Just saying, i see a lot of people shitting on the guitarist kid for having expensive stuff and thats just ignorant. Main reason the kids i knew growing up had expensive gear was usually because they had a relative that played. The only kids i knew that had expensive gear simply because of rich parents usually werent this good. And yeah you can rag on him a bit cause its not perfect, but i couldnt come close to playing this at his age. Its a very difficult song, and those whove never played on stage, if you havent practiced it to the point of muscle memory, youre going to fuck something up. Give the kid a break, he killed
Dern Tillamisu Agreed. I played on shitty equipment when I started (and I still use the same beginner guitar and practice amp) but I think it’s awesome that this kid has the opportunity to use this equipment. If you have the skills to justify getting good gear, who’s to say you don’t deserve to play with it?
Word. And this kids Amp setting didn't look that expensive. Looked like a cheap head on a regular Marshall cab. The guitar was probably the most expensive part of his setup with it being a Vai signature axe. people shit on other peoples gear when they get jealous of talent or money. Who cares what the kid plays on? He ripped! I agree with you 100%
Dern Tillamisu he messed up in places but most professionals do from time to time on stage it just a quirk of the industry lol its how you deal with them that determines pulled the performance off or not lol As for the equipment I still use the guitar I pulled out a dumpster and restored lol even a crappy £5 off ebay can sound half decent with a good musician
Both of these guys can probably find success in a band together. They were on point and in sync with each other for the whole song, and that is NOT easy to do for any song, let alone this one
It’s really sad with kids that have so much musical talent, were probably made fun of and bullied before this show.. So happy for you two!!! You’re a internet sensation now!!!
This is so amazing! I’ve never seen anyone that young put on such a convincing and well prepared performance! It seems like a concert BY Metallica, it’s so good. Im a Music Education student, and it’s truly so rare to find someone with that kind of talent at such a young age. I hope they’re both doing well now!
They had a great music teacher. When my son (the guitarist in this vid) was plying sax, he wanted to play a song that he couldn’t find sheet music for. His teacher took the time and wrote it for him ❤️ It’s teachers like that who make a difference. Wish I could remember the song.
Just not getting recommended this after 16 years 😳😳😳!! These guys KILLED AND NAILED IT, EVERY NOTE!!! I was already hype about them nailing it and was wondering was they gonna do the solo or not! Either way it was a FANTASTIC performance but then they built up to the solo and the guitarist leaned down and hit it… MY SOUL WENT INTO ANOTHER REALM …. I hope they are still playing today
@@bsod88 just curious, as that seems to be only reason why people want to learn this specific song. Not necessarily a bad thing before you get the wrong idea, just simply an observation

Talent shows are like 90% shitty singing to pop songs, these kids shredding Master of Puppets takes REAL talent, especially for 9th graders. No surprise they won 1st
@@ares_bluesteel Yes, without a doubt. Unfortunately, some people underestimate or take these types of performances for granted. Kind of like when someone tells you that metal is "just noise" when they can't comprehend the musical theories and intricacy behind the riffs and music. Glad that the judges picked up on the amount of effort it takes to pull something off like this.
Even though this vid is like 12 years old it still blows my mind every time. I was like 16 and I was truggling to learn the guitar back then until a friend of mine showed me these two guys rocking it out. It gave me the drive to do what I can in my earnest, as well to my then bandmate who was on drums. I hope that you guys are doing well, and I hope that this video keeps on getting recommended so it can be an inspiration for people.
I would have been 17 when this happened. This is the exact type of thing I wanted to do in high school as a guitar player who was super into hair metal. They killed it.
Extremely talented.. This song is very hard to learn especially those solo's. Both kids are VERY talented. A dying breed. Keep going, there is a future in it for you if you play your cards right and are skilled enough.
They did great. I'm a 52 year old guitarist and remember learning this song for the first time. Makes me glad that kids still pick up a guitar and play rock.
This kid is lucky to have a supportive parent like you. Parents supporting their kids can really change their life. (Edit--> I do not listen to music anymore as my lifestyle is Islam, all praises to Allah. So, I retract my statement in the cases which involve non permissible actions such as pursuing music. However, I do stand by my statement in terms of everything that is permissible to do in Islam. Fun fact - my parents are also really supportive of what I want to do as long as it is permissible in Islam).
If you click on the account tons of videos of this kid on guitar at talent shows and at home great playing at his age good job mom and dad. I started playing guitar when I was 10 and I still play I'm 30 so hopefully they are still playing the guitar even if they're doing something else that's a profession hopefully he's still playing guitar for fun and then bars and stuff and cover bands and parties they're playing at
You started around same time as my son and he’s 29. And yes, his life with his job takes priority but that doesn’t stop him from a few forearm burner sessions. Always a good way to blow off some steam. Nice to know you are still playing too. ❤️
For the past few weeks, I’ve been getting myself into rock more than ever! Listening to soundgarden, Metallica, pantera, slipknot (I know some of those aren’t considered rock, but they are sub-genres of rock) I wouldn’t call myself a Metallica fan because it’s only recently that I’ve started listening to them and I don’t wanna be a poser, but I love master of puppets, sad but true, and most of all, One. These 9th grades did one hell of a job, especially without a second guitarist and a vocalist, but god they pulled this off extremely well. Thank you mom or dad or both for supporting these kids! They definitely deserved that first place and give me even more courage to learn to play the electric guitar a lot better
God, these kids are so good. I've seen this several times throughout the years, yet it keeps getting recommended. Every time I enjoy it, I honestly expect Hetfield's voice to come in lol
I like to come back to this video every couple of weeks. As an (almost) 9th grader myself who is a beginner-intermediate guitarist, you’re a massive inspiration to me. Awesome cover.
Ah the posers, I always buy the band shirt after going to their concerts and listening to every one of there albums and such. But yeah I totally get what you are talking about. It irritates me to no end. Just like Justin Beaver were in a Megadeth shirt. Absolutely sickening.
Your son is absolutely talented. I can't believe I'm finally getting this on recommend now. I hope he's doing well and I can tell he was an absolute star. This is just amazing
I always loved when TH-cam randomly recommends me this type of old unknown videos, Is like having a encyclopaedia of just moments recorded and almost forever save for the rest of the world to see that otherwise I would have been impossible
fk, we did pretty much the same thing while we were at collage..... Man I miss that time while I was at the attic playing these with my friends... Our drummer was a fking machine! now he is a middle school music teacher, these kids have no idea how crazy their teacher was when he was 20 y/o.
Just adding on to my last comment. This kid is in 9th grade, so hes maybe 14-15 years old. Hes probably not a seasoned stage veteran, this is probably one of his first times playing on stage. Now just remember learning a really sick lick as a kid, then trying to show your friend the next day. We both know you butchered it on the first few attempts.
I'm guessing due to your compassion that you play yourself and have been there. But yes, you're correct and I'd give anything to be hearing him play day after day after day again. It never bothered me. He'll be 25 this year. I'm feeling old now hahaha. But glad to see he still gets views and comments. Thanks for stopping by and your kind words.
Jay Oh Dee Why Oh man, hes actually a little older than me, ill be 24. But yeah, i get frustrated when i see criticism over small details, especially on something like a high school talent show haha. He played very well! A well earned 1st place! \m/
Goes with the territory I suppose. Back when I first posted this, I was the "protective momma" lol. I'd add my little rebuttal to the negative comments. Now? Pssshh.. guess I grew up as well hahaha
He'll yeah. I remember learning a song and "shredding it" by myself in my bedroom, then tried to play for my girlfriend the next day and played like I was drunk or something. I botched it big time and she just looked at me with an awkward smile cause she knew it was bad too.
If that first time on the stage and he butchered that, that's insane I cant even solo when it come to my first time cuz the whole department store watching me

Dern Tillamisu Very well said, 100% agree
He ripped! I agree with you 100%
Honestly Kirk's playing isn't much better these days.
Dern Tillamisu he messed up in places but most professionals do from time to time on stage it just a quirk of the industry lol its how you deal with them that determines pulled the performance off or not lol
As for the equipment I still use the guitar I pulled out a dumpster and restored lol even a crappy £5 off ebay can sound half decent with a good musician
