off of Suboxone and I do believe that God uses vessels to speak to us. Now I've never had a pharmacist talk to me the way that this guy did I don't know if I should take that as a sign of God saying Jessica get your shit together and get up off of this drug? I've been clean for 7 years now actually I don't have any Cravings to want to go out and do drugs. In my early thirties I realized that I have been self-medicating for basically my entire life I started doing drugs when I was 11 years old. I didn't start abusing pain medication until my early 20s. But I am smart enough to have self-awareness and knew that I couldn't live the way that I was living anymore so I got off of the drug I got clean had my son and then after I had my son I started doing drugs again I had postpartum depression. And it went undiagnosed for a good 2 years. Finally I got help for myself and I started is taking antidepressants I have bad anxiety and panic attacks. So I got mental health help I have a psychiatrist. So my shit is together I am living a great life my husband and I just bought a house and a beautiful neighborhood my son he goes to an amazing school so my life is on track now. The only thing that really pisses me off is that I feel like I can't let go of my old life because I'm still taking Suboxone. I need to be rid of all that negative energy from back in the day when I was addicted to drugs. My doctor also diagnosed me with PTSD from having a traumatic childhood my brother was diagnosed with PTSD as well for of course the same exact thing as meeting having a traumatic childhood. So that's a little bit of my story. I don't know if that was God's way of telling me that I need to get off this medication or was it just a pharmacist being a douchebag being sick and tired of having ordering the Suboxone for me because I am literally the only person who takes it in their entire Pharmacy. He also told me that as well yesterday. So I take 2 mg a day I know it's a super low dose but after you do something every single day for six seven years it becomes a routine and trying to break that routine is the hardest thing. My doctor proceeded me with the 16-week program but after watching this video I really like the program. This doctor is talking about doing. When he's talking about taking it every other day and then 3 days with nothing I think that that is a really good way of breaking a habit. So it's something that I'm definitely going to try I'm going to talk it over with my doctor first and see what he thinks of course. But I do agree that the pharmacist should at least get a firm talking to I don't want to ruin somebody's life over a comment or two. And if it were the old me I would have went the hell off on him! But I kind of just cowered away because I was embarrassed. And I just kind of told him I understand your frustration and don't worry I'm going to be talking to my doctor. What I really wanted to say to the dude was it's none of your fucking business. You are the pharmacist not the doctor you have no effing right to tell me what I need to do! Even my husband said I should have went off on him. But I'm turning 36 in 6 days so I'm trying to act my age LOL. But God bless you for coming up with a really cool regiment and I don't know where you're located but I wish you could be my doctor :-) God bless everybody

The 0 energy was the worst for me but now I know what to expect.. usually I'd cut my dose by 0.25mg every 3 days. Once I got to 0.25mg, I jumped off. Have you talked to your doc about the 2mg strip and possibly alternating doses? such as 0.5mg one day and 1mg the next. Also, how long have you been at this dose and how long were you at the last dose? You may be trying to taper too quickly. In other words you may need to make a small change and then stay at that dose for 3-4 months before making any other change. Just some ideas. And you're right, it's not easy. But you can do it! Talk to your doc before making any changes.

      That’s normal. You’ll have to learn to deal with it. It’s a lot of anxiety and mental stuff. I Have the same issues. Just keep weening. Make sure you’re stabilized. Get a benzo for extreme anxiety times. If you can’t contorl yourself then don’t get it. Try good CBD oil instead. A tenth of 8mg is .8. Just make sure you stabilize first like I said. Once you get under 1mg is the hardest part. It will get easier eventually though. Just keep going.

People get stuck ok low doses because in a sense, its almost bringing more of the drug to the receptors plus there actually feeling the negative effects so when they do take it it reinforces addict behavior right when they have learned to avoid that behavior.

    I was started on 8 mg per day after a car accident that left me with three herniated discs and an approx 5 to 6 Vicodin per day habit, maybe a little less, possibly a little more, depending on the day. I wish I was told to start tapering right away. It was pretty easy for me to cut the 8 mg in half. And not much harder to go down to 2 mg ( not sure if this is because I was only started at 8 mg to begin with, or if it's because of how extremely slowly I've been tapering? ). I'm now on 1.5 mg which I barely noticed a difference, if at all, from the 2. But like I said, I have done this slowly, and I mean, VERY slowly. I've been at 1.5 for at least a month now and I'm wondering if it's too soon to go down to 1 mg, as this will be the fastest I've tapered? The main thing I feel when I need my next dose is tired ( I do half of it in the morning and have it in the evening/late afternoon ), as soon as it kicks in, I feel more awake and "normal". But I've not gone a whole day without my dose. Tomorrow I'm going to try .50 in the a.m., then .50 in the p.m., and see how it goes. Eventually, I would like to just take 1 mg once a day.

    I wish I could find a dr like you around my area. I hate the subutex. I can’t take the strips because if I consume anything with Naloxone my body almost immediately goes into like reject mode. In the beginning when I tried them I was puking and my dr told me to stick it out just keep taking them my body will get use to them after 2 weeks of not being able to get out of bed and migraines so bad I couldn’t open my eyes he put me back on the tablets. This helped a little. I still have debilitating migraines. I was prescribed 16 mg a day. For coming off a pain pill addiction. Maybe like 100 mg of hydrocodone a day. I feel he steered me wrong and just wanted my money. And I could have did it without the suboxone. But it’s been 2 years my body is addicted to it now. Even tho every day is miserable and I’m constantly nauseous with horrible headaches. By myself I went from 2 tablets a day to 1. Now I’m going to try quarters. Idk what to do. I don’t crave this crap. It makes me physically sick but if I don’t take it I get sweaty and even sicker. I honestly feel like this was the worst mistake of my life.

You eventually want to only dose once a day, or made a big difference when I jumped off. I've been off for 2 months now and took subs a lot longer than you have, so don't be discouraged you can and will do it. Believe in yourself. Subs eventually bring you down and make you lose hope and self confidence. Just remember the real you is still there, it's the subs making you feel like you do. Don't buy into it, your stronger than those subs. You going to be a little uncomfortable for a while but I swear it does pass and you will eventually look back at it and wonder why you ever doubted yourself.
