    This was really great to listen to and watch. The gent really loves his life and his work. It has kept him young it seems. The part about recording "CREATOR" and that them being a 25 year old band who are fun to work with for when you record an old band like that who have been with each other since their teens meant that you can really hear "friendship"... dyamn that was deep.

    • @RocknJazzer

  • @stantaylor2752
    @stantaylor2752 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    He really wraps it up at about 28 minutes onward. Police, AC/DC, "You can listen to the friendship!" 1st chorus/2nd chorus. What a great perspective.

  • @klick2destruct
    @klick2destruct 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I recorded my band this summer. We played the music live, a second guitar and vocals overdub. I, as the drummer, was the only one that had a click playing in my headphones. It helped soooo much in the editing phase because I could align the individual takes of one song and comp every mistake out. The feeling is still there and it was fairly easy to work with.

    • @ConcreteKOS
      @ConcreteKOS 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +klick2destruct Yea i don't think this guy is a musician all the best bands recorded final takes to sequencer tracks or some kind of metronome

    • @raytheonorion
      @raytheonorion 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +ConcreteKOS He is definitely a music lover though. That might mean more. Musicians are sometimes blind [or in this case, deaf] to certain "inconsistencies".

    • @klick2destruct
      @klick2destruct 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      well, many musicians don't really know what they are doing. for me as a drummer it was kind of a natural step to start recording myself. recording and producing sound is a difficult and very broad topic that involves as much physics as creative freedom. IMO a clicktrack doesn't really make or break a record. it just makes it easier to work with and many people (including myself) are used to a steady groove.

    • @raytheonorion
      @raytheonorion 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      klick2destruct Yea I think that not needing a click is probably reserved for super tight bands that have been together for years and know each other really well. The dynamic gives the sound something that you can't get with click. However this doesn't mean that not using click will give you this level of synergy. Again he said "you can really hear friendship" when advocating for no click. You know for that "live sound".

  • @paulbadoo9326
    @paulbadoo9326 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Super-inspiring this video, because I guess everybody is fighting to record drums at home in a small room. I actually prefer this sound to 80s-90s big room, bombastic, roomy drums. This is how rock drums ought to sound like.

    I had the same feeling as him regarding quantization. I mean, especially a live band. You want them to create the energy. Let them dictate their own tempo and feel. If it's a bad take, then it's a bad take. Maybe they need to practice more, or get the arrangement down better.
