what is the real difference, from a suspension point of view, on a real back-road dash..?, asking because the directness of the 992 is a result of the suspension technical set-up(DW) not on the susp. performance. Every review I read said the new 992 touring rides harsher and pointier at the same time while the previous Macpherson strut made the car less darty, also while having a more compliance ride.
Harsher and pointier suspension would be a good thing if you would live in a Swiss or a German land...but, on a bumpy back road, the car would be all over the place and very hard to drive it smooth.

  • @thomasz3192
    @thomasz3192 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

2:10 Just have to correct that statement. There is a difference in terms of downforce between 992 touring vs non-touring. Porsche said that the dynamic wing for the touring will have a same downforce to the non-touring at the lowest setting. Meaning that in track mode, the regular GT3 will have more downforce. Also while the downforce might be the same at the lowest setting, the swan neck design will have less drag for the same downforce.

I have driven a manual 992 GT3 and it's a great car but just too good for the road. You need to be doing silly speeds to really get the best out of it. So it really depends on what you want out of a car. If you are going to the track a lot then the newer car makes more sense. Otherwise, the 991.2 GT3 Touring makes a fine road car.

There's a Porsche club here in SW Florida and Naples, Florida called the Paradise Porsche Club (Groupe) and they're also on Facebook. Last week they did a meet and greet here in Cape Harbour, Florida where they enjoyed a brunch at RumRunners restaurant along the waterfront. There were several very very rare and expensive Porsche 911s including a GT3, 911 Turbo S, Boxster GT4 and many others....They were 12 of them....however this Saturday June 11th 70 of them are meeting on Sanibel Island...at a restaurant. A very beautiful place...look up Sanibel and Captiva island, Florida....looks like an island out of anywhere in the Caribbean, so wild and exotic. 70 Porsches in one parking lot....ouffff I'm going and I'm going to be in Porsche bliss.

Let me start by saying the new 992 GT3 and GT3 Touring are great cars. In response to your point about the gearbox. I originally tested the manual box on the 992 GT3 and didn't really like it. I don't think it suits the car or the engine. Hence we brought a PDK along this time. Furthermore, I think the PDK makes it a much better daily driver. The 991.2 sounds better with or without the aftermarket exhaust. I have driven enough to know. 991.2 GT3 Touring FTW - it feels like a much more involving car and to my eyes a much better looking one as well. I felt the 992 GT3 was very anodyne and yet somewhat twitchy at the same time. Obviously roads contribute to this a lot. Also the interior of the 991.2 and 981/982 for that matter are timeless whereas the 992 interior is a bit of a horror story. I strongly suspect the 991.2 GT series (touring, GT3 and GT3 RS) will go down in history as peak Porsche along with the 982 Cayman/Spyder GT4 RS. In my view Porsche lost their mojo with the 992 - I also suspect they know this.

Cannot comment on the short shift on the 991.2 as I have not tried it but have never thought it needs one. In my view it does not need a louder exhaust, the standard car has reduced sound deadening and is vocal enough. The 991.2 is so rare in the UK it will always hold an interest and demand though spec dependant.
The 992 is a better car but loses some of the rawness and uniqueness of the original. There will be 100’s if not 1000’s by the time it is replaced and so will settle down in price while the 991.2 will be considered similar to the G series Club Sport (52 UK cars). 🐐

Given the current supply shortages & production delays. Including ships sinking & the war in Ukraine. The 992.1 GT3 production will be far less than the 991.2 GT3. Cannot speak for the UK, but in the US. Less than 300 tourings have been delivered & the 2022 model year closes out next month. If times were normal, then I’d agree. Porsche would pump out as many as they could sell.

How does a wing vs no wing create the same downforce. That doesn't even make sense. It adds more weight, vs no wing if it makes the same downforce then why have the wing?
    Think. Science doesn't agree.

The 992 might be a better car, but for me the 991.2 looks 100x times better. And I think if someone is buying a Touring over a regular GT3, it's all about how about it looks than it's performance or how fast are the Nurburgring lap times.. My dream Porsches are 997.2 GT3 and the 991.2 Touring.

@@pcaryvr the hood is actually what kills the looks for me. The rear end is nice, but I can't get used to the air ports in the hood. I actually think even a regular Carrera looks better or the ones with the aerokit opcional.

@@pcaryvr +1. I completely bypassed getting a 991 GT3 because it looks almost identical (sans wing) to a Carrera. I think that is why you hear the 991.2 will look more elegant than the 992.
The 992 GT3 looks purposeful. It finally looks like a car designed by the GT department; rather than a Carrera 4.0. It has a bespoke look that won’t be mistaken for a Carrera. FTW

There is ZERO chance of me paying more for an older worse across the board car! The 911 has evolved over the years and has just gotten better each time. Why anyone would choose to pay a quarter of a million for this is beyond my understanding. Obviously a brand new car is a far, far safer purchase in terms of faults and condition (also no doubt far safer in a crash too) Engines get better, suspension, brakes, gearbox get better. Speed and control of that is better. You are paying extra for a considerably worse car. All a bit baffling to me?

As I noted in my review, the 991.2 GT3 Touring is a very different car to the new model. Hence there are people that like the older model as it is more involving and has a completely different feel to the new model. Both great cars, but so so different now.

There are unlimited aspects of cars e.g. aesthetics, sounds, feels, speed, etc.. You don’t want the older car because perhaps you appreciate the numbers and performances of the new car. However, people value things differently, so you cannot apply your decision making process to everyone.

    Sorry, but you're telling nonsense.
Of course the downforce of the "standard" 992 GT3 rear spoiler is bigger than what you get with the "folding" rear spoiler of the 992 GT3 Touring model.
It's simply a much bigger wing on the base GT3 and it's at a better position too.
