    I bought this one a while ago. Several remote replacements later... I decided it wasn't for me. I found the Neewer to be a bit better for the panning action. These days I prefer the iFootage Slider Nano.

      @FellowFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've heard alot of great things for the iFootage slider, really wanted to review that actually. But iFootage sent me a monopod instead... :/ and then wouldn't agree to sending a slider right now.
      I do agree that the remote is very annoying on this slider. It's super cheap.

    I have a similar slider. To help create a speed ramp, set the path for each end of the movement just shy of the end of the slider. This will help create a speed ramp, and get rid of the abrupt stop and the crazy noise. Hope this helps.

      @@doug3264 set it a few inches away from the end of the slider. You don’t want to set it all the way to the end because the slider mechanism/motor doesn’t stop on a dime. The slider will move a little bit beyond the end point you set.

    When the camera reaches the end, does the track tend to bow downward giving you an arc-like shot? I know a lot of sliders can't support the weight of a big camera once it passes the middle point.

    Hi, great review. Does this slider comes with ai tracking? I only know there's an option of setting the slider to rotate too (clock or anti-clockwise). If not, would you recommend attaching an AI tracking gimbal on top of the slider to get that focus on your subject shots? Would it be too heavy for the slider to handle? hi, do you have a recommendation for a motorized slider that you like? I am looking for smooth pan, smooth rampup/down, head that turns to keep facing stationary subject. One thing important for me: be able to use the entire footage, not just middle part of footage that is smooth, the footage at the two ends needs to glitch free. Something like iFootage Nano(with upgraded firmware, out of stock few months, chip shortage).

    • @FellowFilmmaker
      @FellowFilmmaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've only every used a handful of sliders so far. The best one was an Edelkrone fully rigged out, it had smoothness in all areas and more control over it. I've heard Rhino is great as well, those will be your best options for perfection. If you are going on the cheaper end, then it gets a little rough. I've heard the iFootage Nano is nice but has some glitches here and there too. I'm currently trying out the Zeapon Micro 2, and I like it enough. I'll have a review on it soon if that helps.

    Haha, got to watching the skit, not the shots, lol!! I must know though, who ate all those fortune cookies, hahaha????
    On the slider, does it have mount points at each end for a tripod? (I think usually for a qr plate?)
    Also, what you could do to line up the rail perfectly is take a block of wood and shape it to the exact thickness of the straight position (maybe the middle?), then if you set both sides to that thickness, you will have a straight path.
    Finally, you will be happy to know I found a couple of Godox sl-60w's on ebay the other day for about half off! I think they're in the mail, and I can't wait to try out some "real" lights, lol!!!

    The GVM has been good for me. Prior to this I had a Neewer that was pretty much garbage, very jerky.

  • @davidp158
    @davidp158 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    At the time of purchase (about 3 years ago) the GVM slider was the least expensive motorized articulating slider I could find. Overall, the slider is a pretty good value, of decent build quality and easy to operate. The articulating rod is a good concept, but poorly executed. The problem is that where the rod interacts with the pivot point under the camera has a lot of play, and keeping the point of focus changes over time. If you don't need the left/right/left articulation, the slider will perform just fine. However, I spent a lot of time trying to resolve the play in the articulation feature, but have concluded that it's just a poor design that can't be fixed.

    So I found it funny that you did not zealously recommend this slider but GVM is using it to sell their product. Did they even LOOK at the video. I guess not. Probably a language issue. Anyway, I think you spent way too much on chinese cookies and way too little on getting the audio clear. Btw a skit is something that references more of a stage production, not a short narrative video. Must be your theatre training. Good luck with you youtube channel, keep up the struggle.

  • @alaskanfrogman
    @alaskanfrogman ปีที่แล้ว

    your video is Ok... you did put thought into it... but... you didn't need to put your personal observation about how many times you tried to film the video.
    You complained several times about how you had to spend time screwing the slider onto the tripod to mount it. Why didn't you just buy a second quick release mount that's compatible with your tripod. Having several extra quick release plates could come in very handy when swapping out cameras and... you can also mount one of the quick release plates to the slider in advance. That way you don't waste 2-5 minutes trying to screw it on every single time.
    I have several extra quick release plates for the separate tripod head I use. I have a still and a video camcorder. Each gets its own quick release plate for the tripod head. Also, and not to put too fine a point on this... I NEVER pipe my audio directly into my videos as you obviously do. Using microphones is fine. But I do separate audio recordings in addition to the onboard mic, or separate audio for any shoot. This way the microphone is isolated from the camera. When using something like the slider that makes a motor noise, the motor noise is separated and enough space between the audio recorder and camera helps to greatly reduce and eliminate most of the unwanted sound. I sync my audio the old fashioned way by using a production slate, also known as "a clapper." Standing in front of the camera I will generate a visual reference and a sharp audio sound that the recorder can pick up. This way the audio can be synced in post for a flawless and noiseless audio soundtrack in your video. It takes a bit more work, but the extra work is worth the effort if it means good clean audio.
    You can have great video footage. But if your audio is crap, then the video will appear and feel like crap. Audio is one of the most crucial and key ingredients in filmmaking. All it takes to ruin what might be great footage is just a little bit of crappy noise. It's best to have good audio to go with your good video footage. When combined in post, good audio can easily transform video footage into a great video.
    Nice video... thanks for the good and professional sounding introduction. And thanks for NOT using those cheap, easy n' sleezy intros that everybody thinks is so cool... you know the ones... "Hey Everybody, or, Hi Everybody, or "hi-guys, what'sup? and every single connotation and variation that so many people use, including and especially so-called "professionals." Yours sounded well thought and yes, very professional, so thank you for that.
